Re: Links in PDFs created in Office:mac

I've been putting in a request for this issue of the Adobe PDF Viewer not working with Mozilla products on Mac. As well as the issue with URL not working In Mcrosoft Office for Mac since version OSX.2.8. (about 10 years maybe longer.)
In Acrobat XI the URL issue now Partial fixed the URL link. IF I drop the word or Excel or Word File directly on Acrobat direct links written as http://  will work If you selected a word or phrase in Word  and made it a link still does not work.
I know I am not the only one with the issues. I can the only one out the millions and millions of Mac users to have these issues.
I have reported this several times a year ever since OSX.2.8.

I have MS as well And they say adobe just  plain Wrong. and have proved it. They say is an Issue. with Adobe. they just don't wish to fix it.
I don't use Apple's PDF engine. I use the Adobe PDF engine that is part of the Print > Adobe (Quality) PDF.  Also I drag and Drop to Acrobat directly which bypasses the printing. Doing this as described above works.  By you way of thinking Pages shouldn't work eiether. It does all links whether pure Urls whether a word is chosen and made a link Work. Or OpenOffice should work. They all go through print menu. According to Microsoft the code to make all links are identical between Office PC and Office Mac.
I can round Trip and document from word to Pages and Back to Word and all Links work. Just openning Convertting to Pages format, doing nothing, then exporting back to Word then Go through Print menu All links stay active. if "link Hooks" were not there they would not travel over to Pages and Back to Word.  Adobe is Blowing smoke.
So this is whatI expected.  In other word Adobe really doesn't care what Mac User need. Never have and never will.

HTML link to pdf works ok on Mac but not on ipad. Adobe Reader for ipad downloaded. What's wrong?

    Hi pwillener,
Thank for reply. The pdf’s are in a subfolder “PDF” of the folder holding the web page. The web page itself uses
. This works in full size computer browsers but not in an iPad.
My excursion through the search engine has produced the idea of adding #page = requesting page to the URL but I have not had time to try it perhaps without the = sign.

  • Links in PDF created by MS Access work fine in Chrome and Foxit, but seem corrupted in Adobe Reader XI

I am using version 11.0.09.29 of Reader which I understand to be the latest, and version 6.1.4.0217 of Foxit.
The document is Dropbox - D00769 Parish Register Reconstructed.pdf  and I have created this with an MS Access repoort exported as PDF to Dropbox.
If I download this and open in Foxit and click on the first camera icon on page 1 I am taken to the correct URL with no problem http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…   (Note that the full URL is correct and ends N=7, but this forum has shortened what is shown here with an ellipsis.)
Similarly clicking on the second camera icon on page 1 also correctly takes me to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%20of%20marriage s%201837-1963&S=600&X=D00769&N…
All the links behind all the other camera icons are also correct in Foxit (and incidentally in Chrome).
If I open the same document in Reader and click on the first camera icon I am taken to http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%25On - which is not correct and comes up with an error (a).
Interestingly the second camera icon in Reader takes me to http://hcnhisotonr/ which is very wrong, as does every other camera icon on the same page (b).
It seems that in Reader the first link on each page is as at (a) above, and every other link is as (b) above.
There is no problem with the link in the footer of each page.
I have checked on the forum entries that might have helped (e.g. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1133628) but these seem to be about %20 being encoded as %2520 thereby causing errors, and were solved with a new version of Reader last year. It looks like mine may be a similar but not identical issue.
Any ideas what is going on?
    Thanks

There's something very strange going on with this file. It doesn't actually contain any links (except for in the footer), but the URLs in transparent text located behind the camera icon and the first line of each item.
So if you have the option set to create links from URLs then Acroabt/Reader will recognize that text and convert it into a clickable link...
There are many problems with that, mainly that the URL text overlaps with the actual text of the document. So if you copy the first lines of the first page, it looks like this:
HcN Parish Register of marriages 1837-1963
    Page 1
    http://hcnhistory.org.uk/PDC/showJboximages.php/?T=HcN%20Parish%20Register%On 19 Sep 1837 John Munns (Labourer; aged 19 Years; signed) of 2H0oolfy%w2e0mll wararisa gMesa%rr2i0e1d8 b3y7 -H19u6g3h& FSo=r6d0 0B&aXc=oDn0 b0y7 6B9a&nNn=s7 t&oN A=
Sophia Mann (of Full age; signed) of Holywell
As you can see, the URL string is cut in the middle by the actual text, and is therefore broken when clicked (it happens in the forum system as well, just the same).
Other problems are that it screws up the text, and also that it won't work at all if the setting mentioned above is disabled.
If possible, I would recommend abandoning this weird system altogether and sticking with creating actual Link objects, like you did in the footer.
That is a much more reliable and consistent method of inserting clickable web-links into your file.

