Really, Really, REALLY complex Tween Question

Ok, this is the BIG one: I have a motion tween, moving a single graphic forward & backward on an even plane, comprised of six keyframes. I built this animation about a year ago. Now I want to add a keyframe thirty frames after the last keyframe in the timeline for this tween, and I want to position the graphic being animated so that on that last keyframe, it is positioned off the screen to the right. So I put in my new keyframe, put the playhead on that keyframe, then click & drag the symbol off to the right of the stage. That should do it, right? All the other keyframes should be holding their positions with the symbol where it was before on those keyframes, right. But they aren't. They've all moved proportionately to the position of the new keyframe I put in, thirty frames farther along the timeline. I've been pulling my hair out for 45 minutes, trying everything available in this interface (yes, including the roving keyframes toggle), and CANNOT find whatever it takes to have those earlier keyframes hold the symbol in the previous positions when I try and add another animation segment to the path.
Seems like having the symbols stay in position with previous keyframes would be the default, doesn't it? Any ideas on how to add a new keyframe, move the symbol on the stage to a new position on that new keyframe, and have all the other keyframes hold their positions?
Pretty complex, huh? Shouldn't be, should it?

I have no experience with them, but what you describe wanting would work with the Classic version.
If you don't want to switch to them, then you could always have a new layer for the new sequence so that you can be sure the other is not going to influence it.

Note: Many Apple applications that were originally installed on your Mac are integrated in the operating system, and it is not recommended to remove them.
Protecting from viruses on Mac OS X is debated topic. I am one of many that still do not think we need virus protection, at this time. Opinions differ. If you do a search on these Discussions on the subject you will find a great deal of debate. If you want to protect your Mac from viruses, you cannot do better than the donationware clamXav.
As for cleaning your laptop up, there is not much to do. The best system maintenance guide is Here.
The one question you did not ask about is backup. This is the most important question of all, if you value your data. The best single method of backup is a bootable clone of your system. I use SuperDuper!. You can read all about backing up OS X here.

Really dumb and probably easy question

Hey everyone. This is prob a very naive and seemingly stupid question, but how do I compile a package so that I get the .class files that I need to incorporate a library into my project? I downloaded this package I need, but it only has .java files in it. Im using Windows 95 and Borland Jbuilder.

You need to download the newest Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SETM) software. A release of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition version 1.4 software for Windows, Linux, and Solaris is now available to the Java community!
Follow this link to download it: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html
Once you get it, it can be a little tricky to install it. You may need to set you system's path setting differently depending on your OS.
Once you get this installed you can access the file you need by going into the directory, under your command prompt (go to run, then they cmd), the .java file is and type javac (for java complier) program name.java. This will turn it into a class file.
Example:
javac Lala.java -> Lala.class

Well.... not really programming but a simple question!

all my apps containing readLine() gives my this warning on compilation:
Note: testClass.java uses or overrides a deprecated API.
Note: Recompile with -deprecation for details.
and when compiling with -deprecation it says something like readLine should not be used anymore because a new replacement method should be used!
questions:
1. what method should be used instead?
2. how to use the method so that it acts exactly as readLine? examples would be great!

It would be good if you stated on which class this method is called. A good explication of deprecated methods is given in the API javadocs. E.g. one I found in the 1.4 JDK:
readLine() - Method in class java.io.DataInputStream
Deprecated. This method does not properly convert bytes to characters. As of JDK 1.1, the preferred way to read lines of text is via the BufferedReader.readLine() method. Programs that use the DataInputStream class to read lines can be converted to use the BufferedReader class by replacing code of the form:
DataInputStream d = new DataInputStream(in);
with:
BufferedReader d
= new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in));

The sound on my iPod touch is really quiet, really annoying!

The sound on my iPod touch is really quiet, and i have to have the volume up at least halfway just to be able to hear it, but once I get a notification, it goes back to normal, but only until I either go into the app, unlock my iPod or change the song. It started a while ago when I was playing a game and the game crashed. Ever since then it has been really quiet. It's not the headphones because I tried them with my computer and they worked perfectly fine.

