RD scoring functionality in Captivate?

Hi!
RD had an MS Visual Basic function that automatically
returned arrays containing scoring information. Code went like
this:
<script LANGUAGE="VBScript">
<!--
Sub robodemo_FSCommand(ByVal command, ByVal args)
call robodemo_DoFSCommand(command, args)
end sub
-->
</script>
My script guys used this to extract the scoring information
they put into their custom code that tracked scoring across
multiple, linked RD projects. (E.g., Read module 1, take the quiz.
Read module 2, take the quiz. Read module 3, take the quiz. Now
click "here." User sees the scores from all modules in a cool
little grid.
And the scoring from all three gets emailed in a nice, neat
format.)
Does Captivate have an equivalent function? Somebody please
say yes.
(Don't mean to snivel, but it will go hard with me if I have
to tell my corporate masters that the shiny, new product can't do
what the older, somewhat-tarnished-with-age product did.)
As always, any and all help greatly appreciated!

  • How do I use Right Click Functionality in Captivate 5

    Hello there,
I am trialing Adobe Captivate 5, with a view to purchasing it, and I have been loving it, but have hit a snag.  My Right Click actions are not working except with the web preview.  I noted from the manual a lot of restrictions and from reading here I am not able to change AS3 to AS2.  Does this mean Captivate 5 does not let you use Right Click options.
I would greatly appreciate your help because I do love this software but if I can't create elearning with multiple Click Boxes and Right Click functionality, I may have to look elsewhere.
    Thanks again.
    Penny

    Rodward,
I downloaded and unzipped the file you linked. On my work laptop with XP, IE 8, and Captivate 4, it ran perfectly.
On my personal laptop with Windows 7, IE 8, and Captivate 5, it did not run. (I got the JavaScript line 81 error.)
On my personal laptop, I created my own right click project in Captivate 5, published with accessibility turned off, and it would not run (line 81).
I copied my Captivate 5 published files to my work laptop, and it would not run there either.
I don't have any third party toolbars installed on either machine. I'm running Symantec antivirus on my work laptop (where your project worked but mine didn't) and AVG on my personal laptop (where neither project worked.)
Is there something you did in your JS file? Or some little tweak you made in your Captivate project?

  • Functions in captivate

Does anyone know what the functions or calls tare o jump to a
page in a captivate file. Reason being is that i want to know what
they are if I embed a flash file on a page and i need to add a
button in that file to nav to the next page in the captivate file
or to jump to a page.

    hello ~
The command you are looking for is "rdcmndGotoFrame|" but
since it refers to a frame, you will have to do the calculation
(based on the fps your project is using - default is 30 fps) to
arrive at the beginning frame of the desired target slide. For
instance, frame121 would be a jump to the opening frame in slide
#5, if my arithmetic is correct.
I agree with what (Rick) the other community expert was
trying to say. In his own most polite and politically correct way
he was trying to point out that you are ignoring every "best
practice" and "intended use" built into the design of Captivate.
..... (I have no politically correct dna at all)
This is not uncommon among prior Flash developers, but it's a
shame that you are having to use workarounds to do much of what
Captivate was built to provide you in its own environment. But on
the other hand, it's your mouse, your PC, your hand on the keyboard
... so whatever punches your ticket. Have a nice day!
NOTE: For other variables specific to AS in Captivate
(formerly RoboDemo) open your Captivate HELP file, got to the
"Search" tab, type in the character string "variable", and click
"List Topics" (or press the ENTER key).
And once again, have a nice day!

  • Is crossword puzzle scoring possible in captivate??

How can I apply scoring in a crossword puzzle. Because I want to score every letter in a box with 1. The total score will depend on the number of correct letters/words in a puzzle. And how can I add it to the total score in the module if the crossword puzzle is one of the three quizzes in a module? Is it possible in captivate?? By the way, I'm using captivate 5.0.

