Re-framing an angle in a multicam

OK... so I'm trying to show someone a "best practice" for re-framing a camera angle in a multiclip.  If the issue is to re-frame the angle for the *entire* sequence, then I just open the multiclip in the timeline, choose the angle and zoom and re-frame.
But here's the issue... Suppose you want to zoom back out to 100% at some point.  Is it best to animate that in the multiclip?  This would work but it would be tedious and not terribly accurate if you were doing it alot. I haven't been able to keyframe zooms in the mulitclip sequence and, as I understand it, there's no way (or reason) to "collapse multiclip" the way you do in FCP 7.
This is about to come up a lot in a theater production I filmed.  We shot it very high because we knew we'd be outputing at standard definition.  One of the camera operators was especially concerned about going in too tight and *all* of his footage is going to have to be reframed.
Any ideas would be very helpful!

Hi,
Yes you can : it is an architectural problem.
You must divide the work into 2 methods : one on the generic level and one
on the concrete level.
The generic level will manage the cinematic : it could be ExecSql. In the
ExecSql method you can call a DoExecSql method which can be overridden by
the developers and contain the sql statement. Then, the ExecSql method can
manage the reconnect using DBSession.Reconnect before the call of the
DoExecSql if the DBSession.IsConnected = FALSE. You can also manage a While
with a limited number of retries if you catch the exception from the
DoExecSql method.
Just be aware that when you will reconnect to the database, you will loose
the statements you could have cached with your DBSession.
Hope this helps,

Hi!
I have the following problem:
1. I have a class, name SQLManager
2. I have a method, ExecSQL
3. In method ExecSQL I do some SQL, occasionally it's loosing the
connection to the DB, gets an
exception, reasoncode 201 (If my memory is correct)
4. I have some subclasses of SQLManager, which override ExecSQL, and do
some SQL stuff in it.
Question: Is it possible to handle the specific exception in the
superclass, and do the reconnect?
And probably let the subclass execute the ExecSQL again?
Or has anybody better ideas of organizing these things?
TIA, best regards,
Akos Gabriel

  • Multicamera angle's view out to external monitor?

    Hello Forum,
Is it possible to have the angle view of multicamera viewable via transmit to my external monitor?  (via Blackmagic Intensity Pro)
Currently, it only displays the active angle.
    Thanks all!
    - Ryan

You could get a Canopus box and put the video out firewire to a video monitor that composite video in.
To do this the video needs to be a DV stream.
If the video is the new hi def standard with a framerate of 23.97, you will see picture but it won't be frame accurate sync.
If you have a G5 or a Mac Pro you could get another video card and display the video on that.

  • Color correction in multicam source sequence

Hi everybody, this is really making me crazy.
I've created a multicam source sequence from three clips in the bin (3 camera angles).
I imported the newly created multicam source sequence in a new sequence and I began cutting it.
    It's a 40 minutes theatre piece.
When I was at 20 minutes I realized that one camera has a slightly off white balance.
How do I make the color correction to only one camera angle in a multicam source sequence ?
If I open the multicam source sequence in the Source Monitor I can't drag any effect.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do i replace a multicam clip?

I have a multi clip timeline which is a recital and that is synch'd to the external audio recording which was imported from Pro Tools.
I would like to replace a couple of clips with a third camera angle.
When building the timeline, I just used undo to delete the unwnted edit and just went from there.
What I want to do is overwrite the time line with an different camera angle without screwing up my synch.
    Current version of FCPX 10.0.9
    How is this done?

With an angle in the multicam clip? You can use Option and the amngle number. You can right-click and select the angle. Or do you mean repalce with a shot that's not in the multicam clip.

  • Audio pops/clicks when changing angles in multicam clips

I am having problems with audio pops/clicks when working with angle switching in multicam clips. it always occurs when i utilize any of the "audio enhancements" features, such as the loudness or background noise removal features. Switching angles results in audible audio pops. The only way to get rid of them is to disable the audio enhancements. This occurs regardless of the audio source. Is this a known bug that is being addressed? I rely heavily on the audio editing features in my work and am hoping this will be resolved in an update soon. Thanks for any help-

