You can watch this video from 04:30. I guess you didn't unscrew the one under the warranty sticker. Good luck!!

  • Do any Macbook Pro 17" have NO heat issues?

I am on the fence as to whether or not to buy or wait until new models come out to see if Apple actually fixes this issue. I use "notebook" computers on my LAP all the time. I've searched and seen that some seem hot... some not so much. *Can someone tell me if the issue has finally been solved and if so what manufacture date to look for?* Also, does solved mean comfortable?
Looking at MacBook Pro 17" 2.93 with 7200 upgrade.
    Thanks for any help!
    Thanks for

The user manual, I believe, still states that the computers should not be used on one's lap because of possible heat injury.
All Intel based laptops run hot unless they weight about 7 pounds and can have large fans and heat sinks. But if you want a lighter and thinner computer then they will be hot because there's only so much space inside for fans and heat dissipation systems to function.
This is not a "problem" that can be solved. This is simply an engineering limitation.
You can visit a local Apple vendor to see if you can test one of the new laptop models to determine for yourself if they are too hot for your comfort. But I doubt you will find anything different from other manufacturers such as Dell with respect to their light weight laptops.
I use four different Intel laptops including a unibody MBP. I do not use them on my lap, but they all run comfortably to the touch unless the CPU and GPU are under heavy application usage. Then they can get pretty hot.

  • Do latest macbook pro's still have the heat issue? (7/10/06)

wondering if the latest revisions of macbook pro still have the heat issue.. i heard the issue of the fan going off/on causing that 'whine' is gone and now the last thing holding me back from making the 'switch' is this heat dealy.

My week 12 MBP has never had heat issues. It's fast, stable and comfortable to use.
The case bottom of my 5+ year old TiBook gets hotter than the MBP. I've used a tilt stand for PowerBooks for years, both to reduce heat and because I prefer the typing angle.
People are not getting burned. Really. If I were to charge a battery at the same time I'm running processes that load up both CPUs, the metal strip behind the function keys would get quite warm. It might be uncomfortable to touch (but doesn't have to be touched to use the computer). But it will not result in a physical burn, unless one loves discomfort enough to keep touching it for a protracted period. Even then, not a serious burn. A cup of coffee or tea is far more dangerous than a MacBook Pro.
I've encountered several hot-running MBPs owned by people that I know in my local area. In each case, the problem was caused by software that was loading up the processors at full blast. One case was a runaway process that was initiated by software that was incompatible with the Intel processors. Another was caused by a stalled startup item -- again, software incompatible with the Intel CPU. In both cases, Migration Assistant had been used and the applications had not been updated for Intel compatibility.
And still another case was a large collection of Widgets, some of which are badly written and load up the processors. Deactivating all but 3 or 4 Widgets made that computer run cool and quickly.
Complaints about heat on this forum dropped dramatically after the last firmware update.
If you want the most powerful notebook computer Apple has ever designed, get a MacBook Pro. I'm delighted with mine. No fix necessary, thank you.

  • Is it possible to easily run Microsoft office 2010 with access on a MacBook pro or have I wasted my money ?

Okay , first off thanks for any help in advance . I just purchased a MacBook pro for my daughter for college . ( finance major ) . Her class requires Microsoft office 2010 with access .  As you probably already know , and I have just learned , that is no offered for Mac. Is there an easy way To run ms office with access on a MacBook pro or have I wasted my money ?

All that matters is file compatibility. The documents look the same. I've been a professor, so I don't see any issues here at all.
Another option you may want to consider is this: Run Windows on the Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Why do Encore CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 have intermittant Sync issues?

I am noticing that Encore CS5 is "buggy" regarding sync issues with material edited by Womble and Corel Video Studio and I am guessing other programs as well?
In high definition I take AVCHD and  edit in Corel Video Studio.  If I leave the project as one single 42 minute segment and import this asset into Encore CS5, more often than not there are bad sync issues.  To get around this I have to divide the 42 minute project into approximately 6 smaller ones- Each smaller asset ends where I had done the editing.  Encore does not have any problems now with these 6 smaller assets.
In standard definition I edit in Womble and export as a MPEG2 Program.  Sometimes Encore has a problem with the asset sync and sometimes it does not.  (I am guessing about 20% of my assets end up with a problem).  The same asset if brought into TMP or brought back into Womble does not have any sync issue.  If brought into Premiere Pro CS5 it will exhibit the same behavior as Encore- If Encore has a sync problem, so will Premiere Pro.  So to get around this I then have to go back to the original womble file and break it up into smaller pieces, at every edit point I cut and export the smaller file just after the end of the transition I applied.  With a 6 hour project I may end up with dozens of small files to get around this problem- not very efficient.
Any ideas how to fix this or why Encore is so buggy?  Would moving the original assets around in Womble- example taking something that was at the end of the timeline and then moving it to the beginning cause these issues for Encore?   Or is there some other cause?
    Encore CS5
    Premiere Pro CS5
    Windows 7 64 BIT
    Quad core
    2.4 GHZ clock speed
    6GB memory
150 GB free space on drive
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 card