Try the standared fixes
- Reset. Nothong is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Delete the app that may have caused the problem.
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPoc

Cant open apps, really slow, really long pauses, error 50 messages (i don't think it's in root user it didn't give a disable option)??

Hi! My macbook pro is barely working suddenly and I dont know whats wrong. It's not allowing me to open most programs or only one at a time, even trying to type a sentence it keeps pausing for moments at a time. I have recieved error 50 messages about most tasks. This just started today and I tried to disable root user but it wasn't enabled or didn't give an option. If anyone has suggestions or similar problem today I'd really appreciate it! Thanks,

Any changes recently, hardware or software?
Do you have at least 15% free space on your HD?
Is your RAM being recognized? (Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > Memory)
Have you looked in Activity Monitor?
Sometimes a process can run amok and use more of the CPU than it should, potentially causing a slowdown and/or heat issues and/or other issues. To check on this, first use your Mac as you normally would, the longer the better (checking this right after starting up may not show you anything). After you’ve used your Mac for awhile (again, the longer the better), go to Applications > Utilities > open Activity Monitor > in the top menu at right, select All Processes in the drop down menu > click on the column heading titled % CPU (this will update continuously, showing the percentage each process is using) > toward the bottom left of the window, click on CPU (this will show % Idle, which will also tell you how much of the CPU is being used).
How much RAM do you have?
One way to get an idea whether more RAM will help or not, is to check Page outs and Swap used. First, use your Mac as you normally would, the longer the better (checking this right after starting up isn’t likely to show you anything). After you’ve used your Mac for awhile(again, the longer the better), go to Applications > Utilities > open Activity Monitor > in the top menu at right, select All Processes in the drop down menu > near the bottom of the window click on System Memory. Have you repaired permissions? Repaired disk? Reset SMC?

I have been having issues with downloading and updating apps on my iPod 4th gen. How do I fix this? It's getting really old really fast.

So yeah, this has been going on the past week. When I tap to upload my apps, some update right away, but others won't. Sometimes they will dowload half way, sometimes they won't at all, what causes them to stop is this little message that pops up saying, "This app cannot be downloaded at this time." and it gives you options 'Done' or 'Retry." Instinctively I hit retry. Through the course of the day I did this, I kept hitting retry, and eventually all the apps that were updating, updated, but not very effieciently. All apps updated, except for one, Facebook. No matter how anytimes I hit retry, it wouldn't update. I got real sick and tired of it, so I deleted it. I decided to go through everything and delete old apps, pictures, music, thinking that I didn't have enough space. I go to download an app I've already had to test this theory out: Still doesn't work. The stupid thing won't even TRY to download. So, is there any way I can fix this without taking a sledgehammer to my iPod? Because, honestly, I am severly ticked off at how stubborn this is. Please help. Before my patience runs out and I break this thing.

My mac freezes just for a second about every two seconds and it gets really hot really fast?

When i am watching a video or just scrolling on a webpage, even typing, there is a small glitch ever 1-2 seconds where everything freezes just for a second. Its almost as if its lagging all the time. I have tried every utility and cant figure it out. Also, it gets pretty hot pretty fast, even when im doing much on it. Are these two things related? how do i fix it?

If you can, visit an Apple Store. Before you do, set up the phone "as new device" without using the backup afterwards, described here: How to back up your data and set up as a new device

Fan comes on really loud really often?

kinda bothersome to have this fan always coming on so loud. temp seems in the range of normal (b/t 40 and 47c hd and between 56 and 63c for "cpu a temperature diode"). comes on at random times. happens sometime when running processor intensive apps. happens other times when running routing tasks in ilife apps.
is there anything wrong with the computer? is there a quick and safe fix for this? i'm running 10.4.9

It’s not uncommon for the fan to cycle during processor intense periods such as running games, video rich content, etc. As a side note, ensure that you’re running the latest battery update as listed below.
If the problem continues during normal operation, then contact AppleCare and have the condition logged on file and/or receive resolution.

