Rebuild folder structure

Fortunately this is in my test environment.
Wondering if there's any way to rebuild my primary domain folder
structure from the secondary domain.
I incorrectly updated a server with my primary domain and post office
from sles11sp2 to sles11sp3 via booting from installation media and not
updating oes at the same time. I know............IDIOT!!!!
Anyway, server is running, edir running, nss volumes there, just no
data on the volume with Groupwise on it.
Any suggestions, or am I destined to rebuild my test system from
scratch?

You should be able to do this from the secondary, assuming the secondary is also
GW 2014!
/opt/novell/groupwise/admin/gwadminutil/rebuild -d /path/to/secondary -n
nameofprimary -o /temp/path/primary/ -cd
so, the -d switch is for your domain database that exists. The -n switch is the
actual name of the primary domain. The -o switch is where you wish to create
the wpdomain.db and the -cd switch will create all of the necessary folders and
even include the .dc files etc.
Now, if your secondary is not GW 2014, I'm not sure if you can recover. But if
so, you would do it in ConsoleOne and do a "replace primary with secondary" -
you'd be back at the older version though if that worked, and then you'd need to
upgrade the primary.

• Saving folder structure after having to rebuild iPhoto library?

After my iPhoto library crashed I recreated it (by creating a "new" iPhoto library) and managed to save all pictures. However, the previously created folder structure is gone. Is there a way to get it back? It looks like it still technically exists in the original library but I can't access it, because iPhoto crashes everytime I try to open that one.
Thanks!

Did you try repair the old library?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

• Rebuilding a folder structure lost after restoring from backup

The external hard drive I was storing four years worth of photos on crashed the other day, and I learned the hard way that they weren't on the backup drive like I thought they were. Luckily I was able to recover at least most of them using FileSalvage. Unfurtunately, my ~15,000 images are now in three folders based on file type (JPG, TIF, DNG/NEF), don't have their original file names, and aren't in any particular order.
Is there any way short of manually sifting through the files for me to rebuild the year/month/day chronological folder structure I was storing them in?
I'm running Lightroom 4.0 on a OS X 10.8.4.

One option is to use Smart Collections to have Lightroom automatically put files into collections by either capture date or edit date.  You can create the collections by year, month, day, a range of dates, etc.  If you want to have four years of photos grouped by month, you'd have to create 48 Smart Collections for the 48 months (if you have photos captured or edited in all 48 months).
Then if you want to put them into Folders, just drag the Smart Collections to the appropriate Folders.  But note that this will move the files on your hard drive into corresponding folders as well.

• Hi. I am having trouble with the folder structure.

I import my pictures like probably most Lightroom users.
They go to:
Pictures / (Year)  / (Subfolder name crated checking "Into Subfolder" during import)
Recently, after upgrading to Yosemite, when I import to this structure, Lightroom creates a folder visually outside it. Above, the "01_Sao_Paulo" folder should appear inside 2015 while "12_Atacama" and "12_Hasselblad" under 2014. The right folders were actually created when I check them in Finder.
And when I try to move the folders under the right folder structure, Lightroom recognizes  that the folder already exists.
My question two questions are:
1. How do I make the folders appear correctly under the right folder structure?
2. How do I make Lightroom stop creating the folders outside the structure on my next imports?
Thanks for any help.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

• Trouble using cfincludes with multi-folder structure

We are rebuilding our site using <cfinclude> to pull in

Create the one header.cfm and the one footer.cfm. Include

• Folder Structure & Dates query

Hey all,
I'm new to the forum but have been using LIghtroom for a couple of years to organise and tweak my photos as an amateur.  I use predominatly a 5dmk2 for professional video and amateur photography.  I'm on a Macpro using Lightroom 3.  I have 4 internal drives on the MacPro, and one is a dedicated Lightroom drive, where I import all my photos to via lightroom.  This is my master catalog that I backup. The photos date back to 2003, and are all displyed by date in correct folders etc. Lovely and organised.
I also use a macbook pro, and occassionally have to merge catalogs.  I merga catalogs if I have tweaked the files on the macbook and want to add them to my master catalog complete with edits.  On occasions, when I simply want the photos to be a part of the master catalog, and to tweak them from there, I have simply imported the photos by connecting the macbook via firewire so it mounts as a disk.
What I have (on the drive) is largely how I want it, which is all photos on the drive organised by month and year as they were taken, as per the metadata for each image.  There are however a few folders that both annoy me from an OCD point of view, and also do not fall into the correct date folders and so cannot be so easily found and organise into colelctions etc.
The problem folders look like this:

