  • Reading BLOB from SQL Server 2005 using DB Link from Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
I am trying to read a table's data from SQL Server 2005 using ODBC DB Link created in Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3/4) database. I am not using oracle gateway.
I am able read all data except for the BLOB data from SQL server 2005. It gives error given below when I try to execute query SELECT * from T_TRANSACTION_DATA@sdeslink inside a stored procedure:
ORA-22992: cannot use LOB locators selected from remote tables
Kindly help how to read BLOB from SQL server 2005 inside Oracle 10g.
    Best Regards!
    Irfan

    Irfan,
If you can read the blob data using 10.2 HSODBC then there should be no problem using the 11g gateway.
I recommend you download the latest version which is 11.2.0.3 available from My oracle Support as -
Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
This is a full version and does not need a previous version to have bene installed. When installing it needs to be in a completlely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 11.2 install.
For the Ora-22992 problem have a look at this note in My Oracle Support -
    Ora-22992 has a workaround in 10gR2 (Doc ID 436707.1)

  • Reading milliseconds from Sql server into oracle 10g

    Hi,
We have a very time sensitive pressing requirements to be addressed immediately.
We need to read the date time column from sql server 2008 into oracle 10g.
We have a dblink established between the two servers and have tried to use sql server and sql native client 10 driver to read the dates from sql into oracle. This we are able to do very successfully.
The issue is in reading milliseconds stored in sql server. The millisecond part comes in as 00000 from sqlserver to oracle. These milliseconds are needed to identlfy the unique records.
    For instance
    SQL SERVER Oracle
    source_id source id
    01/01/2012 6:30:35:456 01/01/2012 6:30:35:000000.
Im issuing my query through Toad via Oracle to remote sql server using a dblink which connects using HS ODBC connection to sql server 2008(remote).
We have no control over sql server Db as this is remote third party DB.We just have select access to their tables to bring into our own oracle DB.
Any insight or help will be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Could you please send the following information -
    - what version of HSODBC are you using ? Is it a 10.2 version ?
    - what is the SQL*Server datatype of the column you are reading ?
    - from Oracle could you issue -
    describe sql_server_table@hsodbc
    - what is the Oracle datatype shown for the column ?
Could you also run your tests using SQLPLUS instead of TOAD ? We don't support TOAD and need to know if the problem also happens when using SQLPLUS, to avoid it being a TOAD problem.
Also, 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and you should be using the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) which is a direct replacement for HSODBC. To use DG4ODBC your RDBMS needs to be at 10.2.0.4 or higher and DG4ODBC should be installed in a completely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 10.2 install.

  • Read XML from remote server

Not sure if this is even possible.
I am using APEX on a INTERNAL server, on the same network is another server hosting files.
Using PL/SQL code, I need to read the XML file.
    So APEX/ORACLE is at http:\\server1\apex\f?p........
And the files are at \\server2\xml\file.xml
Can I load the xml from server2 using pl/sql in server1?
The XML is generated automatically from another system and can not be stored on the APEX server. It does not need to go into the database, just read, parced, and displayed.

    Hi,
Using PL/SQL code, I need to read the XML file. You can create a directory object pointing to the location on server2 :
CREATE DIRECTORY xml_dir AS '\\server2\xml';then you can access the XML content like this :
    DECLARE
    v_xml_doc xmltype;
    BEGIN
    v_xml_doc := xmltype(bfilename('XML_DIR', 'file.xml'), nls_charset_id('CHAR_CS'));
    -- XML processing here...
    END;

  • Reading Data from SQL Server 2000 Linked Servers

    Hello,
I have a colleague who wants to read data from a OO4O driver Linked Server my FRENCH_FRANCE.US7ASCII Oracle 8i database.
He's got some troubles to read data with "é", "à", and so on. They always replaced by "?"
Since I have ask him to use SQL Developer on his server to see if he has got configuration problems, his PL/SQL queries return "square figure" characters (not the usual "²") instead of "?".
For info, I've said it to use CONVERT(column, 'FR8DEC', 'US7ASCII) but it doesn't work too (also try with 'UTF8' or 'WE8MSWIN1252')
Is there a way with the SQL Server collation ???
How can I solve his problem ???

The select query returns the following infos :
    PARAMETER VALUE
    NLS_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII
My colleague uses the 10.2.0.1.0 client with ODAC 10.2.0.2.20.
His SQL Server linked server is 2000 with the SQL_Latin1_General_CP437_BIN (he tried the use of the distant NLS_LANG option and the no set the NLS_LANG too with no results).