I've used VideoReDo in the past, which I believe has some similar strategies to Womble.  I found when I tested streams, that there were often problems in the source streams, and that the fix was not 100 percent.
You may also find such files that are not 100 percent the same length video to audio.
In any event, the possibility other than Encore being buggy is that the files you are bringing in have problems when Encore tries to validate them.  I'm not saying Encore doesn't have its problems, but clean mpeg files do not have sync issues ordinarily.
For some scenarios, I like your workflow (edit mpeg files in a frame accurate mpeg editor that is not retranscoding the whole file), but the results are often not consistent.
You don't say, and I would certainly look at, the nature of the audio stream you are using.  I can not tell you what the problems are, but some streams just do not edit well, even though they may play back okay in some players, but still have issues in Encore and/or Premiere.

  • NoO!!! not my beloved macbook pro.. battery/hot heat issues..

    I have a macbook PRO 17" serial w8622....
I have read about the heat/noise/battery issues wi macbooks.. but I didn't see any complains on the 17" version so i assumed we were lucky or we didn't have those issues....
I got my mine middle of July of 06'...and it worked like a charm i mean it did get "warm" but hey its a "supercomputer" right? so i didn't give it much thought PLUS i anytime it got "hot" i would sit or sit IT in front of a fan and boom after like 5 min's back to cooLneSS!!! till now!!!!
ALL of a sudden I started noticing that it got SUPERHOT in the center of the macbook like RIGHT where it says MacBook Pro on the screen....that AREA was getting crazy hot and EVEN putting it in front of a fan for an hour really didn't do much.. which was shockin to me as it always had cooled it down previously... I have been on vacation so need to travel much and so lately its been plugged in a lot..not 24/7 but alot...saturday i took it wit me for a drive and thats when my nightmare begins...
It was workin fine..jus like normal then it got down to like 73% of battery life left...NEXT thing i know is its at 20% like in 5 min's!!! then puzzlin over this quadary witt in 5min's it shuts down and won't turn back on... now i'm confused as all get out.. get it home and start chargin it back up thinkin its a fluke... get it at 100% start using it as normal then again somewhere around the 70-75% range of battery life it shuts down again.. at this point i start to panic...
I figure maybe a battery calibration will do the trick...so i go thru the procedure leave it alone for a whole day and then charge it fully before I use it.. and then it seems that did the trick...as i now watch it go (pretty quickly i must say) down from 70% thru aprox 20% which before it was jus makin the jump...everything seems fine now TILLL outta nowhere it jus shuts off.. BEFORE i could get it down to 3%, 2%, 1% before a shutdown and even then i would get some kind of warnin...but now PI YOW!!! outta nowwhere at random it'll shutdown anywhere from 10% to 33%........
I have spent now 2 days researchin this and readin the forums on here about this... and still i have not found to much usefull info on the 17" macBook Pro...
I have even tried lookin at my Full Charge Capacity and it always reads anywhere from 2234(mah) to 4987mah again for Full Charge capacity, for the macbook 15"'s i have been readin that normal is 5000mah and that there is a battery recall for that model..
D*MMIT the strangest thing jus happened as i type this....even now as i was debating whether to post about this..my battery got down to 40% and then outta nowwhere it jus shut off... now i'm gettin a bit peeved but I run quickly and plug in the charger and then i'm able to turn it back on w/o losing my stuff( i have learned if i do this VERY quickly i can sometimes bring everything back up before shutdown) so I plug in the charger and bananas if it doesn't start chargin it up at 0%!!!! when i know i had it at 40%..... and THEN the kicker as i'm typin up this very post i see it go from 4% BACK TO 40%!!!! jus like that.. there is no doubt NOW in my head there is some kind of problem....
under battery info as of right now it states:
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh) 3369
    Reaminin Capacity (mAh) 223
after a few min's and wit battery level now at 61% i checked the settings again:
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh) 4704
    Reaminin Capacity (mAh) 2864
what in sam hill's name is going on here?
PLEASE PLEASE tell me what i can do to get this working correctly....
    what are my options?
What can and should i do?
i'm VERY new to the world of mac/apple and i can say i like it alot but i'm not seein how the macheads go above and beyond to toast the virtues of apple v/s microsoft and the windows world it seems like any any product apples has its same share of issues right?
thank you all!!! i appreciate any help and feedback!!!
    oNe
p.s. after the battery calibration AGAIN like before if i sit in front of a fan the macbooK gets cooler now and the middle no longer gets hot like before which is what i personally think messed up my ish!!!

