Reading a String with dynamic format.

Hello,
I'm learning Java and I'm relatively new to the scene. I decided to make a small free utility with the hope that it will help somebody. The utility is a Game Server (Call of Duty 4) connector that will help Administrators to connect to the server and execute commands without the need of running the game.
I have made a progress so far by searching these (very useful) forums but I came across a point that I can't by pass.
The only way to learn "Who Is" from the server is the rcon command "status". Using this command the server returns you the current map and the players playing with all their information. This is the part of the code that I need help at:

}I've been messing a lot with the code. +_What I want to do is to read this string that the server is sending,split it, and then place it in a 2D Array that I will attach on a table._+ So far I've made the StringTokenizer method to be able to , kind of, sort that String and put it in an array. However I usually get outofbounds errors because not always the lines have the same length. In addition some nicknames contain spaces something that makes me wonder how I can set the nicknames to belong to the same position of the array. Something that i know is that all nicknames end with "^7" which is the in-game colour definition. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I was assuming you'd be processing the split string anyways, and not just tossing it into your 2-d structure. If you want to use .split(), yes. you would need to merge those cells into the original name. System.arrayCopy() would likely be useful for doing most of the heavy lifting.
Another option you have is to tokenize the string using Scanner. That would let you pull each column out of the string individually. You'll need to populate the array manually (instead of just using what .split() gives you), but allows you to change the token delimiter between pulls.
As for the junk lines, I can just check if they don't much the tokens number and then just not add them to the array I suppose, am I right or....?That's certainly one option. I don't know what's being given back to you, it may be important.

Look at the API for java.io.StreamTokenizer. In particular, look at the return type for nextToken().

Failure to read multiline string with Read Key.vi

I converted 2D array into a spreadsheet string and attempetd to write it as a key value into a configuration file. This worked just fine. However, when I attempted to read this multiline string using Read Key.vi, I got just the first line in return (see two vi's attached).
As sufficient documentation on configuration file vi's is all but missing, could you please advise on their (undocumented) features? What do I miss?

I use Config files all the time. Much more user-friendly than the
Registry. They are a Microsoft thing really, rather than LabView, and
come from Windows 3.11. Each value is limited to one line, so when you
write a spreadsheet string with end-of-line characters in it, you're
effectively breaking the .inf file
The solution? Try putting a "Search and Replace String
" after your
"Array To Spreadsheet String". Wire "Replace All" with a TRUE constant,
and wire "Search String" with a string in "\" view and enter \r\n (or do
0A0D in Hex view) and then then wire Replace String with a ";"
Now your .inf file will look like:
[Array]
Data=1.0000,0.0000,0.0000;0.0000,2.0000,0.0000;0.0000,0.0000,3.0000;
When reading it, just reverse the search and replace strings above.

Turning sql string (with dynamic columns) into a pipelined function

I was working on an apex report the other day, and wrote the sql below (for those who don't know apex well, in an apex report you can define the columns at runtime.) When I was finished, I said to myself: "It would be great to have a pipeline function with this capability." So, the idea would be to have a sql string where the columns are created dynamically, depending on input parameters - and then be able to use this sql everywhere (oracle reports, sqlplus) through a pipelined function.
Here's the sql (simplified, of course, the data itself is actually not important - the LOOP is the key)

I have tried feeding this sql into a ref cursor and an object, but always received an "inconsistent datatypes" message.

(I am not paying too much attention to syntax here.)

Reading a String with Scanner and ignoring whitespace

Hi,
This has probably been asked a million times, and I've searched Google and these forums, but I haven't found an answer that works for me.
I have some class that needs to read user input from the command line, so I figured I'd use Scanner, since I've seen it used umpteen-hundred times in all the "do my homework" threads. I want to print out some line to the terminal, which will prompt the user to enter something. The user should then enter something and hit enter, and the Scanner should store the input in a variable of sorts.
I've tried using Scanner.nextLine(), but that does not block for user input and the program terminates. I've tried Scanner.next() which does block for user input and allows the user to input something, but I cannot find a way to read the entire String; it will stop reading when it reaches whitespace. I've tried using a delimiter, but that seems to terminate the program when I prompt for the input, similar to Scanner.nextLine().
Here's what I have at the moment:

String name = scanner.next();
System.out.println("Command entered: " + name);The above code will work if the command is only one word, e.g. "connect". If the command is more than one word, it will only store the first word in the name variable. Again, I've tried using a delimiter for whitespace, but that hasn't worked.
Is there a way to solve this problem? Perhaps I need to use another tool to read user input from the terminal? Am I just missing something? Do I need to explain more?

Or you can use Set-Content like in mjolinor's example, or just pipe to out-file like I suggested, but in both cases you'd need to enclose the get-content in parentheses:

Make sure it works as expected then change the filename to file.txt or test it without piping it to file by reviewing it in the console first. Do you have multiple dates on any lines of your text file? If not, the other answers are more appropriate.

Any idea how I can include in a JSP page a String attribute of a bean, so that the format included in the String is being interpreted?
example:
String htmlCode = "<td> textext </td>"
it should display: "textext" (which I will put inside a <tr> </tr>)
something like <tr> <c:out value="${SessionBean.htmlText}"/> </tr>
but c:out is also displaying the TD's...

Formatting incoming string with date/time classes?

