Quicktime Autoplay in I.E

Hi
I am having a problem with the autoplay function for an mpeg4 quicktime movie I have put on my website designed in IWeb. I have changed the script so that 'autoplay=true'. The autoplay function works perfectly in Firefox and Safari but will not start in Internet Explorer. Anyone any ideas on this?

Welcome to the discussions, Motropuk1.
Try the software on this page

It has always created proper cross platform code (including embed and object parameters) and has even updated to take into account some of the recent changes in the IE world.

  • Quicktime autoplay post 1.1 update

    i was hoping that the 1.1 update would address the issue of iweb defaulting to setting autoplay to false for all quicktime files. i can't find any new options with regard to this, so i'm going to assume that it's not there (if i'm just not looking in the right place please let me know). anyway, i've gotten used to editing the html files in question to make autoplay true after publishing in iweb...but after the 1.1 update and republishing the whole site the html files no longer contain any reference to the quicktime files, so there's nothing for me to edit...but they're still there on the site and load as normal (except for not autoplaying).
    does anyone know what's up with this in iweb 1.1?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iWeb 1.1

    You looked in the iWeb directory and didn't find
    anything?
    To be clear, I looked in Computer>iDisk and found no folder for iWeb (if this is what you mean by directory). There is a document called "About Your iDisk" there, and is says:
    How your iDisk is organized
    The top level of your iDisk is organized into 10 folders (NOTE: Members with Family Pack accounts will have an additional Shared folder). Eight of the folders (nine, for members with Family Pack accounts) are available to you for storing or sharing files:
    <snip>
    • Web: When you use iWeb to publish to the web, it uses this folder to hold what you publish. The Publish button in iWeb puts your published site(s) in the Sites folder within the Web folder, and, and if you provide an RSS feed with what you publish, the feed is placed in the RSS folder within the Web folder. If you create a site using another authoring tool, you can publish the site by copying the files to the Sites folder within the Web folder. This new site can then be browsed using the address http://web.mac.com/username/folder, where "username" is your .Mac user name and "folder" is where you saved the new site on your iDisk. Any iPhoto 6 album you have selected to photocast will be in an iPhoto folder in the Sites folder in the Web folder.
    I don't have a folder called Web in my iDisk. Yet I have published my site via iWeb on dotMac. I DO have a Sites folder, but it contains only documents from my Homepage site.
    Am I looking in the wrong place?

  • Help. why won't my quicktime autoplay?

    I did everything that I think I was supposed to do.
    Followed these instructions (see below), saved the file and cleared my cache. But nothing changed…
    my site:http://web.mac.com/marcklein1/iWeb/MK/HOME_MAK.html
    Instructions:
    You need to change the controller value in the .js file from true, to false. Here's a quick run down of the editing method, assuming you are hosting with .Mac:
    (The editing process is the same for hosting with a remote server except that you will navigate to the .js files in the Site folder, and then upload the changed .js file)
    Using the Go menu in Finder, navigate to your .js file on the server following this path:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolder/Page.js
    Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
    Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
    Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.

    http://web.mac.com/marcklein1/iWeb/MK/HOMEMAK_files/HOMEMAK.js
    The embed code follows the object tag code and uses a similar syntax. Just change the same parts as you edited in the object tag code.

  • Making a autoplay quicktime intro for iweb

    i was wonder how to make a quicktime autoplay intro like this page

    View the source of that page, search for "autoplay".

  • Quicktime definitely not working right in different browsers

    So I just made and published my site with iweb. I've uploaded it to my own server and everything loads up a look pretty good. However, the quicktime movies on my site are doing strange things.
    In safari, when I go to a page that I have a quicktime movie on, I can't play it. I try to click the play button, and it won't work. But, if I right click it, it starts to play. In firefox for OSX, I can't click it at all, won't work. On a pc, firefox works perfect. All the movies play with no problem and everything looks great. In internet explorer on a pc, the site loads weird. There are white boxes everywhere, and when the pages finish loading, they are gone. It is especially annoying on the pages I have quicktime movies in, because the white boxes don't go away until the movie is done loading.
    So far I have read quite a few posts that talk about "making quicktime autoplay". I have tried the technique of changing the autoplay function from "false" to "true, however when I open the specific .html file in text editor, or any html editor for that matter, the line of code containing the quicktime information is nowhere to be found. I know the page has a movie on it, but it's not in the code. Which leads me to believe it's got something to do with .mac vs. a personal server. I don't know.
    Any help on any of these things would be great appreciated.
    my site is: http://www.nealham.com
    Thanks!

    I'm sure the problem isn't what's actually there in iWeb, but what's getting created as a result. On your demo reel page, start selecting at the "all" in "all rights reserved" and drag the cursor to the middle of the video. You'll see your control bar becomes obscured. Compare that to one of my video pages
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/Blog/E275A42E-C27D-4634-BB8 6-B8218F9A175C.html
    and you'll notice that it's difficult to find a click and drag that will highlight my control bar (if you start between the m and the e it's a little easier, but not every time).
    The reason why I mentioned taking it apart and putting it back together again piece by piece is because then that would at least give you and idea about at what point it becomes unplayable so that when it happens in the future, you'd be able to easily defeat it. For example, if you removed everything and it still doesn't work, then you'd know you've got a really REALLY strange problem on your hands.
    You could try using the forward button to move your QuickTime movie to the fore to see if that solves it, but I just checked mine and it's not the frontmost item (it's one layer down).

