RE: Statistics in the ORacle 10.2.0.4

Hello,
As we know we can gather the statistics of a table/schema throw the "DBMS_STATS" package, how to monitor(how much% has completed, timeelapsed, how much time remains) these kind of jobs.
I know about the below way, can we do it in beter way,
SQL> select sid,serial#,totalwork,sofar,units,start_time,time_remaining from v$SESSION_LONGOPS where opname='Gather Schema Statistics';
Thanks

  • Query Regd the Oracle Statistics and BRCONNECT

    Guys
How does the BRCONNECT works while collecting the optimizer statistics for the below case
    Case1
If I l set stats_sample_size=P3 in the init<sid>.sap ,will the Statistics will be collected with the sample size P3 for all the tables ?
or  The statistics will be collected as per the internel rules
or  the statistics will be  collected with the combination of internel rules and stats_sample_size parameter.
our brconnect version is 7 and Pl is 32

    Hi,
    Interesting question.
Never before used the mentioned option but, as usual, the answer is on the [documentation|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/02/0ae0c0395911d5992200508b6b8b11/frameset.htm]
    > This parameter defines the sample size with the BRCONNECT update statistics function using method E for tables that are not specified in the DBSTATC  control table.
That means that none of your guesses is totally correct. your 3rd guess is the nearest to the correct answer

  • Gather Schema Statistics produces HUGE oracle trace file

    Hi
I am running gather schema stats on my E-Biz 12.1.3 / 11.2.0.3 system
Each week we run Gather Schema Stats
I have noticed that when the job completes a 3g trace fuile is produced under the Oracle RDBMS home
I have tried un-checking the box when the COnc Request is submitted to DO NOT SAVE OUTPUT FILE but it is still procuced.
I dont want it and do not understand why it is produced. Anyone out there have a resolution?

I have noticed that when the job completes a 3g trace fuile is produced under the Oracle RDBMS homeWhat is the file name/location? What is the contents of this trace file?
I have tried un-checking the box when the COnc Request is submitted to DO NOT SAVE OUTPUT FILE but it is still procuced.Do you have any debug/trace enabled on HRMS schema?
I dont want it and do not understand why it is produced. Anyone out there have a resolution? Was this working before? If yes, any changes been done since then?
What are the parameters you use to run "Gather Schema Statistics" concurrent program?

  • Gather Schema Statistics improve the performance of the R12 application?

    Hi All,
If we run “Gather Schema Statistics” program, it will improve the performance of the R12 application?
Platform Linux and DB version 10.2.0.4.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Tharun

    Hi Tharun,
If we ruer n “Gather Schema Statistics” program, it will improve the performance of the R12 application?
Yes, it will speed up as it ensures to have an up to date statistics.
    Please refer notes:
Concurrent Processing - How To Gather Statistics On Oracle Applications Release 11i and/or Release 12 - Concurrent Process,Temp Tables, Manually [ID 419728.1]
How Often Should Gather Schema Statistics Program be Run? [ID 168136.1]
    Why Stats Gather?
Stats gathering must be set as a routine job and is recommended to be scheduled. Even though this program is available from the fronted in the form of submitting a concurrent program basically it performs a DB level enhancement and ensures that you have an up to date optimizer statistics.Because the objects in a database can be constantly changing, statistics must be regularly updated so that they accurately describe these database objects.
For indepth understand as to why it should be run, please refer doc:
    Managing Optimizer Statistics

  • Database slow; How to check the Oracle query timings

    Hi,
I have a quick question regarding a troubleshooting iam currently working on.
We have a J2EE application runnig on WLS 81 SP3.
We are experiencing a problem where the customer response time on our application is "too slow". We checked our N/W and they seems to be OK. The Iplanet webserver and BEA application servers looks good but on the Oracle database box - i saw "iowait" (when doing top UNIX command) to be 50-60 % which is extremly high. We are suspecting this to be our issue as the "iowait" is very high at the DATABASE box hence causing BEA servers to show "slow response" on certain pages which are database accentric.
Now, in order to proove that the queries are taking "too longer" to execute from the time BEA server requested and it actually got the reply back from database, i need to dig down and get some "profiling" (due to some political reasons, i can request to turn on profling at the moment) done. So, is there any way i can verify the response time when the BEA server requested some information from the database and the time when Oracle database responded with all the information requested ?
    thanks for your help,

Yes. Create a Date object prior to the database call. Then create another one when the call completes. Convert both to mililseconds and subtract. You will have network latency in that statistic, but especially if you are using connection pools, the vast majority should be database access.
Another option is to turn on tk_prof or create an EXPLAIN plan table in Oracle. That will show the 'cost' of each query. Also, try running statistics on the database, that should help the optimizer.

  • About gather statistics - ANALYZE on Oracle views

    Oracle® Database Reference
    11g Release 1 (11.1)
    Part Number B28320-01
ALL_TABLES describes the relational tables accessible to the current user. To gather statistics for this view, use the ANALYZE SQL statement.
Columns marked with an asterisk (*) are populated only if you collect statistics on the table with the ANALYZE statement or the DBMS_STATS package
I thought ANALYZE command shouldn't be used to gather stats, as it explained as well on the ANALYZE command description.
Furthermore, explanations on how the columns should be populated are not clear enough. Maybe my english level is too low, but it seems we have to run any thing on the view itself.
    Same for ALL_INDEXES.
    Nicolas.

Hi Nicolas. You're right that we recommend using DBMS_STATS for most statistics-gathering purposes. I'll pass this along to the writer who manages the Database Reference, to see that it gets updated. I'll also ask him to check the clarity of the column descriptions.

  • Use DB13 to update statistics on nonSAP Oracle schema

    Hello,
We are using an nonSAP Oracle-schema (S87CMG_O) on our SAP-server and i would like to update the statistics
for the tables of the nonSAP Oracle-schema with DB13.
As parameter i start the job with the tablespace-name CMG
    In the joblog i see
    BR0813I Schema owners found in database S87: SAPSR3*, SAPSR3DB%
Problem is that DB13 is not processing the nonSAP Oracle-schema (S87CMG_O).
Where can i add or configure the name of the nonSAP Oracle-schema (S87CMG_O) so that DB13 will process this schema-owner in the future ?
    Regards,
    Ronald

    Have a thorough reading of [320457 - Installing BR tools on a non-ABAP database|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/320457]
You can also try the -o option of brconnect:
    orasid> brconnect -u / -f stats -o S87CMG_O
    Cheers Michael
EDIT: it might very well be, that as soon you have an ABAP schema (-> MLICHECK or SAPLIKEY table) you cannot gather stats on non-SAP schemas anymore. This is for license reasons...

    Hi,
It seems that your configuration is Ok. By the way, the workaround for this error is:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Transparent gateway for ODBC][H001] The environment variable <HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO> is not set.
    * Set HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO in the hs{sid}init.ora file to the data source name.
    Example: HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = <ODBC DataSource Name>
    * Make sure the hs{sid}init.ora file exists in the ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin directory and has the same name as the SID in the LISTENER.ORA.
Example: If SID=hsodbc in the listener.ora file, then the hs{sid}init.ora file would be named ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/inithsodbc.ora

  • Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation

Weaknesses I've come across in the Oracle XML/XSL implementation
NOTE: I think Oracle is a fantastic database and the XML implementation is lovely to use - also I know these are not limited to XE and also that some are fixed in 11g enterprise however I'm not sure if all are so I am posting here in the hope that Oracle will include fixes for all if any have been missed
    1. getclobval() returns a spurious carriage return on end of the value returned
    2. extract does not handle mixed content tags well (for example it simply discards tags that only have whitespace between them
    3. XSL: using a xsl:number level="multiple" with anything beyond a simple count= xpath value crashes the database completely
    4. XSL: insists on pretty printing output XML which is extremely odd behaviour and causes problems when dealing with mixed content

Another weakness I've seen is with the appendchildxml function and mixed content xml - it appears to likewise pretty print XML causing the injection of carriage returns and whitespace into mixed content nodes

  • Not able to access the Oracle I/PM web client.

I have started the Administration server and the Oracle I/PM Managed Server. Now I'm trying to access the Oracle I/PM web client at this URL: http://hostname:16000/imaging. But when I hit this URL, the following error comes up:
    Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
I'm also posting a part of the logs from the IPM_server log file:

    Hi Srinath,
I have checked that as well, it is showing the IPM_server in running mode.
Also it doesn't show any deployment failure in the command line. Here is what it shows:
    <May 20, 2013 10:32:51 AM IST> <Notice> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000332> <Started W
ebLogic Managed Server "IPM_server1" for domain "base_domain123" running in Deve

    <May 20, 2013 10:32:52 AM IST> <Notice> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000360> <Server st
    arted in RUNNING mode>
I feel there is some issue as this log is suggesting:
    ####<May 20, 2013 10:32:53 AM IST> <Info> <WebService> <01hw311161> <IPM_server1> <[STANDBY] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<anonymous>> <> <> <1369026173782> <BEA-220103> <Async web service support is not fully configured. But I don't know how to resolve it.

  • Why the default value is not the Oracle recommended?

Why the default value is not the Oracle recommended?
In Oracle 10g, the default alocated unit of Oracle ASM is 1MB. But the Oracle ducumentation states that "To ensure a higher probability of one
logical I/O resulting in no more than one physical I/O, the minimum stripe depth should be at least twice the Oracle block size". ---See Performance Tuniing Guide (10g10.2 Page8-3.
It's inconsistent. What is right way?

The default database blocksize of 10g is 8k.

    128 >= 2
At least twice the size does not mean exactly the doubled size.
There is no contradiction between the documentation and your observation in this case.
    Kind regards

  • How do I use the Oracle Developer Reporting Control in Visual Basic 6.0?

I was wondering how to use the Oracle Developer Reporting Control componant in Visual Basic 6.0 to generate reports in Oracle Reports? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Rohit,
Would like to ask you some questions about the oracle report with Visual Basic.
    1. I have a report built in oracle report. Currently there is a Visual Basic program want to pass some parameter to this report. Can Visual Basic program pass the parameter to this oracel report?
    2. Based on yr answer, do i have to installed the oracle report? or just copy and register the Rwsxa60.ocx (i'm using oracle report 6i) in the PC? So can i use this activeX control.
    3. Is this activeX control similar to Crystal report object which can found in VB?
    4. Is there an example/guide on how the Visual Basic pass the parameter to oracel form?
Your answer will be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
