Re-organizing internal wiki-site

We have used wikis a couple of years now. In december we upgraded to Snow Leopard. Part from some details everything works great. So now we want to make what we think is full use of collaboration and wiki functionality. We are organized in sales projects and departments. I would like to create work groups for these groups so that they can have their own group homes and also their own wiki-sites. So far so good.
But this is enabled by functionality in Snow Leopard. Some information which now would be dealt with in individual wikis are in our old wiki. Now we need to move these pages (with complete history!!!) into each new wiki. But how?

You can just delete the LR data base in the Lightroom. Perhaps you could just move it to some other folder just in case you change your mind. When you do that LR will give you a choice of creating a new one or restore another. I learned this through experience of having to do it when I corrupted the data base.

International Wikis (2010 edition)

So, there were some discussion about how to handle internationalization in the past. Some things have changed and we have a lot more experience. So I think it's worth to review the situation and our plans.
We finally have a simple but well working interwiki implementation; the same that is sued for wikipedia. (see http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17580) There is no automation or checking so far; but usage is quite straight forward. I would propose the following:
* An english article links to several international articles. E.g.: [[de:Pacman]], [[pl:Pacman]]
(note that the title of the target wiki has to be used here)
* The localized wiki article will link to the english site only ([[en:Pacman]])
* Non-English articles on wiki.archlinux.org have to be merged/moved to their international wikis if that ist available.
Don't forget to empty the article (including all category references and i18n templates) here and add a redirect like
#REDIRECT [[de:Pacman]] (note: has to be in first line)
* To move complete articles export it including its history and import it again on the target wiki. (you'll need admin
permission on the target wiki)
This is quite some work, but should be doable with the help of the community.
I know that this also implies that the "separate wiki for each language" approach is the preferred one. This also would make some of the work that was put into the i18n template stuff obsolete as this is provided by the wiki software itself now. (it will generate a "other languages" menu automatically etc.)
I hope you guys don't mind that much and see the benefits; especially in long term. I don't want to force it for every language though but suggest to join this wagon. If needed I could provide help for international communities to setup their local wiki. In fact it would be best if we all use the same setup: http://projects.archlinux.org/vhosts/wi … x.org.git/
This would also make administration of the english wiki easier and improves the search a lot which finds a lot of foreign language duplicates atm.

We can start by moving the Swedish articles.
I guess the long-term solution would be separate local wikis per language hosted by the same people hosting the main wiki. Three drawbacks with local wikis are that you would need to register separate accounts to edit different wikis, it’s harder to handle spam if the localized wikis don’t have users patrolling them regularly and you don’t move user accounts. I don’t think those drawbacks should stop us from cleaning up the main namespace, but maybe there are other solutions apart from hosting multiple wikis I haven’t considered.
Is it possible to get a Swedish wiki running at a sub-domain of archlinux.org with interwiki links set up to and from the English wiki? Preferably updating the MediaWiki software would not be handled on a per-wiki basis because rarely used languages would soon use older versions. All wikis should be upgraded at the same time and use the same configuration.
In the Swedish pages links pointing to the English articles would break after a move. The solution I prefer is using redirect pages. That way, if you create a Swedish pacman pag,e you don’t have to modify any links in other pages.
The work flow would be:
Set up localized wiki.
Update interwiki settings.
Leave a message on the talk page of a couple of contributors of the localized pages.
Move page (using transwiki importing).
If needed clean up links by adding redirects back to the English main wiki.
Update interwiki links to and from the English wiki.
Repeat step 3-6 for all pages.
(Optional) Translate page titles to localized versions.
Repeat step 1-8 for each language.
Does that sound about right? I can set up a wiki page for coordination if this is the way to go.

How can I allow users to view any Wiki Pages inside my enterprise wiki site collection, as PDF files

We are working on an enterprise wiki site collection, and users start adding wiki pages and link them together. But a new requirement was raised by the customer, to allow users to be able to convert any wiki page to pdf file and save the pdf file to their
local PCs. They are suggesting to add a link or an option inside the upper ribbon , named “Make as PDF”, and once clicked they can view the current wiki as a pdf file.
Not sure what are the capabilities of SharePoint 2013 to do so ? and is there any third paryt tools that allow doing similar tasks ?

If you want to save as PDF, could you not use a PDF printer, so the procedure would be to 'Print this page' and the user then selects their PDF printer and where they want to save the file.
but in this way the user will have the page header footer, left navigation included in the pdf file. while i want to extract the body only. i so not think you apprach will work for my requirements

How do i edit the links in the top nav bar on an enterprise wiki site?

I would like to edit and change the links in the top nav bar on my enterprise wiki.
Currently the links are "About this wiki" and "Recent" a drop down menu with links.
I would like to change "About this wiki" to a "Home" page link and remove the "Recent" drop down menu and links. I also would like to be able to add more links to the to the top nav bar.
I there anyway I can do this one an enterprise wiki site?

