Read/Unread status resetted?

I've just noticed (after a low-acces period of a few weeks) that all the messages are set to unread. (I know this specifically for certain floated threads).
Is this by design?

What's even stranger is that according to my settings all messages over 10 days old should be set to 'read'...
I've been looking, but it seems I can only toggle the 'read' status per board. That I hit that accidentally on one board I can understand, however all the boards?

  • Determine the read/unread status of a message in a users inbox

    Is there any way to see the current status of a read/unread message attribute. The email is confidential and the user is not supposed to see it. The sender wants assurance that the email was not read. He wont accept a screen shot as the email could always
    be marked as unread.  I have tried MSMAPI but the attribute doesn't seem to be listed, though I cant determine the Hex code meaning. Thanks for any leads.

    "read"
    is just a flag on the message (PR_MESSAGE_FLAGS), it can be changed and it cannot guarantee you if the message was actually read. Confidential mail should be encrypted or IRM-protected, so you can blame the sender as much as the recipient.

  • Does "read / unread status" work consistently with the current version of iPad os and Exchange?

    I'm having issues with "read / unread" email status syncing successfully between iOS devices and Outlook/Exchange.
    Reading an email on the iPad only marks the email as "read" on Outlook about 50% of the time, and vice versa.
    Syncing "red flags" on emails is inconsistent as well.
    I'm unsure if this is just a quirk with iPad / iOS, or if this is an issue my hosted Exchange provider needs to look into.
    Does read/unread sync work consistently for the rest of you? Thanks.\
    The iPad is on 6.01. Unsure what version of Exchange the provider is running.
    Thanks

    We run Exchange 2010 with Activesync and we don't notice any issues with our exchange setup.  Either on iPhones or iPads.

  • Hotmail - Read/Unread status

    Is there a way to keep messages marked as read on Hotmail (web) even if I open them on my Blackberry?
    e.g. currently on my gmail account, if I read (or even delete - handheld only) a message on my blackberry... and I open my gmail account on my computer via a browser, I can still see the message marked unread. Would like to do the same on hotmail.

  • How to control read/unread status of email

    I would like to be able to simply view (in the preview pane) emails without them being marked as 'read'. Is there a way to do this in the Mac mail client (Snow Leopard)?
    When I actually open the email, it would then be marked as 'read'.
    Outlook for Windows allows the user to control how they want the email client to handle "preview" vs "open" differently when it comes to marking the email as 'read' and I'd like to be able to do the same thing in the Mac.

    From the Mail Help menu:
    *Viewing messages in separate windows*
    Normally, Mail displays the contents of messages in the bottom portion of the viewer window, letting you easily scan and move between messages. As you select each message, it is marked as having been read.
    You can also view each message in a separate window.
    If you want to view some messages in the bottom portion of the viewer window and some separately, you can open multiple viewer windows.
    • To remove the bottom portion of the viewer window, so you don't see the message contents in the window, double-click the bar that separates the list of messages from the message content. To view a message, double-click it, and it opens in its own window. The message is not marked as read until you open its window.
    • To restore message contents to the viewer window, double-click the separator bar at the bottom of the window.
    • To open multiple viewer windows, choose File > New Viewer Window.

  • Online / offline, read/ unread status, message order

    Kind of exhausting dealing with the UTTER JUNK skype software on a daily basis. As I sit now with my Mac and iPhone Skype in front of me, talking to the same person: * One of these devices says the person is online, the other says they are offline. * Message order is different between the different devices. * My iPhone is missing the last several messages sent for an hour now, even though I reboot, reconnect etc. * Unlike things like FB messenger, you can't tell for sure when they read the message. * Messages got stuck in the system for hours today (leading me to great personal strife). Why oh why do we use this junk when FB messanger has so far lifted the bar of good design, reliability and user interface over Skype which seems stuck in the 1990s, Skype can't release anything that isn't full of bugs, they don't release even basic new features, and it hasn't even been as reliable as it used to be 5 years ago for a long time. Just junk, that's all.

    Hi, Don't wanna use the GMail app (don't like it really).Besides, this used to work perfect before the update, so it's clearly a bug. On other issue I found:When deleting a message which is open (using the trash can symbol at the top), sometimes the mail reappears when the app goes back to the inbox.When deleting using a swipe action, this never seems to happen.

