Ramdom freezes

Hi all,
Well... That's it... I get random freezes every week or so. Here are a few infos:
I'm on a HP tx1420 ca
3 gigs of ram
AMD Turion X2 2.3 Gz per core
kernel 2.6.25-1
nvidia [EDIT:] WAS: 169.12-3 IS: 173.08 [/EDIT]
This does not occur at any time in particular i.e. I do not do anything in particular that could cause the freeze.
Querying my logs via
grep /var/log/* | grep [time of the freeze]
or time of the freeze -1 or -2 minutes do not show *anything*.
Finally, here is the output of dmesg
Linux version 2.6.25-ARCH (root@architect) (gcc version 4.3.0 (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Apr 19 15:39:26 CEST 2008

Since you're running 2.6.15, you need the latest beta Nvidia driver (AUR).

    xfx 4870 1 gb

    windows 7 64 bit ultimate.
now, like a month ago i posted a topic about the same, my sys ramdomly freezing, but because I;m one of those that hate to real manuals, I made a stupid mistake, I was using 3 sticks of memory, so I worked with 3 gb ddr3 at 1066, it worked fine, now aprox 3 weeks ago I bought the other stick like you guys says, but still the same problem, when I set the speed even to auto on the bios, which is 1333, the computer freezes randomly, it can be while I'm playing, whatching hd movies, using msn messenger. there's no pattern.
I tought I was the psu, i had a crappy 550w logisys, just crap, I't was kinda funny because when my system was under 50% of load, the psu smell was horrible, I was expecting fireworks soon  so I bought my new baby. the corsair tx750w, but I set the sticks at 1333, run amd fusion, run crysis, after 30 min, I had to do something else, close amd fusion, and boom, it frozze.
any idea guys what can be?

actually my processor is running pretty well [ 35 idle -  45-50 load ]
    might be the mobo?
I will be upgrading  to a 790gx pretty soon anyways to do crossfire.

  • ITunes 10.6.1.7 crashing

    Hello,
I created a music server running iTunes 10.6.1.7 on a virtual machine with its library located on a SMB share. This music server will then stream trough AirPlay to an Airport Express and be controlled by Apple Remote on iOS. This setup works flawlessly up to point where it crashes...
The virtual machine is running Windows XP SP3 (fully patched) and the host is a Linux system runing Ubuntu 10.04 and VirtualBox 4.1.12. The Linux host also acts as a SMB server to iTunes using samba.
What I'm experiencing is iTunes ramdomly freezing, having to use Task Manager to kill the process. I also noticed that iTunes seems to be leaking memory. Watching Task Manager, when streamming from an internet radio to an Airport Express, iTunes seems to alocate memory constantly at rate of about 4K/second. The odd thing is, if I minimize the process it releases all the allocated memory falling to about 10M and then going back to the allocating cycle... This is a problem if you want to minimize the RAM that is given to the virtual machine. However, even increasing the the RAM, iTunes still crashes before exausting all the RAM. It seems also that there's no connectivity issues with streamming through the virtual network adapter since I can then open an RDP session an restart iTunes.
    Any help is appreciated....
    Luis

After further testing, I noticed that iTunes not only becomes totally unresponsive but will start using all the CPU until I kill the process. After restarting, it works again for a while and then it dies again...

Thank you very much.and sorry with my english. I'm thai

It is strange because the Intel "coretemp" temperature sensor should be detected. You could try to load the coretemp module manually using modprobe and then test whether the output of sensors changes. If not, you should at least be able to monitor the temperatures via the sysfs files using
    cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon*/device/temp1_input

  • Random Shutdown 601-7250-090

Well Well Well... MSI does not answer my mail so I type here...
I have the same problem "Random Shutdown" and I have changed everything in my computer, memory, gfx-card, psu and so on...

    601-7250-090
So does all the mobo 601-7250-0x0 to 601-7250-090 have the same problem...?
I have tried 3 K9N SLI (601-7250-090) and same problem on all of them...
"Random Shutdown" can take everything from 1h to 2 weeks...