I try to reproduce the issue, however, my enterprise wiki site don’t have the drop down menu.
How did you add the Recent link?
How did you create the drop down menu?
Did you use the seattle master page or olso master page?
It will be better if you can descript more detail and provide some screenshots.
You can use JavaScript to add and remove the items in the drop down menu.

Creating new Enterprise wiki site collection or creating a new subsite, or creating a new library

I have SharePoint 2013 web application, which has enterprise wiki site collection for our finance department. Now I need to create a new site for our HR department.
The two sites will differ in the following:-
Each department have different permission. For example each department have different users for who can approve, edit/create.
Each department will use different EnterpriseWiki page layout. As each department will have different wiki category columns (different site columns).
Also each department will use different metadata navigation.
The two sites will have the following in common:-
The same master page. Seatle.html.
So I can not determine which approach I should follow:-
To create a new enterprise wiki site collection for our HR department.
Create a new enterprise wiki library inside the current site collection representing the HR enterprise wiki.
To create a new subsite ?

Given that each will have different permissions I would go with a separate site collection. That will provide the best security basis. You could do it with a sub site, but it will be easier to maintain the security as a separate site
collection.

Yes i know that having different permission & different page layouts will push toward creating separate site collections. but i found a major linking problem when using different site collections (i mean adding links which reference other site collections
pages), let take the following example:-
1. I have Site collection A & site collection B.
2. now inside SCA i create a new wiki page named "Test.aspx" page.
3. then inside SCA i add a link to this wiki page from another wiki page.
4. also inside SCB i also add a link to the Test.aspx page.
After that let say i modify the Test.asxp page name & title to be "NewTest.aspx" , which will affect the page URL which will be
http:.../NewTest.aspx/ instead of
http.../Test.aspx/. now inside SCA all the links to the old Test.aspx page will automatically updated to reference the NewTest.aspx so that the links will not break. but inside SCB pages, the links will not be modified and will keep referencing Test.asxp
which no more exists ... so can you advice please if there is a way to overcome this problem , and if i create sub-site representing Site collection B will this solve the problem ?

Cannot select 'settings' of my own wiki site

Maybe someone can me help with this:
After setting up and running my own wiki site with OSX Server 10.6.2 and a new wiki (I'm the admin, i have alle rights to read and write etc.), I could access all settings in the first place. After filling content into the wiki I wanted to change the settings again, but now I cannot access the different tabs of the /wikiname/settings anymore. I see all the tabs, but i can't select them (no update in my browser, after selection the tab).
I recognized the same behavior with a newly created wiki. Can I reset all settings to "default values" by command line, to figure out, which of the settings lead to this?

I found the settings in /Library/Collaboration/Groups/<NameOfWiki>/metadata.plist.
After I deleted the users, who have write access to the wiki (had to delete all of them in this file), I have access to all settings through the wiki settings in my browser again. Very strange!

Username changed, now can't login to wiki site

We have our 10.9 server bind via dual directory. Recently a user got married and we changed their username in AD. This shows up in the server app as the married name and everything looks fine. The problem is the person can no longer login to wiki site. They get the incorrect username or password error. They can not login with their old username either. Has anyone run into this?

Internally hosted sites slow to load through proxy...

Hi Everyone,
We're having some issues with internally hosted sites and apps loading slowly while on the internal network. We host a Moodle site, a Joomla site, an Exchange 2007 mail server (sorry, no more GW), and a Senior Systems server. All of these, except for the Joomla site, have an SSL cert from either GoDaddy or Verasign. If you're outside of our network the sites load just fine.
We're running a Netware 6.5 SP2 box with BM 3.8 on it and use the proxy. We use both IE 8 and Firefox (from 3.0 to 3.6) with either manual proxy settings with exemptions for the above sites, or a PAC file with the same exemptions. I don't believe the PAC file is the issue as the slowness still happens when configuring the proxy manually within the browsers. When a user tries to go to one of the above sites while on our network, the pages won't load for around 5-10 seconds. The browser will say it's connected to the site, but it just sits - and then the page will just pop into place. The Senior Systems server is particularly bad, as at times only the background color loads and a few minutes later the login box will load.
We have our DNS and DHCP servers running on Windows Server 2003 boxes.

otherwise i do not understand why bm is on blame of the slowness. As
logn as you do not use the proxy, bm is not involved.
Best approach will be to take a lan trace and see where the delay happens.

Metadata Navigation Tree View in Quick Launch for Wiki Site

I have successfully enabled managed metadata navigation for an Enterprise Wiki Site. When new pages are created they get created in the term set and I have have organised them into a hierarchy that I want.
I would really like the quick launch to show a tree view of that managed metadata navigation hierarchy.
How could I achieve this? Would this require a completely custom SiteMapProvider along with some jQuery or similar to render the tree view?
Alternatively I am happy only showing a few levels of hierarchy with the OOTB quick launch, but I need to show the parent node for any given page I am on, to assist users navigating backup up. What control could I add just above the quick launch to show
the parent node?

