Quiz in middle of movie

I am trying to help a fellow employee who has a movie with 3
quizzes disbursed within a 45 slide movie. The menu slide at the
beginning of the move has 3 buttons to take the user to 3 new
locations within the same movie. The new locations occur after a
question slide. The buttons on the menu slide at the beginning of
the movie will not 'jump to slide x". When I moved the quizzes to
the end of the movie the buttons work, but the user would like to
have the quizzes appear randomly throughout the movie. Any way to
do this? I have tried changing the quiz manager settings "allow
backward movement" and "allow user to review quiz", with no luck.

Whats the best way to do this? Out of sync in middle of movie.

I have a foreign video that I am trying to synch up with the english audio track (its an old movie and thankfully an animation so the synch does not have to be dead on).
I have been able to get the begining of the movie (up to the 24 min. mark) and the end of the movie (from the 1 hr mark to 1:21) to line up fine. The problem is the middle part of the movie (from 25min to 1 hr) I am about 1.5 sec. too slow (IE the video is faster than the audio) I suppose the English audio added a bit of music or something to this part.
I guess I have to cut the audio in 3 parts. The first from 0 to 24min and then from 24 min to 1 hr (here I will cut 1.5 sec from the beginning and add it to the end of the clip) and of course then I have the last clip from 1 hr to 1:21.
I am pretty sure thats what I need to do - is there an easier way in Soundbooth?

If middle blank - move bottom portion of rep up

Hello:
I have a repeating frame within which I have many fields, labels, more repeating frames etc.Imagine it as having top, middle and bottom portion. Whats happening in my report is that when the frame has no records to display in the middle portion, it just displays a blank page and moves to the next page. Can anyone help me here as to which property needs to be set for this?

It is Vertical Elasticity property of the repeating frame, which has to be set to Variable to adjust to the size of the dataset.

DVD drive stops in middle of movies at small scratches

I watch a lot of movies on my computer. Lately (and often), the movie will randomly stop and break up, the cd will start whirring, stopping, and re-whirring, and then the program will insist on quitting. then i'll have to start it up again and skip to after the trouble spot. It says that the cd must be scratched or corrupted, but I put the cds into other DVD players who can read straight through the trouble spot no problem.
This is INCREDIBLY frustrating, and I already had to replace the disc drive before once already for cd-burning problems. Any recommendations?

IPod keeps shutting off on the middle of movies

I have an iPod touch and everytime I get to certain part of by videos the iPod flickers and then completely shuts off. Its not the video files because they work fine on my iPod video. Any ideas why this is happening?

same problem, i tried to re sync them and it only changed the point at which the video stoped at. then i make an appiontment at the apple store "genius bar" and they told me that the problem was the way i was downloading the videos and that something might have gone wrong with the sync. then he gave me a new one and it had the new apps on it =) but then i synced the videos to my new ipod then happened again >:o so DONT bother going to the apple store to trade it in for a new one it will only happen again. i heard if you sync the videos with windows XP it will work fine!

HT1657 watching a movie on Apple TV and it just stops in the middle of it. Try settings and check for rental and just get the spinning wheel for over 30 minutes.

Can't seem to finish a movie on AppleTV. It just stops in the middle of movie and returns to menu. Try to check for rentals under settings like it says to when we try and download movie again and all I get is a spinning wheel. At least the second this has happened in the middle of a movie. Beginning to think AppleTV is junk!

How to allow user refer back to lecture when they are taking a quiz?

I'm new to Captivate and now I am kinda in a dilemma. Thanks for your
time watching my post!
I created a CBL in Captivate 3, the first 10 slides is a lecture and it
is followed by a 10 slides quiz set as SCORM standard.
I want the learner to be able to refer back to the lecture when they
are taking the quiz, I tried to in 2 approaches and they both have
issues in different ways.
Approach 1: "allow backward movement", and "infinite attempts". The
problem with this approach is, when the learner click "review the
quiz" and when they click "back" on the first quiz slide, the whole
quiz will be start all over, the score is flipped back to zero.
Because the quiz seeing this as a new attempt, and the learner is
allowed to make "infinite attempts" as it was configured.
Approach 2: Set "allow backward movement" and allow only "1 attempt".
The problem with this approach is, when the learner is in the middle
of the quiz and refers back to the lecture, the quiz will be
automatically shown as completed. And the learner will not get a
chance to answer those unanswered questions.
So it looks like whenever I let the learner refer back to the lecture
in the middle of a quiz, the quiz will be seen as completed!!! What am
I doing wrong? Is there a better approach that I can "allow backward
movement" and still allow user resume their quiz from where they left
off?
Sorry for the long post, I was not able to express it in a more
concise way.
Any help is really appreciated!!