aight the PMU reset seems to have did the trick i mean now it works NORMAL as in it gets down to 3% and i'll get a warning of low reserver battery.. i.e. no random shut downs at odd percentages like before 40%, 20%..ect.. now i'm showin anywhere from 5104 to 6174 for mah for the battery... whats up wit that?
oh and tho my battery/random shutdowns seems solved now i have to now deal wit CRAZY INSANE heat from the macbook.. i mean before it got "warm" i brushed it off as its a super computer.. but now after the PMU reset it gets f*$ck'N insanely crazy hot.. it seems to center around where its labeled macbook right above the # keys.. and the underside gets so HOT NOW that its "almost" painful to the touch.. most definatly I can't rest it on my lap if i'm in shorts or boxers....
any ideas wit that? i don't want it to die on me.. that much heat can't be good? please, please... this is my first apple and i jus don't want to be dis illusioned by this whole experience..
thanks again for all the info!

  • MacBook Pro - Battery and Trackpad Heat Issue

    Hi,
I purchased my MBPro 15-inch in December of 08 (so unibody type). For the last few months, after a couple of hours, the trackpad becomes unusable. You can't "click" and navigating around the screen clicks and unclicks and is general extremely sensitive.
When I remove the battery, it works fine (but you have to keep the power supply connected or it dies instantly). As of this week, when I replace the battery, it goes straight back to the problem. Previously, I would get 15-30 minutes of "normal" usage and then the problem would reassert itself.
Should I just get a new battery? Is this the kind of issue that Apple had previously on non-unibody MBPros and required a mass recall and replace of batteries?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is likely the same issue which resulted in a recall of swollen batteries (Battery Update). Have you carefully checked your battery for any signs of swelling or leaking? If you do have a swollen battery, stop using it immediately and get a replacement. You don't want to risk permanent damage to your Mac.
The battery doesn't even have to be in use. Some time ago, someone posted a picture of a spare battery that had never been in a machine, but which had still swelled up and come apart.
There seems to be some question as to whether this is to be expected of all these batteries, or if it is an indication of a factory defect. For this reason, people have had mixed results trying to get the battery replaced for free from Apple. Generally, if you've been able to get 300 cycles out of your battery, your battery is just considered worn out and your chances of a free replacement are remote. If this happens on a newer battery with fewer cycles, I believe decisions are made on a case by case basis.
I actually hope that swelling is a characteristic of a defective battery and not something expected to happen to all of them. Especially since the new Unibody Macs now have a built-in battery that is not supposed to be user replaceable.
    Good luck!

  • Been with Verizon for a week and already have major billing issues.

I signed up for a new share everything plan 7 days ago.  Prior to switching to Verizon from Sprint, I stopped by a Verizon store and spoke with an employee about the employee discount we would be applying.  The employee told me that we would be given a discount off of both the monthly access fee as well as the $40 smartphone fee for the "primary" line.
I received a letter today confirming that the employee discount had been applied and I am not getting a discount on the $40 dollar smartphone fee.  I called CS earlier and was basically told tough luck.  Sorry you were given misinformation that affected your decision to switch carriers, but there is nothing we can do to help you out.
Additionally, because we apparently signed up for Verizon service on the last day of the billing cycle, and didn't sign up for the employee discount until our 3rd day of service, the employee discount is not being applied to our first bill.  I was told that if we would've signed up for the discount on the first day of service that it would have shown on our first bill.  How was I supposed to know that the day we signed up for service was the final day of the billing cycle??
I've been a customer for 7 days and am wondering what I've gotten myself into.  Is this really what I have to look forward to for the next 2 years?  I've been lied to, which will result in my spending of hundreds of additional dollars over the next 2 years, and have been offered no help to resolve the issue.  I am strongly considering leaving while I'm still able to.  Sprint made a VERY strong offer to retain my business and I am seriously considering taking them up on their offer.  They obviously value my business more than Verizon.

