Raw file problems

I recently updated my Nikon DX camera with a Nikon D610 FX. I can no longer open my raw files in CS5 Bridge and Photoshop. What are my options or what can I do to resolve this problem?

You will have to get a newer version of PS or use the free DNG converter.

  • Raw file problem in elements 9

a few days ago i could open and edit raw files in my photoshop elements 9 software with no problem. now when i try i get a message saying unable to open as not a recognised photoshop file. what do i do?

What is the format of these files and the camera model they're taken with? Are you able to import these in Elements Organizer/Editor? Please try opening one such file in PSE Editor and save once again as PSD (dont forget to mention the extension).
    Thanks

  • RAW Files problems with 5DMarkIII

I recently started shooting RAW in my new 5DMarkIII but everytime I try to transfer those files to Aperture 3 it crashes and no file can be transfered to my computer. I have the app up to date and the firmware of the camera is the last one. I have no problems with the JPG files, but the RAW files crashes Aperture and I cant get them on my computer!

Thanks! and I apologize if my english is not good enough.
No problem your english is probably better than mine!
Update: In the last two hours Aperture could transfer a couple of files but I had to do it one by one. Then, I attempted to transfer a whole group of files, it crashed again.
This looks like just one of your images on the card is defective. Try to import without rendering previews: Turn off the Preference: "Previews > new Projects automatically generate previews" before importing.
Then create the previews one by one after import. Probably Aperture will crash when you try to render a preview for the defective  image, but then you will know which image to remove.

  • Nikon D90 RAW files problem

Recently uploaded and installed the Aperture 2 upgrade which claimed to add RAW capability to the D90 plus other new cameras, but something is amiss - the files appear in browser windows but you can't do a full screen view of them - I get a "loading" message with the spinning wheel then the image shows up by itself on the screen but the same size as the thumbnail image in the browser window. Can't zoom in or anything either. Anyone else having this problem? FYI checked the about Aperture window which says I'm using version 2.1.2 3G13.

    FIGURED OUT A SOLUTION!
Sorry for shouting, but should others out there run into this problem, here's how I fixed mine:
Credit goes to Pogster who in another thread gave the link to get the upgrade or RAW support for the D90: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DigitalCamera_Raw_Compatibility_Update2-3
I had done the upgrade via Apple's Software Update which supposedly should've taken care of this, but perhaps I did it after originally downloading RAW files from my new D90. Regardless, the upgrade has solved future imports and to correct the existing files (thankfully only 30 images) I first created a new project titled "to fix", moved the relevant images into that project, the went into the aperture library and into the "to fix" file in the library (opened the aperture library package contents and "to fix" project file within it by control clicking), then copied the original NEF files onto my desktop and imported them again into a new project. Then just deleted the entire "to fix" project. Now all is good and the images are the proper size. This approach would be a nightmare for 300+ files, but it did work.
Thanks for the help out there...

  • Olympus E-500 raw file problem with long exposures

    Hi,
This topic has come up before, but wasn't resolved. Maybe its somewhere else, but I can't find it.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4994383&#4994383
Raw files from my Olympus E-500 with exposures over 3.2s come up with overexposed looking previews in Aperture. I think there is some automatic noise reduction (dark frame) info in these files, since they are 16.68Mb instead of the normal 13.47Mb. Apparently Aperture doesn't know what to do with these larger files.
Is there a known way around this within Aperture? The files open fine within Olympus Master 2 and Raw Photo Processor.
I've pasted a screen shot here with some links to raw files:

Yea, I've had that issue also and figured out the DNG workaround. Filed a bugreport with Apple on Nov 2nd, 2006. It sat with what looked like no attention right up until I got an e-mail on Oct 26th, 2007 (notice the date) saying that the issue was fixed in 10.5. I had already preordered Leopard so was hoping this was right. It wasn't. It's still borked. Logged notes back into the issue saying it wasn't.
Perhaps if more E-500 users report this it'll get more attention.

  • Canon 60D Raw File Problems

I have a copy of CS4 installed on my computer. I've been looking around the forums and other websites for help and I've literally tried EVERYTHING. I would upgrade for CS6 (which seems to be the only solution at this point) but it's a costly endeavor. Maybe someone can guide me.
I'm not very knowledgable with Photoshop and in depth technology. I want to edit my photos in RAW, but I can't. I tried the DNG converter, and it did not recognize any files at all. I downloaded Camera Raw (the latest version as well as another one) and it said I needed Adobe Manager. I tried that as well but nothing.
I have no clue what I am doing and I have been downloading different things in search of a solution. I just need some guidance in where to start to fix this, if there is a way.
I'm using Windows Vista if that helps. Thanks!