Complex Query Question-ADF/JSP/10g

I have a query in a VO that I'm programmatically creating the where clause for that has been working fine.
I need to extend the functionality to include other tables. I had thought that adding a union to my programmatically generated SQL would work, but it fails at execution. Apparently the environment adds a "select count(1) from(" to the front of my query to generate a row output count, and then closes the parenthesis in the wrong place, which causes the query to fail with an "ORA-00933 SQL command not properly ended".
How can I accomplish this? I've looked at creating a new VO which includes multiple tables, but what I really need is a union of output from the single primary table with multiple from and where that are dynamically generated based upon user input.

Tomcat 5.0.* global JNDI database connect pooling. complex config question

Ok. I can't get global connection pooling to work in tomcat 5.0.24. (I am running windows xp pro)
I am using MySQL (installed on the same machine) and I have succesfully worked through the tutorial titled "MySQL DBCP Example" found at http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
This example does not demonstrate global connection pooling, however. I want to share a single connection pool across all my web applications. I don't want a different connection pool for each webapp.
So I define the connection pool JDBC resource in the conf/server.xml file under the <GlobalNamingResources> element.
Here is the entire <GlobalNamingResources> element lifted from conf/server.xml:

</web-app>The last thing I need to do, I think, is to include a <resourceLink> element in the context.xml file for this webapp. Now in tomcat 5.0.* it is not recommended that the <context> element appear in the conf/server.xml file. Instead, as I understand it, it should appear in either of the two following places (for a webapp called DBTest):
$CATALINA_HOME/conf/[engine_name]/[host_name]/DBTest.xml
$CATALINA_HOME/webapps/DBTest/META-INF/context.xmlSince I would eventually like to package each webapp in its own war file, I prefer the second option above. This will enable me to place the context.xml file within the .war file. Currently, however, I am not using .war files.

I was not able to get it working exactly according to the tutorial, though. I was required to put the <context> element not in the conf/server.xml but in conf/Catalina/localhost/DBTest.xml. Then, with the DBTest/WEB-INF/web.xml as above, I was able to get the DBTest example working. The output of test.jsp (described above also) is the following:

Bar 12345I would like to be able to put the <context> element in webapps/DBTest/META-INF/context.xml (as I think should be allowed) because then I would be able to include it in a war file that encompassed the entire web application. If I am forced to put the <context> element in a subdirectory of the conf directory, then I cannot include it in a war file and I will be unable to just drop my war files in the webapps directory and go. Instead I will have to drop my war files in the webapps directory, then go and fiddle around with the xml files in conf/Catalina/localhost/
But if I move the <context> element into webapps/DBTest/META-INF/context.xml then the example stops working. When I put it back in conf/Catalina/localhost/DBTest.xml everything is fine again.
Ok, no big deal. I guess my war file deployment will just have to be a little more complicated.
But what if I want the resource to be global??? If I remove the <Resource> and <ResourceParams> elements from the webapp-specific <context> element and put them in the <GlobalNamingResource> element in the conf/server.xml file I should have a global resource, right? I did this, then added a resource link to the <context> element (see above), however, the example stops working. I have tried both with and without the <resource-ref> element in web.xml.
Can some remarkably intelligent and knowledgeable person please explain to me how global resources work in tomcat 5.0, especially global JDBC connection pooling.

Complex Average question

I was wondering if I could put the following requirement into a single member formula:I need to calculate the average value of a level 0 time member of the descendants of the current member.For example, If I select Qtr1, I need the average of Accounts Balance for the days (level 0) that make up Qtr1. Your question wasn't very clear, but if you only want to sort
them by the count in descending order, just ORDER BY 1 DESC.

Complex Update Question

I have 2 tables a and b. Both tables have columns have the same primary keys. How would I go about updating a subset of the rows of column a from a column in column b?
Update (select * from a inner join b on a.id b.id where b.some_column=some_value)
set a.some_other_column=b.some_other_column
where a.some_other_column_2=some_other_value;
Problem is, this statement is not a valid SQL Statement. Could anyone help me please?

I think the SELECT * is fine, at least, it works with a straight select. Although, it is bad practice to do that. You do need to have an operator of some kind in the join condition. Something like:
UPDATE (SELECT *
FROM a INNER JOIN b ON a.id = b.id
WHERE b.some_column=some_value)
SET a.some_other_column = b.some_other_column
WHERE a.some_other_column_2 = some_other_value;TTFN