Hi Brad, thanks for the reply!
That sounds like a good workaround. What I have been doing in the meantime is create a new compound clip after I finish all of my cuts, and then apply the audio edits to the new contiguous audio clip in the compound clip.
What is really strange and frustrating is that all of my new audio bugginess really began when I could no longer detach audio from my multicam clips in 10.0.9... After doing many searches here, it seems that in this most recent update of FCPX this is no longer a 'feature'... I don't know why they changed this, but in older updates of FCPX you could detach audio from original clips, compound clips, or multicam clips with no problems. I would routinely create and edit all of the angle cuts in my multicam clips in the timeline, and then if I wanted to, be able to detach the audio and do more edits if needed. Thankfully I can still apply edits to compound audio clips, but it would sure be nice if I could just correct/enhance audio without ugly-sounding artifacts in multicam edits. Thanks again-

I've seen informational programs on working in an editing/grading suite with clients, even to doing so with say a client and the editor on one continent, and the colorist on another continent, with screen-sharing programs. Setting up to do that they had one monitor for their basic controls, a program monitor, and a larger (and spendy) b-cast quality monitor for the person running the station, and another monitor set to the side that could be switched to either show the b-cast monitor signal or program monitor OR the basic controls, depending on what they needed to show to the client. And this one was typically a calibrated but nowhere near as expensive monitor as the "working" monitors.

  • Multicam editing: Can't get blade to show in angle viewer when trying to edit in Timeline

This problem just appeared. I have done lots of multicam editing in FCPX, it works great.
But, today I started on a new video and:
    - I created the first multicam clip, it looks fine.
    - I created a Project and appended the multicam clip into the Project, it looks fine.
    - I see all the Angles in the Angle Viewer, it looks normal.
    - I select the Event Browser and hit play, all angles play. I move the curser over an angle and I see a hand, just as I should. everything fine so far.
    - I click in the Timeline and hit the space bar and the selected angle and audio start to play..........BUT the angles in the angle viewer do NOT play. Not right.
    - With the Timeline still selected, I move the curser over an angle in the angle viewer, and i see the hand, NOT the Blade.
So, FCPX thinks I am still in the Event Browser, even though when I click in the Timeline, the Timeline background color changes to light grey, which says I am in the Timeline. FCPX is not letting me go into the Timeline (even though the background color changes).
I have to be doing something dumb, but I don't see it.
    Any suggestions?

Turns out that was EXACTLY the problem --- I kept looking around and finally discovered the problem was that I was NOT in a project (although I thought I was).
    Nevertheless, thank you for responding.

  • Is it possible to change multicam angle property? Or add video to what is seen as a audio angle?

I'm getting footage from overseas and first I was sent just the audio files, so I assumed i could just put the audio files into a multicam clip angle and started keywording and favoriting the new clip, which i did.  Now I've received the video files.  as per normal, I added an angle from the triangle drop-down menu, and tried adding the video but it won't let me.  Using an "insert edit" I get a message "You are combining audio and video clips in an audio-only angle. You cannot add video clips to existing audio-only angles."
The issue seems to be that if the first angle you create only gets audio files added to it, and you then use that angle to add another angle from the triangle drop-down, it forces that new angle to be audio only, and it won't accept video. I've confirmed this with separate tests.
I could start the multicam clip from scratch and add a video clip first, but trying not to lose all the keywording work (which was a lot).  There doesn't seem to be any way to change angle properties or to add a new angle that isn't audio-only by default.
    any suggestions much appreciated

Just click on the little triangle in the Angle Editor and choose "Add Angle". Now drag your video clip into the new angle.
Synchronization, though, is another matter. All in all, you'll probably be better served by creating a new mulicam clip, by way of which you'll get everything properly synched.

  • Choppy playback when selecting camera angle in multicam editing

Working with Adobe Premiere Pro CC fully updated (as of this post).
When playing back all 4 angles in "Multi-Camera" view they all play smooth. No Problems.
When I start selecting the angle I want a the specific time during playback the box around the camera angle turns red, all 4 angles skip and get choppy for a short time and then catches up. This makes for a bad editing experience as I have to wait for the footage to catch back up before I can see what angle I want for the next selection.
If I stop playback and start again the video is smooth until I select and angle different from what is currently playing... choppy for a second... then smooth again once it "catches up"
It'll play all 4 angles smooth ALL DAY until I select a different angle.

