Rebuilding JVM hotspot1.3.1 and j2sdk1.3.1

I have rebuilt the hotspot1.3.1 and j2sd1.3.1 after I made some changes using linux 6.2. When I try to run the interpreter or the compiler I get the message: Error Iinitializing the VM. Unable to load native library libverify.so: undefined symbol.
I trie dsetting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable to no success. I also tried inserting the path to libverify in the ld.so.config file nad running ldconfig command. That did not work either. I am suspecting that the share dlibrary is compiled with a version of glibc that generates unrecognizable symbols. Any suggestions for correcting the problem?

Well at least 3.0.1 was made available to me for download today.

  • JVM 1.5.0_11 and libumem -- need stack trace help for memory leak

I'm trying to track down the cause of some memory growth in a java application. In my tests, the java heap appears to remain stable, but the overall memory footprint of the jvm process continues to grow (observed with pmap).
I've run my application with libumem and have found what appears to be the culprit, but the memory allocation is in libjvm.so and I'm looking for ideas what might cause it.

What causes this invocation in the JVM? Is there a known memory leak associated with this?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

More on this issue. The included program will continually allocate memory on the process heap until the JVM cannot allocate memory and it exits with the following exception.

  • A rebuild removed projects from photos and put empty projects in the trash.

I'm running Aperature 3.2.4 in OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro 1,1
I have a large library of 37,000 images on an external hard drive. I have experienced a number of problems which culminated in a corrupted drive and library which I have taken several steps to repair. In an attempt to be thorough, I may be including more info than necessary, but here is my tale.
    1) There have been inconsistencies for some time when deleting photos in the camera (compact flash card uploaded through camera) when importing photos. Occurring more frequently, the photos did not get deleted when I made that selection, most normally with the unmount camera box check. This is a big deal, I adapted by checking the camera when it was unmounted.
    2) I hadn't been emptying the trash in Aperture and accumulated several hundred photos in the trash. Blame it on procrastination and no appearance of pressing necessity.
    3) My camera has developed some problems with the USB port, perhaps getting worn with a lot of use. When importing photos, the camera has recently started disconnecting during the import of photos..
    4) This has resulted in a corrupted drive directory, which I was able to repair with Disk Warrior. It also resulted in photos that were not in the Aperture library. Aperture was no longer able to see those unimproved photos, no matter what drive I was able to copy them to. I resolved the import problem by changing the file name slightly. I assume that Aperture registers filenames before importing, and if the import fails, Aperture is unable to see that the import failed. I have added those files by changing the file names, and my long term solution was to get a CF card reader.
    5) I thought that my problems were solved, but when I opened Aperture today, I got a dialog box telling me that I need to repair permissions, then another about rebuilding the library, and a whole series of failed attempts to do so with a string of boxes suggesting that I quit, rebuild, or repair, all attempts eventually hanging. Disk Warrior tells me that several plists mostly involving changes could not be repaired. After several attempts and restarts, I was able to open the library in Aperture.
    6) The left window was missing a large number of projects, but in photo view, all of the photos and versions were there with the meta data showing a path to the original projects. In the project view, all of the projects were there, but I could not open any by clicking on them. When I viewed the trash contents, there were a lot of empty projects. It was probably a mistake, but I emptied the trash.
    7) I have not closed Aperture for fear that might result in changing those paths attached to photos. Hopefully they are the key to setting things straight.
Is there any way I can undue the trash dump, or otherwise return photos to the appropriate projects? I'm talking about nearly 400 projects, so this is not a minor glitch.

I quit Aperture, which hung up while writing preveiws, so I did a force quit. I restarted Aperture while holding down command and option keys, but Aperture opened directly into library with all projects and photos intact. Oddly enough the projects seem to be in a random order, certainly a different order.
I closed Aperture without a problem
I ran Disk Warrior again, and once again there are damaged property lists that cannot be repaired. There are 9 plists numbered from
    File: "0000000002.plist"
    thru
    File: "0000000012.plist"
    all in
    Aperture Library.aplibrary/Database/History/Changes/
I opened Aperture again while holding down command and option keys, this time getting the dialog I wanted, and I'm now running Repair Library Database.
Well the dang thing seems to be hung at "Repairing Library 100% complete"
I'll give it a while, Force Quit and try again.
Any suggestions? Should I try a rebuild on the next try?