Hello,
In the software I am writing currently I am @ a certain point talking to an external device. sending requests, receiving responses.
One of the things I find in the response is "20090429094222", as a string.
I cannot change anything to that, thats the way I get it from the device, so thats where I'll have to start with.
As you could probably guess this is a date and a time. Now my question. Is there a good way to format this from 20090429094222
to
2009-04-29 09:42:22
using date and or time classes, not using String operations?

I found a class containing 2 functions who do exactly what I need, for those intrested:

Formatting a string with Display String

I have a field in my database that is a string with numbers in it and I need it formatted like so: "xx-xx-xx-xxx" nine characters long.
For example: 92438014
I need it to look like: 09-24-38-014

can anyone help me with some code that will do this for me? I'm not the best at crystal custom formatting.

I needed a way to format a 9-digit number string into a standard Social Security number format. I used your formula from above, and WOW - it worked! If I could award you double Forum Points, I would. The additions let you hide intermediate characters, search from and to a particular position, and convert the found string into uppercase. In Unicode programs, you must specify whether the statement is a character or byte operation, using the IN BYTE MODE or IN CHARACTER MODE (default) additions.

Error while opening pdf in reader in windows 8:Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format

I have a problem with a pdf file which does not open with reader in windows 8 but it opens properly with adobe pdf reader. All other pdf can be opened in reader.But when i open a pdf(see this link for pdf for which i got error http://incometaxsoft.com/temp/Form.pdf)
it gives error as "Can't open this file. There's a problem with file format".
The same file opens properly in adobe pdf reader.You can check the pdf file which i have mentioned in the link above.But the reader which comes with windows 8 can open some other pdf in the same PC.What may be the error causing this??

This has turned out to be an enormous issue for me as I sell PDF files as ebooks. I have done a fair amount of investigating this for my system.
My files have to be compatible not just across readers but across operating systems.
To date, I have over 200 PDFs that have functioned flawlessly across Mac, PC (Windows 7 and below), Android, iPhone/iPad, Linux.
I personally test my PDFs using a variety of readers and PDF editors including
PDF XChange (my favorite)
Foxit (runner up for me and I recommend for most people)
Adobe (the bloated monster)
Nitro 9 (great for moving graphical elements around)
ABBYY
And the Nuance PDF Create toolsets
Those are off the top of my head. There are a bunch on Android that I test with too.
I am running the Windows 10 Pro Tech Preview and I have this same problem so I know it isn't fixed yet in any kind of pre-release way (-sigh-)
Here is what I've learned for my situation
The PDFs I created using NUANCE'S PDF CREATE PROFESSIONAL VERSION 8
all fail using the built-in Windows 8/10 PDF reader.
When I look at the PDF properties for these Nuance created files, the underlying engine used to write them is called "ImageToPDF". Using ABBYY it indicates their own engine as does everyone else that I've tried. It is easy for you to check to see
what created your PDF by doing a "Control D" (look at the document properties). Perhaps there's a common engine causing issues.
If I use the exact same source files to create a PDF using any of my other tools I have no issues. I checked the PDF versions made by the tools and they are all set to 1.5.
A customer mentioned being able to convert them in a way they worked by saving them without having to do any kind of extraction, but I have not been able to duplicate that. Perhaps he did a "print" which seems like it could work.
In summary, the workaround everyone is talking about, using an alternate reader, of course works. But not everyone wants to change.
The culprit I have found is my Nuance PDF Creation tools that are using the ImageToPDF engine.
I hope it gets FIXED as I really don't want to have to regenerate all of my PDF files.

Reading a String Literally - Finding the "\" Character with a Regex

How do I search for "\" characters in a string? Such as..
String text = "Temp\temp.txt";
The problem is that Java will read "\t" as a tab, so that
System.out.println(text);
Will return
Temp emp.txt
Also, searching for the regex "\\\\" will return a null result, presumably because Java interprets the "\t" as a tab character, not as a literal "\" followed by a literal "t".
How do I get Java to read the string without interpreting it?

Formatting a string with time stamp and double precision numbers

This is a format string that I have in old code that I've decided to change. Problem is I cannot make sense of the string codes in my own old code! Let me explain what I want, and hopefully someone can explain how to do it.
I am using the format into string subvi to merge a time stamp (formatted as %m%d%Y%H%M%S%5u) and two different double precision numbers. This string is then wired into the Write Characters to File subvi so that I can record data as a .txt file, and open it in either Matlab or Excel. There is a minor problem with the string format above because in excel the first time stamp entry is blank, and the first loop only gives the two double precision numbers withouth the time stamp - the time stamp appears in the next loop (probably a looping issue and not due to the string format, but if you see differently please let me know). Now what I want to do is 1. potentially fix that problem and 2. add some more doubles.
1. Is there a string format issue that is evident that I am not seeing that causes the time stamp to be formatted into the string after a carriage return? Or should I be looking at looping issues?
2. How do I add another one - three floating point numbers (double precision)? Are the \'s marking different numbers in this string constant? Or is it the %? I can't find any information about the \'s, but I see that % begins the format specifier.
Ideally, I want these data in the following columns: Date, Time(absolute), FP, FP, FP, carriage return for the next loop (FP is floating point double precision number).

Here there is no need of string concordinate function (in your code), the same result you can find if you connect the output of the format string to shift register, and shift register in data to initialize string connector in format into string function.
