Read receipts in iMessage - are they always accurate?

Are read receipts 100% accurate using iMessage from iPhone to iPhone both running iOS 7? I sent a message to my partner I sat and watched the report go from 'delivered' to 'read' a few seconds later. She claims she didn't read the message till the next morning, hours later. So is she lying, or does iMessage get it wrong &  say it's been read when it hasn't?

Get together with both iPhones in one room and watch both screen while you send and receive iMessages.  See for your self when your iPhone receives a Delivered and then a Read response from her iPhone.  Just to make the experiment a little more interesting, you might have the last action on her phone was reading an iMessage from your iPhone.  Now set her iPhone down and send it another iMessage ...what happens with regard to the responses your iPhone receives?

  • No read receipt on imessage today

I know Apple was having issues with Imessaging yesterday and supposedly has corrected the issue.  However, I am still experiencing delays in sending and receiving and also don't get the read receipt.  My husband's Iphone is having similar problems.  Anyone else still having issues with Imessaging?

There are still a lot of posts here with people having trouble with iMessage.   I'm not certain that it is 100% resolved yet despite there being no mention of it on the system status page.
I'm sure they will have it sorted out soon.

  • What are these ports 989, 1021, 1033 and why are they always ON?

I have noticed unknown network traffic on Activity Monitor, even I close all application, AM still shows there's about 1~2 KB (Data received).
So, I open a Terminal and check by 'netstat' command. I notice there's some unknown tcp connections established. Is there anyone know what are these ports, and is it normal to have them ON all the time ?
    $ netstat -n | grep EST
    (..omited)
    tcp4 0 0 127.0.0.1.1033 127.0.0.1.989 ESTABLISHED
    tcp4 0 0 127.0.0.1.989 127.0.0.1.1033 ESTABLISHED
    tcp4 0 0 127.0.0.1.1033 127.0.0.1.1021 ESTABLISHED
    tcp4 0 0 127.0.0.1.1021 127.0.0.1.1033 ESTABLISHED

These ports are some of those used by the NetInfo subsystem which keeps track of your computer's users, groups, and some other information about its configuration. Since the IP addresses listed for those connections are all 127.0.0.1, your computer is connecting to itself; having these open isn't a cause for concern.

  • On Lexical variables: Are they always treated as user parameters???

    Hi
Report Developer 10g, Winodws XP platform, local client
I have a dynamic where clause in my report query with a lexical variable &p_where which holds the where clause. This where clause is determined at runtime, depending on the user parameter value that was entered.
My problem is, the lexical variable &p_where is automatically added to the list of my user parameters and does show up in my parameter form, when the report is run. This will cause lot of confusion to the user, as it is not part of user input.
It is not a user parameter, but should be treated as a regular variable. How do I work around this?
    Thanks
    Suma

I understand. The lexical variable was automatically added to the user parameters list upon it having appeared in a query.
This is expected. The lexical variable must be defined. Since it is not a system parameter, Oracle*Reports added it to the user parameter list.
But if it is also showing up on your user parameter FORM (the form which solicits input from the user prior to running the report), it can simply be deleted from that form without affecting its use in the query.
    Regards,
    Steve

  • If read receipts are on, will they work on Macbook?

If someone has read receipts turned on on their iPhone, but they read the iMessage from their Macbook, will it still send a read receipt? It seems like it doesn't. Because if this person checks the message from their phone, I see the read receipt. But if they read it from their Macbook, I don't see a read receipt, just that it was delivered. Is this correct? Or is this a bug?

    Hey ktanner5,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to know if OS X has read reciepts in Messages. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Messages (Yosemite): Accounts preferences for iMessage
    Send read receipts
If you enable read receipts, people who send you messages will see when you’ve read them.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a good one,

  • Gmail emails with Read Receipt Request are returned as "Not Read"

When reading and organizing my emails with my work gmail account that have read receipts attached to them, they are reporting "Not Read", "deleted without being read" even though I have read them. This is happening both from my iPhone and from web based gmail. It seems that upon IMAP syncing, the "Not Read" status goes out.
I believe this is linked to my iPhone because I emailed one of my coworkers on the same gmail domain an email with a read receipt attached. After he read and archived it from web based emailed (he doesn't have an iPhone), it did not return any response, either "read" or "not read". This is what previously happened with emails viewed on my iPhone.
Is there some setting for Read Receipts? How can I stop these messages from showing as deleted and not read?
    Thanks!!!

Just found this thread on GMail sync issues:
    /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-Email-Client-Sync-issues-and-deleted-emails-still-appearing/td-p/...
So far it looks good - after following the advise in the last post by Ali_L sync seems to working. Push does at least, better than ever.
    Short version:
    1. Remove your GMail account from the N8.
    2. Add your GMail account again, but this time make sure you decline the "Terms of Service" when they are presented to you.
    3. Manually configure sync intervals / GMail IMAP folders etc.