  • The applet fails to load. with 'red cross' screen JVM 1.6.19 and above

After updating the JVM to one of the latest version 1.6 builds, our users started to experience a problem with opening java applets.
All the users have JVM versions 1.6.0_19 – 1.6.0_26 on Windows 7/2008. The browser is IE8. On the server usually there is IIS7, with ‘Integrated Windows authentication’
on applet’s virtual folder. Applet’s classes are packaged into a signed JAR file. Both the client and the server are located in the same local area network with no proxy or firewall between them.
The applet’s website usually belongs to the trusted security zone. When loaded, the applet establishes HTTP connection to the server to get the necessary data.
When the user tries to open an HTML page containing the applet, there can be the following scenarios:
    1.     The applet fails to load. We’re getting a ‘red cross’ screen. All the HTML elements except of the applet are loaded OK.
From the IIS log we can see that the loading of the JAR file failed with the error code 401, the user name field in the log for the JAR is empty.
    2.     The java asks for the user name and password showing a popup ‘Authentication required’. At this moment we can see the following message in the Java console:
    network: Firewall authentication: site=/XX.XX.XX.XX:XX, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm
If the user enters the correct credentials, the applet loads OK. Even if the user checks the ‘Save the password in your password list’ checkbox, Java continues to ask for credentials
on every page reload. It’s worth to note that the company’s external firewall doesn’t get any requests from the applet.
The problems happen even when the client and the server are located on the same machine, but never happens when we use localhost as the server name in the page URL.
During investigations we found out the following workarounds:
    1.     Enabling anonymous authentication on the virtual folder always solves the problem.
    2.     Sometimes, changing security zone from ‘Trusted’ to ‘Local intranet’ solves the scenario 2 (‘Authentication required’ popup) problem.
It’s worth to note that changing the security zone never helps if the page URL contains dots (for example, uses IP address instead the server name).
    3.     Upgrading to IE9 solves the scenario 2 problem partly: Java asks for the credentials only once.

I have the same issue. I use single sign-on with IIS 7 and Integrated Window authentication on the tomcat virtual folder. The applet jar file is on the root directory of the web application (the same level of index.html). So I use '.' as the code_base to call the applet from javascript.
So when I launch my web application into a browser, the auto-connection is successfully performed (single sign-on through Upstream, kerberos, remote_user, ...). But when I want to launch the applet in the web application, a new authentication panel (red panel with "authentication required") occurs in order to set credentials (login, password, domain) with the message in the java applet console:
    "network: Firewall authentication: site=myApplicationUrl, protocol=http, prompt=, scheme=ntlm"
So why the applet doesn't inherit previous credentials in this case ??
Have you solved this problem ?
    Thanks

  • Advice Needed on Rebuilding OSX SL on iMac and MBP

I am rebuilding my iMac and MacBook Pro from the scratch with Snow Leopard. At the moment, I have almost completed installing the operating system, system updates and 3rd party apps on my iMac.
The question is: Can I just clone the iMac drive with all the ready-to-use system to MBP and made some adjustment in MBP (e.g. hostname, etc)?
The iMac is 2008 Alu while the MBP is 2008 unibody.
The goal is not to repeat installing the whole thing again and I would like to have as-close-as-possible mac between the two.

NO. don't even try that. it will result in either completely unbootable or a seriously malfunctioning system.

what you can do is use migration or setup assistant. do a wipe and install on the MBP. on the first boot after that you'll get setup assistant which will ask if you want to import your data from another mac. choose that option and migrate from the imac. use either ethernet or firewire connection. don't try to migrate over wireless.

  • Computer Rebuild - New OS - ITunes upgrade and error message 1417 on IPOD

My old WinXP Pro machine died (AFTER I deleted the NTFS file by mistake, so 100% completely my stuff-up)...so I rebuilt it and installed Windows Vista instead (yeah I know...!).
Now, as I had to rebuild from scratch, I lost everything except my i-tunes library and all my docs which I kept on a separate drive...thankfully
So, rebuilding I decide to install I-Tunes 7.0.1.8 ... no probs, can see my library, can see my Ipod.
But i-tunes then tells me there is an update to theI-Pod software itself, which I decide to install. It bombs out everytime with an Unknown Error installing v1.2 (Error message 1417).
    Any clues please?
Also, when ripping some new CDs I bought into I-tunes, where it used to take, say, 30 secs/song it now takes 4 or 5 minutes....
    thoughts on that one too?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Error 1415, 1417, 1418, or 1428 when restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later

  • Edit or Rebuild App with new APNs and MPFs?

I tried to send a push notification for one of my apps, and it failed. After noticing that my APNs were expired, I rebuilt the APNs and MPFs. Do I now need to rebuild the app with those new components, or can I simply go in and edit in app builder? If I can just edit, will I still need to generate the binary and upload that new version to Apple? And will users also need to update their app in order to recieve push notifications?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Just rebuild the app in app builder with the updated push certificates. You should then be able to send push notifications. You shouldn't need to resubmit the app.

  • JVM doing frequent full and partial GC and still not freeing up any memory.

    Hi,
We are using sun JVM under Tibco Active Matrix Service Grid's OSGI container. We are observing a strange behaviour where JVM is doing full/partial GCs continuously without freeing up much memory. Old generation is getting filled up and the young generation is almost empty. We have a web service deployed on this JVM. All the requests to the service are stateless so all the objects created are short lived and should be immedietely available for GC. Please see below the heap size and the GC arguments which we are using.
    # Increase the default maximum heap size.
    java.heap.size.initial=4096M
    java.heap.size.max=6144M
    -server -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xloggc:gc.log -verbosegc -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+MaxGCPauseMillis=100 -XX:GCTimeRatio=5 -XX:+UseTLAB -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/opt/home/tibcoadm/heapdump.log
We need to know why continuous full GC is not able to free up any memory in old generation ?

Did you try 121 VM instead of 117. GC algorithm in 12 is much better than
              117.