  • Outlook 2010 shared mailbox marked as read/unread issue

    Hi Outlook Pro's,
    We've got a weird issue on a shared e-mail account in exchange. 2 users accessing the shared account currently experience this issue whereas another one works fine and we're trying to determine the source of the problem.
    When browsing the shared e-mail account's inbox, and opening an e-mail, the e-mail isn't marked as read in the inbox. This is a problem as other users viewing the same e-mail account can't see whether the e-mail is being serviced.
    However, if we categorize the e-mail, it is marked as read/unread instantly. Or if we switch to the users personal inbox and back again it changes the read/unread status.
    User services has tried the following:-
    1. Changed Reading Pane options for when the mail item is marked as read.
    2. Enabled the reading pane addon for Outlook.
    3. Repairing the OST (clearing the exchange cache)
    3. Switching the effected user to another computer, it's almost like the problem follows their profile.
    The e-mail account is shared between 5 users, only 2 of which are experiencing this problem.
    Is there anything else we can try on the user end?
    What should we investigate in Exchange?

    Analysed first according to your description.
    1. Changed Reading Pane options for when the mail item is marked as read. - no option problem
    2. Enabled the reading pane addon for Outlook. - What's add-ins in your site?
    3. Repairing the OST (clearing the exchange cache) - Not the problem for data file itself
    4. Switching the effected user to another computer, it's almost like the problem follows their profile. - Not the problem related the shared mailbox
    5. The e-mail account is shared between 5 users, only 2 of which are experiencing this problem - conflict with the result of Point 4, it looks the local profile still be the doubt..
    At this point, please try to run Outlook.exe with safe mode on those two problematic computers and avoid any add-ins interrupt. You may also use the switch command-line /cleanviews to check the result as well.
    On other hand, please double confirm if the problematic computers' connection status vs. none-issue machines'. Using the cable connection with the same network speed? RPC/MAPI or RPC over http? etc... Any difference might be the cause.

  • Apple Mail not syncing Inbox Status (Read/ Unread)

    This is Ramya from Zoho Mail Technical Support team.
    When a Zoho Mail account is configured as IMAP in Apple Mail client in Mac Mail clients, the emails are synced fine in all folders except Inbox.
    When the emails in Inbox are marked as Read/ Unread in other devices, the emails are not marked as Read/ Unread in the Mac Mail client. The new emails that arrive in Inbox are getting retrieved in the mail client, but only the status of the emails in Inbox remain unchanged.
    After analyzing the logs in detail, we see that Apple Mail is not issuing the IMAP STATUS command for Inbox folder alone.
    To check if there is any issue, we tried configuring Yahoo, Dovecot email accounts in Mac Mail client and the result was the same for Yahoo and Dovecot accounts also.
    Interestingly, when we configure a Gmail account as IMAP, Apple Mail issues the IMAP STATUS command and syncs the status of the emails in the Inbox folder also.
    We have a lot of users who use Zoho Mail via IMAP in Apple Mail Client who face this issue and have raised it to us in our community forums, emails. You can have a look at the https://forums.zoho.com/topic/zoho-and-apple-mail-via-imap to find the issues reported by the user regarding Apple Mail IMAP sync.

  • Read/Unread, Replied, & Forwarded status not syncing with Exchange 2003 SP2

    Is there a solution to the email status syncing issue for Microsoft Exchange 2003? It had never work since the day we setup the exchange account on the iphone. Any suggestion is appreciated.
    I posted the above question in May 2009. iOS is now at 4.2.1, I guess Apple has no plan on addressing these. Would it work with the latest Microsoft Exchange?

    Read/Unread worked for me when we were on Exchange 2003, and it continues to work now that we are on 2007. So it's probably an issue in your Exchange server.

  • Forums: read/unread-new/old postings icon not displaying

    Just noticed this recently (perhaps after the 10.4.3 upgrade?): in all the forums I subscribe to online, the icons used by different boards to display read/unread or new/old postings no longer display the status of postings. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
    Thanks in advance. BTW, this doesn't appear to be a problem on the Apple Discussion boards.

    OK, I see the problem; basically one simply needs to log in again. Even though I have "log in automatically" checked for each forum, after upgrading it appears that users need to indeed log in once again.

  • Yahoo read mail status not syncing in Mail App

    Hello all.
    Perhaps you can help with a problem I'm having with syncing read message status in Mail on my Macbook. I sure the Mail App and an Iphone. When I read a message on the iPhone, the message continues appearing as unread in Mail on the Macbook. If I exit Mail and then restart it, the message then correctly appears as read. If I read the mail on the macbook, its read status does sync up with the iPhone, and the iPhone shows it as read.
    I'm using IMAP for Yahoo in the Mail app on the macbook. I have this problem with Mail on Tiger, Snow Leopard, and Lion, with multiple people on multiple macs, so it's not email account, machine, or user related. I don't have this problem with Thunderbird - that syncs read status fine. Only in the Apple Mail App.
    Thanks!

