RAID Admin Issues - not connecting

I installed my first Xserve yesterday. When I open the RAID admin and attempt to connect, all it says is gathering info... with a status wheel and it doesn't go any further. I can let it sit there all day and it doesn't say anything but that. ANy thoughts?

Are you sure you're using the correct application? RAID Admin was intended for use with Apple's XServe RAID:

Perhaps you mean RAID Utility? Launching it should show you information regarding the Apple RAID Card:

RAID admin software not fixed by Quicktime 7.12

I too have had the RAID admin software not launch recently and all evidence points to recent Quicktime updates as discussed by others.
The latest quicktime update does not resolve this!
So in interests of a workaround I have written a small app which uses a terminal command listed in the thread-

This app relies on the fact that the RAID admin file is resident in /Applications/Utilities/Xserve\ RAID\ Update/

I'm on quicktime 7.1.2 and it ***** cause there is no reinstall for it. Just tomorrow i'm receiving a second 14 disk rack and i'll be damned if i can't configure it.

Server admin could not connect to localhost

Hi,
the Problem I have is that I could not connect to the server at localhost. Server admin shows connection error.
Maybe it is a problem with my certificate state. I have deleted the default one and have to recertificate my own one.
Any ideas?

Others have posted in the past that the SA or WGM has 'issues' when the default cert is blown away.
Have you considered doing a clean install on another volume, then move the default from that install back into your current one? Just an idea before I've had my first coffee.

Server admin can not connect to server

My 10.6.8 Mac Mini server decided that no user defined in the Workgroup manager should be allowed to connect to the server using Server Admin.
Not root, not admin, not myself although I have admin privileges.
What would be the proper way to fix this?

Server Admin will not connect SSL issue

I try to connect using Server Admin from any computer and I see this in the logs.
servermgrd[58]: Got error -9806 for SSLHandshake
servermgrd[58]: Exception in threadListen: Socket: Connect failed
This all started when I was working on new SSL Certs for the server.
I am trying to find a way to delete the certs via command line.
serveradmin settings info
shows the certs, but for the life of me I can't find a way to delete them.
Any one know how to do this?

I changed listenForRegularConnections to true.. then restarted servermgrd.
Now any one know now how do I point Server Admin.app to the correct port listed in the .plist?
I tried localhost:687 and no go..
I don't think the :port works because when I use the ssl port I do not get the error in the logs.
I also stopped the firewall to make sure I wasn't blocking the any ports

There is no getting back the WMI namespace if it was renamed or delete. It is not supported to do this without contact CSS directly for support.
You have two options, Attempt to clean up the mess of renaming the WMI. This might take a while due to the complexity of WMI and the unknowns of what was exactly done.
Call CSS and tell them what exact you have done and get them to work with you to solve this problem.

Business Rule issue: Not connecting to Planning outline

Hi,
We have recently installed EPM 11.1.2. We created a planning application and we now want to create BRs for this application. However when I tried connecting to the outline it is not able to see the plantypes. I have followed the following steps to troubleshoot:
1. Opened Planning application through web and then open EAS to create the BR. This doesn't resolve the issue.
2. Restarted Planning, EAS and RMI services. This also doesn't work.
Am I missing something here?

Thanks for replying. I was creating the rules using Admin and it has necessary access rights. Following are the entries that I found in the HBR logs that seem to point to the cause.

Wireless Comcast Issue - Not Connecting

I had Comcast HSI installed yesterday. All my PCs are liking it just fine, but I can't get my Mac to see the network at all. When I try to set it up by giving the name and password provided by Comcast, I get an error. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? In my research of the issue, I saw that some of the older OS models had problems with Comcast but mine is modern, so I am not clear what the issue might be. Any insight it appreciated.

The setup you have sounds like two separate components, a moden and a WiFi router. Both are consolidated into one unit.
You set up your modem inside the modem configuration, and that is independent of your Mac. The name and password provided by Comcast should not relate to your Mac at all, since it is strictly about connecting your modem to your ISP.
A more likely problem is that you have one of the Mac-incompatible routers. Read this:

no worries.
If you don't have a configurable switch, then this won't work. You will need to remove the VLAN from the SSID, and the interfaces. The downside is you will either be open, or have a PSK, since we can't use the vlan to differentiate the encryption.