I should need some reflection time, trying to find a way to reuse variables... It could help if I had an example to work on, should that be possible? You have certainly click boxes over all the letters? But normally you do not have 100 letters, or are you talking about something else than a regular crossword puzzle? Your description with diagonals possible seems to point to another kind or word puzzle. How did you realize 'The correct answers were also inside the boxes, which is vertical, horizontal and diagonal, upward and downward'?

  • Using the Quiz Review functionality in Captivate 5

I’d like to have a more robust question review in the Captivate 5 quiz I have.
In previous versions of Captivate I could create a quiz, then in the quiz settings click the “Allow user to review quiz” to allow for more robust question review information.
I would then, in each question, double-click (or get properties) for each individual question review area and craft a response. Generally pointing the student to the lesson and slides they need to review in order to get the correct answer for the question.
Can you do this in Captivate 5? All I can see/access is the global review area response which affects all question review areas equally.
    Thank you,
    TPK

    Hi Lilybiri,
Thank you for your response. Here is what I meant when I referred to "loop back"....
It might be better phrased by saying that in Captivate 3 I could use the "go to slide" behavior to "jump to" the same slide I am on. This basically reloads the slide. So, if  (in Captivate 3) I am on slide 6 (which is a multiple choice question) and I am in the Advanced answer menu and I select "jump to slide" I might see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 6
    slide 7
    slide 8
And, if I want to, I can select the slide I am on (in this example, slide 6). From the student point of view, when they select this wrong answer, then click to advance, slide 6 reloads.
In Captivate 5, when I select Advanced answer and use "jump to slide", this is what I see:
    slide 1
    slide 2
    slide 3
    slide 4
    slide 5
    slide 7
    slide 8
There is no option to "jump to" the slide that I am on (in this case, slide 6). (It looks like in Advanced Actions I might be able to pull this trick off, but I am uncertain as to how to use the controls and haven't the time to do a lot of tests.)
You are correct about the work flow. It is difficult for me to change my work flow habits. It seems to take me longer to set the slide items and their characteristics, but I do see the potential in Captivate 5 and overall I like the stability and functionality. Adapting to the (very) different workflow while producing content for a demanding department is a challenge. I'll get used to it over time.
Thank you for your response and the linked information.

  • Flash CS5 SWF File not functioning in Captivate 5

    Hi,
I have an Interactive SWF File created in Flash CS5 that has an Intro screen with a button to continue etc and it opens to a presentation with several buttons, and works fine.
I bring the SWF file into Captivate 5. It shows fine in the Slide, but when I test it or publish it, two things happen.
It stops after a second and disappears. I have set it to play for the duration of the animation, but it makes no difference.
If I extend the timeline out to several minutes then it will stay, but although the Start button works, nothing happens, it just sits there.
how do I get the Slide to stop and stay so that the user can take their time interacting with the animation. ( I dont how long someone will spend on the presentation)?
Why doesn't the interactivity actually work?
    Cheers

  • Calling a function in the HTML window the course sits inside - Captivate 8

    Hi,
I've scoured the forums for an answer to this but as yet have come up blank.
Our LMS launches a course in a popup window and inside of this the .htm Captivate output file sits.
Currently this pop up window has a button in it which executes a function.  The problem is this button is rather unsightly sitting above the course in the HTML window and I'd like to be able to call this function from inside the Captivate course itself.
The function is called closeSCOContent() and it closes the course window but crucially forwards the user to a feedback page.
So essentially is it possible to call this function using the Javascript function in Captivate 8?
I hope I've explained that sufficiently
    Many thanks!

    Hi,
This gave me the nudge in the right direction I needed, after a bit of basic frameset research I've got the desired functionality.
    Huge thanks!

  • The drag and drop functionality is grayed out in Captivate 8. How do I turn this on?

I'm trying to play with drag and drop functionality in Captivate 8, but it's grayed out. All the tutorials I've watched show it working, but in my project, I can't access it. Any ideas?

I asked about this in another thread, to add a list of what is NOT supported in responsive projects to the documentation:
objects detected by the HTML5 tracker
    Drag&Drop as you discovered
    line shape
    free polygon shape
This is my list. Answer in another thread from the staff was: what is dimmed, grayed out is not available. Not a pleasant way to discover limitations, although I understand not everything could be implemented in this very first version of Captivate responsive design functionality.

