I am working in an mvc model one
architecture and I need to check wether
a particular software is installed on
the client machine using a request.
How can I do it

It should be problem with the file permissions in your client machine ???Hardly.
@OP: a servlet executes at the server. It doesn't haved any access whatsoever to the client machine.

How to open pdfs directly in acrobat reader client side without using browser

When I sent a request to the pdf through servlet
the requested pdf is coming in a browser , but I want it to open in acrobat reader only . Is it possible ?

Yes you can open in acroread. I am not sure about syntax. Cheak it in API's of java.lang.
It is somehow like this.
System.exec("<location of acroread>",<pdf file name>);

What is the Client system & Output Client system when using Generic vendor BW map in Syndicator. Can anybody throw some light on it & how to change the client system in Map Properties Tab.

I don't think you can change the client system on the syndicatio map. What you can do, is open de syn map with the predefined client system, then export the map into an external file (for instance, c:\mySyn.syn)
Afterwards, open Syndicator again, select the client system you want, and import the map (c:\mySyn.syn). This should transport the syn mappings into the new client system

Using servlets to read from text file and insert data

Hi,
Can I use a servlet to read from a space delimited text file on the client computer and use that data to insert into a table in my database? I want to make it easy for my users to upload their data without having to have them use SQL*Loader. If so can someone give me a hint as how to get started? I appreciate it.

Create a page for the user to upload the file to your webserver and send a message (containing the file location) to a server app that will open the file, parse it, and insert it into your database. Make sure you secure the page.

Have the user paste the file into a simple web form that submits to a servlet that parses the data and inserts it into your db.

Try to trace at ICM level, Go to smicm transaction
Set level to 3.
Later send your request. Finally trace the request in:
When you have seen the log, check if any exception is raised with your request or the request and share it here.

How can I use Servlets on Sun Java System WebServer 6.1

I have just downloaded, and installed "Sun One Java System Web Server 6.1" on WindowsXP. This is installed and working properly on my system. But I want to use Servlet technology on this server, even I did download it just for working on servlets. Before it, I was using typical JavaWebServer2.0 for this purpose.
Any ways.
Can any one tell me, how can I do this on "Java System Web Server 6.1".

Actually I have installed it since 2 days, and have read throughly the documentation of WebServer, But Only the Link for this purpose is provided "Programmer's Guide to Web Applications", Now I have just searched for it and found only "Programmer's Guide" .PDF format. I have just read it out now, But here also provided a small refference to see "Programmer's Guide to Web Applications". Now I have just the problem that where to find it.
Please, tell me if you have some solution to my problem
or atleast tell me where to find the refference "Programmer's Guide to Web Applications". I tried but only found "Programmer's Guide" for Sun Web Server 6.1.

10g client install -- "Error in accessing system registry"

Yes, I am the administrator - there is just one account on my machine and it is me.
I am attempting to install 10g client in hopes of fixing another problem. Everything is a problem it seems.
When I launch setup.exe I get ...
"Error in accessing system registry. You may not have enough permissions to modify registry. Installation cannot continue."
My environment is ... Windows 7 Pro, I do have an Oracle Express Edition installed but since I am having a 32-bit vs. 64-bit issue with an app I am developing in C# 2008 Express, I thought I would try installing the 64-bit 10g standard edition client.

I had to open a command prompt with Administrator privileges. I was tipped off by your link which had paragraph 1.4 Managing User Accounts with User Account Control and states,
To ensure that only trusted applications run on your computer, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 provide User Account Control. If you have enabled this security feature, then, depending on how you have configured it, Oracle Universal Installer prompts you for either your consent or your credentials when installing Oracle Database. Provide either the consent or your Windows Administrator credentials as appropriate.
You must have Administrator privileges to run some Oracle tools, such as Database Configuration Assistant, Net Configuration Assistant, and OPatch, or to run any tool or application that writes to any directory within the Oracle home. If User Account Control is enabled, and you are logged in as the local Administrator, then you can successfully run each of these commands in the usual way. However, if you are logged in as "a member of the Administrator group," then you must explicitly invoke these tasks with Windows Administrator privileges. All the Oracle shortcuts that require Administrator privileges will be invoked as "Administrator" automatically when you click the shortcuts. However, if you run the above tools from a Windows command prompt, you must run them from an Administrator command prompt. OPatch does not have a shortcut and has to be run from an Administrator command prompt.
I followed the instructions concerning the elevated command prompt and then tried the Oracle 10g standard edition client install. I got past the registry problem but then I ran into a Universal Installer 10.2 problem. A window popped up stating, "Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occurred. Please provide the following files to Oracle Support:"

"Unknown"
Maybe that is due to 10g not being supported on Windows 7. So NOW I will try 11gR2. :-)

Reading locale system properties like set-variables of a windows Client

is there a possibility to read locale system properties like set-variables of a windows Client?
We want to read path-Info and user-info. Can I perhaps user javascript?

You can't really run it from WD, but what you can do is run this code from a portal component (DynPage/JspDynPage) that is running in the same page as your WD application and pass data by using portal eventing.
The portal component iview can have size of 1 pixel so it won't be seen...

Adobe Acrobat vs Reader on client systems

Has anyone tried running the Adobe forms on a browser client system that has both full Acrobat and Reader accessing a webdynpro/adobe forms application ? What results did you get? What is the recommended situation for handling this type of client?

what happens with this setup depends on your Acrobat/Reader versions.
If you have the currently released 6.0.2 versions, the standard behaviour is that Acrobat opens.
If you want Reader to open instead, you'll need to use the Windows functions for File Type assignment under Folder Options -> File Types and assign Reader there. (It's described in the Adobe Document Services Configuration Guide.) This also means that if you want to use Acrobat for other files, you'll need to open Acrobat first to open the PDF.
(A workaround would be to keep Reader running in the background before opening the WD application with the form.)
As of the end of December, Adobe will ship Reader 7, which will allow you to determine your standard PDF opening tool through a dialogue, if you have both Acrobat and Reader installed.

How to read security certificates from registry using java 1.4

Hi All,
I installed one Security certificate in IE browser. that certificate is UNExportable which contains private keys which are imported to use while server cuommunication.
Now have to send that certificate for authentication to vendor server using java(J2SDK 1.4).I tried allways to do cummunication but filed due to unabalability of private key.
Here I want to read that certificate from windows sertificate registry store which is installed from IE.
Is there any way to read IE installed certificates using java. If so please provide me that code.
Its very URGENT for me.....please help

while exporting the certificate the am able to export only public keys, private key option is disabled. but those private keys are very important for my communication. I should pass those private keys to vendor for authentication purpose.

There is no java class for reading event log in windows, so we can do one thing we can use windows system 32 VBS script to read the system log .
The output of this command can be read using java program....
we can use java exec for executing this system32 vbs script.