Hi guys, the 7250 nightmare seems inmortal.... I'm another victim of it... I understand 100% Mattiz POST and I also had a PC store so I was able to test many brands into my first (and last k9n sli platinum 601-7250-010k), my history?:
I bought my main rig a year ago with:
    MSI k9 sli p 601-7250-01k
    AMD X2 3800+
    2X512MB CORSAIR XMS DDR2 800 PC6400
    WESTERN DIGITL SATA 1,5 80GB
    DVD-RW LITE-ON
    PSU AGILER 600WTTS
When I set up the HD, after 5 minutes of fresh installation of win xp s2... ramdom shutdowns... (also have to unplugg power cord and wait bout 30 sec to replugg power cord and press power button to boot)
    MEM'S tried: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PC6400, KINGSTON DDR2 667, SAMSUNG 667, MARKVISION 533...
PSU tried: AGILER 600WTTS, 700 WTTS (BOSSKILLER TOLD ME THAT AGILERS PSU'S SUCKS SO...) COOLER MASTER XTREME POWER 600WTTS +18V DUAL RAIL, THERMALTKE PUREPOWER 700WTTS...
    HD tried: MAXTOR 80 GB SATA / PATA SEAGATE 250GB WD 120/200GB SATA 1,5 / 3,0
After two weeks of sad frustration... the my system get stable with:
    AMD 3800+ 1GB XMS CORSAIR + SEAGATE SATA2 250GB + PSU COOLER MASTER 600WTTS
    BIOS SETTINGS:
UPDATED FROM 1.0 TO VERSION 1.5
+ MEM TIMINGS AND VOLTAGE SETTING MANULLY 5-5-5-12-23 1,9V
(NOT NECCESARY TO LIMIT UDMA MODE TO 2)
A month later... I added a eVGA 7600GS 512MB + 1 GB more in two stick of corsair XMS2 (same brand and specs that first ones)... again... ramdom freezes... I remove eVGA card... ramdom freezes...
    Solution:
Roll back IDE PATA/SATA drivers to xp native drivers (uninstallin' nvidia drivers)
Three months later... I change CPU unit... with my new AMDx2 5600+ and guest what?! yeh!! incredible! ramdom freezes/shutdowns... no matter that I quit 5600+ and put 3800+ again...
    Solution:
Flash bios to 1.6 Version and limit UDMA mode to 2
    Today:
I still have bios version 1.6, I read that 1.7 have the "HT Sync error"!!! so.. my system is now great! I don't need more bios flashes... not shutdowns at all: specs in my signature, hope my large history helps! good luck kid!
PD. I'll never bought a 7250!!! xD but I can't leave MSI... so I'm waiting  k9 NEO next week to built another rig, hope my next chapter have a happy ending xD

  • MacBoock Freezes almost ramdomly, specially under graphics requirements

My macbook is 2 years old, White, 13-inches Core Duo 1.8Ghz (not Core 2 Duo). It's my second one, first one was replaced becouse of constant kernel panic problems...
With the new one, i've had no more kernel panic, but random freezes... it could be while surfing the web, changing from one application window to another or wherever...
freezes always look the same: i can still move the cursor, but cant do anything with it, in 10-30 seconds it becomes the spining-colour-wheel, only thing i can do is hard reset. If i try to put it in sleep mode (closing laptop and then opening it) the screen is still on, but almost invisible (zero brightness). I've tried sometimes to wait, and after 15-30 minutes, if I close the laptop and open it again, only sometimes is possible to get back to work.
Freezes are random, but I can force my macbook to freeze if I try "cover flow" in leopard, I only have to silde a few photos or files in cover flow... and I get 100% freezes... I can live without cover flow, but other apps, like google earth or others that require graphical resources, will make my macbook almost always to freeze.
    Anyone have experienced anything simmilar?
    Any idea?
I've tried to repair disk permissions... and some other simple advices like that... I had this problem with tiger, and now with leopard... also I'm sure that it is not a ram problem (becouse it happened with the 256+256mb ram from store, and still happens with 1+1Gb ram that I bought some months ago)
    thanks

