RAC on Oracle VM (2.1.1) as given in Note:567407.1

Hello,
I am trying to install a RAC configuration in an Oracle VM (2.1.1) environment (Following Note: 567407.1).
After much time and effort, I could bring everything upto installation of iscsi-target (on VM Server node) and iscsi-initiator utilities (on one of the Virtual nodes) successfully. The Server is built using Oracle VM 2.1.1 while I used installation media to install OEL 5.2 on the virtual node. The other RPMs for iscsi-target and client utilities are just the ones described in the above document (iscsitarget-0.4.16.tar on VM Server and iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-5.i386.rpm for the node. While I could download the former from the specified location, I had to google the latter to download from fedora.redhat site).
However, when I run fdisk -l as given in the document, I don't see the virtual shared disk in the output. Only the local disk is displayed.
Anyone can help and/or point to the right direction? Much appreciate it.
Here is the output on the node (after starting iscsi client):

I am unable to find note 567407.1 you are refering to on MetaLink, not even through advanced search and the "Document ID" option...
Is it still there?
If so, can you provide a full URL to the document on MetaLink? TIA!

How can i do the RAC with Oracle 9i ?
The Oracle 9i has a RAC(Real Application Cluster)module , please who can tell me how can i let it working .
    Which hardware the RAC need's
    Thank All ,

That is right you need atleast 2 boxes. The two servers will use the same hard disks.
The concept is an extension of OPS(Oracle Parallel Server).
Basically, you install Oracle Server Software on both the boxes, One database will be shared by both the servers. You can access your database through the Server1 or Server2. If Server1 fails then the Server2 will take over all the connections. You can add or remove any servers to and from the cluster any time you want with out impacting your production.
    They share load, reliable, scalable....

  • RAC and Oracle Sequences

We have a RAC running for two instances , we have noticed that one trigger on update which is using a sequences to get ids is not allocating such sequences
on sequence as expected , is every instance of RAC caching a set of sequences and the other instance have no idea about this , is this a configuration which has
to be done at RAC level

what is the difference between RAC and Oracle clusterware?RAC = Oracle Real Application Clusters
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clusterware/clusterware_for_unbreakable_linux_faq.html#
In the event of a system failure, clustering ensures high availability to users. Redundant hardware components, such as additional nodes, interconnect, and disks, allow the cluster to provide high availability. Such redundant hardware architectures avoid single points-of-failure and provide exceptional fault resilience.
In Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) environments, Oracle Clusterware monitors and manages Real Application Cluster databases. When a node in the cluster is started, all instances, listeners and services are automatically started. If an instance fails, the clusterware will automatically restart the instance, so that the service is often restored before the administrator notices it was down. In this sense Oracle Clusterware is the basis for Oracle Real Application Clusters.
In those environments RAC ensures the continuous operation of the database as well as its scalability by running more than one database instance simultaneously, typically one on every node in the cluster.

  • Oracle10g RAC with Oracle clusterware

    Hi,
We are installing Oracle10g RAC with Oracle clusterware with ASM on Solaris 10. Does anybody have a installation/configuration manual for this combination.
    Thanks,
    Murtuja

Sun would not recommend using Oracle 10g RAC without Sun Cluster. Setup for that configuration would be found in the Sun Cluster Data Service for Oracle 10g RAC and the Oracle installation manuals.
The installation of Oracle Clusterware alone would be documented in Oracle's manuals. If you have any problems with that, you are better off asking Oracle.

  • Can  RAC support Oracle VMs ONLY ?

Can RAC support Oracle VMs (virtual servers only) ? ie No physical servers.
or must have a mix of physical and virtual servers for RAC ?
    QN

No Real Application Cluster technology has ever supported more than one database.Quite untrue.
I know that both you and Tom Kyte take the stand that a cluster should have only 1 instance per node.
That doesn't mean that it is not possible to have more than one database in a cluster -- i.e more than one instance in a node.
That doesn't mean that it must always be so. Installing a separate cluster and additional EE + RAC licences for a separate database can be quite expensive. Of course, your reply is "consolidate". That is another debate that has been going on for years.
A discussion on multiple databases on RAC is also at

I solved this problem by using another pl/sql block:

    delete from test
    where (a, b) in (('D', 'Y'));

  • Oracle.forms.webutil.file Transfer.File Transfer bean not found

I've followed tons of instructions for 2 days to install and configure webutil and I finally have success with the demo. However, when I add this to my own form and use the CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_FILE_IMAGE
I end up with error oracle.forms.webutil.file Transfer.File Transfer bean not found WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.getMaxTransfer will not work.
What am I missing? Thanks for any help.

Make sure your form subclasses object group webutil.olb, and that webutil.pll is also attached. Make sure that your forms folder contains webutil.plx (a compiled version of webutil.pll). Unless the default config (in formsweb.cfg) includes the entries required for webutil support, you must specify a config that does have these entries. 10g, which comes configured for webutil, provides a config called webutil for this. An example URL might look like:
    http://myappserver/forms/frmservlet?form=myform.fmx&config=webutil
There could be other problems, but since you're able to run the demo forms, I'm guessing that what I've mentioned are the first things for you to check.
    Hope this helps,

  • Please help ! "Oracle Reports Server CGI - Reports Server name is not specified."

    Hello Gurus,
I have an html form that allows putting in a parameter. Upon
submit the form, it'll pass a string URL with the parameter to a
    new browser.
    My url: http://localhost/servlet/oracle.reports.rwcgi.RWServlet?
    diary&14252
I also used keymap looks like this
    diary: report=Diary.rdf server=servername desformat=pdf
    destype=cache userid=id/psswd@db myoid=%1 %*
But I get an Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot
be served at this time. Oracle Reports Server CGI - Reports
    Server name is not specified.
However, if I move the cursor to the end of the same url (or put
a space at the end) and hit Enter, then the report is
displayed. I guess there must be something wrong with my
configuration. Please help. I appreciated any inputs from you.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ashley

I found the solution to my problem. It was nothing to do with
the cgicmd.dat keymap file, but the html form itself. It's
confused between the url arguments and form arguments from the
submit button. So, what I did was open a new window with all
arguments instead of using the submit function.

Though oracle is tough secured one, I don't know exactly the complexity of using Oracle database. Using MySQL 4.1.22 in my website https://www.puntercalls.com/ . Though the site is based on providing share market tips, it deals with a huge amount of stock market data and in much more real time basis hand-to-hand with NSE and BSE info which means a tough security is the utmost demand of the time.
