Recent Windows 7 update causing monitor sleep problems/Windows loop in some HP desktops?

After perusing this forum, I wonder if there was a recent Windows 7 update that has been causing problems for some HP desktops and displays. My office has a 3500 Microtower desktop running Windows 7 Pro. While Windows 7 Pro is running and in use (as in, not prompted by any user-set power management option), the dual HP displays (via DVI split to VGA) will enter sleep mode ("No Signal", I believe) seemingly randomly/chaotically and without warning. No amount of mouse-waving and keyboard-smashing will wake the displays. The displays will not receive a signal after being turned off then on. Then, not immediately but after some undetermined time, the desktop hard drive light will begin to blink at a consistent 1-second interval (approximate), as though it is stuck in a loop.
My guess, based on both our office's experience and the posts I've read with the same problem (see below for links), is that this update would have become available either November 16 or 17, November 15 at the earliest.
Thank you for your attention to this conundrum!
Aaron
One more piece, not sure if relevant: a user connected remotely in order to monitor the desktop, but detected no problems with the machine. Unfortunately, I was not able to remain with the desktop to see if the displays had shut off at any point during his monitoring.

Hi,
If you think that the issue is related to a recent Windows 7 update then try going back to a known good restore point before the issue occured.

  • Recent windows 7 updates caused serious conflicts??

I have two NI PCIe-1433 boards and the NI Max v5.4 installed. Recent win 7 (64 bit) automatic updates, within the last 10 days seemed to cause serious problems. Win 7 couldn't boot any more. Sometimes computer turns on and off by itself before the windows logo shows up. Sometimes it crashes before I can login.
I did a fresh reinstallation of win 7. The same problem happened after some automatic updates. I can boot and use windows 7 if I unplug both NI cards. This makes me think the problem is in NI driver/card. I'm reporting it here to see if anybody experiences similar things.
Earlier this year Win 7 automatic updates caused a problem with my Canon printer/scanner. Canon supplied scan software still does not work today.

    Hi Jeremy
Thank you for responding. I do not know which update. I know it's due to some update(s) that happened recently.
After I reinstalled the fresh Windows 7 (64 bit), I installed NI IMAQ software. I was able to use both boards to acquire images at that point. However Windows 7 kept updating itself. Later the same problem happened again.
After unplugging both boards, I have been using the computer for 2 days without a problem. My computer's power supply is 650W. Does the boards require a lot of power?

  • Recent Windows 7 Update has killed windows

Help, I run Windows 7 in Bootcamp, recent windows 7 update has killed windows, this is what happens.
Choose to boot to windows - OK
    Hit logon screen - OK
    Logon - OK
Windows loads, the desktop shows for about 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank.
The computer is still ON but the screen is blank.
I can boot into safemode OK, but can't run the bootcamp update (that I downloaded from here) in safemode.
I tried a restore point, but the ones before the update create an error, so thats a no go.
My thoughts are that it is a video driver issue, but that doesn't explain how it gets passed logon working OK.
I don't know how to fix this if the only way to update drivers is via an .exe vs the driver files themselves like windows usually likes.

You could try this advice from the Windows side.
Startup Repair is a good place to start if your system starts acting up. If you can’t get the Advanced Boot Options screen by hitting F8, you can also access the tools by booting from a System Recovery Disc, or the Windows installation disc. While System Repair might not be able to recover your system in all situations, it’s a great starting point before getting into more detailed recoveries like Restoring from an image or clean install.

After recent windows 7 updating Adobe reader has stopped to run. Do you know solution?