  • I am trying to create a RSS feed from scratch

    Okay so I want to create a RSS feed with these two links:

    I have checked out different widgets and what not but I want to create this from scratch.

    <description>Virtualization security companies Hytrust and Catbird will offer integrated compliance reporting that encompasses the hypervisor-host and network environment down through the virtual machine level. Catbird vSecurity, delivered either as a hosted service or virtual appliance, ensures correct hypervisor configuration and deploys network access control (NAC) against unauthorized access and protection against attack via IDS/IPS. Its VMShield component protects client VMs, tracks them as they move and enforces policy.</description>

    So I created a button on my home page, and it is linked to this XML file. Everything works great except it only shows the item that I coded in...I want it to show ALL items.
    Can I do this without having to input each item individually?
    Is this how I should do it anyways with a button linking to this xml file?
    I really want to have like 3-5 of the posts to auto update on my home page but I dont know how to embed the RSS into my HTML home page file.
    Also, the way I have it coded, will it automatically update the new posts?
    or do I have to wait for the new post and input the item into the xml file?
    I am very new to the RSS feed so please help.
    Thanks,
    cp

  • How to avoid error message re: an exception that I don't care about

    I written a script that allows a user to click on a thumbnail image and then the script will change the html in order to play a particular video. It works, except that it throws some kind of error and I don' t know what it is. Since it works, I don't care what it is, but I would like to catch it. The popup error window says "An error occurred inside a plug-in contained on this page." Any ideas on what the error might be? Below is my code.

  • The screen size is too small on the webpage created by QTSS publisher

    Hello,
    I published a video file using QTSS publisher.
    I'm using "Publish media to Quick Time Streaming Server (instant-on) and Webpage action "Auto-play in Web page".
    The screen size is fine when playing via the streaming link but when I create an actual webpage using QTSS publisher and dropping the movie file to that webpage, the screen size is extremely small while playing. Is there a way to make the playing screen size bigger in the webpage?
    The html looks like this:
    <object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" width="640" height="304" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab">

    I thought I would embed my clients QuickTime movies instead
    of opening up into a new page, href. they are embedded fine HOWEVER
    all are playing at once when page opens!!!. I do not see Properties
    for Quicktime.
    I used the xhtml code line : <parem name="autoplay"
    value="false" />
    which does not fix the problem. Here is the whole code for
    one of the movies, if it helps (came from classroom teacher)
    <!-- embed quicktime movie -->
    <!-- for older IE browers -->
    <object
    classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
    codebase="
    http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"
    width="320" height="255">
    <param name="src"
    value="../../movietests/ffems_entry.mov" />
    <parem name="autoplay" value="false" />
    <!-- [if gte IE 7> <!-->
    <!-- embed quicktime movie -->
    <!-- for all other browers -->
    <object type="video/quicktime"
    data="../../movietests/ffems_entry.mov" width="320"
    height="255">
    <parem name="autoplay" value="false" />
    alt : <a href="../../movietests/ffems_entry.mov">Click
    for Movie </a>
    </object>
    <!--<! [endif] -->
    <!--[if It IE 7] >
    alt : <a href="../../movietests/ffems_entry.mov">
    Click for Movie </a>
    <! [endif] -->
    </object>

    This method uses two tags: <object> and <embed>.
    This is for maximum browser
    compatibility.

  • Quicktime X (Snow Leopard): No More Autoplay?

    I have read some developer reviews of Snow Leopard and the new Quicktime X and it looks like there is no autoplay when any Quicktime file is opened directly (opening within Quicktime X). Apparently, the files no longer begin to play automatically, rather the user has to press the play button every single time! Can this be true? How can a Quicktime "upgrade" result in this "downgrade" of what the application is capable of doing?
    Any developers out there that might know of a solution before 10.5.8 users choose to upgrade to Snow Leopard yet?

    As I am reading everything I can see on the QT X. There is an option some may over look for installing QT7 Pro from within SL. They said to install that if you want the full functioning version we have now as well as the new one. I am not quite understanding that yet but will continue to watch to see whats what. QTX only exports like with only 3 options and no preferences. That is very weird. I never heard of an app with no preferences. I wonder if we install the new version and not the extra option of the 7 Pro, will the new over write our pro version. Ah so many questions