What you are seeing is the behaviour as-designed in Captivate for quizzing.
Each Captivate movie has a "quiz scope" which begins with the very first scorable object, and ends at the Quiz Results slide. If you enter the quiz scope by starting a quiz slide, then jump back outside the quiz scope, by going back to the main content, Captivate's default behaviour is to freeze the quiz at that point. So when Captivate refers to Allow Backward Movement, it's only talking about backward movement within the quiz scope.
For example, if you get to question 1 but don't answer it and go to question 2, then answer that one, and go back to question 1, you'll still be able to answer question 1. The quiz won't be frozen. However, if you had jumped back to any slide before question 1, your quiz would have been frozen with whatever score you had accumulated at that point.
There may be a workaround you can use to get closer to what you want. Since any scorable object is classified as being part of the quiz, you can add a button on one of the very first slides that the user needs to click in order to advance. Set the properties of this button (or click box) to report a score to the quiz. This makes it part of the quiz scope. Now any content slides that fall after this button slide are also within quiz scope and moving back to them will not have the same effect of freezing the quiz.
Please bear in mind one more aspect of quiz questions: If you answer a quiz question, and then move off the slide (forward or back) that quiz question answer is frozen and cannot be changed unless you Retake the Quiz or relaunch the entire module.
Hope this helps clear up the way things work.

Issue with First Quiz Question

When I try to go back BEFORE answering the first quiz
question, when I move forward again to the first question, it tells
me that "You did not answer the question completely"and it will not
allow me to answer this question or any additional questions. (I
have set the option to use the BACK button in a quiz.) If I answer
the FIRST question, it allows me to go backwards on any additional
questions. Why can't I move backwards before I answer the first
question? Is there something I am missing?

As Mzedella said, my understanding is that backing out of the
quiz (going backwards past the first question) costs the user an
attempt, so if you've only allowed one attempt, the questions are
considered not answered....
We have a mix of content and questions (not a single block of
quiz questions), and wanted to allow backward movement. We solved
this problem by making the first slide a question. That way, the
user is always in the quiz and they can move backward as much as
they like.
If you can't think of a good question for the first slide
(often a question about their background knowledge is good), you
can always make it 'are you ready to begin?'. A little clumsy, but
you get the functionality you want.
We further required all questions to be answered, so users
can't skip ahead past unanswered questions. By removing the nav
bar, but including a menu (via skin), users can easily review the
material, but are still required to at least click through all the
slides. This works for our application, but you many want something
different.

Quiz scoring

I am working on a 60 slide presentation where I have
"peppered" 20 quiz slides throughout the movie - on each question
slide, Captivate has correctly numbered the questions (1 of 20, 12
or 20, etc.). For quiz reporting, I'm simply setting up quiz mgr to
generate an email with quiz score, etc. When I publish and test the
file, Captivate is sending an email after question 1 - and saying
the user failed the test (when they haven't even seen the remaining
questions). Then it proceeds to send an email for each question
and/or set of questions (in some places I have 2 or 3 questions
grouped. Do all quiz slides need to be grouped together? Or is
there something I'm obviously missing (maybe the brain is already
in holiday mode?).
I want all the question slides (20 total) to be totaled at
the end of the movie, or at least the last question slide and one
email generated indicating pass/fail.

