Quicktime in my Internet Browser

Question

I dislike the fact that quicktime is handling my mp3s and other embedded files when they download/play. For example, say I'm previewing music at a store before I purchase it, and they have links to short mp3s. I want my mp3s to open in my Winamp Media Player. When I installed quicktime (required for iTunes and my iPod) the mp3 downloads first then quicktime opens in the same window to play it. Meaning I'd have to click "back" before I preview the mp3 of another song.
Also when browsing personal pages (such as myspace) and songs start playing, there is now a little embedded quicktime player. I used to be able to click on my browser's "stop" button for them to stop playing immediately. It does not work with the embedded quicktime player.
Case and point, Quicktime is annoying. I understand that it is required for iTunes to work but I want that plugin that controls media in the internet browsers to go away.

Dear Sicnart,
Hoping I have understood your issue correctly, here is my suggestion to solve your problem.
Basically you must prevent QuickTime plugin from being triggered when an MP3 file is detected, and here is how you do this:
1. Go to the Control Panels from the Start Menu.
2. If you use the new Categories view in Windows XP, select "Other control panel options" from the left pane; if you use the Classic View, simply double-click on the Quick Time (hereinafter QT) control panel.
3. Click on the "Browser" Tab and click on the "MIME settings" in the QT control panel.
4. Uncheck the "MP3" check box. Note that you may also uncheck other boxes according to your preferences. Most players today are multiformat, and most of them are able to play the same files as QT. Therefore, if you see that QT plugin has selected itself as the primary program to read certain files you wish to either play with other players or just download, you may opt to reduce the number of files the QT plugin may manage.
5. Click on the OK button.
6. Click on the "File Types" tab and repeat the procedure described at point 4 if you also wish to revert the association between certain files and other players, but please beware that iTunes will not play audio if you uncheck MP3. Your choice.
7. Click OK and close the control panel.
