Re: Online number appearing as "locksmith" on call...

Hi,
Need help.
This online number appears as "locksmith" on the owner's celphone number and we want to know why.
Need your response asap as we don't want this to appear on our clients' caller ID's.
Thanks.
xxxxxxxxxx - US Online Skype Number

Perhaps the number was preowned by a locksmith and had that added.
Best thing to do would be to block your called ID or change the number associated with it?
Otherwise, get on to skype support via live chat.

  • Subscribed online number not showing up on Called ...

Hi,  I recently extended my subscription for an online phone number on Skype.  Howevermy online number is not showing up on other people's phone when I call them.  Instead, they get a random number when I call them.  It used to work correctly before the extension.   Please recommend the proper procedure to have my online number displayed on other people's phone when I call them.  Thank you.

Ever since I renewed my original US phone number it no longer shows up the same. While people can dial my US number and reach me. Yet if I call them my 310 US number shows up as a 661 area code or unknown caller, why is this? And can it be changed back to my original 310 number that appears when I call friends and family?
If people on telephones are seeing what you describe when you are calling from Skype, you need to make sure your Caller ID settings have your Online Number used for Caller ID.  It is possible something changed the Caller ID settings.  If the Online Number expired and then you renewed it, the expiration probably turned off your Caller ID.  Caller ID is not enabled by default, allowing Skype users to make that choice.

  • Make a call with an Online number?

Can you make a call if you have an online number or can you only recieve calls with an online number?  What I mean by this is that can you make a domestic call without paying any additional money if you already have an online number.

With an online number, you only can receive calls from the country you chose.

  • Receiving calls via Skype Online Number

I understand that I pay £10 for 3 months to set this up.
I understand that callers pay for a local call (so long as they're close to that local number)
I do NOT understand if I pay to receive each call and if so, how much?

  • Dropping merged calls - Online Number

I often do calls where I patch in 3 or so people on my cell. One of those people uses a Skype Online Number. I will start calling people and merging the calls on my IPhone (as if I'm merging normally with other mobile lines and landlines). At some point, I will call the Skype Online number, which initially picks up just fine. Then, the Online Number will either not merge or drops shortly after merging.
The problem could be the fact that I don't have Skype Credit, but I believe I don't need it if I'm dialing the Online Number as in incoming call.
    Any ideas?

Interesting.  I found on another thread (click here!) that with the ConnectMe, firmware version 1.0.6.3 supports inbound caller-id.  So I checked and my devices says:
"Current firmware version 1.0.1, last updated on 08-12-2011. From time to time the firmware of your device may be upgraded."
I guess I will have to wait and see when the device does a firmware upgrade to see if the caller-id feature starts working on in-bound calls.

  • A few Online Number Questions

First of all, I live in Canada and it doesn't appear that I can get a Canadian online number.  Any idea when that will become available?
Also, is there any way to change the Call Display feature to display not only a business name, but also a number that is DIFFERENT than the online number.  As I cannot get a Canadian online number, I would need the call display to read my business name, and then the local Canadian phone number that I would like people to call (so they avoid long distance charges).
Any help you could provide would be apprecaited.

  • My Online Number

I'm furious and deserve credit. I've been paying for an online number for over a year on a 3 month basis so my friends and family in California can call me in Korea. When they call my number it tells them the number is not in service. When I call their cellphones it shows a different number every time so they often don't answer. WHAT AM I PAYING YOU FOR YOU IDIOTS? Why doesn't my local online number appear on their phone? I'm extremely dissatisfied with Skype. It's a joke! Finally why don't you have reasonable support? Why is their no phone number or email address we can contact? Is it because you don't give a **bleep**?

  • Testing Online Number

I've purchased and received confirmation that I should now have an online number, but my cell phone calls to it to test are failing. I'll add that I'm calling from abroad, and that up to an hour ago, my profile listed me as in Germany, though my credit card account and number are in the US. I am calling from a cell phone from Taiwan - if any of this impacts things.
Please help out with suggestions. Thanks.