The opened example folders shown in the image don't relate to dates at all - so the 2012 > 08 > 27 is not august 27th 2012. Just a folder with a load of images in it taken over a variety of dates.
Can anyone help me understand:
1 - why this happens
2 - how I can re-organise them into the correct, unform folder structure used for 95% of the images, without having to manually check the date for each, move them into new folders etc etc and delete the current folders when they are empty?
I want all images to be displayed in the date they were taken, and to be added to folder database in the uniform manner. I have tried the "move" import option, but as they are all present on the same drive, this doesn't work.
Life is arguably too short to worry about this sort of thing - but it has been bugging me for months!  And it's making it difficult to organise images form multiplt sources - I think that's what is causing me the issue.
Many thanks in advance.
Dave

Thanks for your reply Rob, it gave me an idea.
I have gone into the finder, to the folders that don't match and are out of sync with the correct dates etc, and copied all media from within them to a new location, and selected the "move" option on import. I've removed the link to them in Lightroom, and I'm re-importing them.
Consequently, on re-importing them, LIghtrrom is rebuilding a folder structure in the finder and all seems to be well with the world again.
Thanks very much
Dave

• How to import files and convert folder structure to collections hierarchy?

My RAW files are organised on disc by date, e.g.
2013
01
02
etc
2014
01
02
etc
2015
01
2015-01-05 Family outing
2015-01-27 Walk along the Canal
etc
02
2015-02-01 Visiting granny
2015-02-05 Golf
2015-02-07 Skating competition
etc
I would like to batch import these into Lightroom (Lightroom CC) and have the folder structure above replicated in Collection Sets and Collections (i.e. one collection set for each year, and within each one have a collection set per month, and within that individual collections for the folders)
Is there a way to make this happen automatically?
Many thanks,
/alan

Hi.
Trash the iPhoto Library folder that you created on your Mac, or rename it "iPhoto Library damaged" if you may need some of its contents. Copy the iPhoto Library folder from the backup into your Pictures folder. Hold down the Option key as you launch iPhoto and select "Choose Library" from the dialog. Navigate to the good iPhoto Library folder and open. iPhoto should launch and open your library in exactly the same condition it was in when the backup was made. If all goes well you don't have to import anything.
If the library is still missing items, you can try a database rebuild. Hold Command and Option while you launch, select the first 3 options in the dialog, and rebuild. This can fix a library with a slightly damaged database.
If the library still isn't working you may have to create a new library (Option-Launch, select "Create") and import your Originals folder from the backup library. This will give you the pictures back without creating duplicates, but your albums and other items will not be recovered.
Regards.

• Watch folders and meta from folder structure?

Hi,
New to XMP, but I'm looking to impliment a DAM across a marketing department split into two teams - remote but on the same network.
We have c70gb of av material from the last 15 years.
1. Is it possible to "watch" a network folders for new / edited files?
2. Can metadata be collected from the existing folder structure? I.e, for the last 15 years descriptive folder names have been used in an attempt to organise things - ergo these folder names include project names etc. Is it possible to pull these folder names out, and put them into keywords in the meta?

