Random bursts of songs

Has anyone else had this problem? When I have my iTunes going (not necessarily with a song playing, but just up and running) I'll get a 1 - 2 second clip of a song (REALLY loud, no matter where my laptop's volume is), and I don't have any of them on my iTunes (there are 4 different songs that play). What the heck do I do to stop this?! It's really annoying, especially when I'm at work.

Was this working in a previous version of iTunes and it started doing this when you upgraded or did it just suddenly start doing this without anything changing?

  • My iTunes randomly cuts off songs at the end. I've tried to create a new library and reimport my old library, but to no avail. Can anyone help? :)?

Hi, I am using a MacBook Pro, and downloaded the new iTunes update. I have OS X Lion 10.7.4. It all of sudden is randomly cutting off some songs before the very end of the song. I've tried to read past posts and create new libraries and re-import the old one, but it doesn't seem to help. It is not all of my purchased songs, nor is it all of my downloaded from CD songs, it's just a particularly random set of songs (I haven't checked them all, but it happens every 5 songs or so when I play the whole library on shuffle). This never happened to me before with other versions of iTunes, and when I called the support line the guy says he has never heard of this problem before... !
I have 3000 songs, so I don't want to manually bring each one in again. I am also not super technologically brilliant, so if you have had this problem too and have a simple answer, please help !!!

I have a similar problem with Itunes - the funny thing is it only does it on my Mac and not my PC running Windows 7 - seems strange the Apple software runs better on a Windows computer.  There are other posts about this here on the forums that have been running for two years with no solution - and I was just about to buy a new Ipod - oh well.

  • ITunes has recently began corrupting my music library and my Podcasts. An exclamation mark has appeared at the beginning of a random number of songs and against some Podcasts with the result that they will not play on iTunes. Message is that iTunes cannot

iTunes has recently began corrupting my Music  and some of the Podcasts.  An exclamation mark appears at a random selection of songs - about a thoussanad of them - and they will not play as iTunes says that it cannot locate the file.  This also has happened on a number of Podcasts.  Any one else encountered this?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, if you are running Windows (you've posted in iTunes for Windows, but your sig mentions Mac OS X...), and as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • In random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

in random mode some songs stop playing before being finished

I've heard this excuse before, that what we think is random really isn't, but when certain trends occur enough times, its pretty clear that there is some kind of algorithm or something in the coding that affects the shuffle.
I know random means random, but there are too many "random" coincidences and apparent patterns that occur to raise doubt that it truly is as random as Apple claims.
One such example, is that when using the Shuffle Songs feature (that shuffles all tracks on the iPod) I had 2-3 tracks from the same album (an album I had never even listened to yet) showing up within the first 40 tracks five times in a row. Numerous other songs showed up in at least 3 of the 5 "trials." Out of 8,000 songs.
On a playlist (of 300 or less songs is all I have tried), if you have multiple songs off the same album, you are far more likely to hear at least one other song off a given album within about 10 songs then you are to not hear a song off the same album. A specific example of this is on a playlist of 105 songs I have, there are 3 songs off one album, however nearly every time 2 of the songs will play within a 10 track range, and nearly as often all 3 songs will play within the same 20 track range.
I know random isn't perfectly spaced songs, but when certain things happen often enough, the odds of it become so low that even the "true random" explanation doesn't cover it.

  • In the library there is a cirlce with a exclamination point next to a random number of songs. What does it mean and how do I get rid of it?

In the I tunes library next to a random number of songs there is a circle with an exclamation point. The songs won't play and how do I get rid of this and what does it mean?

    Hi rjs317,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there are some songs that iTunes isn't able to locate, the songs may have been moved to another folder or disk. The article linked below provides more information about the exclamation point symbol and provides suggestions that will resolve most missing media issues.

My iphone5 itunes playlist seems to have a mind of it's own, after selecting a song to play it will randomly flash through songs on my playlist without stopping. Thank you.

    Hi TakesTwo2Tango,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Random pauses during songs.

I've had my nano since november 2005, about a month ago while I was listening to it my ipod suddenly paused for no reason(I dont recall jerking on the headphone wire or jack at all).
Ever since then the ipod keeps randomly pausing during songs, the odd thing is it doesn't only do it when I wiggle the headphone jack, it does it sometimes even when its sitting flat on my sofa without anything at all touching it and alot of slack in the headphone wire. Also the ipod does it even when the hold button is on as well so it isnt the play/pause button.
I tried sending it to apple but under the reasons for replacing the nano there was no option for damaged headphone jacks so I chose "damaged dock port" since it is very close to the headphone jack, and I also wrote in the description that the headphone jack is broken. Apple sent back the same nano saying they couldn't find any problem with it so I'm out of ideas.
Oh and yes I've tried resetting it and everything.

hmm another question, when i try to open another service request to send my ipod in again, it says it cant because my ipod already has a service request open, even though ive already gotten my ipod back since last week when i sent it in...any idea how long it will take till i can send it in again?

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs.

My Ipod Nano 5th generation keeps skipping randomly within a song and sometimes skips to new songs. I have tried resetting it. I have tried updating and adding new software. I even tried just leaving it off for a few months and still it has this problem. The shake skip setting is not on. What I am to do? Also it is out of warrenty

Since you have already tried a hard reset, perhaps you could try a full restore of the Nano in iTunes. This process wipes all content from the iPod, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device. This would rule out the possiblity of data corruption or a software glitch on the device.