You are SO nice to send a sample to me. Thank you! That
helped and worked until I changed one thing in the quiz manager
setting -the reporting feature. Under the first tab - Reporting - I
clicked on Enable reporting for this project and clicked on email -
entered an email address and chose my report data, etc. Then when I
publish and take the test, it goes back to sending an email for
every question answered - not the total quiz summary (ultimately it
fails the user since they haven't had the chance to answer all the
questions) I have the questions set as follows:
- The movie is always going forward - never backward at any
point
- The user is required to answer all questions
- The summary slide immediately follows the last question
- Questions are checked to be reported
When I have all 20 questions grouped together at the end of
the movie, everything works perfectly - until I want the results
reported. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. The problem
comes when I mix the question slides into the content slides and
want to report the total number of questions in one report. We
don't use an LMS (pretty small) and just dump info into Excel - the
email has the data I need just not for every question - Captivate
numbers the questions correctly it just doesn't wait for all 20 to
be answered before it totals the score.

Answer quiz questions in any order?

I am creating a project that branches into three main topics
from a menu. At the end of each topic there is a set of quiz
questions. If the users choose to complete, for example, topic two
or three before topic one then the questions after topic one read
the message "You did not answer this question completely" and the
user can not choose an answer.
I believe this is becuase they are completing questions 4-8
(for example) before questions 1-3. How can I change my project so
that they can answer the questions in any order.

Hi Lougle and welcome to the Captivate forums!
Captivate REALLY wants you to take quizzes in linear order,
so if it's possible at all to allow non-linear movement, your best
bet is probably going to be as follows:
In the Settings node of the Quiz properties:
1) Required dropdown =
Optional - the user can skip the quiz
2) Allow backward movement checkbox =
Checked
Ideally, the combination of the two should allow both forward
and backwards movement, but with Captivate quizzes, nothing is
certain.

Adobe Presenter 8 Quiz Bug

I am using Adobe Presenter 8. I set up a 10-question quiz. When the user passes the quiz (score of 70% or better) it correctly directs them to the slide I designated. When the user fails the quiz (less than 70% score), the presentation gets stuck on the final question slide (it grays out and you cannot click on anything) and does not go to the slide I designated in this case. How can this be fixed? Thank you.

We experience a similar problem with Presenter 7.0.6.
We are using Microsoft Office Professional Plus Version 14.06129.5000 on Windows 7 Professional
Our browser is Internet Explorer Version 9.0.8112.16421.
Quiz settings include infitnite attempts at quiz, one attempt per question, move to next slide after answering. In our situation, whether a user passes or fails the quiz, the presentation will not move from the last question slide to the final results slide. If we leave the quiz open, it will move to the next slide after 1:30 and play the audio on a blank page.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for taking the time to look at this!

Last quiz question just freezes

A colleague of mine made a Captivate movie with three quiz
questions. They are designed so that the user is allowed one
attempt at each question, and if the user gets the question wrong,
they are taken to the slide previous to the question slide so that
they can review. The problem occurs on the third question. When the
user gets it wrong, it does go back to the previous slide, but then
when the user clicks the Next button to go back to the question
slide, the question cannot be resubmitted. I've adjusted the number
of attempts, the scoring, the backward movement, the pass/fail,
etc., and I have no idea why that one question slide is being such
a pain.
I realize it has something to do with it being the last
slide, because when I move it up to an earlier slide, it doesn't
have the same problem, but the colleague wants the slides in this
order.

Okay... gotcha. Usually when you have a quiz in a captivate
movie - you cannot retake a quiz just by navigating back to it. In
order to retake it - the movie would need to be reopened. I just
created a quick sample to try it out myself - and was able to
retake the quiz on the 2nd slide (I think because it is relaunching
the movie by going back to the first slide.) When I get to the 4th
slide - and get the quiz wrong - I go back to the 3rd slide - then
when I get to the 4th slide again, I cannot retake the quiz. I am
able to still navigate forward, because I set the option 'allow
user to review quiz' in the Quiz Manager. This will display the
'Next' button when I go back to a quiz question. You can then
remove the 'Review Area' that displays, if you don't want them to
have review information. I can explain this further if you need me
to. I can't think of a solution to be able to have them retake the
quiz - without relaunching the movie. I'm stumped. If I think of
something - I'll post.