  • PDF created from Office 2013 with Acrobat X doesn't have correct page size

We have a process of quickly creating PDFs along with combining several Word files to PDF by utilizing the "right click" on a Word file(s) to save as a PDF within Windows.  Many times, our page size in Word is 5.5 X 8.5 and it does not save actual page size once PDF is created by using the "right click" and defaults to 8 1/2 X 11.  Is there a way to fix this or edit a setting?  It works fine from within Word if you "Save as" or "Export" but we need the right click to save as actual page size.  Please help. It worked fine in all previous versions of Word/Office.  Thanks!

    Hi pwhite2315,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
Try using 'Create PDF' option under Acrobat ribbon in your word file and check for the same.
Also, please open 'Preferences' for Acrobat PDFMaker and check what 'Conversion Settings' have you selected.
    Let me know.

  • Links to PDFs Created with Illustrator Won't Work

I am using CS3. I create a document in Illustrator, save it as a PDF, and create a link to the PDF either through our website developer or through a newsletter program I am using. If I create the PDF using other programs (such as MSWord or Excel), the link works fine. If the original document is created using Illustrator and then saved as a PDF, the file will open directly as a PDF no problems. However, when I link to the PDF, the PDF downloads about 95% to 99% and then just stops on a blank page. Sometimes I get the message that the download is done; sometimes it just sits there at 95% downloaded and never progresses. Anyone else experience this?

That's weird. Did you try and run the "Optimize" stuff in Acrobat? Perhaps it still has some references and fancies turned on that are unsuitable. Also there may be something up with your Internet Zoen surveillance and Illu simply not be an trusted app, so your PDFs are flagged as risky by the system...

  • Office mac 2011 cannot open pdf

I cannot open pdf files in office mac 2011.
    Does anyone have any suggestions.

It sounds like you want to be able to modify a PDF in Word.
If that is the case you need a program that will open the PDF and then perform an OCR (Optical Scan Recognition) on it to convert it back to text (PDF is a form of image/graphic file; like a photo taken of how it will print).
Take a look at PDFPen Pro:

They also have a more limited featured version for less money:

  • Problems opening & printing pdf files created on a Mac

I am at my wit's end! I recently upgraded to a new version of Acrobat and suddenly a lot of my clients could no longer open my pdf files. I uninstalled the latest version of Acrobat and reinstalled an older version (Acrobat 8.1.3). Some clients started being able to open my pdf files but others could not. So I started using the Acrobat Share server and sending links. Some of my clients cannot open those either and many cannot print even if they can open the files that way. I personally also cannot print from the Acrobat Share server. The pdf files print out with all the surrounding graphics and application design elements. I also can't open the pdf files that I created on my Mac using my PC laptop running Vista. I have tried opening and printing both pdf files and the Acrobat Share links from my Mac and my PC laptop running Vista, to no avail.
I was under the impression that compatibility problems between Macs and PCs were largely a thing of the past. I was also under the impression that the whole point of exchanging pdf files was that pdf files are cross-platform compatible. Not only am I am losing tons of valuable time, I may be losing credibility with my clients (especially since I have an IT background). I desperately need to know what version of Acrobat I should be running on my Mac so that when I scan documents into my Mac, the pdf files that are created are completely 100% compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems regardless of what operating system and what version of Acrobat my clients are running. I also need to be sure that those same pdf files I create on my Mac can be seemlessly printed out from either a Mac or PC regardless of the operating system or Acrobat Reader version. If anyone can help me get to the bottom of this, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks.

