Re-allocating filesystem space

I've seen similiar questions, but still not sure...my (shortened) df -k shows:
Filesystem kbytes capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 1109599 92% /
/proc 0 0% /proc
fd 0 0% /dev/fd
mnttab 0 0% /etc/mnttab
swap 495648 0% /var/run
swap 497416 1% /tmp
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s5 8927269 3% /opt
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s7 7059201 1% /export/home
I want an area /XXX for development and source, I would assume with space taken from /opt or /export/home. Is there an easy way (besides using a symbolic link connecting /XXX to /export/home/XXX) to re-allocate the space? I have no experience with partitioning/mounting...thanks for any help

i met the same problem as you. do you solve it?
now i mount two swap space, but not disk space for them, i don' t konw why?

  • A workaround to get open documents in different Spaces to the allocated PS space

A small workaround for Spaces CS5 Mac.
If you have CS5 documents spread over different Spaces due to clicking them in the finder and want to get them all back in to the allocated PS Space, here's a workaround.
You do need one doc open in the correct space I'm afraid for it to work. Create a new doc in there if you have to. I tend to leave one small doc open in the right Space all the time now.
Go to the allocated PS space. Select the menu option "Consolidate all to tabs" from the  Window>Arrange menu.
This will bring all the open docs from their spaces to the correct space as tabs.
That might be enough for you but you can't drag adjustments layers and layers with alphas etc to another doc in Tab view, something I do all the time when I'm retouching 20-30 shots and I'm trying to match them.
Hard to do that with tab view obviously.
Next select "Float all in windows" and you'll have your docs viewable, side by side in the right space.
If you assign a key command to those options, it becomes a quick tap 1-2 and you're done.
As far as I can tell, if you want floating windows, and all your docs in the right place, and don't want to open your images from the PS open dialogue (who does when you have 6 windows of 50 images on your dual 30" monitor setup?) then this will do it.
It's not great for all things but it's better than "It's all Apple's fault"

there is certainly no built in way to do it. In fact Dock Spaces is the only program I've ever heard of that allows you to have different docks in different spaces. if it can't do it, it's impossible.

  • Losing filesystem space due to file open descriptors (lsof  /opt/oracle )

    Hi,
Our oracle mounted filesystem for /opt/oracle is constantly losing filesystem space due to file open descriptors (command to give the details -->lsof /opt/oracle).
When we issue this command single excutable apperas more time with diffrent process id and consumes space,
Is it realted to bug 3208807 ? or if any other please help me
Oracle Version : 9.2.0.4 with Data Guard
    Regards
    Manoj

losing filesystem space due to file open descriptorsI think this has nothing to do with open descriptors.
    Check following:
    1. generation of trace files in bdump, cdump and udump directory (compress, move or remove *.trc files and cdmp_nnnnnn directories)
    2. generation of network trace files is enabled (sqlnet.ora)
    3. if your database files are located somewhere under /opt/oracle directory then check for autoextend datafiles
Check content of alert log and content of latest tracle files (in bdump) and if you are facing to bug 3208807 then trace files must contain error message as mentioned in 3208807.8 Note.

  • Adding filesystem space

How can I add filesystem space to a filesystem that has reched 100%? It is the /usr filesystem and it is on a x86 machine running solaris 10. Will this also be the same way adding filesystem space on a Sparc machine?

Since /usr is just a loop back file system in a zone, I doubt you're really asking about zones here...
That said, check out this -- it might help:

    Hi,
Is there any way, we can find Space Allocated and Space used for Table wise.
I know USER_TABLESPACES help use to find table space wise. But I would like to know, the space utilized by each table in the specific table space.

Check this link from Tom Kyte about it.

  • Allocating Disk Space freeze

So I upgraded to Leopard and since that time I am not able to capture footage in FCE 3.0 - as soon as I hit 'capture now' the capture window pops up and states that it is 'allocating disk space' and then I get the pinwheel of death. I've never had this issue before. Any ideas?

Okay this morning I switched it back to 'NTSC Firewire basic' and it communicated with the camera - I clicked capture now and it seems to be working fine again. I am capturing to the ext. drive that uses firewire and not USB. I don't understand why, I've never had issues capturing to the USB connected ext. drive before?
So far as I know it's 12 bit audio and 4:3 aspect ratio. The PD170 doesn't shoot a true 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • Allocating disk space

I need to capture a lot of raw footage, so I decided to use my old G4 which sits mostly unused. I want to capture the footage to an external drive so I can simply hook it up to my G5 after everything's been captured.
Since the G4 only has one Firewire input, I plugged my external 200 GB LaCie drive (from which all files have been deleted) into the Firewire port and then daisy chained my mini-dv camera into the external drive. I set the external drive as the capture disk under the preferences.
FCP seems to be seeing the camera correctly because the transport controls operate the camera correctly. However, when I hit the "Capture Now" button the screen says "Allocating disk space" and I get the spinning beach ball.
If I use exactly the same setup, but set the G4's internal drive as the capture disk, everything works fine.
Any thoughts about how I can get FCP to capture to my external drive?
    Thanks
    G5 dual 2.5   Mac OS X (10.3.5)