  • Problems using right-mouse click functionality in a Captivate added to Articulate?

Has anyone experienced any problems using the right-mouse click functionality? It's working fine when I preview the project, or view the published Captivate SWF or HTML file, but it's not working when I insert the published Flash file into Articulate and then try it in the published Articulate. I'm using AS2 and Flash Player v10. When I try to right-click it's bringing up the Flash Settings menu you can click on. I've been into my Flash Manager and told it to always allow content from the folder my Articulate is in but that hasn't made any difference. I'm viewing the Articulate on my C drive and I have read that that can cause problems - does anyone have any ideas? If I left-click it recognises it as a click but doesn't recognise it as the correct click action, so just keeps on bringing up my failure caption and won't allow me to progress.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
The right-click functionality in Captivate is 'in' the JS-file, that is called by the HTML-file that will open the SWF. But if you insert the SWF-file in Presenter (Articulate or Adobe) the right-click functionality will not be there, because you are not using the JS-file. BTW: this was also explained in the thread where you posted this same question before. Please, do not post the same question in 2 different threads

  • Playing captivate 8 in iFrame

    All -
I am working on something using a captivate 8 module and while it does have review questions in it, there will be no scoring functionality. The system we're using it on will require us to either open a new window to play it in or to send it through an iFrame.
I have the Module assets being severed from an https:// server, but for some reason, the iframe shows up but just shows the loading spiny thing and never loads.
Is there something unique to html 5 captivate that I need to account for in the iFrame?
Just curious as to why that wouldn't load.
    Thanks in advance!!
    jon

    Hello Cozmicone,
For all browsers, desktop and mobile, for the latest Captivate 8 (subscription), I see a spinning loading icon whenever I attempt to place Captivate HTML5 output in an iframe.
Any advice or things to try would be appreciated!

  • What additional software requirements are needed when using Captivate with RoboHelp?

    Hello,
I use RoboHelp HTML 6 & 8 for developing online manuals for our government business.  We are currently exploring eLearning options for our training needs, and I am considering the idea of implementing Captivate features (PP slides, simulations, animations) directly into the manuals. We would not need the collaborative/review aspects of Captivate, so I believe we wouldn't need to purchase Adobe Air additionally. However, would anyone be willing to give me the lowdown on what additional software either I would need as a developer, or end-users would need (Adobe Flash, I assume) if we decided on Captivate? Would we need addtional software (Connect Pro/ LMS) to publish the Captivate content?
I have conducted an extensive online search and explored the forum threads with some success, but there is a lot of convoluted information out there!
Thanks in advance for your help!!

    Hi there
Speaking as one who regularly combines Captivate and RoboHelp...
Unless you really want some functionality that Captivate alone simply does not provide, you really shouldn't need any additional software whatsoever. You record the eLearning bits in Captivate, then you use that content in your RoboHelp projects.
Are you seeking to host things in a Learning Management System (LMS)? If so, you probably should abandon the thought of RoboHelp, as it serves a bit of the functionality the LMS would provide.
Note that AIR is a functionality similar to the Flash Player or the PDF Reader. It is free for the taking by the end user. There is nothing one would need to purchase. Now if you want to *AUTHOR* something in AIR, that's a different story. RoboHelp HTML version 8 will produce an AIRHelp output. But it sounds to me that you may be somewhat unfamiliar with what AIR gives you. So here's the skinny.
If you were to produce AIRHelp output from RoboHelp, you end up with a .AIR file that each of your end users must *INSTALL* just as they would have to install an application. That's just to view the help. Prior to installing your AIR output, they would also need to first *INSTALL* the AIR viewer. So if they had no AIR capability whatsoever, they would need to perform two different installs. One of the AIR runtime, and a second of your AIR output. Additionally, creating the AIR output will also require a digital certificate. Now RoboHelp will allow you to create one, but it's an untrusted certificate and the end user will be forced to acknowledge whether they wish to continue installing with an untrusted certificate.
Anyhoo, hopefully that helps you with at least some of what you were looking for.
    Cheers... Rick

    Hi,
I am trying to use the Widget in Flash function in Captivate 7, but I keep getting an invalid argument error when the .jsfl script tries to run in Flash Pro CC.  The line in question is line 8 - fl.getDocumentDOM().exportPublishProfile('file:///profile.xml');.  Can anyone suggest a solution or work around?