My wiki site stopped showing images. How do I fix this

I spent a lot of time setting up our wiki everything was working perfectly. Then out of the blue all of the images just stopped displaying I am also unable to add any new images. There are no errors on screen, nothing shows up in the logs, and a fix permissions does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Just in case anybody runs into this, I found the solution. If anybody knows of a better way I am all ears. I have a Mac Mini with 128 SSD I was concerned about space so attached an external 1TB Thunderbolt HD. Its fast it works fine. I used the server console to redirect my Service Data to that external drive. It has worked flawlessly for about four months. I am not sure what changed, but any attachments or images associated with the wiki site stopped working. I fixed it by:
backing up my server directory
redirecting the Server data to the original hard drive. Under the Server Manager (Your Computer Name) -> Settings Tab -> Service Data
removing the old Server data from the external hard drive. Stored in /Library/Server
redirecting the Server data back to the external hard drive. Under the Server Manager (Your Computer Name) -> Settings Tab -> Service Data
Apparently the utility is smart enough to copy the files and reassociate any paths required. If there is a repair utility capable of repairing the directory as is and I just missed it I would love to know.

Providing a PS link to an internal Careers Site

Our functional staff has requested that the HCM navigational links to Career (“Root > Careers” and “Root >Self Service >Recruiting Activities > Careers”) access the Internal link created in the Careers Site Setup. This url is similar to the following:

When I access the URL I get a "You are not authorized to access this component" message. (I do have security)
Is it possible to create a PeopleSoft content reference that points to the Careers Site Internal URL and if so, how is it done?
Our Content reference is set up as Non-PeopleSoft URL but I have also tried PeopleSoft Generic URL and Worklist URL with the link defined above. Each URL type had a different error message and none were successful.

I believe that I just solved this question. I changed the link back to a PeopleSoft Component adding the Career's component parameters for Menu, Market, and Component. Then, in order to link to a specific page I added query string parameters to the Additional Parameters field. In my case I added "Page=HRS_CE_HM_PRE&Action=A&SiteId=1400". This allows me to link to the specific page and the security is carried forward. I'm still testing but so far this appears to be a working resolution.

Unable to connect to internal SSL sites with unknown CA's after 36.0 update.

Last week my browser auto-updated to version 36.0 and I am now no longer able to connect to certain internal corporate websites. These sites either have self-signed certs, or certs signed by an internal CA. They do not use certs signed by publicly known "trusted" CA's.
For example, one of the errors that I receive is below:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to [HOST]:[PORT]. SSL peer rejected a handshake message for unacceptable content. (Error code: ssl_error_illegal_parameter_alert)
Although a warning message is received in IE or Chrome we are given the option to proceed and the site opens correctly, despite those browsers also indicating that the servers cert is not trusted.
I have added the internal CA's cert to the Authorities tab in the Firefox Certificate Manager, but am still not able to connect to the internal site.
Firefox allows me to accept some incorrect certs (or at least it did in the past), why is this not the default behavior with *all* certificate related problems? I realize that there are malicious sites out there, but there are also internal ones that are being blocked as well. Is there a config option that can be set so a user is prompted for all cert errors and they can decide to proceed if desired instead of just being blocked from the site? I understand blocking by default, but there also needs to be a way to proceed for advanced users.
Are there any configuration options to loosen the cert standards for sites? All other sites seem to load properly and otherwise there are no problems with the browser.

I had already set the tls.security.version.min to 0, so would have expected to be able to connect.
At this point it seems like the problem is that we are using an internal CA to sign the cert for this server, but Firefox won't allow me to proceed despite this. Is there an option that I can set to have firefox prompt on all certificate issues and give me the option to proceed anyways?
Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Coldfusion Internal Web Site Overriding IIS Web Site

We have CF 10 Enterprise installed on Window Server 2008 R2, using IIS with multiple web sites defined. These are set up in IIS in the standard way of mapping a domain name to an IP address. The sites are pointed to various directories on the D drive and CF is installed on the C drive. What is happening is that occasionally a call to a CFM script will error out, and in the CF log it shows that the file wasn't found because CF was looking for it in C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\wwwroot instead of in the correct directory on the D drive. I did some testing by adding an index.cfm to C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\wwwroot and I found that file overrides the index.cfm in the root of the site in IIS. How can I get this resolved so that the CF web site is not interfering with my IIS web sites?

We don't have anything in the internal webroot except what CF put there. I added the index.cfm to test and then removed it. But we still get situations where scripts on our site aren't found and the CF error log shows that it was looking in C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\wwwroot instead of the root of the web site as set in IIS, like the message below.
