Reading an Alphanumeric field

Hi,  I have imported from an Excel spreadsheet 3 fields   1. Name  2. Forename and 3. results.
the first two fields are obviously string fields but the results field is an Alphanumeric (general) field, which has numbers and letters corresponding to exam results. Crystal reports reads the field as a String because the first few cells in the spreadsheet are blank, if I put numbers in the cells then it reads it as a Number fields and ignores the letters.  Is there any way to force Crystal to read both numbers and letters.
Thanks
Dave Pickett

It is actually an issue with Excel and there is an MS knowledge base article on this and a script that can be run.
The MS KB number is KB208414

  • How to right align a read only numeric field in a panel form layout

Hi, does anyone know how to right align a read only numeric field in a panel form layout? I am using: Style Class = AFFieldNumberMarker, but it only seems to work if the field is disabled. Disabling the field gives it a difference appearance that does not look right on our forms. These are calculated fields, which cannot be modified, so read only is necessary.
I have looked online for some answers, and it seems that others are having similar issues.
I have tried different combinations for the properties, but so far I cannot get it to work.

  • OVS on read-only input field

OVS will not allow me to change the value of a read-only input field.  If the input field is set to read-only, the OVS selection table does not display an 'OK' button, only close.
Value cannot be copied (field is not editable)
I do not want the field to be editable on the screen, but only allow input via the selected row in the OVS.  Any suggestions?

Using Dictionary Search Help and OVS in this case will disable the Copy button and you don't have any control.

    Hasan,
You have few options, based on the route you want to take"
    1) You could control the "Visbility" of the fields, via using a feature like
    Target Audiences .
However, this may not  control the same custom field on the page based on user permissions.
    2) Use JavaScript: https://badalratra.wordpress.com/2013/05/04/how-to-disable-pdp-custom-fields-using-javascript/
    3) Jquery: http://epmainc.com/blog/locking-custom-fields-pdp-project-server-2013-using-jquery
    4) Customization: https://epmxperts.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/secure-pdp-pages-as-per-project-server-security/
    5) You could look into a third part product, by Fluent Pro: https://help.fluentpro.com/pdp_manager/start
I realize these may not be exactly what you need, but with some effort, I am sure you could modify the code and reuse.

  • Maintaining Numeric Values in Alphanumeric field of Material Master

    Hello Everyone!
Currently we are in midst of an SAP Project implementation. The problem arising is that we are using External Number for material codes which has already been used by the business in the legacy system. So the material code field has been set to Alphanumeric data type.
During the data upload of material master a problem has been identified that some of the material codes that needs to be uploaded are number in nature or start with a numeral e.g 1234-5674-9, 1234-9876-D. While creating them the system generates the following error.
Number 1234-5674-9 not defined for material type ICI PNT - Trading Goods
    Message no. M3318
    Diagnosis
Every material type has a speific number range for external number assignment. The material number you have entered does not lie within the number range for this material type.
    Procedure
Choose a material number that lies within the number range of your material type.
Is there a way through which we can maintain such external numbers with Alphanumeric field.
    - Best Regards

    Hi Khalid,
You assign as follows for external number range to your group
    From Number                                      to Number                                                                                EXT
    A                                                         ZZZZZZZZ( enter the number
characters( Z) as required for your client)                                    Tick the Ext box
By this setting you can assign ALPHA NUMERICAL external numbers
    Cheers

  • No read access to field string MKPF in SLIN

    Hi Friends,
while checking my program through extended program check it is giving warning message as "No read access to field string MKPF" in the TABLES statement. How to correct this?

    Hi
The system is just only giving warning as if said to you:
    - Hey Abaper! You have declared to use the headerline of MKPF, but perhaps you aren't using it. Check your code and if you don't use you delete that declaretion.
So if you don't use MKPF in your program, you can delete the declaretion, if you use it you can do nothing or you put the string "#EC NEEDED at the end of declaretion. If you do it, while checking program through extend program check, the system skips that message and doesn't show you.
We often use header line of dictionary table only to do an existence query, in this case the system can give that warning message.
    For example:
    TABLES: BKPF.
SELECT SINGLE * FROM BKPF WHERE BUKRS = P_BUKRS
                                AND BELNR = P_BELNR
                                AND GJAHR = P_GJAHR.
    IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
      WRITE: 'Hello'.
    ENDIF.
So I made a query on bkpf, but after I haven't read or used its headerline, so the system give me that message.
    If I write:
SELECT SINGLE BUKRS FROM BKPF INTO P_BUKRS
                              WHERE BUKRS = P_BUKRS
                                AND BELNR = P_BELNR
                                AND GJAHR = P_GJAHR.
    IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
      WRITE: 'Hello'.
    ENDIF.
I've done the same thing but now I haven't declared to use the headerline BKPF and so the system won't give me that warning message.