    Thanks, Lyssa.
I might try the Activity Monitor, but when this happens I can't switch apps. I can switch Spaces, but that's about it. But thank you for the suggestion, because I'm now going to try checking the Console right after to see if it can tell me anything. (If it still happens when I'm not using Mail.)
With that said, the crash is always very sudden and seemingly random. I mentioned previously that everything gradually slows down, but it's not exactly gradual or slowing down. To better explain, everything becomes unresponsive except the cursor. Here is the usual process I go through:
    1) I notice that I can't use Finder or switch apps. I use Spaces to move to any open apps and attempt to save and quit. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't. Everything else seems normal at this point, no spinning wheel, nothing slow, etc., but the Force Quit window (if I can open it) is completely blank.
    2) I try to relaunch Finder by option-right-clicking its icon in the dock and choosing "Relaunch." Nothing happens. I repeat this if possible, but usually I no longer get a response from the dock. By this point, I can move my mouse but clicking no longer produces a response.
    3) Occasionally, I try to shut down or restart by pushing the power button once and pressing enter in the dialog box. This has never fully worked, but the menu bar usually disappears and some apps may quit.
    4) Finally, I give in and hold down the power button to force a shut down.
If I get another crash, I'll post my findings from the Console. Until then, any advice or ideas are welcome!

I have the same problem with my Mac Pro. I first experienced the problem a few minutes after powering it up with the stock factory configuration before installing any programs or migrating my old Mac data. None of the usual prescriptions (zap PRAM, reset SMU, etc.) work and the freezes are random but regular. Sometimes I can go for 3-4 days without an incident and sometimes the freezes occur within minutes of each other. In all instances, the freezes leave a GPU hex dump in the system.log so it's clear that:
o The problem is not related to third-party software and / or extensions
o The problem is not related to usage profile (i.e. whether or not the graphics subsystem is under heavy load or not) because I've experienced the problem just scrolling through email
o The problem is definitely related to the graphics card or PCI controller because every freeze is accompanied by a GPU hex dump
o Once the freeze occurs, the screen no longer updates but the mouse pointer, albeit sometimes garbled, moves around and the system is otherwise functional. I can ssh in from another machine and manipulate files, run diskutil, etc. However, I have not found a way to reset the graphics subsystem from the command line (if there even is a way) so ultimately I need to run the reboot command to "gracefully" restart the system. Again, this indicates that the problem is isolated in the graphics or PCI subsystem and is not a general memory, CPU, motherboard, or software issue.
10.5.2 and the Leopard Graphics Update did not help at all.
I spoke with several technical support reps at Apple Australia about this and, not surprisingly, none of them were aware of the problem (or at least wouldn't admit it) and had no recommendations other than to bring the machine in for repairs. Until Apple acknowledges and identifies the problem, submitting it for repairs is at best a blind shot because it could easily come back with the same problem as others in various forums have already experienced. For now, I've decided to limp along with the problem until Apple identifies the culprit(s).
Therefore, I strongly suggest that everyone that experiences this problem report it to Apple. The only way we can push Apple to acknowledge and address the problem is by flooding them with reports of the problem. Until then we'll just be blindly hoping for a solution...

  • Retrieving Freezed and Unfreezed data from a Single Report

    Dear All,
I have a requirement where we have 2 types of users.
    1. End User and 2. Super User 3. Intermediate Users
We have source system data which will be retieved on a daily basis.
Here Super user freeze the data ramdomly.
We need a report to be generated which with show
    1.Freezed data to Super user
    2. Unfreezed data to End User and
    3. Intermediate User who needs both freezed and unfreezed data.
Can someone suggest the most optimal way to execute this requirement.
    Early response will be appreciable.
    Thanks,
    Sai Gautam

    Hi,
you could use the scheduling function of BOE for this.
For the Super Users: The Report will be scheduled after the data has been frezzed
For the End Users: They can run the Report On- Demand on any Time
For Intermediate Users: They can do both. View the Instance of the Scheduled Report and run the Report On- Demand
This could be handled by Permissions in BOE.
    Regards
    -Seb.

