Read only operation

For a read only operations , will it be a good idea if we convert existing DAO objects to Entities ?

DAO = Data Access Objects. ( through JDBC )
Entities = http://download.oracle.com/javaee/5/tutorial/doc/bnbqa.html
Just answer this for yourself: what benefit would it give me? If the answer is "well this and that", ask yourself this: >>What penalty would I get? • Is it possible to have a 10g (R1) LOGICAL standby db in read-ONLY mode?

    From what I've gathered reading the 10g (R 1) docs, the logical standby turns read-only when applying sql, and then in read-write mode otherwise. I have to meet a requirement that the remote database be strictly in read-only mode the entire time (so as to not risk writing to it), as well as being as up-to-date as possible off the primary. (Hence I decided on the logical vs. the physical) Does anyone pls. know if I can keep the logical read-only all the time?
    Much appreciated,
    Sophie

    Oh, Ok. I guess i interpreted it differently. The direct quote from the docs: "Although the logical standby database is opened in read/write mode, its target tables for the regenerated SQL are available only for read-only operations." So I guess what it means, as you suggest, is the entire set of tables from the primary, and not just those few that happened to be updated at that particular time frame, are kept in read-only the entire time...

  • Configure Read-Only Routing Azure DBs

    Is it possible to configure Read-Only Routing for the SQL Azure Databases in Active-Geo Replication in similar way what can be achieved in Always-On Availability Groups

    Hi,
    The Active Geo-Replication feature provides:
    Readable online secondary databases: An application can access an online secondary database for read-only operations using the same security principals used for accessing the primary database. Continuous copy operations on the online secondary database take
    precedence over application access. Also, if the queries on the online secondary database cause prolonged table locking, transactions could eventually fail on the primary database.
    Please note : Active Geo-Replication is only supported for databases in the Premium service tier.

  • Invalid operation for read only resultset:

    Hi.
    I'm developing an app that connects to Oracle, but I ran into the following problem:
    When I create a Statement, I specify
    that I need an Updatable ResultSet with the following code:
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE,
    ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    ResultSet rset =stmt.executeQuery(somesql);
    When I try to update the ResultSet, I get an SQLException: java.sql.SQLException: Invalid operation for read only resultset: updateString
    Am I
    doing something wrong or is this a bug?
    Any info is greatly appreciated.

    There are limitations on the kinds of queries you can perform. If the query is not suitable for update, it reverts back to readonly automatically. Read the below article about limitations and examples.

    I don't have any managed system connected yet.
    When I try to attach the SMD agent in the SLDAgentCandidates screen...I get two messages as detailed below:
    2011.04.13 20:14:12, Managing System 'SL1.SystemHome.sol' is  registered in the SLD, Customization of Managing system settings is disabled but it is not a problem to attach the agent.

    Please what am I doing wrong because I even gave full authorization (SAP_ALL and SAP_NEW) to user SLDAPIUSER and i have also tried with a few user accounts wilth full authorization like J2EE_ADMIN and my SOLMAN administrator.

    Hello John,
    You get the ead-only message because your connected to the local SLD. You need to connect to the productive SLD.
    But the other message (Customization of Managing system settings is disabled) I get also. Did you solve it already?

    Your result using 'SELECT *' is not updateable. Gimbal2 was pointing you in the right direction. You have to specify the columns in the select list to get an updateable result set.
    You also need to use 'updateRow()' to update the database and have a commit somewhere to keep the results.
    This code works for me. Note that I added an explicit SELECT list, the 'updateRow()' method and an explicit COMMIT.
        try {
            con = getOracleConnection();
            stmt = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    //        String query = "select * from employees";
            String query = "select first_name from employees"; -- added explicit SELECT list
            rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
            while (rs.next()) {
                String fname = rs.getString(1);
                if (fname.equalsIgnoreCase("Adam")) {
                    rs.updateString(1, "Mark");
                    rs.updateRow();                                    -- need this statement to actually update the database
    //                rs.updateString(2, "Robert");
                    break;
            con.commit(); -- added explicit commit for testing
        } catch (SQLException ex) {See Performing an UPDATE Operation in a Result Set in the 'Updating Result Sets' section of the JDBC Developer's Guide and Reference
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/java.111/b31224/resltset.htm#i1024720
    As gimbal2 also alluded it is considered poor practice to use column numbers to perform result set operations when you don't know for certain what column a given number refers to. Before people start jumping all over that statement let me clarify it. The key part is KNOWING what column you are referencing. It is more performant to access result column columns by column number rather than by column name since the methods that take a column name call the integer method under the covers anyway but have to search the array of column names in order to get the column number.
    With your query (SELECT *) there is no way to be sure the column order is the same since the table could be redefined with the columns in a different order or certain columns having been deleted. So for performance LOOP processing column numbers are used inside the loop but those column numbers are determined by using the metadata BEFORE the loop to convert column names to column numbers.
    That way you code (BEFORE the loop) can use column names but you use a set of integer variables (one for each column) for the actual access inside the loop.