  • Problems with TTS user dictionary with Captivate 8

Hi There, We have installed Captivate 8 on 2 machines at work.  We need to use Neo Speech and will be looking to add and modify pronunciations.  We are having some issues with TTS.  Firstly on my machine I can modify words and save the dictionary but hear messages to say that this is the trial version of Neo Speech.  Is there something else I need to install to avoid this?
My colleague cannot use the dictionary on her machine at all as when she tries to open the user dictionary it comes up with a message to say "TTS failed to load" although she has all the voices installed in the same way as mine. Does anyone else have this problem?  Have any patches been released that our IT department need to install?  Any help is gratefully received as we have a number of big projets with very short deadlines and these issues are really holding us up.  Many thanks

    Hi Janet,
Here is the workflow to change the pronunciation of a word for Bridget voice. you can follow same flow for others too.
    1) open file. "C:\Program Files\Adobe Captivate Voices 8\VT\Bridget\M16\bin\UserDicBre.exe" in your case(win 32)
    2) This will open following window.
    3) Click on file open and select the default file. this will populate word information table on this window. above screen shot i have already selected the file.
    4) if the word for which you want to change the pronunciation is already in the list then just select the word and click on Modify word and then just modify the pronunciation.
    5) In case if you want to add your own word then use add word.
    6) In case you want to override some spell pronunciation just add that word as new word with relevant pronunciation.
    7) Once all the change is done, just click on File Save button and then click on close, if in case again it ask for save then again save it.
That's it.. you have successfully added/changed pronunciation for a word.
To test it just use TTS functionality of Captivate and generate an audio, or even you can spot test using read word functionality.
Hope above steps are helpful and for your colleague's system I am not sure what steps your IT team is opting to install that. In case if possible can you get exact steps. I prefer try in some fresh machine. Let me know whether the above steps are helpful.