Hi, Thanks for the reply.I have 2 shared folders set up - 1 for each user and have given permission for each user to have full access to their own personal folder. There are our family photos on the public folders and each user has placed their own files/photos/videos etc in their personal folder.User 1 is using WDMycloud on an android phone - can see their own private folder and the public folder.  All the photos are in the shared folder.  All the private documents are in User 1 folder. When using the app, User 1 can go to 'Public' and see the public photos, but:When selecting 'View by date' some of the thumbnails that are on the folder are from user 1s secure folder. When user 1 opens the folder, they can see public photos in the thumbnails.  However, some thumbnails are displaying images from the private folder and when they click on these, they open up an image in from the public folder. When selecting ' view by album, only 1 folder appears (in this case the folder created in the private folder for backing up images from camera)When selecting 'View all photos' only a specific group of photos from a folder on the public pictures opens.User 2 is using WDMyphoto (I think) on ios. User 2 is able to see thumbnails and images from user 1s private folder. I have tried several things to stop this happening - setting up each private folder as accessible by only the named user.Checking user permissions to ensure they have no access to each other's folders in both 'user' and 'shares' settings. I have restarted the WDMycloud and devices connecting to it, but am still having these problems.  I will try to rebuild the database to see if that is any use. Any further advice would be much appreciated! I am becoming increasingly frustrated with this and am thinking about just removing the private information from the drive, but having secure access to personal information was one of the reasons I purchased this in the forst place!

• Back ups disappeared. I can see the folder structure but they are all targetless alias.

Hi,
A couple of months ago I restored a Lion MacBook Time Machine Back up to a new MacBook Air using Mountain Lion. Obviously, the whole content wouldn't fit in the considerably smaller hard drive of the MBA, so I only downloaded what was most important, and left the back up in my external disk to access if I needed other files.
The thing is, I did access the files a couple of times, but sometime in the past two months the back ups have dissapeared. Instead, I can find my fold structure, but they are only aliases. There are no files there.
I used finder to browse through all the different dates inside the Time Machine folder, but there were still only aliases.
The Time Machine Back up folder reduced in size from about 500GB to 45GB, but I have not deleted anything. And I haven't set up a new time machine.
Any one has any idea of what might have happened?
Thanks in advance.

• How do I move photos in a Smart Collection and keep folder structure?

HI there I am on a trial of Lightroom and loving it so far.  One seemingly simple task I would like to try out is moving all my RAW files (which are all mixed up with JPGs and PSDs to a new location and keep the current folder structure.
Currently I have files strcutured like this: <main disk>\<year>\<month>\<filename>.cr2 and I would like to move these to <different disk>\<year>\<month>\<filename>.cr2
The Export functions look as if they will put them all in to one big folder?  Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

There are several approaches to this problem. You could do this via the Folders panel in LR. You can do just about everything in the Folders panel that you can do in Explorer or Finder. Just create folder and drag and drop.
Another way is to do this outside LR use Explorer (Windows) or FInder (Mac). after you're done then go back into LR and tell LR where to find the moved files. Depending on how many you have this could be a bit tedious.
Another method is to choose the files you want then Export them as a Catalog. When you do this be sure to include the option to export the negatives. Point the new catalog at you other drive. It will recreate the folder structure during the export. Then remove the images from your present catalog. Don't delete from disk just remove. Now import from catalog and choose the newly exported catalog. This time choose the option to add the files without moving them. Once you are sure everything is back and is fine you can use Explorer or Finder to go into your original file structure and delete the files that were moved to the new drive.  Be careful to only choose the moved files. If you are separating the RAWs out this should be relatively easy.
I hope that helps!

• How can I batch move files to the same folder structure in a different location?

Hi,
I recently had an issue with my iTunes Library so I used the Organize Library feature to have iTunes organise my library.  What happened was that it put all of my music in a folder called 'Music' on my external hard drive, whereas previously it was not in a folder at all, e.g.
BEFORE: External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
AFTER: External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / Mama Mia.m4a
I don't have any particular issue with the updated folder structure, except that I had copies of the artwork for each album in my album folders, and these weren't moved when the audio files were moved/consolidated/organised.  So I need to find a way of moving all of the artwork to the new folders, e.g.
External Hard Drive / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
needs to become:
External Hard Drive / Music / Abba / Greatest Hits / folder.jpg
I have to do this for 3,000+ albums, and I have multiple artwork files for some albums, so I am hoping that there is a way of doing this using a batch/automated method of some kind, but I haven't been able to turn up anything yet.
Can someone help with this?
Thanks,
Nick

You can make a smart playlist containing episodes of both series and play from that. Podcasts are linked together by the URL they are served from so merging ongoing series isn't really practical.