  • Exchange 2007 New Install Error - Read only MultiValuedProperty does not support this operation

    Existing Server/Exchange 2003 environment. New 2003 R2 x64 server fully patched and updated with no other apps installed attempting to install Exchange 2007 SP2.
    Initially I was getting the error "Could not find the default Administrative Group ‘Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)’". This I
    fixed by completely uninstalling per this Microsoft article,
    this Microsoft FixIt article and this recommended blog post, ending with
    setup.com /preparead. I'm making progress, because now I'm getting a new error attempting the install. Specifically, Hub Transport installation fails with "Read only MultiValuedProperty does not support this operation."
    Executing
    setup.com /prepareSchema fails. I've set the msExchVer attribute for CN=Offline Address Lists to 4535486012416 and gotten no change, the install still fails. This
    Googled page exactly describes my problem, and all anyone could say was to add this version number. It doesn't work. Pretty much none of the threads I've read have a resolution beyond this. I'm stumped, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What's the error message when executing  setup.com /prepareSchema fails? failed at Organization Checks?
    Could you please check whether you are on the right schema version?

  • This operation is not available for read only field 'Type MVF'

    Hi All,
    We are using OrderToCash PIP and we are on Siebel 8.1X.
    While Synching the customer from Ebiz to Siebel facing the following issues:
    Method 'WriteRecord' of business component 'Account' (integration component 'Account') for record with search specification '[Row Id] = "2d3434313239353"' returned the following error:"This operation is not available for read only field 'Type MVF'.(SBL-DAT-00402)"(SBL-EAI-04451)
    Please suggest us what steps to be done in Siebel.
    Thanks
    Maanasa

    First check the process why this is calling Account BC WriteRecord(). The field "Type MVF" might be read only and this sync process is trying to update this field which is read only. This is the reason for the error. Check the OM log / EAI Obj Manager Comp log (set log level to 5) and check.

    Can anyone please help me with this?

    Hi rnm1978,
    You were right!
    I was being a bit retarded and had to simply switch the call interface on the connection pool to use the OCI and ensure the dta source name was that of the TNS names entry and not the system DSN.

  • Recently my keyboard on my macbook pro died. i backed up the machine to my Seagate 500GB hard drive, successfully, and sent the notebook in for repairs. Now that the macbook is repaired, i can read from the seagate, but not write to it. It says read only.

    Recently my Macbook Pro's keyboard failed. Using my wireless keyboard, i managed to backup everything to my 500gb Seagate external hard drive. I sent the machine in, had the keyboard repaired, and now the machine is back, and i am loading my content back onto the macbook. My problem is that the drive is now read only, and i have searched for all the obvious fixes. The lock on the permissions secion of the info block on the drive. (not present). I have even tried disk utility, but all the options are greyed out.
    I am a graphic designer, and so i use my external drive extensively to move artwork around, so it is important that i can make it writable. It worked perfectly on this very same machine, two weeks ago, and nothing has changed on the drive, so i can only assume it is a software issue on the operating system.
    I have read through all the forums, etc, and can find nothing that works. I am loath to change anything on the drive, as it was working perfectly on this system before the system went in for its repair.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot Login to Read Only Domain Controller

    One of my Read Only Domain Controller Servers shut down unexpectedly due to a power outage and now I cannot login to it anymore. When the server powered on again, it came up with an error regarding on of the hard drives failing (RAID1)
    I get a message Access is Denied when I try to login with one of my domain admin accounts. As it is a RODC, there are no local accounts for me to use. The RODC is running on Windows Server 2008 R2. The server is also running as a DHCP/Print/File server for
    the office so these are not working as well.
    I checked my PDC and it is coming up with the following error in the event viewer

    used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the

  • MS Word: This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box.

    This is not a question. I believe I've found a new issue and the fix for it.
    The situation:
    A brand new iMac 27" running Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacMini server running 10.8.5 server.
    The issue:
    Client on iMac trying to work on MS Word documents stored on server was requiring him to save the documents to his desktop and then copy them back to the folder on the server. The exact error message was, "This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box."
    The issue is unique to this computer in an office of 10 client computers and three servers.
    Attempted fixes:
    Verified that the ".Temporaryitems" folder existed and the permissions were set properly.
    Repaired permissions on the client and the network share.
    Definitive fix:
    By default, Yosemite 10.10.1 uses SMB for connecting file shares. When I overrode the default and switched to AFP protocol, the issue went away.
    I hope this helps someone else.