  • Captivate 7 - The Exit Bug and a Solution

    Hey Everyone,
I wanted to take a second and share some good information I found in regards to SCORM and the Exit functionality in Captivate 7. Below is the blog post that shows how to make the Adobe Exit functionality "SCORM Compliant" and solved my issues when uploading my project and getting them to exit. Hope this helps
Captivate 7, Exit Bug and a Solution
Several of our Inquisiq R3 users have alerted us to the fact that courses developed with Captivate 7 published to HTML5 and SWF do not close properly when using the “Exit” button, forcing the user instead to manually close the browser window by clicking the “X” in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
Through our investigation into this issue, it appears that the process that Adobe has implemented when clicking the “Exit” button is to simply attempt to close the content window and rely on the LMS to capture and commit the session data. Nowhere did we see that the content was actually calling the “LMSFinish()” [SCORM 1.2] or “Terminate()” [SCORM 2004] methods in the LMS’s SCORM API to commit the lesson data to the LMS as required by the SCORM specification.
Adobe uses their own defined function, “DoCPExit,” to close a lesson window.  This method contains a “window.close()” call and additional logic to “bubble up” the command through the frame parents (if they exist and also contain the “DoCPExit” method - presumably because they would also be Adobe-published content files within your package).
There are several flaws to this approach.
By not calling “LMSFinish()” or “Terminate(),” the content is, by definition, not SCORM conformant.  Part of the minimum requirements for conformance are that the content calls the initialization method “LMSInitialize()” in SCORM 1.2 or “Initialize()” in SCORM 2004 and the  termination method “LMSFinish()” in SCORM 1.2 or “Terminate()” in SCORM 2004. The LMS is not required to clean up the data left behind when the content fails to make this call. So if your LMS doesn’t take this additional step (of setting ‘LMSFinish’ or ‘Terminate’ if the lesson does not), your data will be completely lost…i.e. no record of you taking the lesson will be recorded.
The call to close the browser window will fail if the LMS is running the content within a frame or iframe. Since the SCORM specification allows content to be launched in frames or iframes (in addition to new browser windows), lessons need to be able to accommodate this scenario. Even with the “bubble up” logic, once the call reaches the top most content window, and the next parent window in line is the LMS container page, the call will no longer be passed and a “window.close()” call will be fired within the framed page.  When this call is made, nothing will happen as a framed page cannot close the browser window using this command. Through our investigation, we’ve learned that at least 4 other well-known LMSs have experienced this particular issue.
Ironically, the solution that we’ve discovered is not only SCORM conformant, but also very simple and follows what we would consider to be SCORM “best practices”.  The foundation and logic for the solution is already contained within the published Captivate files (and it is the same solution whether you publish to SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004).
We simply modify the “DoCPExit” method that is contained within the “Utilities.js” file to call the “Finish()” method.  Just replace all the code appearing between the “{“and the “}” as you see here:
    function DoCPExit(){     Finish();
The “Finish()” method that we have inserted is, as mentioned, already contained within the published Captivate files and contains the logic to properly set the exit parameters and correctly identify whether the content is SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004; it will therefore make a call to the correct close method (“LMSFinish()” or “Terminate()”) accordingly.  Once the LMS has received this command, it should take care of removing the content properly, leaving no need for any “bubble-up” logic or window close calls within the content code.
Overall, if the lessons you develop with Captivate 7 work as expected and required in your LMS, there is no need to implement this change. However, if your lesson’s Exit button is not working as it should, and/or you are losing progress and status data when closing the lesson, the fix described here should resolve all those issues.
The biggest issue here is that since we’re changing published code, the next time you update and publish that same Captivate project, you have to remember to change that published function code AGAIN, as Captivate will simply publish the default code.
We have been in touch with the Captivate team to discuss this problem and they are investigating. We would hope a patch to address this flaw would be released in the near future
All credit of this fix goes to http://blog.icslearninggroup.com/2013/10/captivate-7-exit-bug-and-solution.html

Try clearing out your project cache (Preferences > General > Clear Cache) then republish using the option to Force Republish All Slides.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, you may be seeing the early stages of project file corruption.  Check the suggestions in this post about troubleshooting issues where you may need to copy all slides to a new blank project shell to try and strip out corruption:

  • Controlling Embedded Captivate SWFs

    Hi:
    I have a SWF (SWF A) that I'm loading into a movieclip
(Movieclip C)which is part of another SWF (SWF B). Basically, SWF B
functions as a player, with play and pause controls. These controls
control Movieclip C where the external SWF A is loaded into.
Normally, I have had no problem with this and it always
works. At run time, when you click the pause button on SWF B, a
stop() command is issued to Movieclip C, which stops the play of
the external movieclip (SWF A) loaded into it.
However, I did a screen capture with Captivate and published
it as a SWF. I loaded this SWF (SWF A) into Movieclip C in SWF B at
run time. However, clicking the controls on SWF I created has NO
EFFECT on the SWF I created in Captivate. It just keeps playing.
I guess all SWFs are NOT created equal. How can I make this
    work?
By the way, I do not want to use the embedded controls that
    come with Captivate.

    you're expecting.

A SWF is a SWF is a SWF. They are all created equal, from a
    certain
point of view. Flash Paper SWFs are just SWFs, at bottom,
    even though they
have additional functionality. Captivate SWFs are also just
    SWFs -- which
means they must adhere to the MovieClip class, all of whose
    methods,
properties, and events are listed in the "MovieClip class"
    entry of the
    ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference.
It may be that Captivate nests its SWFs, so that you need to
    adjust your
target when telling a given movie clip container what to do.
    Would you show
    the exact ActionScript you're using?