Are you trying to open raw files or jpeg in ACR?

  • Raw File problem

I have a Canon 7D that I have had about 3 years. I just starting shooting RAW files. (***.CR2).
I have Raw Therapee 1.1 pre s  and Coral Photo Paint .. both programns current about 2 years ago..
When I try to open the RAW file in either programn I just get random garbage.. A bunch of pixalated boxes with the asspect ratio being of the photo being messed up.
SO is my software out of date or is the camera not doing something right.

I've never heard of RAW Therapee.
Canon Digital Photo Professional would have come with your camera and can handle the RAW images.  It can also convert them (it even has a "batch" converter where it can convert entire shoots for you.)  The converted image can be converted to TIFF or JPEG...but TIFF is non-lossy.
My software for RAW includes my typical Mac photo apps... Apple provides the RAW updates for those.  I also use Adobe Photoshop and of course Adobe provides the updates for those.  It's only necessary to have the update that provides the specific RAW support for your camera.  The "updates" really just add support for newer cameras as those models are released.  But I suppose it's possible that neither of your programs has a RAW file handler for a 7D.  There's no such thing as a "generic" Canon .CR2 file.  The format for each camera model is unique (e.g. the .CR2 generated by your 7D would not be the same as the .CR2 from another camera... such as a 6D, 5D III, 70D, 60D, etc. etc.)

  • Raw file problem with Snow Leopard

I had the chance yesterday to test Aperture on Snow Leopard (don't ask me how!).
It is working but my raw files are not rotated automatically!! &*%?&$&?!
    That is really really annoying!
An old bug that is coming back again!
Note that the bug is also visible in the Finder or iPhoto. It is not related to Aperture but the Mac OS Raw support.
My raw files are .arw from Sony Alpha-700.
But I saw the same bug with raw files from a Nikon D80...
B.t.w., Aperture is not running in 64bits.

Leopard allows 64 bit applications, and there are some 64 bit apps available (Lightroom 2, for one example). Tiger actually allowed 64 bit applications as well, but only for non-graphical applications (as the graphical frameworks and other associated application bits were not 64-bit ready).
Your statement is misleading. People that expect that existing applications will somehow become 64 bit just by running on Snow Leopard are misinformed. They must be explicitly built and compiled as 64 bit applications. Mac OS X allows them to be built as 32 or 64 bit, in the same way that it allows applications to be built for PowerPC, Intel, or Universal.

  • Fuji raw file problems

Lr 4.4 dng file looks much worse than jpeg out of my Fuji 770exr camera ... why would this happen?  Thanks

Screen-shots of what you’re seeing will help responses be less than wild guesses as to what you’re seeing.  Converting to DNG doesn’t change exposure and doesn’t add lines to an image so something else is going on.
Regarding the overexposed and washed out shots, Nikon cameras have an ADL (Auto Dynamic Lighting) setting and Canon cameras have an ALO (Auto Lighting Optimization) setting, which cause the camera to automatically fix bad exposures before it writes the JPG.  If your Fuji camera has such a setting, and you plan on shooting raw, then turn off this auto-fix setting, because it is just hiding poor technique or challenging lighting situations and will be confusing when you work with your raws in a non-Fuji raw converter like Lightroom.
Lightroom does have a Auto Toning button that you can press to get LR’s attempt at auto-fixing the exposure but it doesn’t work in many situations, especially the Auto Exposure settings.  I usually click LR's Auto to get the Black and the White sliders set and then undo the Exposure setting which is usually not right, having adjusted itself based on a small specular highlight or bit of overexposed sky that isn't part of the subject and darking the whole shot unnecessarily.
About horizontal lines, without seeing what you’re talking about, it could be a number of things:  high-ISO noise banding from the sensor, video-driver issues on your computer, bad-memory chips on your computer, corruption during transfer, hard-drive failure, where except the high-ISO niose, all might be a change to the raw data after it gets to your computer and have nothing to do with LR or your camera.
Are you shooting RAW+JPG and comparing the camera jpg and LR-DNG of the same shot?
Besides screen-shots, an actual DNG, or preferably the raw file before converting to DNG, along with the corresponding JPG if you're shooting RAW+JPG, would be helpful for others to look at, here, to see if the same issues are apparent on their computers or not.  This would help narrow down if it is a hardware issue on your side or something LR is doing.  You cannot attach a large file to a forum message, but you can upload one to www.dropbox.com or www.skydrive.com or similar large-file-hosting service, and post the public download link to it, here, in a message.
You also should be using the latest LR 4.4 with Fuji cameras that have the new X-Trans sensor.  Converting to DNG with prior versions of LR (< 4.4) or a previous version of the standalone DNG converter (<7.4) will have a sub-optimal demosaicking algorithm applied which kills detail, especially color detail, neither of which seem to be what you're describing but it would be useful to understand if you are using LR 4.4 or a previous version.