(Urgent) HBR issue: Not connecting to Planning outline

Hi Everyone,
I am not being able to select the planning outline while developing business rules (but I can select the Essbase Outline).
Whenever I expand the Planning node, an error pops up the details of which says:
Error connecting to Essbase server machinename/testapp
There is a details button which says:
Could not log into Planning *"Detail:Could* *not* *log* *in* *to* *Planning* *Server".*
My application is a Classic One, and i choose "Bussines Rules" in calculation type.
I've already check the permissions, I put "Administration" for all roles.
Can anyone help me out. I am not being able to view the rules in the planning UI (and consequently cannot attach them to Forms).
I am using Version: 11.1.1.3

Try it:-
First logout from EAS and Planning. Try to login with Planning application owner ID (if you have access):
Login to Planning App with AppOwner ID and then login EAS with same ID and PW, then goto EAS---> Business Rules---> Repository View----> New Rules----->Associated Outline and try drill to PlanningApp.
Be sure If your all services are running properly.

RAID ADMIN CONFIGURATION RESETS AFTER LAUNCH

The RaidAdmin configuration resets after starting the computer, I have always to reconfigure it every time I start the compute.

If you are talking about LUN masking settings, that I have seen before but not due to machine restart. but simply for certain release of RAID ADMIN, the feature has some bug such that the effects did not 'stick'.
Other then that I have not seen RAID ADMIN settings not stick across reboot.
You may go to Disk Utility to make sure that you have verify and repair any potential permissions issues on the primary application disk volume.

RDP to Windows 8 or 8.1 issues - admin or console connection not working

Hi,
I have a number of issues when connecting to my Win8 Pro (and now Win8.1 Pro) machine via RDP. First off, I know that most of the issues I am about to list below should technically be resolved if I connect to the console or admin session of my machine, however
they don't.
The issues I am having are:
1. If the user is already logged in, when I connect I get a black screen for a few minutes before I can actually see the desktop, etc
2. If there is no user logged in already, then when I connect I get a black screen and then never actually see the desktop, therefore I have to reboot the machine, physically log into the machine and then I am able to RDP successfully.
Note: I have done some research on issues # 1 & 2 and I think this is because of my Nvidia drivers - as I have a Nvidia GTX660 Ti installed.
Although issues #1 and #2 are annoying, they are nothing like the issue I am experiencing below:
3. Once I am logged in and can access and use the machine, no matter if I am connected to the console session of the machine or not, I can't run most applications. For example if I start Command Prompt, or try and access any Control Panel item, or System
Properties, etc I get the following error:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."
4. In addition, I can't do any kind of administrative function on the machine I am RDP'ing. I can't install software, I can't access any form of system setting, I can't power on VMs in VMware Workstation, etc.
The user I am logging in as is a local administrator and I am connecting to (or at least I am trying to) connect to the console session of the machine. I have tried this from the following different setups:
1. Another Windows 8.1 Pro running mstsc /admin and just normal mstsc
2. From my Mac using Microsoft Remote Desktop app and ensuring I select the "Connect to Console session" option
TROUBLESHOOTING:
================
In order to attempt to resolve this problem, I have done the following troubleshooting:
1. From the problematic Win8.1 Pro machine, I have RDP'd (via mstsc /admin) to my other Win 8.1 Pro machine. I have tested running cmd, installing apps, etc, etc and I have been able to do everything just as I should. To me this means that there is some
sort of configuration issue between the two machines.
2. Based on the information from #1 above, I have compared the following settings between the two machines and have set them to be exactly the same:
- User Accounts - same settings (local admin, etc) + UAC disabled
- Windows Firewall - both on and set to default settings
- Local Groups have the same members - Local Administrators, Remote Desktop Users, etc
- Remote Desktop enabled and set to least restrictive option (less secure option)
- Local Security Policy - Checked Local Security Settings to ensure all settings are exactly the same
- Local Group Policy - in particular for Remote Desktop settings - both exactly the same configuration
- No additional 3rd party apps are installed on either machine which I think could cause these issues (other than Nvidia Graphics Card drivers on my problematic machine)
3. Done extensive internet research and can't seem to find any information or people having the same issue as myself
4. Clean install of Windows 8 Pro and tested - same issue. Installed all latest drivers, Windows Updates, etc c- same issue. Upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro - same issue.
5. Created a new local administrator user and tested - same issue
6. Checked event viewer and can't seem to find any specific error that would give insight into what is causing this issue
At this point, I have come to a dead-end as I am not sure what else I can try to resolve this issue. If issues #1 and #2 can't be resolved, then I am happy to "live" with them, however the rest of the issues are really frustrating as they are preventing
me from easily achieving what I need to.
If anyone can point me in the right direction or has some insight into these issues, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that test result before, sorry I forgot. If I log into the problem machine locally with the same user I am logging into when logging in via RDP, I can run cmd, I can install apps, I can do everything as I should
be able to as I am a local admin and have disabled UAC.
If however I log in with the same user via RDP (whether or not I have already logged into that machine locally with the user or not), I have the problem of no admin access. This is why I think it is a problem accessing the console or admin session of the
machine.
Sorry, but I am not sure by what you mean by this question "If so, how about change other computer to
remote to this problematic Win8.1 Pro machine?"

