  • HT4859 Help!  My whole family shares one apple id and my daughter deleted all of our contacts from her phone, unknowingly deleting them from ours too!  I need to find out how to restore an archived copy.

Help!  My whole family shares one apple ID and one of us deleted a large amount of contacts from our phone, not realizing that they would be deleted from all of our devices.  Is it at all possible to restore an archive of our contacts?  Is there such a thing?

icloud is designed so that only one user uses it to keep his/her devices in sync.  Problems such as yours occur when multiple users use the same account - icloud is not designed for that.
If a user is using your account, they should get their own account and disconnect from your account.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Once they have a new account, they should go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.  This only disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost on icloud.  Then enter the account ID that you want to use.
Note that an ID used for iCloud does not have to be the same ID used for iTunes.  You can all keep the same iTunes store Apple ID to share purchases, but for iCloud, use different IDs.

  • Cannot restore OD archive.

My server was an OD master. I had archived the directory and authentication data by using server admin tool. Somehow, I set the OD setting into Standalone mode, which destroyed all auth data. Then, I reset the mode again to OD master, and tried to restore the data from the archive that I made before. Restoring process had shown no errors. But, when I checked the directory information trough workgroup manager, it is still empty (except diradmin). So, actually the backup archive is not restored yet.
After searching on the Internet, one said that I have to stop Open Directory service first. But, there is no Start/Stop button for OD service in my server admin. Unloading com.apple.DirectoryService.plist, made me unable to do remote log in into the system, even with root password.
fyi. I had no problem previously with restoring OD archive, including moving in OD archive from other xserve machine. For the moment, I have to restore the OD data into another older machine (successfully), and run that machine as OD master.

I have the exact same issue. 10.5.8 Server. Did you get anywhere with it? I have tried to set the destination to all manner of places but it goes through the motions as you stated but the image is not created. It is rather frustrating as it makes you think there is something major wrong with the OD Master.
If you have any luck please let me know as I to am considering upgrade to 10.6.

  • Restore an archived database in other environment

    Hi,
Is is possible to archive an application from a server and restore it on another? I tried it, copied the resultant files from the App folder from A to App folder in B, restarted all services but when I try to restore the archived files are not available.
    Thank you

If it is just the .pag files you are restoring then it is not going to work, it might be worth having a read through the Essbase section in the backup and restore guide to get a better understanding - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E40248_01/epm.1112/epm_backup/ch04.html

  • Restoring after archive and install

after using 'archive and install', what is the proper procedure for restoring applications, plugins, etc?
    1. manually copy?
    2. migration assistant?
    3. reinstall using disks/installers?

If they are only in the former system you forgot to to preserve your user settings.

I am using Snow Leopard Server.
I had to re-install server, before I did that I made an archive of my directory.  After install I restored my directory.....everything good in workgroup manager, but when I go into Server Admin and open users or groups it just hangs "looking for users/groups",  also it doesn't allow me to add user/groups either.  The same thing happens, it just hangs.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I meant to say Server Preferences, not Server Admin...sorry!

If you have a cold backup (database shutdown properly) without the redo logs, change this :
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "XE" NORESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOGto
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "XE" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOGYou have to change the NORESETLOGS to RESETLOGS for Oracle to recreate the online redo logs.

  • Reuse Number Range SD after archiving document

    Hi,
we have archiving documents SD of the past years. Is possible reuse the range of documents considering that the range is almost finished?
    Thanks.
    Charly

    Hi Charly,
I think the answer to your question is "yes" from a Technical point of view, but "not recommended" from a Business point of view.
¿Did you evaluate changing to a new number range within the (unique) 10 digits SD number range instead of "reusing" numbers of already archived documents?
    Best Regards,
    Franck

Log Gap is :- 135098-138524 (~3427 logs)You choose option of ROLLFORWARD.. Hmm is it really necessary ?
May be you have problem with only archive *135098* , which is not transferred, even though that archive not transferred the next archives of them will be transferred,
So if you just restore only missing archives(very less) that should be fine.
If you are sure that above all archives are not transferred then you better to go with RollForward.
Already you did, still check this link might helpful. http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/rman-incremental-backups-to-roll-forward-a-physical-standby-database-2/