  • 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2008) Hard Freezing & Apple Refusing Support

    Hi all,
I have tried installing Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / Vista SP1 32-bit and 64-bit on my 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, and in all instances the machine has hard locked up / froze randomly, which can only be rectified by a hard reboot. Sometimes the machine locks up within 5 minutes of turning it on, other times it may be after an hour when browsing the Internet. Most times it will lock up when actually installing Windows - usually during the 'Expanding files..' stage.
The lockups happen even when simply running the basic Vista install with no other software, not even the BootCamp drivers. Installing the BootCamp drivers has no effect as the machine also freezes after I have installed them also.
Bizarrely, OSX works fine on the same machine. I am suspecting a hardware issue with the hard disk (bad sectors?) or SATA controller given the point that it locks up most frequently at.
I have reformatted the BootCamp partition on the machine a number of times now, and installed a fresh copy of Vista every time to no avail.
Frustrated at getting nowhere, I took my MacBook Pro into an Apple store to the Genius Bar on two occasions.
On the first occasion, the staff member dealing with me went into defensive mode as soon as I mentioned running Windows via Boot Camp. He stated that Apple do not support Windows issues and that I had to contact Microsoft. At no point did they attempt to diagnose if it was a hardware issue, despite it locking up during the Windows installation, which to me certainly points to a hardware issue.
I then called up AppleCare, spoke with level 1 and 2 technicians, but they basically told me the same thing - sorry, we don't support Windows, go and talk to Microsoft.
The second time at the Genuis Bar was a little more succesful, as I demonstrated the laptop locking up. The genius then repartitioned and reinstalled Vista on the laptop only to see it lock up 13% into expanding files. He told me that if I hadn't got a customised machine that he would swap it out straight away, however because I ordered online and specified the 2.8GHz CPU and SSD disk, I had to call AppleCare. He made a note on the incident report recommending a hardware replacement.
Today I called up AppleCare again and although the support technician was very sympathetic and helpful, after speaking to a number of departments he was unable to resolve my problem satisfactorily (i.e. repair, replacement or refund) and suggested that I write a letter of complaint to Apple Operations Europe.
He also said that my problem was down to a security update issued as a patch by Microsoft, which I can't say I agreed 100% with, but went with it. He said that Apple only support Vista in a configuration that was valid at the time of relase of the MacBook Pro's, and that they don't support Vista with any future updates! Curious about this, I installed Vista (non-SP1) and the same issue occurred.
Finally, I borrowed a friend's MacBook Pro and have been testing it side by side with mine. My friend's laptop works perfectly whereas mine locks up frequently.
Given all of the troubleshooting I have performed, including trying the same thing on an identical laptop with no adverse effects, I have come to the conclusion that this is a hardware issue, not a software incompatibility.
Despite all the above, Apple refuses to acknowledge that this might be a hardware problem. I don't care what the resolution is - repair or replacement - I just want a working laptop!
I have been an Apple convert since 2 years ago, recommending their products to friends, family and colleagues. I've never had a bad experience up until now, however this incident has certainly made me reconsider my view of the company.
Whilst browsing the Apple support forums, I came across a number of people with identical issues to those that I am experiencing, all without a solution or acknowledgement from Apple. I have included links to these discussions below in the hope that Apple might take a look and comment on them.

'To the person who still has these problems, replace your motherboard, by then I don't think it's driver issues for you anymore. I believe it might be logic board. My OLD macbook pro had a freezing problem, and i tried every possible driver, and then when I got them to fix it, they replaced the logic board and voila everything fixed. Have you gotten Apple to try and fix it?'

There are many more discussions pertaining to the same issue on the support forum.
On the Apple website (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html) it states:
'Boot Camp supports the most popular 32-bit releases of Windows XP and Windows Vista. When you use either operating system on your Mac, your Windows applications will run at native speed. Windows applications have full access to multiple processors and multiple cores, accelerated 3D graphics, and high-speed connections like USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and Gigabit Ethernet.'
Boot Camp 2.0: Which versions of Microsoft Windows are supported?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1888
You can install the following Microsoft operating systems via Boot Camp 2.0 or later.
Microsoft Windows Vista (64 bit) (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) on certain Mac Pro and MacBook Pro computers
Boot Camp: Macs that work with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit editions are supported on certain Intel-based Macs via Boot Camp, which is included with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
These Macs support 64-bit editions of Windows Vista:
    • Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008)
    • Mac Pro (Early 2009)
    • MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009)
Clearly my 15" MacBook Pro supports Windows Vista 64-bit, and my understanding is that Apple should have tested this configuration thoroughly as part of the hardware development QA process. In order to sell a product advertised as supporting a particular feature, surely you must support customers who run into problems using the machine for the advertised purpose?
Does anyone know the configuration of Windows Vista 64-bit running on the 15" MacBook Pro that Apple supports?
Has anyone else had luck getting support for these hard lock ups?
Sorry for the rant - I'm just not feeling the Apple love right now