  • Sony A77 RAW file problems

I just converted to LR from Aperture, and when importing pics into LR, they have a lot of noise and and aren't as crisp as they should be.  I'm shooting with a Sony A77 in RAW format, so I don't understand the issue with the noise and clarity, but I've heard there might be a conflict between the Sony RAW files and LR's data converters.  Any help with this will be appreciated.

It’s all about what the Default settings are for Lightroom, which if you look is no luminance noise reduction and a linear contrast curve and neutral toning in the Basic area.  You can change the defaults to something else if you find a set of toning values that you always find yourself using.

  • RAW file problem with Nikon D7100

Ijust purchased a Nikon D7100, and I'm unable to upload and edit RAW files(NEF) in Lightroom 3.6. Nikon provided no help. Can anyone offer a solution?

Have you downloaded the Codec from Nikon. I use both Windows Vista and Windows 7. I downloaded the Codec of the Nikon D7100 yesterday and installed it and I don't have the latest Capture NX, I have the original I brought shortly after buying my D200. I can now use the D7100 files directly into my Capture NX software. ViewNX gives you the basics of Raw editing but Capture NX gives you the advantage of using the U point system. I found this out purely by accident. If you can download the Codec free of charge and pick up a cheap old Capture NX  you can get all your EXIF data as well as lense data without any issues.. The Camera companies pay Adobe a license fee for using the Adobe Gamma in their cameras so why should they pay more for file format. Adobe is very protective over its intellectual property so why not with Canon or Nikon. They comply with the consumer trade agreements on EXIF and image authentication. Nikon have cameras in Space which is more than Adobe ever dreamt of. So file format has little or nothing to do with compatibility.

  • Sony DSC-RX100 raw file problem

With the latest compatibility raw update to Aperture 3.4.5.  The raw pictures I have in the camera become fish eye alike after imported to Aperture.  I have another mac at home, I didn't update to the latest patch and the raw pictures function normal.  Some of the old raw pictures also become fish eye alike.  Anyone has the same problem with a fix?  Or this is a bug from the update patch?  Thanks.

  • PSE 10 RAW file problems from new camera

Does anyone know what version of Camera Raw is on the new PSE 12. To support my new Canon 70D I need version 8.2 according to my research. Anyone confirm this?
    Thanks
    Alan

Yes camera raw 8.2 is compatible with pse 12 after running Help>Updates to download and install it.
Pse 12 comes with camera raw version 8.0
Just be aware that if your using windows xp or windows vista, you won't be able to update the camera raw plugin in pse 12, at least not using the Help>Update function.
For future reference there is a photoshop elements forum
(you posted in the forum for the full photoshop cs6/cc)

  • Problem related to PS CS6 ext. on Mac.  Nikon DSLR D610 raw file can not be opened

Problem related to PS CS6 ext. on Mac. Installation is OK but I can't open picture from my Nikon D610 (Raw NEF format). I get a message "can not open this format ...". Checking Help menu to see if I miss an update the message I get is that I'm up-to-date but at the end Nikon D610 (format supported of course) files can not be opened . JPEG are OK but I work with raw files. Thanks

What OS are you running: 10.x.x?
What version of the Camera Raw plug-in do you have?  Do (About) Plug-ins / Camera Raw to find out.
You need at least ACR 8.3 to open D610 files.  If the Help / Updates process does not work, then there is a manual install process you can do.  The page with the download is for when people accidentally updated to ACR 8.4 and need to roll back to ACR 8.3 due to their OS being incompatible, but the installer on that page works even if you haven’t erroneously updated to ACR 8.4:
