Re: Virtual File System and NCP Shares

I can confirm that VFS does not work on NCP volumes. In fact an admin volume
is not created without NSS.
I'm using the X-plat APIs to manage trustees on NCP volumes.

with fuse you can do that i think.
but I take it your thing is not posix compliant? aren't there enough fs'es already you could use instead? or do you mostly want to learn? in that case it's cool

  • OES11 SP2 - Linux File System and NSS Pools & Volumes

Planning to install our first OES11 SP2 server into an existing tree - the
idea is to run this new OES11 server virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5
The existing tree has two physical NW6.5SP8 servers running eDirectory
Version 8.7.3.10b (NDS Version 10554.64). One of the existing Netware
servers is used for DHCP/DNS, File Sharing from three NSS volumes and
Groupwise 7.0.4 whilst the second server is used for FTP services and
eDirectory redundancy. Ultimately the plan is to have two virtualized OES11
SP2 server with one for file sharing and the other for making the move from
GW7 to GW2012. And we're planning to stick with NSS for file sharing on the
    new OES11 SP2 server.
I've come across a couple of posts for earlier versions of OES which
recommended not to put the Linux Native OS File System and NSS storage
pools/volumes on the same hard drive. Apparently the advice was a result of
needing to allow EVMS to manage the drive which could be problemmatic.
I've read the OES11 documentation which says that "The Enterprise Volume
Management System (EVMS) has been deprecated in SLES 11, and is also
deprecated in OES 11. Novell Linux Volume Manager (NLVM) replaces EVMS for
managing NetWare partitions under Novell Storage Services (NSS) pools."
So I'm wondering if there is still a compelling requirement to keep the
Linux Native File System and NSS pools/volumes on separate hard drives or
can they both now safely co-exist on the same drive without causing
headaches or gotchas for the future?
    Neil

    Hi Willem,
Many thanks for the further reply.
So we can just use the VMWare setup to "split" the one physical drive into
two virtual drives (one for the OS and the second for the pools).
And I've seen posts in other forums about the need for a decent battery
backed cache module for the P410i controller so I'll make sure we get one
    (probably 512Mb module + battery).
Can I ask what is the advantage of configuring each VM's virtual disk to run
on it's own virtual SCSI adapter (by setting disk1 to scsi 0:0, disk2 to
    scsi 1:0, and so on)?
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • Solaris Virtual File System

Have Solaris virtual file system been changed since Solaris 2.5.1? How much?

AFAIK, the VFS is not an official (and documented) interface
and may change from solaris release to solaris release
(perhaps even with a new kernel patch).
Other, you can probably get the Solaris 8 Foundation Source,
and use it as the definitive reference documentation ;-)

  • Solaris File System/ Virtual File system Documentation

can anybody help me in finding solaris virtual file system documentaion/books ?

  • Patch Fails: 119907-13 Gnome 2.6.0_x86: Virtual File System Framework patch

When I try to use my Sun(TM)Update Manager, I get:
119907-13 Gnome 2.6.0_x86: Virtual File System Framework patch Failed.
Utility used to install the update failed with exit code 997. Patch is not available in the patch directory.
It is the only patch left to be installed and I tried rebooting several times with no luck. There is no 119907-13 directory or 119907-13.jar in my /var/sadm/spool either. Thanks for any hints.

    Thanks.
I have the free version of Solaris for the x86/x64 platform on my workstation at home. I did register the OS when I installed it, but I do not have a support contract.
I am curious as to why this has never been an issue before with the hundreds of patches I've installed previously.
If I do not wish to purchase a support contract, there ought to be a way to get the patch out of my Sun(TM) Update Manager so that the green indicator in my
    systray doesn't drive me nuts.
Thanks for your help and any further suggestions.

  • Commons Virtual File System

    Commons Virtual File System
Commons VFS provides a single API for accessing various different file systems. It presents a uniform view of the files from various different sources, such as the files on local disk, on an HTTP server, or inside a Zip archive.
    here is the link

vfs_freevfs is callback which gets called when a file system is unmounted to release (free up) the resources held by the file system.

LR2 perspective: the number of files that have virtual copies, how many total virtual copies total, how many photos are in stacks, how many stacks, etc.

No, you can't specify an entire filesystem as something to cluster. I
suggest using NFS or some shared filesystem and then running a cluster
              off of that.

  • Shared file system and other questions

    Hi,
Is shared file system common for all WL in the cluster or each WL has its
              own one.
Next questin is connected with proxy server.
I'm not sure if there should be one proxy server for two servers working in
one cluster or each server should has own proxy server (I mean WL proxy
              server).???
In my opinion there should be one proxy server which redirect requests to
server in cluster using some balancing method. But when I read documentation
about cluster's architectures I saw the picture where each WL cluster server
had proxy own server. I'm not sure if this picture showed only outline of
architecture or it was real solution???
Is it better to install another proxy server (for example Apache) than WL
              proxy server?
In previous questions I asked if it is possible to replic static classes,
fields etc. Prasad Peddada told that it is not replicated. But I wonder if
there exists some method to force replicating it.? Maybe we can implement
              some method and run it?
              Thanks,
              Best regards,

    Mike.
In WLS51 cluster, it is better to specify different workingDir for each
server. You can create a weblogic.properties in your per-server directory
and add jspc properties in that file.

  • Image: display from local drive, upload to server file system, and display from server

    Hello,
    I am using jdev 11.1.2.4.0...
The requirement is that users would like to upload images from their local drive to server drive and they would like display images from server drive later.
We don't want to keep images in database. I am not sure what the solution should be; however, I plan to ....
    1. create a table to keep an information of images -- image_id, image_location (server drive), image_filename
    2. create a page where users can enter image information and specific filename from a local drive (I think I will use inputFile component) and provide the preview button to display an image on screen before save it. To save data is to save information to the database and copy an image file to the server drive (the destination location for image files is predefined.)
    3. create another page where users can browse information from the database and display an image for a selected record by getting from the server.
    I need suggestions on...
    1. how to display an image on page from the local drive?
    2. how to copy a file from a local drive to a server?
    3. how to display an image on page from the server drive?
    Thank you.

Where Timo saves images to the database, you save it to the file system (examples on how to do this from Java are available plenty if you just Google for it). Similar to Timo you then use the image tag to display images. The difference is that you can directly add the URL from the database table.
The benefit of using a database to host images is that you are not dependent on file server structures though

  • BIP and Siebel server - file system and load balancing question

    1. I just need to understand whenever the reports are generated through BIP, are there reports stored on some local directory (say Reports) on the BIP server or Siebel File system? If on a File system how will archiving policy be implemented.
    2. When we talk of load balancing BIP Server. Can the common load balancer be used for BIP and Siebel servers?

    Hi Sravanthi,
Please check the below for finding ITS and WAS parameters from backend :
For ITS - Go to SE37 >> Utilities >> Setting >> Click on ICON Right Top Corner in popup window >> Select Internet Transaction Server >> you will find the Standard Path and HTTP URL.
For WAS - Go to SE37 >> Run FM - RSBB_URL_PREFIX_GET >> Execute it >> you will find PRefix and PAth paramter for WAS.

  • Backup to file system and sbt_tape at the same time?

    hello!
is it possible to do a rman backup to disk and sbt_tape at the same time (just one backup, not two)? the reason is, that i want to copy the rman backup files from the local file system via robocopy to another server (in a different building), so that i can use them for fast restores in the case of a crash.
if not, what is the recommended strategy in this case? backups should be available on tape AND the file system of a different machine.
environment: oracle 10g, windows server 2008, commvault for backup on tape
    thanks for your advice.
    best regards,
    christian

If you manually copy backupsets out of the FRA to another location, but still accessible as "local disks", you can use the CATALOG command in RMAN to "catalog" the copies.
Thus, if you opy or move files from the FRA to /mybackups/MYDB, you would use
"CATALOG START WITH /mybackups/MYDB" or individually "CATALOG BACKUPPIECE /mybackups/MYDB/backuppiece_1" etc
Once you have moved or removed the backupsets out of the FRA, you must use
    "CROSSCHECK BACKUP"
    and
    "DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP"
to update the RMAN repository. Else, Oracle will continue to "account" for disks pace consumed by the BackupPieces in V$FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA_USAGE and will soon "run out of space".
You would do the same for ArchiveLogs (CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL; DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL) if your ArchiveLogs go to the FRA as USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST

  • Cluster file system and BDB - does it work ?

    Hi,
I've read in the reference guide that:
" No commercial remote filesystem of which we're aware supports
coherent, distributed shared memory for remote-mounted files"
What about cluster file systems like veritas cluster file system ?
Can I use this file system with BDB ?
I'm trying to find a solution for having one database visible from two computers.
Reader and writer exist on each machine. Any clue how to do that ?
    best regards

  • What is virtual file system in sharepoint, where are the site pages stored?

I came across this paragraph in Inside Microsoft SharePoint 2010; page 126 :-
When SharePoint Foundation provisions the Proposals document library,it creates a folder named Proposals at the root of the site and then it creates a child folder named Forms.
Inside the Forms folder, it creates a set of site pages with names such as DispForm.aspx, EditForm.aspx, AllItems.aspx, and Upload.aspx. The reason that SharePoint Foundation creates site pages inside the Forms folder for each
new list and document library is that these site pages will provide users with the forms they will use to add and manage content.
    My question is that:-
    1) What us the root of the site means?
    2) Are the pages for edit/add/allitems created in filesystem OR in the content database?
3)Suppose we create new sitepages, then where are they stored? In filesystem or in content db?

    Hi,
For All above queries the data and site pages are stored in content database
Root folder: A folder created for the document library under the web (sub site) and another folder created as child folder named Forms. Site pages are created in SharePoint content database
SitePages(Add/display/edit): These pages are created in SharePoint content database
Note: The SharePoint will not create any physical aspx page OR folder in the file system while creating document library.
    Hope this will help you.

    But the book mentions that:-
When SharePoint Foundation provisions the Proposals document library,it
creates a folder named Proposals at the root of the site and then it creates a child folder named Forms.
    Is
this wrong? Are the folders created in filesystem or content db? If the files are not supposed to go into the filesystem, then why are the folders created?