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Windows 7 Update caused sound glitch

    Hello
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 1545.
I recently encountered an issue with my computer where there was some sort of memory leak that was causing constant freeze ups. Also, the sound on on any sort of media (iTunes, Netflix, youtube, etc.) would glitch every 30 seconds or so. By that I mean it
would sound as if the computer was lagging, but it was not always happening at the same times the computer freezing was.
After some research I determined that a Dell wireless driver was causing the memory leak, so I uninstalled it and the computer was no longer freezing up. However, the sound issue was still occuring. After a few days of great frustration, I decided to just
reformat my computer. The sound was working fine after the reformat, but then I installed all of the Windows updates and it is glitchy again.
I'm not sure what update did it as there were so many, but I uninstalled the service pack 1, but it didnt change anything, so I reinstalled it.
I have determined that it is a software issue and not hardware as if I plug headphones in I still get the glitch and when I did a Linux live boot, the sound worked fine.
I have run these tools, but they have found nothing:
    Windows Memory Diagnostic
    Windows performance troubleshooter
    Windows audio troubleshooter
    System File Check
    MalwareBytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira
I have also installed every and any driver I can find, but nothing has changed.
I am not sure what caused the initial problem before I reinstalled Windows as I hadn't downloaded anything or installed any new programs in at least 2 weeks. I've had the laptop for over a year and had no issues with it. This may sound crazy, but on the
day of the initial memory issues, there were high levels of Aurora activity due to a large solar flare; I have heard that the electromagnetic interference can screw with technology, but that seems a little farfetched to me.
If anyone has even the slightest idea what it could be, please let me know. I have been trying to fix this for almost a month now.
    Thank you,
    Jesse Ferland

    Hi,
Regarding the issue, I would like to recommend you checking the issue in Safe Mode and let me know whether this issue occurs in Safe Mode.
Since you said this problem occurs after installing Windows Updates. I suggest you restore your machine to an earlier point then check the issue again.
Also you could contact your manufacture to check your sound card.
    Hope that helps

  • 10.9.4 update causing deep sleep wake reboots

    MacBook Pro mid-2012 15"
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
After Mavericks 10.9.4 update, my computer started rebooting after deep sleep during charging. When I close the lid and plug in MagSafe, a few hours later, when opening the lid, I get the user choosing screen with a message saying that my computer was restored due to a problem.
This only started happening after I updated to 10.9.4. I have searched these forums and google, but I only get responses saying that this update was supposed to fix this problem. A problem that I did not have before.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
    Cheers,
    Marcelo

After it restarts, does a dialog box resembling the following appear?
If it does, click the Report... button, copy the entire text of the report, and paste it in a reply.
If it does not, read the following:
Prior to shutting the lid note the time in your Mac's menu bar or some other accurate timepiece.
Find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that type the words bootlog in the Filter field at the upper right of the Console window:
That will cause all log entries to be hidden, except for the entries containing those words. The last entry in the list will correspond to the last time you started the Mac. It will have a time stamp in the form hh:mm:ss later than the time you noted in the Mac's menu bar prior to shutdown.
Make note of that exact time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
Next: Clear the filter field by clicking the x in the above screenshot. It should then look like this:
All previously displayed log entries will reappear.
Next: Find the log entry that corresponds exactly to the time you noted in hours, minutes, and seconds containing the words"BOOT_TIME". You may have to scroll up or down a considerable distance. When you find that line, select it and drag your cursor up and prior to the entry corresponding to the approximate time you noted before shutting down the Mac. This will result in a selection of perhaps 100 to 200 lines or so.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than 100 or so total log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • Windows 10 update causes my printer to disconnect

I just upgraded this toshiba lap top to windows 10, since upgrading my wifi adress seems to have changed, the printer dosent want to stay on line or be recognised. i have had to download the wizard 5 times since the upgrade. I plan on getting a new computer after school starts and am worried because it will be a mac and i am wondering what kind of problems i will encounter when attempting to add the new computer to the wifi as well as connecting to the printer.I dont understand why the windows 10 upgrade has caused so many problems, and i find it a pain to contineously search for fixes.will there be a upgrade or soloution to this for the hp envy?