  • Can't get OS on exterior FW drive to boot after restore OR archive & instal

I had a crash on one exterior FW drive that had my backup 10.3.3 OS on it (just used it for emergencies and for those applications that couldn't handle anything higher.) Did a complete restore using retrospect and all files appear to be intact, but the drive won't boot. I tried:
Checking and unchecking "ignore permissions on this volume"; that had helped with the original crashed drive in the past to get IT to boot; no change.
Tried booting from the original Panther install disks and repaired permissions on the new drive with restored OS; no boot.
Tried booting from the original Panther install disks, with the intention of attempting an archive and install of the non-booting OS; installer WOULD NOT let me install on that disk, red exclamation mark across disk and "continue" button ghosted out.
Tried checking "ignore permissions on this volume" once again; tried installer once again... would not let me install on the restored drive.
The new drive is a FW 500 gig drive; could that have something to do with it? The installer was willing to let me install on my other external 450 gig FW drive, but I don't want the OS on that system, I want to update the restored OS on the 500 gig drive so I can boot from it like the drive I replaced.
Is there a way to "bless" the OSX install on the 500 gig drive and get it to boot without archive & install? Or if not, to get archive & install to install it on that disk!?!?!?!?
    Thanks!
    Leslie Bell

That would have worked, but it also would have cloned over all the library and application additions to the 10.3.9 OS. What I basically wanted was a nice simple clean 10.3.3 OS install that I could use in emergency cases (secondary boot drive.)
What I did was finally shift all my data around, plus relied on backups, and just formatted and installed the basic Panther OS from my original discs on the 400 gig hard drive that would let me install it on.
And then put all the data I had to juggle around back... still doing that as a matter of fact and will be doing it all night long (had one big video editing project that has to be copied back over.) Not to mention updating various program data new locations.
But I have the backup OS installed and working now.
I'm not sure, but possibly the reason it wouldn't install on the 500 gig hard drive is it's an external Seagate, with a backup feature if you push the on button while it's on (hold to shut off.) Maybe something about that implementation of that feature made it impossible to install on that drive. So I made it my basic data drive, and turned the second Iomega 400 gig drive into a re-installed clone of the Iomega 250 gig drive that crashed.
Only took five days, but next time I'll know to install the OS first and not just try to copy over an entire drive via retrospect backups, because now I know that won't boot. (From a USB installed backup drive, no less!!!)
    Thanks!

  • Restore User Archives from Full and Incremental backups

Ok Groupwise 8. User's keep their archives under the main users folder on a Novell Server. Groupwise is running from Linux server, so the main post office and domain are backed up nightly on the Linux server, the user archives are backed up nightly on that server.
I have had to restore current messages a user accidentally deleted from their mailbox, Reload handled that as those were current. But now I have one user who didn't know what the folder GWArchive was and blew it away. It was his archives. He needs them back. So I have restored them from the Novell server backup, first from the last full backup and then the two incremental backups that cover up to the point he deleted the folder. The incrementals were restored to separate folders because I didn't want those to overwrite the main files as these are incremental.
How do you "merge" all these together to rebuild that archive index? Is it just a matter of moving all the .000, .001, .002, etc. files over, then the *.db files, and the index files? Or something different?
Thanks in advance - I wish there was someplace that describes all these file types, what they are, etc. a really technical level explanation so I understand this a lot better.
    Kind regards,

    * iliadmin,
when you do incremental backups, it's very useful to have an option to restore a certain point in time and let the backup app collect the data which was in place at that point in time. Else copy back the base, then *overwrite* with the first incremental, then the second etc., moving up to the latest backup you have.
Which file is which is pretty well explained in the manual. The files are the same as in the live PO, just for only one user when you look at an archive.

  • How do I restore my archived mail folders after downloading Yosemite

After downloading Yosemite, all my archived mail folders have disappeared - can someone please help me, I really need to get this information back?

    Do you have a backup?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then Mail/V2/Mailboxes