    Hi Cory,
    Is there/will there be a fix?
    Your guess is as good as ours (everyone here is just a user like yourself). This problem has been around since December last year (search the Safari forum for 'yahoo business' and you should find a few threads discussing it).
    In those threads, responses from Yahoo say the issue is with Apple. Historically, Yahoo has been pretty abysmal when it comes to making their sites compatible with Safari/Macs though so I'd be inclined to take their statement with a small pinch of salt...

  • Problems with read/unread mail on IMAP server

    [ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; Please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]
    I'm having the strangest problem and I've yet to find a pattern or explanation for it. I retrieve all my mail from an IMAP server and store cached copies on my Mac. Sometimes after I've read a message, and Mail.app marks it as such, it will re-flag itself as unread after a number of minutes. Sometimes it's immediately, other times it's after several hours. It doesn't happen on all messages, just some, and seems to happen in at random in any of my IMAP folders. It's incredibly annoying. Has anyone else had this happen or do you know how to fix it? It doesn't seem to happen with other MUAs, just Mail.app. Thank you!

    I brought this up with Apple and Mirapoint (the providers of our mail server infrastructure) a year and a half ago when I was running 10.3.4. The discussions ended up to a difference of opinion between the two companies concerning the IMAP spec. This has always been a issue with Mail.app ever since I can remember from back in the 10.0 days up until at least 10.4.4.
    I will post the tail end of the discussion with the names removed to protect the innocent. I will admit that alot of this stuff is over my head. I also don't know how this applies to other mail servers. I don't think any other IMAP clients that I know of exhibit this read/unread state issue.
    FROM APPLE:
    Thanks for your patience on this escalation. A Mail.app engineer has reviewed the logs you sent in and determined that the Mirapoint server is returning the wrong response.
    Specifically, in return to SELECT their server is returning:
    * FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Draft \Deleted \Seen NotJunk Junk Forwarded JunkRecorded)
    * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Draft \Deleted \Seen NotJunk Junk Forwarded JunkRecorded \*)]
    * 11 EXISTS
    * 0 RECENT
    * OK [UIDVALIDITY 1057775569]
    3 OK [READ-WRITE] Completed
    They are using the PERMANENTFLAGS response for session-based IMAP flags, which unfortunately does not abide by the IMAP spec. The engineer has agreed that Mail.app could likely do a better job handling session-based flags but concurrently Mirapoint needs to rev their software to return the appropriate response as per the IMAP spec.
    MIRAPOINT'S RESPONSE:
    I went through the spec (RFC 2060) and found the following...
    IMAP server can allow a client to create permanent flags that can be stored:
    Under Section 2.3.2. Flags Message Attribute
    A keyword is defined by the server implementation. Keywords do not begin with "\". Servers MAY permit the client to define new keywords in the mailbox (see the description of the PERMANENTFLAGS response code for more information).
    Also,
    Under Section 6.3.1. SELECT Command
    If the client can not change the permanent state of one or more of the flags listed in the FLAGS untagged response, the server SHOULD send a PERMANENTFLAGS response code in an OK untagged response, listing the flags that the client can change permanently.
    Also,
    Under Section 7.1 Server Responses - Status Responses....
    PERMANENTFLAGS Followed by a parenthesized list of flags, indicates which of the known flags that the client can change permanently. Any flags that are in the FLAGS untagged response, but not the PERMANENTFLAGS list, can not be set permanently. If the client attempts to STORE a flag that is not in the PERMANENTFLAGS list, the server will either reject it with a NO reply or store the state for the remainder of the current session only. The PERMANENTFLAGS list can also include the special flag \*, which indicates that it is possible to create new keywords by attempting to store those flags in the mailbox.
    Now, referring to the earlier IMAP session (over telnet ) that I had you do:
    . select inbox
    * FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Draft \Deleted \Seen NotJunk Junk JunkRecorded Forwarded)
    * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Draft \Deleted \Seen NotJunk Junk JunkRecorded Forwarded \*)]
    * 12 EXISTS
    * 2 RECENT
    * OK [UNSEEN 11]
    * OK [UIDVALIDITY 1056569562]
    . OK [READ-WRITE] Completed
    . fetch 1:* flags
    * 1 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 2 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen NotJunk))
    * 3 FETCH (FLAGS (\Answered \Seen NotJunk))
    * 4 FETCH (FLAGS (\Answered \Seen Forwarded))
    * 5 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 6 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 7 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 8 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 9 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 10 FETCH (FLAGS (\Seen))
    * 11 FETCH (FLAGS (\Recent))
    * 12 FETCH (FLAGS (\Recent))
    . OK Completed
    As you can see above, "NotJunk", "Forwarded" are the PERMANENTFLAGS defined and stored by Mail.App client, not the session specific flags. According to the snippets that quoted above from the IMAP specs, I think Mirapoint is correct in its PERMANENTFLAGS response.