  • More  on  QuickTime  movie autoplay problem

    I am trying to understand what is going on with the QuickTime movies that feature progressive load, and autoplay... as in they are loading, but they are not autoplaying on ANY of my machines, where this used to work just fine before when the same movies were hosted on pages created with .mac homepage.
    I have a bunch of movies on my website, nearly a gig worth. When I got iLife, I wanted to recreate the movie pages using iWeb. I went to my iDisk, and simply copied the folder of web movies down from the Movie directory on iDisk to a local folder. All of these movies were compressed using H.263, and featured progressive loading, play immediately, etc. This feature WORKED when the movies were on Homepage.
    So I get into iWeb, make my movie pages, and load these movies into the pages via the media browser. I upload the movies using iWeb's publish button.
    AND when visiting the pages, I am given a big blue Q, with no indication of what is going on until after the movie is completely loaded. No autoplay, no quickstart, nothing, despite the fact that the local QuickTime settings indicate that I want to have these things play as they download.
    Even when the movies are totally loaded, one must still click the play button to get them to start.
    There is something very strange happening in between taking the source movie, copying it into the iWeb project, and uploading it. The result is that fast play during loading doesn't seem to work anymore.
    One user gave a procedure for fixing this, but it does not seem to remedy the situation. I have tried copying the original movie to my local drive, re-exporting it with the appropriate settings for fast start, copy it back to the proper iDisk folder, and still no autoplay during download.
    Is this a bandwidth problem of .Mac? Is this an issue with the movie file being tweaked by iWeb? Any ideas?

    I don't use Homepage or iWeb, or even my iDisk, like most users. Probably not as Apple intended, too.
    I create a page the "old fashioned" way. Hand coding the html files.
    Why have your nice movie file shoved (and scaled) to fit into a template? Why not have some more control over its playback features?
    The first part of my hand coding is to use "blank" pages. Black or white backgrounds (color if you wish) and a display to take advantage of the newer video codecs.
    I export using H.264 at 320X240 size to keep the file size low. By hand coding I can display these same files at 640X480 or even 800X600 in my Web pages.
    Changing the html code from scale="aspect" to scale="tofit" and editing the dimensions used in the code to these new numbers is an easy fix.
    Some of your current 100MB movies could be remade (from the original source files to preserve visual quality) into 10 to 20MB H.264 320X240 (or even smaller if you want to use the template pages) movies.
    We all win! Faster uploads and downloads. Free up valuable iDisk space!
    Another neat trick about hand coding is that you get to use the full set of features found in modern browsers and QuickTime. Many of my pages use "Presentation" settings and call the QT Player app instead of the browser plug-in. This allows you to display your movies "Full Screen".
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
    A full screen display of a file under 3MB's.
    There are our iDisks! And they should reflect our work (not Apple's templates).

  • PE4 - Quicktime - no stream? autoplay?

    Mostly a newb, but I made quicktime movies about five years that, when you'd go to watch em on my website, they'd start loading right away.
    Now with PE4, I can't figure out how to do this. It wants the whole vid to load before starting to play.
    I've tried fiddling with all the "Basic Parameters" in the advanced settings, from the Autoplay check box, to Autoplay to Streaming Server. Tried about seven different versions, nada.
    The computer is about to go out the window, combined with the regular crashes and disabling of my sound.

    Well, version 7 is much more than a de-bugged version of version 4 -- but it definitely does run much better than version 4, if given adequate RAM to work with, from all reports.
    How many file formats perform in the program is more often related to how your computer is set up: What codecs are installed and how they're managed, what other programs are installed on your computer and how they interact, etc.
    That's why we always say, "Your mileage may vary." No two computers perform exactly the same way.
    But, if you're able to use those MOVs with no problems in a previous version, odds are definitely very good that you'll be able to do the same in version 7 also.

  • Autoplay QuickTimes from Compressor

    Is it possible to create an autoplay QuickTime using Compressor. I normally would have used Cleaner Pro, but it does not seem to like H264 at all.
    Essentially I am attempting to recreate the set-up used on the Apple Trailer site, where you click on an image and instead of embedding the video in the HTML, i want it to launch QuickTime Player (externally) and autoplay from there.
    i have worked throug all of the <PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="true" > tags, but for some reason, it does not parse these parameters through to QT player.
    Anything I am missing here?
    Cheers
    Al

    Apple is now using JavaScript, because of how Internet Exploder is handling QuickTime.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/embed.html
    Check out the JavaScript and HTML source of one of the HD trailer pages.
    Download the source and exsample files from the following website, and I think you will get exactly what you need:

  • Quicktime X: Autoplay in fullscreen?

    Using QT7 Pro's Movie Properties options, I have a movie set to autoplay in fullscreen when it's opened; it works fine in QT7, but I need the same functionality when it's opened in Quicktime X.
    I found the Terminal command that sets movies to autoplay in QTX, but for the life of me can't find any way to start a movie fullscreen vs. having to manually do an option+F. (The issue is that this needs to be an entirely automated process: the computer starts, the movie opens in QTX as a startup item, goes fullscreen, and autoplays without needing someone to actually stand there and do it.)
    Does anyone know how to tweak QTX to open a movie in fullscreen by default, either via hidden programs options or settings in the file? Thanks!

    Have a look at the Automator app. It has workflows that can open a selected movie and play it back full screen. It can even loop the playback and use a different display.

  • How to i get quicktime to stop autoplay