This file downloaded and works fine for me in Preview on both OS X 10.5.7 and 10.4.11 (and opens in Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 and 8.1.5, and the latest version of Reader on both versions of the OS). As expected.
If you're printing from Acrobat.com by right clicking in the image area and selecting Print, don't. This isn't printing the PDF, it's printing the Flash frame that contains, as you've noticed, buttons and other elements. (Adobe's Mac Flash plugin is notoriously buggy.) Direct your clients to download the file by selecting the download button, not by right clicking and printing.
Again, your PDF file is fine.

  • PPT slides pdf created on Mac messed up when opened on PC

Hello folks! I have been saving my PPT handouts as PDFs (using Print->PDF->Save as PDF) and e-mailing to our secretary for printing. However, when she opens them on her PC, the color schemes of the slides and formatting of some background shapes (e.g., boxes) is messed up. For instance, a blue background appears as white and a gray rectangle I have as background for the shape appears smaller than it should be. When she opens pdfs created by other Windows users, there are no such problems. Just mine and another colleague's, both being Mac users. Btw, our slides appear fine on some other PCs.
I thought pdf files were platform-independent. Doesn't seem to be the case here. I have been creating the slides using Office of Mac 2011 and my OS is 10.6.8. Not sure which version of Adobe Reader our secretary has, but she tells me it's the latest version. Is her computer missing something that hampers the display of the slides? Any ideas on what may be going on?
    Thanks in advance.

This is not a mac/pc issue. It's a page code issue combined
    with browser
rendering. And as long as you build your pages without a
    valid and complete
doctype on them, you will continue to have these problems.
    > I'm not good with code
DW will be a frustrating experience for you in this state.
The real culprit here is revealed in this line of code -
    <!-- ImageReady Slices (sep_services.psd
Layout problems with pages built using graphics applications
    to write your
HTML probably account for 50% of the posts to this forum,
    unfortunately.
All of these issues are caused by the fact that the graphics
    apps write the
HTML to EXACTLY match the image, but in doing so, that HTML
    will break when
you replace the image with real-world content that has a
    slightly (even VERY
    slightly) different shape.
But try this - in code view, find and replace all instances
    of this -
    border="0"></a> </td>
    with this -
    border="0"></a></td>
(note that all I did there was to remove a trailing space
    from the </a> tag)
    does that help?

  • How to create link for pdf file in discoverer worksheet

    Hi All,
I would like to create a link for pdf file into discoverer report (worksheet).
So that i can open linked pdf file using worksheet link.
Can any one tell me about this?
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
I think the best way to do this is to use a database directory so that you can access your pdf file as a bfile. Then create a mod_plsql procedure that sets the mime type and downloads the pdf file. You then create a calculation in the EUL then returns the URL to your mod_plsql procedure. You can then include this calculation as a hyperlink in your worksheet.
It is not as difficult as it sounds. Please let me know if you need anymore details.

  • PDF created on MAC not working on windows 7

PDF created in Indesign CS6 on MAC is not working properly in Indesign CC on windows 7. I'm using PDF2ID to convert pdf. I'm sending pictures to show how it looks like in InDesign after convertion and in the Adobe Reader. And convertions took so long or crashes my InDesign... What can I do to fix it?

Were you expecting a perfect conversion? If so, that’s not going to happen.

  • Adobe Reader 9.x crashes when opening PDF's created using Office 2007

I work on the helpdesk side for a big corporation and many of our users are reporting that when they try to open a PDF, it locks up their Internet Explorer or Reader 9.x
We noticed that the problems were only caused by PDFs that were presentations created in PowerPoint, then saved as a PDF with the Office 2007 Save as PDF plugin. So what we did was engaged an engineer at Microsoft to look into the issue.  They did a lot of troubleshooting and narrowed it down.
They think that if the presentation was created using PP 2003 then opened in PP 2007 then saved as a PDF then this causes AR 9.x to crash.  So what they did was remove the slide number, and added a new slide number using PP 2007, save it as a PDF then it opens in AR 9.x
All other versions of AR can open the PDF under the same scenario.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Thanks

It's almost identical to what you posted. I think the difference was that I was trying on a machine with complete install of Acrobat which has the font packs and hence there was no hang/crash. Your file doesn't hang on that machine either.
If you look at the fonts panel in your document: File>Properties>Fonts, you'll notice that it uses MS-PGothic font which is a Japanese fonts, and hence the Japanese font pack might fix this.
Also, since you mentioned ACE.dll, the other possibility might be that there are conflicting DLLs on the system, commonly referred to as DLL Hell. Another thing to try would be to search the system for ACE.dll and see which all software install it.