Hi there, had same trouble, I have an Epson NX130, would not power up, downloaded all the latest drivers to the computer but still would not power up, after browsing through some answers, one had suggested to go to your printer, where it says share  tick the box and see what happens, make certain it is the printer you want to share, when you go to Maintainenceif it shows all colours of your inks and levels you could have solved your problem, cant suggest any thing else, but that worked for me, Good luck

  • After OSX.4.11 update external monitor unresponsive+problems w/sleep etc

I've read some of the recent display problems. Here is my problem and what I've tried, my problem just started 6 hrs ago. I updated to OSX.4.11 a few days ago - eveything worked fine, yesterday I reinstalled epson printer driver as it was crashing and also yesterday I worked for several hours in iMovie 08. Nothing else unusual. This is STRANGE!
Today went to wake my MBP, 2.4 GHZ, 4GB ram, Cinema display 20", wireless keyboard/mouse up from sleep to check mail. Cinema display flickered and then changed to dark blue solid - and unresponsive. Couldn't get external display to function. Never had any problems with it. Tried to restart everything, unplug all cords, etc. Everything started up I got the log in password screen on my external cinema display - typed in my password - then saw my desktop photo for a second and the cinema display flickered to dark blue again and wouldn't change. It was unable to mount the desktop.
I went to my MPB while still connected got the screen on the MBP and saw the desktop but there were sort of black lines through the names of my folder files on my desktop. I then disconnected the cinema display, restarted just the MBP and the screen (of the MBP) that mounted was perfectly normal - no black lines through file folder names.
Then I tried various things. I assumed my cinema display was broken (almost 3 years old). But then I hooked my MBP up to an old 20" cinema display (they kind with 4:5 ratio and plastic all around), I think it uses some kind of converter to the DVI port anyway my MPB worked with that old display fine, desktop fine, but it would not stay asleep - no matter what I tried. I've never had that problem ever before.
Then I took the "newer" 3 year old cinema display (aluminum one) that I use all the time I I suspected was busted and hooked it up to my old Powerbook G4. And it mounted the desktop and worked fine!! The G4 just got updated to 10.4.11. Interesting thing is though when I closed the lid which usually made the G4 PB sleep it shut it down instead of making it sleep. Very odd.
Then I ran down to Apple store and bought new version of Disk Warrior and ran it on my MBP. I've never had anything Disk Warrior couldn't fix. It rebuilt my directory. I then hooked the MBP back up to the cinema display (aluminum) and the same thing happened I got my log in screen after startup, logged in password saw the photo desktop for a second then the cinema display went back to a dark blue screen that was unresponsive. I then ran Disk Warrior again with the cinema display attached to see what would happen. Disk Warrior mounted and I saw the whole process on the cinema display. The cinema display will mount disk warrior but it will not mount the MBP desktop as of 6 hours ago.
I then read these recent posts and tried a "safe" boot. I got my MBP desktop on the cinema display (aluminum) but as soon as I clicked on system prefs the cinema display went to dark blue unresponsive screen.
But the same cinema display (aluminum) works fine with the Powerbook G4 except for some issue with sleep
And the MBP works with an old plastic cinema display except again, it won't stay asleep.
But the MBP and the aluminum cinema display that I've been using together for my photo/video editing for 4 months straight now and I've never had any problems with - they won't work together as of 6 hours ago. That is when I get the dark blue unresponsive screen on the cinema display (aluminum).
    Upshot is:
    1) Something is up with sleep mode and the OS X.4.11 update on 2 different machines (G4 PB and MBP)
    2) Something is affecting the way both the MBP and the Powerbook react with both my cinema displays. The MBP and the 20" aluminum Cinema display are the ones I need to work with and the ones that as of 6 hours ago just lock up in cinema display dark blue screen (almost black but not quite).
Is this a problem with sleep, startup or DVI output and OS X.4.11?
What can I do about it? I need to use my 20" aluminum cinema display it is clearly the better one of my 2 cinema displays. And even if I switch to my 20" older plastic apple cinema display the computer won't stay asleep any longer?
Please, Please I need some help.
Also since this is happening on 2 separate machines and 2 separate monitors there is something odd going on.
Apple tech people, is there a major problem with .11 and sleep and external displays?
    Sincere Thanks, Carol
PS Note, I tried all this numerous times with both bluetooth and regular wired keyboards/mice along with MBP and PB keypads.

Sorry please forgive me, I'm so exhausted I posted this in MacBook instead of MacBook Pro, I'll try to move it but if I can't I'll try to copy it and post in MacBook Pro, regardless I think there is a problem with the .11 update.