  • Read-receipt of mail

how do I get the read-receipt of mail

You don't. Mail doesn't support read receipts.
You can add them to every email you send by editing the default headers:
    http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_request_recp.htm
Note that is an all or nothing modification. You can pick which messages send read receipt requests.
You can always just ask in the body of the email for the recipient to please respond as their activities are very important for you to monitor.

  • Not Read Receipts Since Office 2013 Upgrade

    Hi,
We have just upgrade to Office 2013, form Office 2007.  and we appear to be having some issues with Read Receipts, if we ask for a read receipt on a mail, as soon as the mail is sent  we receive a not read receipt as shown below.
    "Your message
          To:   Ian Hart
          Subject:    RE: Consignment No.
          Sent: 24/04/2015 12:01
was deleted without being read on 24/04/2015 12:01."
I know that the mail are being received as I have sent a test mail from my work outlook 2013, to my own outlook.com and it was received fine although I did receive a not Read receipt on my work outlook.
if we resend a message with read receipts we do not get a not read receipt, could any one make any suggestions
1.) Mail Accounts are Microsoft Exchange
I have looked into this further and the issue seams to be with the Read Receipts.
I have sent an email with a Delivery Receipt and that delivers fine and I get a Receipt
I have sent a mail with only a read receipt and I get a not read receipt as shown in the post.
In not sure if the error is accruing because we are sending  to email accounts/ exchanges that have had the read receipt function disabled or if it is a problem full stop.
    Best Regards
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
A read receipt informs you that your message has been opened. However, do not rely solely on these receipts. In Microsoft Outlook, the message recipient has the option to decline to send read receipts. There are other scenarios where read receipts are not
sent, including if the recipient's e-mail program does not support read receipts.
I recommend you refer to the following article to troubleshoot the issue:
    Track email with read receipts

  • Read Receipt redirect to different address

We are using Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2010 version 14. I am wanting to create a saved message that will be used multiple times and be sent by many different people but I want the read receipt
to go to the "manager" instead of the original sender. I searched the entire interwebs and have found nothing of the sorts. Is this even remotely possible? Coding is not an issue
    Thanks!!

Read receipts go to the mailbox that is listed as the sending mailbox.  You say the message is being sent from each of these users.  Have you considered having it sent from (or on behalf of) another address?  That address could be a distribution
group that this manager is the sole member of.  This would allow you to separate the send as (or send on behalf) from the actual mailbox.  Then read receipts will only go to the manager. You could also do this with a shared mailbox as the send as
mailbox, and give the manager access to the shared mailbox.
I'll add that read receipts are not a great way of determining whether a message has been seen or not.  Keep in mind that the reading pane allows someone to read a message without ever marking it as read. Add to this the fact that a person can decline
to send the read receipt, regardless of whether they're read the message, and read receipts are fair at best for checking on the status of an email that's not in your mailbox.

  • My wife, daughter and I have iPhones. We all have iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue except those that my wife sends to me. They are green. Can anyone explain why.

My wife, daughter and I have iPhones with iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue however, when my wife messages me, the message appears in green on her iPhone. Can anyone explain why.

Because some kind of error occured.  This is only from her iPhone to your iPhone?  Whenever she sends a message to any other iPhone, it is sent as blue?  And when anyone else sends you a message from an iPhone, it sends as blue?

  • My iMessage read receipts are turned on but it doesn't work for all my contacts

I have iMessage read receipts turned on on my iPhone 5. Several of my contacts also have it turned on. They can see when I read their messages but it's not showing up on my end. Someone explain to me how this is happening and how I can fix it. I have SEVERAL contacts who can see my read receipts but I can't see theirs. It has to be something on my end but I don't see how!
    Thank you.

How did the photos get onto your iPad e.g. were they copied to the iPad from your computer ? If not then you should be able to delete them directly in the Photos app on your iPad. If they were copied from your computer then they are removed from the iPad using the same process as you used to put them onto the iPad :
Connect the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar (if you are using iTunes 11 on your PC then control-s should get the sidebar to show) :
On the right-hand side of the iTunes screen select the Photos tab :
If you just want to remove some folders/albums that you had copied from your computer then de-select them on the list :
If you want to remove all photos that you had copied to your iPad from your computer then select and sync a folder that doesn't have any photos in it :

  • If you read a message twice on iMessage, does the time on the read receipt change?

i was messaging someone earlier on imessage and they read my message at about 3pm (i got a read receipt).. but when i checked my imessage on my laptop a few hours later the timestamp had changed to about 6pm, when the timestamp on my phone hadn't changed. does this mean the person i sent the message to read it twice?

Please remember that the Time Capsule's antennas are up at the top of the device, and have been designed to work best in that position.
In addition, the air flow pattern to help cool the internal electronics has been designed to work best with the Time Capsule in a upright position.
When I lay the Time Capsule down for 30 minutes, it is noticeably warmer. I can't tell if wireless is affected that much since my home is not that big.
You could try laying the Time Capsule down, but my recommendation would be that you do not do this. You may get a different opinion from another user, so stay tuned.

  • I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) but the messages are still there.

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.