UPDATE FROM LYDIATWADS:  An update in hopes someone has some information that can help.  I have unplugged all phones, answering machines, etc.  except one working corded telephone.  I do NOT have DSL or FIOS.  Every once in a while my telephone that is plugged in will make a noise (shorter than a regular ring) and I pick it up and have a dial tone for a short while and then the dial tone disappears again.  I have two phone jacks in my NID outside (the top one is my current phone line and the bottom was was for a previous owner of my home who had two phone lines - the second phone line has not operated in my house for over 5 years).  When I plug into the NID, I have no dial tone for my  jack but do get a dial tone for the second jack which has obviously been reassigned to a different customer.  Can any of this information help a Verizon employee contact me to let me know if this seems to be a Verizon problem or an inside problem?  I know that if I don't have a dial tone outside, it should be Verizon's problem but the periodic return of the dial tone is quite confusing to me.  I am still waiting on a repair response from Verizon (when I called the 800 number, the automated operator said it appeared to be a Verizon problem but an email response from Verizon said it appeared to be my problem inside).  What am I to do????  Thanks all!

  • Online number the same as an existing phone number...

Okay, I'll ask this a second time.  I'm starting to wonder if there's actually a customer service department around here or not...
I am a Phoenix area resident, but I'm currently working overseas.  I set up a Skype online number so that people could call me back home.  In particular, I am getting ready to start grad school and I need this number available to take calls from my advisors.
Unfortunatley, I get about 2-3 calls per day from different numbers.  People claim that someone from my number keeps calling them and hanging up.  Obviously, this is not true.  I'm not even logged in unless I'm home.
Because I am expecting important calls on this number, I can not block calls that are not on my contacts.  That would block calls from people whom I need to speak to.  I need this mystery resolved as quickly as possible.  I have paid good money for this number and I do not want to have to shut it off.
Is there any actual customer service department here, or am I on my own?  When I posted the question, I didn't mean "Oh, ignore it and make me wait 6 days."

I own a small business and use Skype as my outgoing calls from my home and kept a basic At&t incoming groundline into my home. The problem is sometimes potential clients just call back on the number in their caller ID instead of my home number.
I would like to make my displayed number from me on Skype to people I call showing my home telephone number. Can this be done?
    Thanks, JT
The only way you could make your home number appear as Caller ID when you call from Skype is if your home number can receive the SMS messages sent by Skype in the verification process.  In most places, landline phones are not able to receive SMS messages, so your landline telephone carrier would be able to answer that.  If the landline number can't receive SMS messages, then you would not be able to use it as Caller ID with Skype.

  • My Online number does not ring

I keep getting told by people that they are ringing my number and it just rings out.
I dont get a notification on my pc or a missed call logged.
This does not happen all the time, but frankly once is more than enough.
I would like to contact Skype directly about this, but can't see how - has anyone else had this problem?
Is there something I can do/check to see if its my end?
    Thx for your time.
    Steve

I have had a Skype online telephone number for over two years. However, within the last two months, I have been having a similar problem as SteveCl, as when someone calls my Skype telephone number my Skype does not ring intermittently.
In addition, I use Google Voice, which allows someone to call my Google Voice telephone number, which will then automatically ring all of the telephones that I have associated with this service. For example, if someone calls my Google Voice number, my landline, cell phone, MagicJack, and Skype telephone lines (should) ring. My landline, cell phone, and MagicJack all ring consistently when someone calls my Google Voice telephone number. However, Skype rings intermittently, at least in the last two months.
Until recently, my Skype online number rang consistently when someone called it. This problem has only manifested itself within the last two months. Making the problem even more puzzling is that sometimes my Skype online number will ring through while other times it will not. For example, on March 24, 2012, it worked; however, on March 25, it does not work. Sometimes Skype will not ring through at 3 p.m. but will ring through at 3:30 p.m.; as I said, this is very intermittent. I have the most recent version of the Skype software installed. Skype is configured to allow calls to my Skype number from anyone. I have not changed this setting.
I can use Skype to call out to telephone numbers or other Skype users without a problem. In addition, I have not noticed any problems when Skype users call me; Skype on my ends rings through in this case. Skype-to-telephone and Skype-to-Skype calls are usually good quality, so my Internet connection should not be influencing this issue.
I would also like to contact Skype directly about this issue. If anyone knows how, please let me know.

  • Purchased online number is not working

I recently renewed a year subscription to my online number, but when I make calls the number is not showing up. It is showing up an either an unknown number or a 661 number. Also, I cannot receive calls either. This is extremely frustrating because I am from the USA, but I am currently living in another country and this is my sole communication to my family and friends in America. Can someone please assist me in alleviating this problem. Is there someone I can personally talk with from Skype over the phone, rather than this message board?