Raid Admin Not Connecting

I've left my comuputer and Xserve Raid running as advised, and went out of town for a week. It has been totally inactive. Today I opened Raid Admin and nothing happens. It doesn't search, there isn't a log etc. I added system and typed in the address, it searches but does not connect. However I am able to use Raid with FCP, and can open and play QT's that are on it as well as open other files. Should I just re-start the computer? It is connected with ethernet cable. Nothing has changed except the fact that I haven't touched anything in a week.

It doesn't have to be a G4 powerbook, it can be any Mac with RAID admin installed. I think the only reason he mentioned a powerbook was that most have their RAID connected in another location of the building and it is easier to access by walking down the hall with a laptop instead of lugging their desktop into the server room. Your current setup should work. Although you shouldn't have to ping the RAID because if you're on the same subnet, Raid Admin should find it automatically. If you have a router or switch or hub, maybe try to connect that between you and the RAID and see if Admin will pick it up. Then proceed to give it a static IP and you should be all set.

Mobile Admin Error - Could not connect to middleware

We have installed MI 7.0 on a new server of ours. Now I am trying to access Mobile Admin.
I go to the http://<ip>:<port>/nwa link and log in with my user.
Then I get this message I get
-when I click on Heirarchy Grouping: Failed to get hierarchy group elements from middleware. Reason: Could not connect to middleware
-when I click on Device Maintainance: Unable to read data; cannot connect to middleware
and so on for every link in Mobile Admin.
Can you guide me why such problem occurs and how it can be solved?

Drives say "not installed" in RAID Admin on lower controller

hi all,
I'm trying to re-establish connection to an Xserve RAID which has been in storage for some time. I can see all the drives and the RAID array and its data on the upper controller no problem (using RAID admin). However the three drives on the lower controller all show a red status light, and RAID Admin actually says "not installed" for each of the three drives.
Its critical i get access to the data on these drives. Its very unlikely all three drives experienced a complete failure at the same time so don't even show up as inserted into the Xserve - does this sound like a faulty controller?
what can i do to confirm the problem, and does anyone have any suggestions for resolving it wthin the Xserve RAID and/or otherwise getting access to the data?
could I plug another empty drive i know is working into a spare bay on the lower controller and if it doesnt show up as present in RAID Admin assume that the controller is definately faulty?
if the controller is faulty, is there any way of replacing the controller and installing the three discs and getting back access to them?
I'm no Apple expert, any help appreciated.

If you want to test the controller the easiest way is to turn the unit off, unplug it, swap the controllers and start it up again. The fan, power and controller units are completely part swappable so that should be pretty easy.