    That was it. What an operating system. It is very helpful to view files you are looking for. But if you have preview on you cannot save files.

  • Can a Column in a Project Plan be set to Read Only for everyone except Admins

    At my company the Project Server Admins create the initial project plans.  We want to add a new column that will designate each task in the plan as Capital or Operational.  We do not want anyone to have the ability to change these.
    When the Project Managers need additional tasks on their plans they will need to copy an existing one in order to have this piece of information pre-populated on their new tasks, since we do not want them deciding what the task should be themselves and populating
    the field as they create tasks.

    In addition to Dale's excellent answer, I'd mention that it is possible to make a column "read-only" for certain security groups in MS Project Pro with VBA code.
    That being said, I'd suggest to follow Dale's advice using a "soft" solution.
    Hope this helps,

  • Want to create a Read Only user for a given app owner user

    Hi Folks,
    We have an application owner schema, lets call it OWNER, which has different objects living under it.
    Now, for certain reasons, the app group wants a read only user which should be able to view objects living only in OWNER. It would only be able to read things, and have no create or alter types of priv to be able to change anything.
    The first idea was to create a new user (e.g. RO) and give this explicit grants (select only) for all objects in OWNER. Though this works, is a maintenance havoc, since everytime there is a new object in OWNER, you have to remember to give explicit grants to all RO (or RW ) kind of users.
    What i am looking forward to is, some sort of privilege or role concept that apply on the user level, and not on object level. something that allows me to say, all objects of this schema (e.g. OWNER) are visible to user RO. Other restrictions on RO would control read or write behaviour.
    Does this thing exist ? please point me to the documentation/example..

  • Creating row in a recursive view having read-only attribute

    Hi All,
    I am using Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2.
    I have a view AppMenusVO with the participation of following entities:
    1. AppMenusEO *(Updateable)* with columns like MenuId, MenuName, MenuIcon, MenuParentId, MenuTaskflowId
    2. AppTaskflowsEO *(Reference)* with columns as TaskflowId, TaskflowName, and TaskflowURL
    3. AppMenusEO as ParentMenus *(Reference)* with columns as ParentMenuId, ParentMenuName
    Next I created a One..Many view link where source and destination entity is the AppMenusVO based on relation (MenuId=MenuParentId). The name of the view accessor is MenuChildren.
    This view is used to create af:treeTable component on the adf page. In order to create new row I am following the blog entry at http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2010/05/crud-operations-on-tree-table.html.
    I created a business method in the application module with the following specification:
        public void createMenuChildren(RowIterator ri, Key selectedNodeKey) {
            if (ri != null && selectedNodeKey != null) {
                Row[] found = ri.findByKey(selectedNodeKey, 1);
                if (found != null && found.length == 1) {
                    System.out.println("Node found for : " + selectedNodeKey + " Parent Id : " +
                                       found[0].getAttribute("MenuParentId"));
                    Row foundRow = found[0];
                    RowSet childRows = (RowSet)foundRow.getAttribute("MenuChildren");
                    while (childRows.hasNext()) {
                        Row r = childRows.next();
                        System.out.println(r.getAttribute("MenuName"));
                    Row childrow = childRows.createRow();
                    childrow.setAttribute("MenuParentId", foundRow.getAttribute("MenuParentId"));
                    childRows.insertRow(childrow);
                } else {
                    System.out.println("Node not Found for " + selectedNodeKey);
        }When I invoke this method from the adf page it is giving the exception An attemp is made to validate an already invalid region site.
    The Jdeveloper console is also throwing the exception oracle.jbo.ReadOnlyAttrException: JBO-27008: Attribute ParentMenuName in view object AppMenusVO_MenuChildren_ParentMenusVL_AppMenusVO cannot be set.
    I searched Google and OTN but unable to resolve the error.
    The solution I have tried are:
    The default activity on the BTF is marked and is pointing to a valid view.
    Set the activation property of region to immediate ... etc.
    BUT the issue persists.
    Any help to create row programmatically in recursive view where some of the attributes are read-only?
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards
    Bilal

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the response.
    The updateable property of ParentMenuName attribute is Never and is being disabled so I am unable to change its value. Moreover, never in my code I am changing value of this field. What I am doing is trying to create a new row and then insert it into rowset. I don't know how to proceed further.
    One more thing is that I have an LOV on another column MenuParentId which returns value in this field as well. It might be the reason? ...
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