Online Number enables you to receive calls, but it doesn't include outgoing calls: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA331/What-is-an-Online-Number
If you wish to forward incoming calls to mobile numbers then you also need Skype Credit or a subscription.
    Subscriptions: http://www.skype.com/go/subscriptions
With Skype Credit you will be charged based on these rates: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/prices/payg-rates/
Important: If you decide to purchase a subscription then make sure you choose the one that includes mobile numbers and if you purchase subscription first then on Online Number payment you will get discount. (3months 33% and 12months 50%)

I am looking to buy the Freetalk Connect Me adaptar for my phone so I can call people I know on an ordinary phone. If I buy the hardware that comes with the year subscription for unlimited calls to US/Canada, do I also have to buy an online number to use it?

  • Skype-to-go and Online Number

    Hi,
I am an American graduate student who will be living in Canada for a year.  I plan on purchasing a Canadian cell phone plan but would still like to be able to call and be called easily by my family and friends in the states.  I was considering purchasing both a skype-to-go plan to call people in the US and getting an online number so that people in the US could call me for free (as well as an unlimited us/Canada plan).  Would this work, as long as I get a mobile plan with a lot of minutes, or would there be additional/roaming fees? I know that Skype-to-Skype would also be possible but, I'm not sure that I'll have a data plan.
    Thanks!

What you outline is good, stuff you can use Skype for. There is a sequence you would want to follow, which will help you save a little $$$ in the process.
First thing you should probably do is get your Unlimited USA & Canada subscription.  This covers calling to landlines and mobile phones in both countries at US$ 2.99/month.  If purchased on a yearly basis, you get a 15% discount, knocking the price down to just over US$ 30/year.  Once you have this, you will be able to make calls from Skype to landline and mobile phones in both countries, and use this to cover the calls forwarded from Skype to your Canadian number.
Once you have the subscription, purchase the US Online Number.  Ideally, you should get it in the same city as the people who would call you most, trying to make the call for them a free local call.  Skype does not have Online Numbers in all 50 US states and not in all US area codes, so take a look at what's there.  Even if you can't get a number in the same city as your friends and family, at least it would be a domestic long-distance call instead of making them call a Canadian number at international rates from the USA.  With the subscription, you can get a 50% discount on the price of the Online Number.  For a year, that makes the Online Number US$ 30.  Not a bad deal. You would not be charged by Skype to receive calls on the Online Number.  With the subscription as outlined above, you can forward calls to any number covered by your subscription (in Canada or the USA) for no additional charges from Skype.
Then get the Skype To Go number.  You may be able to get the number so it is a local call for you wherever you are going to be in Canada.  Be very careful about the city and area code/prefix combination for the Skype To Go number, as this could be a long-distance call for you.  Using the mobile phone, those calls may be covered by your mobile plan.  Not all calls to all area codes for a particular Canadian city may be considered as free local calls. You can then set up Skype To Go to remember your Canadian number, so you don't have to enter a PIN code every time you call the Skype To Go number to make calls.  These calls would either be covered by your subscription (free calling to US and Canadian numbers), or require Skype Credit if calling somewhere not covered by the subscription.
You will have to consult with your mobile carrier on the particulars for receiving calls.  Some plans may give you unlimited incoming calls, where others will allow you a specified number of minutes per month.  The cheapest monthly plans will probably charge you some amount per minute for incoming calls.  All of this is outside of Skype's control, so make sure you're set up for this and know what you're getting from the mobile carrier.
As you stated, you will need to have some sort of data plan if you intended to use the Skype app on your mobile phone in Canada, and use the mobile network as your Internet connection.  If you have access to WiFi, that would take care of the Internet access, but do make sure of what you get from the mobile carrier.  Chances are good that you won't have an "unlimited" data plan option from the Canadian carrier, just like how the US mobile carriers are going now, so make sure of whatever you are getting in this regard.
On a past trip to western Canada a couple of years ago, I did a similar thing as you are going to do. I already had a US Online Number and a subscription covering calls to the US, and obtained a Vancouver Skype To Go number so I could access Skype from Canada when not on the Internet.  I purchased a Rogers Wireless prepaid SIM in Vancouver with a Vancouver number which had an optional data plan (paid per day), so I could avoid roaming charges from my US mobile carrier.  I set up Skype to forward calls to the Canadian number while I was in Canada, so callers to my US Online Number didn't have to change anything they did to reach me.  Whenever I called back to the US, I rang my Vancouver Skype To Go number, then made the cross-border calls using Skype (covered by my subscription).  I saved a lot of $$$, compared to using my US mobile number in Canada and getting clobbered by roaming fees.  I ended up only using Skype when on WiFi, instead of paying for that optional data plan on the prepaid Canadian SIM. It takes some thought and work to set up, but it was worth it.
    Good luck!