hi, good to know that other people also having problems with the late 2008 MacBook Pro.
I have the following problem which is definately related to the chipset. i recently bought the P256 CMFSSD-256GBG2D and the performance on mac os x was really poor. installation took 20 minutes from an usb stick. i thought the ssd was broken, but its definately not. i removed a 2 gb ram module out of my mbp and tada the ssd runs at full speed. i also put the ssd in a friends macbook pro 4,1 with 4gb ram and "INTEL" chipset and everything worked. after testing the ssd in nearly 8 different systems, desktop computers notebooks netbooks, i definately can say, my ssd works, but not in my nice macbook pro. after opening a thread in the corsair forum, which also got me no positive feedback, i called the hotline here in germany. the guy on the phone said "i will take care of the problem", after 40 minutes on line, getting no answer, i hung up.
and to make things clear, my macbook runs fine with 4gb ram and a normal hdd on mac os x 10.5.7 and windows xp sp3.

  • Droid X keeps freezing & rebooting itself

I just activated my new Droid X 2 days ago & ever since I activated it, It keeps freezing & rebooting itself. I tried removing the battery for 5 minutes & restarting. I also checked for any software updates. I even went as far as doing a complete restore to factory condition, and the problem still exists. It sometimes reboots itself without even touching it! So, yesterday I went to a VZ wireless store after calling support over the phone. The store told me they need to replace it & will ship me a new one. Of course, as usual, they didn't have any in stock. I'll be lucky if I get my replacement by September. Verizon was rushing to get this phone out as soon as possible to go against the iPhone4. Well, next time they should make sure their products are quality controlled & this will be the last time I ever buy a cellphone when its first released. I am sure i'm not the only Droid X user that has the same problem.

This is my third Droid X since last September. The first two just kept rebooting themselves for no reasons. The very first one ramdomly reboots itself in ven when running in safe mode. Yes, you can run Droid X in safe mode just like Windows, in Safe Mode the phone can only be used to make and receive voice calls and text. So it was not a problem with apps. Verizon then sent a CPO to replace it. It behaved the same way as the other one. Verizon then sent a new battery to try fix the problem, that was not the battery. I've tried to wipe the Phone out to factory setting and in the middle of setting up and entering my Google account info, it reset itself. This third one lasts a week so far without rebooting, I keep my fingers crossed though.
Have a wonderful day, guys and gals.

  • IMac keyboard/mouse Freeze, (Bluetooth AND USB!)

A few weeks ago my iMac started to freeze ramdomly, mouse/keyboard dont work, I even tried a USB mouse and keyboard with bluetooth tuned off, and the same thing happens, and when it freezes there is nothing (I tried desconecting USB keyboard/mouse, switching USB ports with no success) I can do but to unplug it from the power and plug it back in, but the weird thing is that I have LogMeIn installed, and when it freezes I am still able to use the computer thru LogMeIn, and I even WIPED my main drive, and WHILE reinstalling mountain lion the SAME thinga happened, mouse/keyboard would freeze.... I dont know what to do anymore.... please help!

Thanks for the feedback. BTW, for future reference, if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. My 27" iMac's HD went south and they replaced it onsite. Took about 1 1/2 hours. There wasn't any other down time, since I had multiple up-to-date and bootable clones on ext FWHDs and could run it until they got the parts and could come in.  It was interesting to learn how these boxes are put together.

