Re-registering comctl32.dll on Windows 8.1

I was advised to re-register the common control after upgrading both my OS (to Win 8.1) and MS Access (to 2013). Events that worked on Win 7 and Access 2010 no longer appear in the development environment or fire when the app is run.
(See: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6e9e3b61-f55e-42b0-be9e-9c5a0a1511f4/changes-to-treectrl-events-from-access-2010-to-2013?forum=accessdev)
However, I count six files named comctl32.dll in as many directories on my computer. I am not sure which to unregister before registering the one in SysWOW64. I'm worried that unregistering all of them and re-registering only one might mess something up.
Also, I'm not entirely certain it will fix the problem since Win 8.1 and Access 2013 are new, fresh installs. It should, as my previous answerer said, just work. It don't. ;)
Thank you.

Copy the one with the highest version to syswow64, then register it from a command prompt with elevated permissions.

  • Adobe reader error - Faulty module: Comctl32.dll

Adobe reader error - Faulty module:  Comctl32.dll
Running Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1.
Computer is ACER Aspire -4830TG laptop, with 8GB RAM, i5-2430M intel processor.
Not sure when this happened, but am unable to open Adobe Reader 10.  Error indicates the fault module to be Comctl32.dll, specifically,
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_n one_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\Comctl32.dll
    Size is 619KB
Reader will initialize, but blank out and freeze as soon as it attempts to do anything, including displaying a menu bar.  I have reinstalled Reader several times and have removed it first.  It appears that the issue is really the Comctl32.dll file.  There are so many versions on my system can't figure out how to tell if it is corrupt.
    Virus scan shows no risks.
Unable to rollback far enough to make a difference.

  • Can't register CR XI runtime Dlls in Windows 7

    Hi master,
I develop the application using Delphi 7 and CR XI developer edition, and deploy the application into WinXP, all things work fine, but when I test in Windows 7, when I install the application, it raised error u201C...Business Objects\bin\objectfactory.dll, unable to register the dll/ocx: Regsrv32 failed with exit code 0x3.u201D, also including other dlls: prompt.dll, saxserialize.dll, crlov.dll, crqe.dll, crtslv.dll, datadefmodel.dll, exportmodeller.dll.
However, when I try to install CR XI developer edition into the win 7 environment, the error is disappear when installing my application again. I'm wondering if some other CR XI runtimie files must be included into my setup package file.
Ps: I didn't use the merge module to create the setup package, we don't have the installshield, and also the merge module size is a little big.
    Please help, thanks.

    Hello,
First we have never test CR XI on windows 7 and because CR XI is out of support life cycle we won't be.
Second, we don't have any info on how to distribute our runtime files without using the Merge Modules. You are obviously missing some runtime dependencies by not using the merge modules so either enable logging and manually create all of our registry keys and permissions as well as any third party dll's we require.
It may help if you download Orca from Microsoft's site and open the MSM's and see what we are doing and then attempt to duplicate what they are doing in your distribution routines.
When installing CR you can also enable logging and see what CR is installing.
CR 2008 has a smaller foot print but if you are using the RDC or VCL in your Delphi app then it won't work for you unless you upgrade to the .NET plug-in for Delphi. There latest version supports .NET
    Good luck

Lets see. I wrote the application. It's an application that receives audio data over a socket connection to a server. This happens seemingly randomly, no real pattern has yet emerged. Or at least none we've been able to discern from our testing and our user testing. The application rapidly plays audio chunks sent to it from the socket, so it's using the audio device heavily. It also runs for many days at a time without restarting. Normally used during regular business hours constantly (approx. 14 hours / day, 84 hours / week). We've had this problem for quite some time and it has persisted over various JVM upgrades.
    Thanks for the help

    }

  • Error registering crqe.dll

    Post Author: wkiess
    CA Forum: General
    Hi All,
I am working with VB6 SP6 and CR10 and have used the VB6 Package and Deployment Wizard to create a setup for my application. When running the setup in a WinXP VM, I got an error message towards the end of the installation which reads "An error has occurred registering file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Cyrstal decision\2.5\bin\crqe.dll". I retried a couple of times, gave up and skipped it. Then I received an error about a file not found ImagX7.dll (which I later checked it was actually there) and finally I received another registering error "An error occurred registering file C:\Windows\System32\Imagx7pr.dll". again I retried a couple of time and gave up and skipped it. The application appears to run ok, although I have not tired to execute a report (as there are database connectivity issues to be ironed out). I tried to register the dlls manually and got an "Access Denied" message.
Could the fact that I'm running in a VM be causing these issues? Is it a permissions/security problem? How do I covercome this problem?
Update: Just found the solution to the Imagx7.dll problem: As there was no dependency file for the Imagx7 control, the Imagx7.dll was not included in the package. Including the file has solved the errors associated with that file. Now only need to solve the crqe.dll not registering poblem...

  • JNI DLL on Windows XP crashes when lots of memory is available.

I'm using the RXTX COMM jar/DLL for Windows XP (replacement for javax.comm API) from:
    http://www.rxtx.org/
This uses JNI to talk to the Windows SerialPort/COM devices.
When I use the stock binaries from the developer (built with GCC 2.95), they seem to work in all situations I test them.
For a couple of reasons, I need to rebuild these libraries. I have a MinGW/MSYS environment with the current GCC release (gcc 3.4.2 (mingw-special)) and everything built fine with the provided makefiles.
However, when I run some small tests with the resulting dll's, I seem some really weird behavior when i vary the Xms and Xmx value. I'm using Sun's JVM, 1.5.0_07.
Using the default min/max: 2/64, everything works OK.
But If I use 32/128, I get a JVM crash.
If I set min/max to 128/128, it works.
If I set min/max to 128/129, it crashes.
It's almost as if when there is more memory available, then the JVM puts the DLL is put in a location that maybe is too "far" away. But AFAICT, there is no option to GCC for near/far calls on X86.
In any case, I'm hoping someone has seen something like this before.
    Thanks,
    Pete

FYI, here is the crash I get (hs_err_pid####.log)

  • Registering ODAC Dlls

    Hello everyone!
Normally before installing my app I install the ODTwithODAC112030. But I've just recently been able to get a hold of a registered copy of Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and was exploring the Setup Package. I came across the "Global Assembly Cache Folder" and was wondering if it is possible to just add the ODAC dlls on this folder and then free myself from Installing the ODTwithODAC112030 everytime I install an app. I tried it but i get this error:

Problem with acces to Oracle.DataAccess.dll in application folder
    Hello,
actual there are only 2 methods to install and register these DLLs. Xcopy and universal installer
Please read this thread for more information.
    Your Exception:
I got the same message. I tried to place the DataAcess Dll into the application folder and removed them from GAC. This does not work. It seems that they need some underlying non managed Dlls and cannot access them in this way.
    regards Ellen

  • The program can't start because COMCTL32.dll is missing from your computer

the program can't start because COMCTL32.dll is missing from your computer

That is an operating system file; try running the System File Checker
    sfc /scannow
You may need your original Windows install disk during the process.

  • Register a DLL? or some other problem?

I have an app written in C# that I have copied out to several 32 bit machines. It works fine. We just started rolling out some 64 bit machines. I installed sql developer on that machine and we struggled a bit, but finally got it working fine. Then, I installed my app. When it runs, and tries to connect to Oracle, the error is "Type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection' threw an exception.
I am wondering if I need to register a dll? If so, I don't know which one? We have tried updating everything we could find. All machines have .NET 4.5 running. I think I need to hook Oracle to Windows?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

It'd be helpful to know what the exception being thrown is (would be the InnerException of the one you're catching), but it's most likely a problem with the bit-ness of the application. If the compiler is set to AnyCPU (and it is by default), on the 64 bit machine you'll need a 64 bit version of the Oracle client. If you set it to x86, then you'll need a 32 bit Oracle client on all the machines (including the 64 bit ones).
Just registering a DLL won't be enough to solve this unless you're using the managed client beta, in which case you could do that or add the necessary entries into the app config file (and not have to register anything).

Because your software is far too old for Windows 7.

  • SAP GUI Error - (GSS-APP DLL) on Windows Vista!

    Hi All
I am getting an error when setting up SAP GUI version 710 on Windows Vista.
When I try to set up an snc logon i get the following message:
Unable to load the  GSS-API DLL named 'sncgss32.dll'
On Windows XP we have a GSSAPI32.DLL in the C drive and all is ok?
    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Phil

The following is working on Vista at a major client in DK. It is important to know wether you use a 32bit or 64bit Operating System. This example is with 32bit system.
Create a uservariable in MS Vista called SNC_LIB. Value is <drive>:\<path>\gsskrb5.dll
    example: SNC_LIB=c:\windows\system32\gsskrb5.dll
the file gsskrb5.dll should ofcourse be placed in the folder specified above. You can download the file from microsoft or from SAP (I think it can be found in a note)
The you setup your SAP environment to handle SSO with the same file in the serversetup - i recommend only to use the gsskrb5.dl file. Verify that the setup is correct on the server. If it is correct the SNC tab will exist on transaction SU01 and when you enter the correct value in the "SNC name" field the should pop up a green checkmark..
In the gui on the specific system you should enter the following value in the Secure Network setting "SAPService<system id>@<domain>".
It should work without problem.. If you have an older version of SAP you should perhaps try out the GSSNTLM.DLL file instead of GSSKRB5.DLL. That can sometimes help if it does not work.
    Best regards
    Klaus van Berkel

Nothing in the Acrobat 8.x product family is compatible with Windows 7 (or any contemporary OS).
The Acrobat 8.x product family passed into End of Support way back -- (November 2011).
The current release of Acrobat (XI) is compatible in Windows 7.
    Be well...