  • Will pick a song on ipod touch and then it will randomly play another song.  Is there a fix for this?

My daughter's ipod.  I know little about them.
She will select a song to play and then it randomly plays a different song.  Often with the picture for the original song displayed.  We've tried resetting and no better.
Is there anything else we can try?
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Any fix for random art and song order problems after adding new music?

If I sync my touch with itunes as a restore, all cover art, albums and playlists are correct. Once I add anything new or make a change and re-sync, random cover art is missing and random songs are in the wrong order. The only way to fix the problems is through a complete restore. Has anyone else had this problem or figured out a fix? I am using the latest itunes on a PC with XP.

A few issues, but sorry let me try to understand.
Adding new music, 'XXXX's iPod cannot be written or read'' can you let me know the number. most likely music format is not iPod Compatible like HE-AAC.
started skipping songs  - these are normally due to corrupted ID3 tags, try converting them -File-> Advance -> IPOD version or use MP3 validator to fix all songs in the library. (My Apologies, only work for MP3 music that skipped)
As for item 2, you can try Hard Reset if you like to download MP3 validator.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • Ipod nano 7th gen will stop playing randomly in a song. PLEASE HELP.

Please help me with this. My new Ipod Nano will randomly stop playing during a song. What gives? Thanks.

My Ipod Nano 7th gen does this as well. It will pause randomly, then i will hit play again, will play for a minute, then pause again. Seems like it does it the most when hooked up with a cars AUX input.
I'm about to make an appointment with apple.
    Thanks.

  • Ipod Classic Randomly Loses Tracks/Songs when sync with Itunes

My IPod Classic Randomly loses Songs from playlists. I can sync with iTunes and it will keep say 8 songs out of 10 in a playlist (sometimes all 10 if I’m lucky) but if you re sync it will have 7 or 9 different tracks in the playlist. Its Very annoying as my girlfriend uses it for teaching and songs are always missing.
I have tried updating IPod, re-installing ITunes and restoring IPod
Any Ideas??? Apart from buy a new one but from what I can guess seems like a software issue.
    Thanks

I was having the same problem.
I have an i pod classic 80GB (with the wheel) I think it's 5th generation
I would start a Sync, it would sync 2 or 3 songs then stop or hang up, which did not interfere with any other function, so I would not say it froze.
Once I ended the sync by clicking on the X next to the sync progress bar at the top of the window, I ejected the ipod and then plugged it in again.  Then  I selected my i pod under Devices in the menu on the left-hand side of iTunes.  Clicked on the summary tag.  Clicked on  "Manually manage music and videos" Clicked ok and apply.
When in manual mode, you cn drag songs from  iTunes to the device icon in the sidebar. Once I downloaded the song or songs or album that was causing the problem, I then unselected manual load, and everything else was able to sync normally on automatic mode.

  • IPOD Skipping to a random part  of songs

    Hi people,
I have a 5th generation iPod. Recently since installing the latest patch 1.2.1 I've noticed from time to time, my iPOD while playing a playlist, after completing a song will start the next song, (duh wait for for the problem ) but not from the start of it.
I have been unable to replicate this problem so I am unsure what the cause is. Sometimes it will skip tot he middle part of a song sometimes to the end. Clicking fast forward would skip to a random part of the next song.
Starting the song again will fix it, but I find this annoying as I turn my wheel lock on while playing.
    Anyone know what's going on?
I have tried restoring my iPOD once but that did not fix the problem.
    Regards,
    Bobs_Pizza

Here's how to solve this problem for ALL songs
left click your first song [in your music library]
now scroll down to your last song, hold shift, and left click the last song
right click and click "get info"
click OK after the warning message [for editing multiple files at a time]
disable the "remember playback position" option
connect your iPod, and this should do the trick!
also, your iPod doesn't just remember that option from iTunes, it also remembers your EQ preset for certain songs and also volume adjustment for certain songs [-100% to +100% in case the song is too loud]

  • Random Sorting of Songs

When I sync an album which has a correct tag (in terms of track numbers) the iPod Classic put it in random order
    For instance I have tracks:
    1. Chunga's Revenge
    2. Bowling On Charen
    3. Good Lobna
    In the iPod it goes
    1. Good Lobna
    2. Chunga's Revenge
    3. Bowling On Charen
The thing is there are albums which sync great and albums which do not

    Thank you.
My question is: "How does one tell iTunes to put these tracks "back" into one album?"
CMD-I just lets me readjust the names of the file not its place in the album.
For example an album called The Best of Fred is imported to iTunes. This album has ten individual songs. For some reason iTunes then decides to have each individual song as an album or perhaps just choose to have two or three of these songs on the album called The Best of Fred but spread the remaining songs all over the iTunes library. All I want is to put all ten songs back into the album called The Best of Fred! Clicking and dragging these songs only let me put them into a Playlist or the iPhone/iPod when connected - there's no option to drag them back into an album.

  • Random Deletion of Songs

I'm using iTunes 9.0, but I know this problem existed before then.
I have about 75% of my music on an external hard drive, and I've noticed that many of my albums are randomly loosing 2-6 tracks. It started with just a few albums, and its getting worse.
I'm getting quite irritated. Having to keep reloading songs. I see that on the web others have had this problem, but it seemed isolated to the Windows version.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I am also having this problem and have been looking for a solution/reason but have not had any luck.
    Has anyone else?