  • Migration from of database and app from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g

    Hello Every body,
Lately, I have been requested to migrate one inhouse developed hub application from SQL server 2005 to Oracle 10g. The objective is to move application and also the database to Oracel 10g.
    Here is the current platform:
    OS Win 2008 64 bit
    JDK 1.4.2
    JBoss 3.2.5
    EJB 2.1
My question is what kind of issues you guys see in above upgrade. As far I know, Schema and Database migration can be done by Oracle workbench. Oracle 10g supports JDK 1.4. Oracle 10g also supports EJB 2.1.
Anything, I need to take into consideration or any risks or problems. I would like to list down all the risks, and accordingly, I am thinking of start the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Zeeshan Qureshi

In general the Java/J2EE application needs work in the following categories:
    1. Connection Settings: Use Oracle JDBC drivers, create new data sources, connection pools and what not. Disable AUTOCOMMIT for Oracle JDBC Connections.
    2. For EJBs, you should regenerate the entity beans because some object names/column names might have changed in oracle.
    3. Any custom SQL that is in use in the EJBs will have to be ported to Oracle just as you would do in stored procedures and other applications.
    4. For Java front-ends, if you are using callouts to stored procedures and expecting result sets then they will require some changes. You need to modify the stored procedure call signature to include the REF CURSOR variables and process them.
    5. Changes to any SQL Server specific database functions manipulating character/date data will be required.
    6. CLOB/BLOB/XML apis are different across databases so if you are using those then focus on them as well.
    7. Retreiving Auto/generated keys from database also may need changes from what I have seen.
    Hope this helps..
    Regards
    Prakash

  • Faster way to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g

We have to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10 g.
One particular table on SQL Server has records around 1.25 millions.
We tried moving data using DTS package, but looks it will take hours with current speed of 300 records/minute.
This table has TEXT column, which has XML strings stored. I am not sure, if this is the reason for slow migration.
Would you please suggest better options to migrate it faster?
    Thanks in advance !!!

Have you tried Migration work bench?

  • Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to an xml file?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if somebody could help with regards to the following:
Generating XML from SQL queries and saving to a xml file?
We want to have a procedure(PL/SQL) that accepts an order number as an input parameter(the procedure
is accessed by our software on the client machine).
Using this order number we do a couple of SQL queries.
My first question: What would be our best option to convert the result of the
    queries to xml?
Second Question: Once the XML has been generated, how do we save that XML to a file?
(The XML file is going to be saved on the file system of the server that
    the database is running on.)
Now our procedure will also have a output parameter which returns the filename to us. eg. Order1001.xml
Our software on the client machine will then ftp this XML file(based on the output parameter[filename]) to
    the client hard drive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanking you,
    Francois

If you are using 9iR2 you do not need to do any of this..
You can create an XML as an XMLType using the new SQL/XML operators. You can insert this XML into the XML DB repository using DBMS_XDB.createResource. You can then access the document from the resource. You can also return the XMLType containing the XML directly from the PL/SQL Procedure.

Read XML from a hardware sensor file into ODI
    Hi,
I am trying to extract xml data from a flowmeter that generates XML data.
The xml file is found in http://ip_address/history.xml
I’ve defined my Topology as such
    JDBC Driver: com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.SnpsXmlDriver
    JDBC URL: jdbc:snps:xml?f=http://192.168.0.202/history.xml&ro=true
Please note to access the file I have to supply a username and password so I did in the definition But when testing my setup I get an error:
ava.sql.SQLException: The DTD file "http://192.168.0.202/history.dtd" doesn't exist: Server redirected too many times (20)
Please note I cannot write dtd to the device as it is a read only device.
Has anyone came across such an issue, how can I achieve this.
    Thanks

    Hi David,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I've tried this jdbc url
    jdbc:snps:xml?f=http://192.168.0.202/history.xml&d=c:\temp\history.dtd
but when I test the connection i get the following error
java.sql.SQLException: While generating the DTD from the XML file, a java.io.IOException exception occurred saying: Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: http://192.168.0.202/history.xml
If I browse http://192.168.0.202/history.xml and i supply the username and password I get an xml page.
I've supplied the username and password in the definition tab of the Data Server windows but still getting the above error.
    THanks

I would notice   you that T-SQL does not play well to do things like that. Do not you want using .net language to delete folders?
    Old method is
    declare @HR int, @CFOLDER varchar(255),@FSO int
        set @CFOLDER='D:\folder\'
        EXEC @HR = sp_OACreate 'Scripting.FileSystemObject', @FSO OUT
        EXEC @HR = sp_OAMethod @FSO, null, 'DeleteFolder', @CFOLDER
Now regarding to your second question please examine xp_fileexist  system stored procedure
    CREATE FUNCTION dbo.fn_file_exists(@filename VARCHAR(300))

    AS
    BEGIN
      DECLARE @file_exists AS INT