• Using Metadata to generate view as conventional folder structure

Can Metadata be used to generate a view as the conventional folder drill-down?
I have a list with metadata for different projects, releases, content type etc and I would like to view them in folder structure with different hierarchies, i.e. using projects--> releases--> content-type as well as release --> projects --> content-type.
I have asked the same question at : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22693036/using-metadata-to-view-as-conventional-folder-structure

Hi,
If your metadata is based on a hierarchical term set you could use ‘Metadata Navigation’.
You may have to change your information architecture a bit to accommodate this approach. More info on ‘Metadata Navigation’ here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint-server-help/configure-metadata-navigation-for-a-list-or-library-HA101820113.aspx

• How to make file folder structure from virtual folders

lv 2013 sp1
This is the layout of an example project, (please don't mind the horrible naming)
When i create a source distribution.. no matter what settings I try, the preview is always like this:
But I want the folder structure from the build to become as the virtual folder structure. is there any way of doing this without moving them by hand in the file explorer tab?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Unless you use auto-populating folders (which I don't like), the virtual folders are not meant to reflect the location on disk, so it certainly won't be automatic.
I don't have experience with source distribution, but other build types have the option of configuring destination folders in the Destinations category and then assigning these destinations to items in the projects (including virtual folders, which then takes all the elements inside it) either in the same category or in the one under it, I can't check. I expect that you can do the same in a source distribution.

• How can I batch Save For Web and maintain a multilevel folder structure?

First... I am using an old version of Photoshop.... 6.0 to be exact.  If your answer is to buy the newer versions, I respectfully say I know that's AN answer, but I'm looking for something that will work with my setup.  The version we have works just fine for the very few things we need it for, and we use new versions of InDesign and Acrobat for all else.
So here's the challenge:
We have a weekly magazine featuring 1,200 plus photos of cars for sale, each saved in a folder named for the sales rep, week and day.  I must maintain these folder structure throughout the process, as the files names are duplicated by cameras and across reps.  So I cannot dump all batch converted pics into one single folder, yet I need to reduce the Quality setting which I find when completing a Save As in Photoshop.
So I want to batch convert all the photos in multiple folders, some 3 folders deep, all at once....  reduce to 8 inches across, change to 72dpi, and reduce the quality slider to 5, which creates a nice 60-90K file.  BUT.... it wants to save all of them in a particular folder.  I need to just overwrite the original file with the new smaller one.... or save the new small version into the same folder the big one is in, but have it work with the "include all sub-folders" option in batch.
A sample File system .... 4513 Photos - Color <day of week> (3 folders) - <disk number><rep>Color (20 folders) - actual photos.
After converting, we push up the final level of folder to our website and that organization allows us to use them there the way we need.  The uploading to the site and batch functions are done 3 to 4 times per week.... on different days.
Is there a way to reduce the quality (compression) of the jpgs that does not require the creation of a new file in a particular folder, or is there a way to have the resulting file just drop back into the folders and subfolders during a batch function?  I just can't figure this out!
As an alternative, what other programs might do this?

You should be able to just use the html output of the Export for Web function and, if the video's converted correctly, just swap the file names at the appropriate places. Have you tried renaming VisualHub's output to what the Export for Web html wants, then placing it in the proper location?
I'm not aware of a way to batch create the html files, but if I had to, I'd probably look at automator to see if I could figure out it's text manipulation options.

• WEIRD! AVCHD folder structure saved on HD appears different in Mountain Lion?

I saved all my old SD card contents fully onto an external hard drive.
Since saving I have upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
Today I opened  the saved SD cards to find that the folder structure had altered dramatically.
It appears to be simplified and the "Private" folder is no longer a folder but a QT type file which when double-clicked opens in QT Player.
All the clips appear to be there and capable of being used but everything is drastically different.
Any idea what has happened  .  .  .  .  is it ML related?

There seems to be no way of importing AVCHD video without copying it.
When it's in the camera you need to copy it but if it's stored on a HD there is no need but you are given no choice.