Okay, now I understand the difference. I don't have the inclination to buy a PCI card or a different camera, so option 3 is the route I'll go.
Regarding capturing individual clips. I misspoke when I said this was "raw" foottage. This is all "good" footage I want to have available for my project (narrowed down from about 50 hours to 8 hours). At this point I find it's much easier (and less wear and tear on the much maligned Canon) to just capture everything at once and use the "DV start/stop detect" and "Make subclip" to break everything into individual clips.
Thanks to both of you for helping me sort this out. Now I'll leave to the two of you to spar over who's the most intelligent (I'm definitely out of this contest).

  • Allocating Disk Space using capture now.

FCE seems to freeze up with a messege that says "Allocating Disk Space" when using capture now.

If you have an anti-virus app running disable it.
Check FCE>System Settings>Scratch Discs. Make sure the Limit Capture Now has a value entered and the box is ticked. Default is 30 mins, it can be changed to suit the capture.
If you find a huge file with nothing in it this a probably a result of not having a value set. Delete it and start over.
When no value is set, FCE does not know how much drive space to allocate, so it grabs everything it can get it's hands on. That's why you can get that huge useless file.

  • Allocating Disc Space problems

I recently upgraded to Leopard from Tiger on my iMac G5 (PC processor) and haven't had any issues. However when I go to capture footage in FCE the program freezes up - it says that it is 'allocating disc space' and then the pinwheel of death shows up. I'm using external HD's and wonder if that might be an issue with the upgrade. . .

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using

    Hi Nik,
    Thanks for the reply.
To my knowledge, yes we have the space as it was my understanding that our 6 disks (6 x 36gb) in our array were used to house 2 mirrored copies of /u01 and 2 more for /u02 which seems to be confirmed by my metastat -p output (d70 & d80)........

  • Filesystem space filling up

Hello, I am running a batch job of database select queries and I see the filesystem is filling up quickly although this script is not generating any files in the diretcory it is running. What else could be filling up? I am not able to trace.

It depends on the database you are running and how it is installed (I'm guessing on FS)
But usually, all queries that need temporary space (like sort, agregate, group by, etc...) will use temporary space in the db which is reflecting on the FS.

  • Filesystem space with autoextend on

    Hi,
Is there a view of used space when all datafiles with autoextend on reach maximum size?
Like in RZ20, the MTE <instance> - OperatingSystem - Filesystems, but with datafiles full.
For example the monitor Oracle - <SID> - Space management - Tablespaces - <TS> - Used space, shows that "virtual" used space. Or like DB02 that shows both "Used" and "Total used".
To add new datafiles this information is very welcome, because you don't know which filesystem will have more free space...
    Thanks!
    Aitor

    Hi Aitor,
I am not sure I understand your question exactly but if you go to transaction DBACOCKPIT -> space -> overview
does this show you the information about how much space is used that you are looking for?
It should show percentage used for each tablespace and you can see a breakdown of each datafile.
    Hope this helps,
    Paul

  • How to change Filesystem Space Available (%) to MB?

Hi, I would like to monitor disk space of my hosts. But I want to use megabyte (MB) instead of percentage (%). Is there any configuration file where to change this metric?

    Hi Amit,
Yes, I agree that we can create a new variant and can assign it after activating it. But, what I want is that I have created a new variant and check space in FF68 is 3 digits and how can I make changes in OT45's new variant so that cheque space gets changed to 10digit or more.

  • Allocation of space for 3-Way Mirror

A picture paints a thousand words, so I painted. Far easier than tying myself up in knots of words.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
    A1: 450GB is correct.
A2: The 2 disks requirement is not static. See the explanation in following article, that why it needs 5 disks for a 3-way mirror:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tip_of_the_day/archive/2013/08/29/tip-of-the-day-3-way-mirrors.aspx
The reason is that a 3-way mirror uses a quorum.  In order to keep running, the mirror space must keep over 50% of the disks functioning.  So a 3-way mirror must have at least 5 physical disks to be able to survive the loss of up to 2 physical
    disks.
Below is my personal view: With 9 disks act as 3-way mirror, we could lost 6 disks in maximum. As it must keep over 50% of disks in running, we need more than 4.5 disks which is 5, so we need 2 more disks.
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and un-mark them if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]
    Thanks for this, Shaon Shan.
When it comes to a 3-way mirror, is a better way of calculating the total amount of enclosure storage for the desired amount of usable storage, to multiply your desired usable storage by a factor of 5?
So, if using 500GB drives, to have 1TB of usable storage from a 3-way mirrored virtual disk, I would need to have 5TB of total storage, so a complete total of 10 drives?