  • Acrobat 9.5, file corruption when combining .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document

In Acrobat 9, when I combine .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document, there is data corruption. Some of the text appears as blank boxes when the pages are inserted into the larger .pdf, the main document. I have so far solved this by "printing" the files to .pdf, and then inserting them into the larger .pdf main document, but this creates a fatter .pdf file that is much larger than would otherwise be the case. Are there any other solutions within Acrobat 9, please? If this bug has been solved in Acrobat X or XI, please advise. Thanks.

As far as the images are concerned, that may be a result of your choice of job settings. You may want to use the Press or Print option if the image quality is important. I assume you are talking about bit images in this case.
As to the hangup, have you checked to see if AcroTray is active on your system? It may not be running as needed. In the meantime, try checking print to file and then opening that file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF.
Before you ever try a reinstall, you need to do a repair first to see if that resolves the problem. There are a lot of unknowns about your exact process for the printing and your job settings that may be part of the problem. The rest of your system setup is useful in some cases, but did not help me see your problem.

  • Editting PDF documents that were created by a MAC doesn't work because of font incompatability.  How can we get MAC fonts and load in our Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

Editting PDF documents that were created by a MAC doesn't work because of font incompatability.  How can we get MAC fonts and load in our Adobe Acrobat Pro 9?

If it's a Mac font and you're on Windows, you can't. If you are also on a Mac, you'll need to purchase the fonts (fonts are generally non-transferable, like software. One of the reasons pdf exists), install them and try your edits.
But it's best to edit the original document and create a new pdf when finished.

  • Log files when creating a pdf from PDFMaker Office COM addin

    Hello,
I just bought Acrobat Standard to create pdfs on Word 2013.
I'm making a catalog using this two softwares, Word 2013 (latest version with all updates) and Acrobat XI (latest version, 11.0.06). Unfortunately things are not working as I wish, and on some documents almost at the end of the transformation process, it can't save the pdf file or it gives a major word error, exiting word.
When the transformation process is running/ending, are there any logs created to see what happens in case of errors?? If yes, where can I look up for them??

Sorry, but when the pdf is created or not (like when happens on this particulary case), I don't see any logs on the same folder.
Let me try to explain my problem in depth.  I have a docx, a big file with 200 pages. It's created with Word 2013 but using the 2010 docx format for compatibility reasons. I beggun using the Word x64 but now I'm using the x86 and the problem happens on both and in the same ways.
First. If I try to convert the whole document, most of the times (I'd say 70%) the pdf doesn't get created or the rest of the times (30%) It causes a crash to Word with a dll error. Normally it halts (whether it doesn't create the pdf of halts word) at a certain page, after repaginanting all pages and when it says that is creating page nº X.
I already pinpoint, more or less, where the error is. The error is located on the first pages, more exactly on the index pages. It's not a index created by the Word, it is a set of pages that I manually built with a grid of pictures with each one having a hyperlink to a designated bookmark to a desire page on the document. If I "pdfmaker" the rest of the whole document (without the index pages) I can get the pdf created.
So, the index is where the problem resides. On this thread, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5816803#5816803 , you will see that I had a another problem due to the method used on Word 2003 about hyperlink of images that no longer works (when exporting to pdf) on the latests words versions, at least on the Word 2013. The pdf file was created with no problem, but on the pdf the hyperlinks were not created due to something that M$ has resolved to change between Word 2003 and Word 2007. I found a way to fix that (listed on that thread link). But as I like to invent, on the Field box, on the field options, for this time, I decided to choose the option "Data not stored with the document". That is what is breaking the pdf conversion. Too bad. Now I have to clear the index all the way and start again from the beggining but without that option. I already remake 3 pages and after the conversion the pdf is created. I have to finish the index redone once again and then create the full pdf document to see if any of those errors/halts happen again.
I just wish to see a adobe log to see what type of error this bug produces so it would be possible to adobe crush the bug
P.S. - Sorry if I was too confusiong for anyone to understand what I'm trying to say here