I have been using PE and PRE 9 for e few years, I just purchased the upgrade bundle PE and PRE 10. My problems are :-
Having installed the PE 10 after falling into all the traps eg installing without Norton 360 running, Disabling Adobe Bridge, and learning to disable running programs without FEAR using the Task Manager. I thought I had conquered all the install problems. I then clicked on the ICON behold the organiser sprang into view, breifly about 2 sec then disappeared from the screen. The Task manager shows that the program is running.
I spoke to Support by chatting with someone for about 1 hour but ended up being told that they could not help me and gave me a phone number to ring in Australia. I rang this number to be told to wait asIi was being transferred, this wait was for 2 hours, I tried again and waited for 1 hour no answer.
I am waiting to see if any one can help befor trying to install PRE 10

Dear Ken I sent a long reply but I dont think I sent it correctly.
Here is the abbreviated version
1     Found and loaded the 2 shortcuts
2     still unable to load the program   the organizer starts is visable for 2 seconds then minimises and flys into cyberspace
3     The Task Manager displays that the program is running.
4     I have started receiving The instruction atxxxxxxxxx ref memory at xxxx could not be read and Font capture photoshopserver.exe application error reports.
5     I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times with no success
6     As I am in the middle of movie making quite ok with PRE 9 and PE9 with huge data files, I am not willing to risk losing any projects
7     Thanks for your help and maybe ifyourself any one else reading this (including Adobe Support) has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it
8      I have another computer almost identical which I installed the program on and it is working fine the I call this no 2 machine   the number 1 machine is giving me the trouble

ATV dropping my video and music list

I've had my ATV a few weeks, and it was working great. I just recently upgraded to ATV 3.0.2 and iTunes 9.0.3. Now after every TV show, in the middle of movies, or pausing a show or movie, my ATV drops my iTunes library and I have to close, re-open, and re-sync iTunes in order for it to reappear.
My iTunes says it's syncing and the ATV is still listed in the device menu. The ATV doesn't show anything and when I look at computers, it's not showing it's syncing anymore. My ATV says it is still connected to the intranet via my Linksys network WiFi router.
I have rebooted my computer, done a factory restore of my ATV and almost every other troubleshooting tip I can find.
Is anyone else having this difficulty with ATV? Any thoughts on how to keep from having to restart iTunes for each new show?

yep same here since 3.0.2, for no apparent reason my Apple TV will lose its connection to iTunes on my Mac Pro
I know for a fact that my wifi is working just fine, using my laptop and ipod touch no problems
but my Apple TV shows no bars on the signal strength from my wifi?
in fact it keeps losing all of the wifi data, the Apple TV network settings are all empty?,
yet if I reboot the Apple TV it's all back and working fine for another half an hour then it loses the wifi data again, what on earth did they do with 3.0.2!!???

T530 buggy dual GPU's

I purchased a kind of souped-up T530 with the sole purpose of making it my entertainment laptop with the intention of connecting it to a big screen LCD via the DisplayPort cable, basically to watch internet streaming video or DVDs. The T530 came with two GPUs, an NVIDIA 5400M and an "onboard" Intel HD Graphics 4000. I have had some buggy issues with the way that the two GPUs communicate with each other since the beginning, but after some experimentation - maybe I have finally fixed my problem. Since I had very little luck finding any documentation of the types of issues I was having, I am posting this here for any others.
Since day 1, the NVIDIA Control Panel Application (which you must use to configure multiple displays) has listed the DisplayPort (the TV) as being under the control of the NV5400M and the laptop display as being under the control of the Intel HD Graphics 4000. Having the two displays under the control of different GPUs presented a bunch of problems, such as displays suddenly blacking out in the middle of movies and DVD's only playing on one screen or the other (never both). I had monkeyed around with this for months and just thought this was the way that it was. See below screen print for how NVIDIA Control Panel saw the situation:

I was also having power management issues (another thread here) and someone suggested that I change the GPU configuration in the BIOS. I had never done this before, so I went in and under Config-Graphics Device, there are three choices - none of which are particularily informative:
1. Integrated Graphics mode will achive longer battery life.
2. Discrete Graphics mode will achieve higher graphics performance.
3. NVIDIA Optimus mode runs as Integrated Graphics mode and Discrete Graphics is enabled on demand. NOTE: NVIDIA Optimus mode should not be used if using XP.
I had apparently been running with option 3, NVIDIA Optimus mode which seemed to make the two displays sort of choppy, where if the laptop display woke up from black screen, it would black out a second time for a few seconds as if the two GPUs were trying to sync up to each other. Back to BIOS - I changed the setting to option 2, Discrete Graphics mode and re-booted.
The result was that the multiple display blackouts stopped happening, but the laptop display and DisplayPort display still came up as each being under the control of a different GPU. So, one of my problems was resolved, but I still couldn't watch DVDs simultaneously on both displays (a feature called Theatre Mode on AMD gpu's).
I also tried monkeying around with the Intel HD 4000 control panel, which would never allow multiple displays and seemed set on only wanting to control the laptop screen. I don't think the Intel HD4000 even has access to the DisplayPort. It is very confusing having two graphics control panels, an NVIDIA one and an Intel one. Only the NVIDIA Control panel allows any manipulation of a secondary screen, btw.
So, I tried going back to BIOS again to see what would happen if I chose option 1, Integrated Graphics mode. This time, on re-boot - the NVIDIA Control panel wouldn't even launch, so it must be turned off with this mode. So, the only option is to try using the Intel control panel which won't even recognize secondary screens at all. So, apparently with Integrated Graphics mode, you lose any ability of using the DisplayPort at all.
I went back yet again and changed the BIOS back to option 2, Discrete Graphics mode - thereby putting the NVIDIA 5400M back in business. But guess what, this time the NVIDIA Control panel shoiwed both the laptop screen and the DisplayPort both under control of the NVIDIA gpu only. This resolved the problem of the DVD's. Now DVDs play simultaneously on both displays now that they are both under the control of a single GPU.

I have found this whole experience (months actually) of the dual GPUs to be very ill documented and very buggy. To think that I only corrected my problem by changing the BIOS settings four times is incredible to me. Anyway, I suppose this post will just float down into obscurity, but I had been having ZERO luck finding anything about this topic at all on the boards.

Even more on this topic. I ended up re-booting for an ulrelated reason and found my display adapter configuration again back to the split scenario with the Intel HD 4000 in charge of the laptop display and the NVIDIA NVS5400M in charge of the display port. I was surprised to see my configuration return back to the undesired configuration that was causing me so many problems.
It turns out there is also a secondary setting within BIOS Config-Graphics Device, right beneath the three choices for the graphics mode I had mentioned before. The setting is called OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus and it says "If Enabled, System BIOS automatically switches Graphics device setting to NVIDIA Optimus Mode if the OS supports this feaure, and to Discrete Graphics mode if the OS does not support it".
So, my secondary setting had been ENABLED, resulting in my request for Discrete Graphics mode (#2 above) being changed automatically back to NVIDIA Optimus Mode (#3 above). I changed this setting to DISABLED, changed the mode back to Discrete Graphics (#2) and have re-booted a few times. It looks like it should stay in Discrete Graphics mode for good, I am hoping.
Just playing around with this BIOS setting a little, I can boil it down to this:
If Integrated Graphics mode is chosen, only the Intel HD4000 gpu is active in Device Manager, the NVIDIA gpu is completely de-activated. With this mode, there is no ability for a second display at all. I suppose the idea here is that you are completely running on battery power and wouldn't have any secondary displays attached anyway.
If Discrete Graphics mode is chosen, only the NVIDIA NVS5400M gpu is active in Device Manager, the Intel HD4000 gpu is completely de-activated. With this mode, there is an ability to have a second display via the Display Port, and the NVIDIA gpu takes charge of both the primary and secondary displays. While it may be the most power consumptive, it works the best for actually viewing video.
If NVIDIA Optimus mode is chosen, both the Intel HD4000 gpu and the NVIDIA NVS5400M gpu are active in device manager. With this mode, each gpu takes charge of one of the displays and must try and communicate with each other with regard to video rules and power consumption (I have found it to be buggy). Also, the switch setting mentioned above indicate that this is the default setting unless you specifically tell it not to be.
I am mostly happy to finally understand what had been happening and it appears that by me putting the T530 into Discrete Graphics mode, that multiple power state errors, random screen black-outs, and inability to view DVDs correctly were finally corrected after months of mystery. This seems to be a very little documented problem, as I have been searching for the answer for months...