  • MATLOC_SET() - Issues when changing alphanumeric fields

    Hi All,
I want to enable planner to quickly change safety stock settings for advanced safety stock calculation and recalculate the safety stocks through a macro button in the planning book.
One part of this is to set the safety stock method. I am using the following code.
    MATLOC_SET(
    'MSDP_SB_METHOD' ;
    CHAR_VALUES_INPUT( 'Enter_Safety_Stock_Settings' ;
    'Safety_Stock_Method:'
    ACT_PRODUCT ;
    ACT_LOCATION ;
    ACT_VERSION
But it does not work. whenever I enter anything the field is set to zero.
I have tried the same code for the service level and other numeric fields and it works fine.
With other alphanumeric fields like ABC indicator it also does not work. This seems to be an issue with alphanumeric versus numeric fields, but I am not sure how to fix the error, because I can only find the operation MATLOC_SET() as an option to change product-location specific product master fields.
    Please help.
    Thank you,
    Maria

    Hello Maria,
You can use the macro function:
SB_BETA_POINT() - for adv safety stock method BS.
SB_ALPHA_CYCLE()- for adv safety stock method AT
SB_ALPHA_POINT()- for adv safety stock method AS.
SB_BETA_CYCLE()- for adv safety stock method BT.
    The syntax would be(if BS):
SB_BETA_POINT( service level ; demand forecast ; forecast error demand (%) ; replenishment lead time ; forecast error replenishment lead time (%) ; days' supply ) returns the safety stock level for the Beta service level according to the point method.
To get the values for Service level,: demand forecast ; forecast error demand (%) ; replenishment lead time ; forecast error replenishment lead time (%) ; days' supply you can use the the function MATLOC()
You can store the values of the fields in auxillary KF and then call these in SB_BETA_POINT()
The above method can be used to run interactively only and not in background.
    Thanks,Bopanna

  • Options for read/write form field data with VBA/Reader

I have a project which requires reading and writing field data to a PDF form using VBA in PowerPoint. The code I have works properly with the full version of Acrobat, but the client this project is for will be using Reader. I'm looking for suggestions to what options I have to be able to access the form field data (I don't need any other features other than access to the field data). Ideally, I would love a solution which doesn't require the client to install anything extra for this to work, but I'm assuming that this isn't possible without an extra install.
Is there a library that exists in Reader (or could be licensed to be installed on the client's machine) that would allow the data to be read without needing the full version of Acrobat?
Does a plug-in exist for Reader, or could be written, that would allow this? Writing a plug-in would certainly be beyond my current capabilities, but I am interested in knowing every and any choices that are available.
Are there any other options to do what I need to do?
I had originally thought about exporting the form data and parsing it in the VBA program, but this would take a bit more work to write the parsing routine instead of accessing the fields directly. Plus, it appears to me that Exporting is not enabled in Reader.
Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide.

Thanks for the response; this was my original suggestion, but I don't think this is feasable for our client. I suggested to our account people that this might be the only way to do this (and the easiest, although possibly the costliest since it would have to be purchased for their entire sales force) and they initially said that this would not be an option, so I wanted to be able to cover all the bases, and explore any other ways that they could do what they want. Is this the absolute only option to do this?
Someone also suggested to me that licensing the Acrobat PDF Library SDK might be a way to do this, or that it could possibly be done with a plug-in for Reader (although from what I have found, Reader plug-ins would have to be approved by Adobe). These options, if possible, are beyond my current knowledge but I do want to be able to give them a complete list of possibilities.
    Thanks again.

  • "Master Data Read Class Parameters" field is disabled

    Hi.
While creating infoobject I switch master data access from Default to Own implementation,
after this screen is redisplayed  and only Name of Master Data Read Class field become enabled.
I need  Master Data Read Class Parameters field, but it is disabled and button near this field has the same status.
Why? How to make them active?

    Hi,
I think it is not possible to add own Master Data Class if the reference is 0DATE or if the type is DATS.
So may be you can create your infoobject as Type CHAR, Length 8.
May be you can add a Conversion Routine for the required format of date to be displayed.