  • Window update causing printer driver problems

Hi, I have a laptop running XP and wireless router (WAG54G) and a HP6380 All in one. About 2 nights ago a Windows update installed by itself and rebooted the laptop (even though I have Automatic Updates turned off as they seem to screw with anything these updates occur anyway grr)..
I went to try and print and found that the 6380 was missing from the list of available printers.. The problem is not with the wireless network (as that is connected and working). I am not sure what this windows update did.. but when I tried to reinstall the drivers for this printer from the disc, it recognised that they were already installed.. So I uninstalled them instead (and it picked up that only parts of the driver remained and it removed those parts).
So then I tried to do a fresh driver install.. which took a long time as it got stuck at the end...Eventually it came up with an error and so I tried to submit to HP - and was given a desktop icon to click on.. (HP Installation Icon - XP). I have tried it but it tells me to 1)reinstall driver (done that twice - well attempted anyway... or 2) troubleshoot Wireless printing (a non-issue at this stage given that I have no printer driver and I can use the wireless network for other things just fine)
Does anyone have any suggestions please> In the past when Windows updates have caused issues I have used System Restore to roll back but that is only a temporary solution - as Windows insists on updates that I dont want!
    Many thanks!

If you have the original HP software CD, look in the ccc/utils folder for an L3_unintsall (or similar).  Run it for a very thorough uninstall.
    Reboot.
Now, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.  DO NOT reinstall from the CD (a good rule in general is to not use software CDs, but go to the manufacturer's web site for the latest and greatest).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Problems after recent "windows critical update" 8 pm 3/13/2012

I was notified around 8pm that a critical update was ready to load from "Windows Update" so I allowed the update to load after I shutdown all open windows. After the update loaded and the computer restarted there was a screech emitting from the system speakers. I found the following changes:  my volume control now has 3 bars the usual volume bar and now a "system sound bar" and a "Stereo Mix (IDT High Definition Audio Codec)" bar, adjusting any of the bars has no effect on the screech, strangely also changed was my help file page. I know request held and no longer get the HP help page but instead the windows 7 help page.
I ran system restore and restored the system successfully to restore point at 9:30 am but all that did was removed the update but did not change the sound issue. Immediately before allowing the update to install I was listening to a recorded stream and all was well.
Any Ideas or suggestions? All drivers claim devices are running normally, and another restore to yesterday did not have an affect either.
Running Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit on a HP dv7t-4000 CTO, I do have extended warranty and I haven't contacted them yet.
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Monitor Sleep Problem

I have a Hanns.G external monitor that no longer goes to energy saver mode (displays no signal input - check video cable) when I put my MacPro to sleep. This has been the case since I installed the MacOSX 10.6.3 update.
I've reset both the PRAM and SMC with no results.
Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem?

My system profiler lists the following for my monitor:
    Hanns.G HG281:
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Rotation: Supported
    Television: Yes
There are several preference settings on the monitor itself, but nothing on the computer. There is only 1 HDMI slot and I have disconnected, reconnected it and the power cord several times. None of the monitor settings indicate a "sleep setting".
I've been quite happy with the monitor. I upgraded from a smaller Apple Cinema Display and noticed no difference in quality. My printer output with my Canon Pro 9000 shows no differences between output using my Apple monitor and that of the Hanns-G.

  • Dual monitor sleep problem

I have dual monitors and with 10.5.1 my second monitor will not open after it has gone to sleep. I have to shut down and start over. A simple restart will not bring it back up. I have never had this problem before. Any help??

    Welcome to the Apple Forums.
In System Preferences (found under the Apple Menu in the menu bar), look at the Display pane to see if both screens are recognized by the system. Click on the Detect Displays button. This will force the system to connect to the monitor and will show you if there is an OS problem, or perhaps a hardware problem.
I keep the "Show displays in the menu bar" checked so that I can access it through the Display image in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen.
My experience is that different monitors have different capabilities of connection to the computer- some have to be "detected" every time; some connect, but have to be changed from a mirror to a span or repositioned in the arrangement pane; some just "work right"
    Good luck. Joel.