Thanks for the feedback echobrain. I'm thinking this has to be the issue.
I know that 60p footage can be converted down to 24p. Can anyone point me to the best practice for doing that in bulk with adobe tools without losing footage quality? Or maybe other free third party tool that does it in bulk?

  • Adding angle to multicam clip

    Hi
I have searched the internet and this message bord, but haven't found a good way to solve my problem.
I have shot a wedding ceremony with two cameras and one external audio recorder.
I have tried creating a multicam clip using these three angles, syncing them all with the audio angle. The first angle syncs fine, the second angle is not syncing at all, instead it adds all the smaller clips in weird order (not even according to the created time, even though they were all shot with the same camera).
I have a different part of the same wedding using the same angles that works fine. I think the main problem is that the first camera next to the altar and the audio recorder is close to eachother. The second camera was handheld among all the guests and therefore pics up a lot of background noise and whispering. But the sound of the priest and all the speeches are clearly audible.
    So, the questions:
    1. Is there a way to improve the sound so they can sync automatically?
    2. If not, can I somehow sync angle 1 and the audio and then add the second angle and sync it manually to the audio? Problem here is if I add all the clips, they get inserted in one row instead of with gaps according to created time.
    3. I tried adding "first markers" to the first clip of every angle and syncing them, but the second camera still is completely off.
Any ideas how to do this or do I have to add every single clip and manually sync it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Multicam works in the angle editor but not in timeline

I have 2 cameras in the new multicam system and they work in the angle viewer in the angle editor but once I go back to my work  timeline one of the cameras goes black and there is no video or audio .  Please help.

    i just figured it out.....

  • Effects in Multicam Angle Editor not Rendering

When I add color correction (magic bullet looks) to a master clip in a multicam edit (so in the Angle Editor), the effect does not render either in the background or manually. The effect does appear, it just does not render.
So, once I add the effect this way I can no longer edit or even get smooth playback in real-time with the multi-cam editor (it needs to render first). I expect that with Magic Bullet Looks, so I know I have to render once apply it. But it won't render unless I export it as a movie.
I can add the color clip by clip instead in the regular timeline, but that can be very time consuming.
Even if I wait to do color correction until the very end of my workflow, I still need to be able to render effects on muticam masters if possible.
Are there some options I could try to get around this?

It is kind of a difficult senario to explain, but I am trying with Red Giant to see if they have any thoughts on it.
But I am thinking that in the multicam angle editor, you can only apply effects that your system can handle in real-time and not effects that would require rendering (at least until final output of a project).

  • Slide Clips in Multicam Angle Editor?

Trying to help a friend learn multicam in FCP X, and he's run into an issue with the clip sync that's making him need to manually sync up one clip.
Problem: clips can't move. They're snapping back to where they were before. Anybody know of a way to freely slide a clip in its angle in the editor?

Normally when you open the multicam clip in the angle editor, the pointer defaults to Position tool, which lets you move the angles freely in the lanes. If this isn't happening for you press P for the Position tool.
P.S. you can also nudge with comma/period or Shift-comma/period.

  • Crop command in multicam angle editor

When I activate the crop command in the multicam angle editor the viewer screen goes black. The command functions but I cannot see a picture to evaluate what the crop will look like. When I am finished with the crop command the picture returns and I can see the resulting crop. It works fine on regular clips and even on the multicam clip in a project on the timeline. The only problem is in the angle editor. Weird.
    OS X 10.9.4 & FCPX 10.1.3
    Thanks

I did a quick test and I have the exact same problem. In the Angle Editor, Trim works ok, but both Crop and Ken Burns turn the viewer black. They still work, but you're "blind" making the adjustments.

  • Tagging/Favorite certain angle of Multicam Clip?

Is there a way to TAG or FAVORITE a certain angle of a multiclip?  It appears that all tagging and favoriting will apply to multiclip as a whole, with no indication of which angle the tag was intended to apply to.
I want to mark certain sections of certain angles of a multiclip to favorite so I remember to use them in the edit, but there doesn't seem to be a way.
Sadly, when you multiclip two clips it doesn't seem to take the tagging/favoriting with it, so i can't tag previous to making the multicam clip because all that stuff disappears.
I sort of found a workaround for the favoriting part.  I simply make a favorite in the multiclip then rename "Favorite" to include the angle number I am referring to.
But I can't do that same workaround for tagging.
    Am I missing something?

You coulld use markers and make notes.