  • Install of 8.6 or 9.0 freezes

Tried searching for a bit, but I didn't see anything in this forum that helped. If I missed something, I apologize--please point me in the right direction!
Got out the old beige G3 to play around with the other day. I decided I wanted to attempt to install OSX on it since I've got a zif 1Ghz upgrade sitting around and some extra hard drives.
My tale begins with a fairly stock G3. The original (I'm guessing) 6GB hard drive is an Apple OEM drive, but it has passed on. It had OS 9 on it and was running fine. Since the drive died, I decided to start with a new hard drive and 8.6 since the tower (by the way, it's a Rev. A) came with 8, right? I figured, perhaps wrongly, that the best path to OSX would be by running all the proper updates through OS 9. Sounds like 10.2 is fairly stable for the G3 tower without lots of tweaking, so that's what I was shooting for.
Well, here's what I did to prepare the drive and computer:
    Pull extra RAM
Pull personality card (only card installed)
    Replace PRAM battery
Set drive and CD-ROM to master
Boot to open firmware (set-defaults, reset-all)
    Reset with p-r-opt-cmd dance
Then I booted to the 8.6 install disk. I ran disk setup and initialized the 80GB ATA drive (WD Caviar) with two partitions (7GB and 73GB roughly) since I was planning on working my way up to OSX and have read about the 8GB partition limitation. Just in case I installed the drivers for the disk with drive setup after I initialized it.
Restart, boot to 8.6 install disk. Run the installer, selecting the ~7GB partition. It freezes with four minutes left. That's not good!
I had three RAM modules, so I started from scratch and ran the whole procedure from top to bottom with each module. Same thing.
Tried the OS 9 install disk. At this point, I was a little frustrated. Maybe my install disk was messed up. Nope. OS 9 install freezes with seven minutes left every time.
Is it possible that all three RAM modules are corrupt? This computer has been sitting for quite some time. The PRAM battery was toast, hence the replacement. Oh, and by the way, the only things hooked up are the CD-ROM and hard drive. No ZIP or floppy attached during the installation attempts.
Am I missing something super obvious?
Thanks for taking the time to read this poor tale. I look forward to being enlightened.

Jon - My goal now is to get this machine back to where it was in the not so distant past. I'd prefer not to start pouring money into it if I'm not sure that it will work. I'll keep that in mind if I do find a solution to my problem, or if I can fairly definitively narrow my problem down to the motherboard.
BDAqua - Thanks. I knew the reset-nvram didn't work on this firmware, and I--probably mistakenly--assumed that doing the p-r-opt-cmd dance took care of that reset. I'll try that in about an hour.
While I'm sitting around, I decided to test one more variable--the CD-ROM drive. Booted to the OS9 disk and initialized my 80GB disk. Then I used Disk Copy to copy the CD to a later partition. I'll install 8.6 until it freezes. Believe it or not, it'll show the flashing disk with question mark, and eventually boot 8.6. This is not so with OS9. If I let that install until it freezes, it won't boot at all. So I'll try to boot up 8.6 with another hard drive attached, and attempt to run the OS9 installer to install on the other hard drive. At this point I'm grasping at straws. I'm not even sure the installer will run if it's not on a CD.
So I'll try the reset after this (probably fails).
    thanks!

  • MSI VN220GT MD1G|GeForce 220 GT - causing lock ups/screen freezes

Hi, I've been searching everywhere for my problem, and the things I find usually are left unanswered :(
I recently upgraded my old graphics card (GeForce 7300 GT) to the GeForce 220 GT, at that time I was using Windows XP SP3. Everything went fine then, I downloaded the newest driver from nVidia (195.62) and restarted, everything went smoothly.
It was then my computer started to freeze, to the point where I can't do anything (mouse/keyboard unresponsive). I am forced to force reboot. This freezing usually happens randomly when there's nothing to provoke the problem.
So I decided to upgrade to the new Windows 7. I did everything it told me to and everything went very well. But the problem still occurs, but more often, and around 30 minutes after logging in. I got the Windows 7 32 bit version of the new nVidia driver (195.62) and installed it. Did nothing. I have also tried to update windows which also did nothing.
These forum threads ask the same question I am now asking:

