"Quicktime 7.6.4 is vulnerable" keeps popping up. To upgrade seems free, but fine print says it eliminates the old, & I have to pay to be able to use the new!

How do I get rid of the "vulnerable" pop-ups, and is the 3 year old version really bad/inadequate. I'm suspecting that this is just a scare tactic to sell new plug-ins, and I am paranoid enough to believe that the mfgr. is probably creating "problems" to force me to pay to upgrade. What should I do?

I apologize for my confusing post above, but to be clear: '''the QuickTime player is completely free'''. You do NOT need to buy up to the Pro version. Ever.