    >Comment removed<
12/16 was the  first day I had service and the last day of my billing cycle.  It can happen and did.  Would've been nice to know so we could get our employee discount setup before the first bill was generated (2 days later).
By not having my my 22% discount applied the $40 smartphone fee, it will literally cost me "hundreds of dollars", over the next 2 years.  Let me break it down for you:
    $40 x 22% = $8.80
    $8.80 x 24 months = $211.20
(This of course doesn't include the additional taxes ill be paying as well, >Refrain from comments that attack other members<
I'm not trying to get anything different from everyone else.  For some silly reason though, I just believe that store employees should give accurate information to potential customers, especially when it influences the customer's decision to switch service providers.  The only reason they can continue to mislead customers is because there are no repercussions and because people like you seem to justify their actions.

  • OSX.8.4 MacBook Pro Run away Fans Baterry issues

Recently Energy Saver Preferences Shows Battery Service with a Triangle.
Also I am noticing when I have more that two Applications open, sunddenly computer heats up, the Fan goes wild and the Battery nose dives fro 98% to almost screen black out.
I have to hold down Power Button down, to quit.
Then when powered up immediately started charging battery the Fan continued blowing for a while.  but then Quit.
    I have a Battery coming.
I've tried the SMC reset. Dut I am not sure I am doing it right. Its almost impossible to press the shift-control-option and Power button down.
Any one have this issue and what am missing.

Its not completely dead. it stay 98% until all of sudden the Fan goes crazy the computer gets hot the the charge falls to 10-15% percent then the screen goes black. Then if you shut down by holding power key down, then restart it immediatey start recharging. It will recharge to 100% in about 30 minutes.  then next time you restart computer its back to 98%.

  • Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
    - Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
    - Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
    - Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
    - Graphics and video support:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
    Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see  any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

  • ProjectMix with Logic 8.01, Macbook Pro, and Leopard.

The subject line gives my set up. It is pretty hopeless to get this to work. I have a few questions that I would love to have answered.
    1. When I hook up the ProjectMix to my Macbook Pro, it is hooked up via the firewire connection. Do I need to also hook up midi cables? I thought the ProjectMix would work with just firewire between the mixer and the computer but when I read the section of the manual about control surface hookup, it seemed to suggest that I needed to hook up bidirectional midi cables.
    2. I realize that part of my problem may be that M-Audio has not released drivers for Leopard yet. But there seem to be a few posts on this forum that the latest 10.4 drivers work with Leopard. Is there any consensus on this matter?
    3. Most troubling is the fact that when I hook up a firewire 800 external drive to my MacBook Pro, the computer locks up when I try to access the drive while running Logic Pro with the Project Mix hooked up. I searched the M-Audio web site for any possible FAQs about this and found one that said, in effect, hooking up the ProjectMix and an external firewire 800 drive to a computer may cause conflicts and create distortion and drop outs because both ports are accessing the same port within the computer. Their solution was to get a PCMIA firewire interface card for the computer and hook the ProjectMix to that. No dice with the MacBook Pro since it doesn't have a PCMIA slot. Holy mackarel! Has anyone managed to use a MacBook Pro, the ProjectMix and an external firewire 800 drive either under Tiger or Leopard system software? Should I be looking for a different interface?
I realize this is quite a ball of wax but any help would be appreciated. I hate to think that my ProjectMix has become a doorstop since I tried to change over from ProTools to Logic. After all, the ProjecMix has a setup specific to Logic that I set when I booth up the ProjectMix.

I cannot really comment on this except to say that other posts on the websites I mentioned on my previous post show that you are not alone. I have successfully run a Focusrite LiquidMix on one FW400 port and the ProjectMix on the other FW400 port on my iMac. At the time I built my external drives (from my own choice of case, interface and hard disk) I opted to go USB2, partly because of concerns about FW audio and FW disks not being compatible and partly because I wanted to put two drives in each case, one of which was for use on Windows machines. Windows is cr*p at handling FW drives, so USB2 was essential for me.
EDIT: maybe, just maybe you could either change the interface in your external drive case OR if you are really lucky maybe someone somewhere sells USB2 to FW adapters so you could plug your FW drive into a USB2 port. I can't say I've ever seen one, but you never know....

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.