I did some more research on the net and it seems this PSU is labelled under many different names. I found a Portuguese site that did the test for this unit and then used the google translator tool.
    refer to http://www.clubedohardware.com.br/artigos/1818/1
    Some translated extracts:
The Coletek is a national brand aimed at the OEM market, or its source is aimed at companies that assemble PCs They have a separate brand for products geared to the retail market, the C3Tech. Today we test the model LC-8460BTX S (which, despite its name, is an ATX and not a BTX) that is sold as a source of 450 W. Really?.....
....Speaking of curiosity, in Figure 7 you can see the marking of the type of fuse in the circuit board of the source. All sources bring this information. But the curious thing here is that the marking indicates that for a source from 150 to 200 W a 5 A fuse should be used and to a source from 230 to 300 W from a 6.3 A fuse should be used. As this power supply uses a fuse of 6.3 A, we have a source between 230 and 300 W, according to their own existing markup on the printed circuit board thereof. As the manufacturer can turn that into 450 W on the label of the source is a magic that Mr. M can not explain.....
....The Coletek LC-S 8460BTX burned when trying to draw about 225 W (which would be our test number seven). So the most you can pull it was about 190 W (which would be our test of 200 W). More information and video on the next page.
So I recommend that you perhaps translate the whole article to get the full results. In your case, I believe the PSU should be the first place where you should try something a bit more realistic before you do anything else.

For a system with a 220 installed PSU with +12V~30A minimum is recommended. My recommendation is to get nothing less than a quality PSU such as a Corsair VX450W +12V~33A. That junk PSU is typical of the worthless ones that are often provided by case manufacturers and examples of similar units that can be purchased for as little as $10 (USD) on eBay.
Thank-you so much guys, you've most likely have just diagnosed and gave me a solution for my problem
At first I never knew all PSU's were different, and that my new graphics card could handle whatever I had in my system at the moment.
I don't think I will bother checking my PSU if my current PSU is a Okia or a Xion, I may as well upgrade the thing anyway
Just some things I need cleared up though:
Firstly, is it the Corsair VX450W that I would want to buy and install to run my card? Is it affordable?
And secondly, are PSU's hard to install/upgrade? Where can I find a guide/tutorial for this kind of thing?

  • Lock-ups/freezes - Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

Hi all, I have been the owner of a MacBook Pro since August or so. My problem is that when working with my MacBook Pro, occasionally the display freezes up. Sometimes it recovers, sometimes the machine refuse to recover. If I listen to iTunes, I hear the music playing on in the background, which indicates that this is an issue with the graphics chip, and not the computer in general.
I have searched the Internet, and it seems I am not the only one who has issues with the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. According to slashdot.org, Apple acknowledges that this may be an issue (http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/08/10/11/1518246.shtml).
Have anyone else experienced these kinds of issues, and if you did, how did you solve them?

Hello! I am feeling a little more secure now that there have been quite a few posts about the poor preformance of the nVidia cards in the SR Macbook Pros, its comforting to know this isn't an isolated issue. I've gone as far as contacting Apple to let them know of the poor preformance. They've were, as usual, very nice and as helpful as they are allowed to be. Currently, I have a replacment on the way apparently, my original was deemd DOA I believe. However, it seems at the time all we can do is report our issues to Apple. My main concern is the legnth of time these machines have been out, and the amount of units sold to unknowing customers who are being sold on what Apple is marketing as a strong feature of the machines: the graphics card. When in reality, the card is extraordinary, the preformance in OSX is extremely poor. It is up to us as consumers to let Apple know how aggrivated we are.
Please, take the time and send your responses and feelings to Apple. You can do that here:

  • Lock-Ups and Freezes PLEASE HELP

    Hello everyone..
I come here to see if anyone can help me... Ive done it all and nothing is working.
I just recently started having problems with my computer, im not sure why this happend but ill try to explain everything as best as I can.
The problem started a few days ago while I was playing SWG's. I was playing and all of a sudden my machine froze, the screen locked-up and then after about 2 min the entire system restarted. I then logged back into my windows and after a while a system froze and restarted yet again. I though it was a SWGs issue but then the computer would freeze while browsing the net and doing other tasks.
I have formated my machine, re-installed my drivers, and re-installed the hardward. Nothing has worked.
    My computer specs are

    Hope thats enough..
One last thing... When my computer restarts after the problem i get a message asking me to report the problem to microsoft... i located the error file and this is what was writen in it....

If what you are saying, and I am reading correctly:
The machine and game was working just peachy and all of a sudden the problem manifested itself?
Did you do ANYTHING to change your system prior to this happening to possibly have an effect?
the fast that you said you have re-loaded the OS and removed and re-installed the hardware with the same result tells me that there may be some sort of hardware failure and this could get difficult to troubleshoot.
First things first, try a memory testing software like memtest86 to see if you get any errors.
