Recommended Hardware

Hi,
I am helping to evaluate Oracle E-Biz Suite 11i, currently using a lower end ERP system, thinking to switch over to Oracle E-Biz suite 11i with Financial, Discrete Manufacuting, Order Management and Oracle Purchasing.
I need further recommendation on the necessary hardware, thinking of running on HP Unix but as for configuration, need advice on this. I understand everything depends on the transaction volume, but just need a basic normal configuration.
Which is better, SUN or HP Unix in terms of maintenance, stability & scalability?
Any help is much appreciated.

There are some people who dispute the details of what "the software" means in the license. From my point of view, I have a license to run all of those versions each license explicity says I can use a VM. I don't think it is illegal or even unseemly. The only version restriction I know of that the new VM policy only applies to Lion or greater. 10.6 could only be run on a VM if you had the expensive server version. The licenses do explicity list the acceptable uses and that includes OS X Server, software development, and non-commercial use. They don't want people selling online access to OS X, that's all.
I do not VM Windows on my MBP because I have no need.
Me neither. I used to though. Funny how a Mac was the most critical tool in debugging web sites on various versions of IE
I don't even run OS X in a VM anyway. It does work but it is quite resource intensive. Maybe if I had one of those new Mac Pros...

  • Recommended Hardware Config for huge OLAP Cube build

    Hi David ,
Can you please provide the recommended hardware config for cube having billions of data under fact table . We ran a cube with 0.1 billion of data took around 7 hours to process. What could be the key areas to gain the performance benefit ? ansd also what could be the CPU , RAM (server) , RAM (Oracle DB) to gain much more perf benefit in such configurations ?
Also we have 32 bit windows 2003 server .Can we get better result if we switch to 64 bit ?
    Thanks in advance,
    DxP.

    Hi!
Well, I would definitely recommend you to proceed with a consultant because I feel that you have some lack of methodology and experience together with time constraints for your project.
Regarding hardware, unfortunately, I would not be able to give you any precise figures because I have no supporting information. What you should bear in mind that your system must be balanced. You (better with consultant) need to find a right balance between all the factors you consider as important while building a pile of hardware:
    - cost
    - architecture
    - speed
    - availability
    - load scenarios
    etc...
Regarding architecture point bear in mind that today finding right balance between processing power and storage processing capacity is a challenge. Put attention to this.

  • Recommended Hardware, OS for Web Cache

We are planning to implement web cache for our 9i AS (Sun Solaris) environment. The Web cache server will be running on its own box. Also, we would like to perform load balance on our web cache tier down the road.
Keeping all this in mind. Could someone provide us the recommended hardware (/w cofiguration) and OS for implementing web cache. Thanks,

Web Cache is designed to run on low-cost commodity hardware. You need at most 2 CPUs (the faster the better) to run
a Web Cache instance. A single CPU machine is OK, too -- again, the faster the better.
For the money, you can't beat a 2x933 Linux box.
Then there's memory. Most 32-bit OSs provide 2GB of addressable memory. You want to make sure there's enough
memory to cache all the content you want to cache. Usually, 2GB is more than enough. 500MB - 1GB is usually sufficient.
    Depends on your app.
In a few days, I will post a paper on http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/web_cache/
that covers the best practices for sizing and performance of Web Cache 2.0.0.x (9iAS 1.0.2.2). This will help you with
    sizing.
The network may also be a consideration for performance, as the paper mentioned above discusses.
Readers shoud note that the information in this standalone paper has been moved to the Performance and Tuning Guide
for 9iAS release 2 (version 9.0.2) which is due out shortly. Some of the information will be different in Web Cache 9.0.2 than
it was in Web Cache 2.0.0.x.

  • Recommended hardware specs for Reader in Android

What is the recommended hardware specs for Reader in Android? I would like to have smooth scrolling experience for scanned pdf ebooks with mathematical equations, images and graphs. Also keep the price low on my new tablet. Thank you.

Getting one of the latest devices would obviously give you the best performance, but any device which supports Android 4 or above should be good enough.

  • Content Server - Recommended Hardware?

Can anyone throw out a recommended hardware configuration for running 3 moderately busy public websites plus an intranet? Bandwidth requirements are roughly the following (with the strong likelihood of increasing in the short term):
Public websites: roughly 20 - 25 GB per month
Intranet: roughly 30 GB per month
The intranet will have a significant amount of document conversion going on, so we already planned on having the conversion server running on a separate box, and we were considering our options for what to run the DB on (HP UX is in the running as there are some other systems in place that run on it - but, as we're trying to control costs, that may change).
On top of that, we know that we want a development and production environment and that's about it.
Any recos on the amount of processing power / RAM we might need per machine and how many machines should get us in the game (we have some pretty ambitious goals with the entire system, but we're trying to shoot for "in the middle" as far as what we need in the short term and what we'll have to go back and ask for money for later on).
    Thanks

I might be getting out of my element here and I have no idea what your admin capabilities are, but have you considered the 'bang for your buck' ramifications of per processor licensing for UCM 10gR3?
I think a processor license on Intel/AMD architecture equates to two cores or a single processor. HOWEVER, on an UltraSparc architecture a processor license equates to four cores.
So, maybe this isn't what you were asking about but I thought I'd toss it out there for your consideration. Hence, since right now the list for a processor lic is nearly 115k and in your scenario you are using a 4 core windows box for each of your two production boxes you would need 4 licesnes (8 cores / 2 cores per lic = 4 lics). If you can deal with Solaris you could save money as the same setup of two 4 core boxes on ultrasparc would yield only 2 licenses. Ta dah! Saved 230k. Well, that's my good idea for the day I guess.
Of course, you may hate solaris/unix/linux/whatever and/or simply be used to windows.

  • Minimum/Recommended Hardware Requirements for DHCP on Windows 2012 R2

    Hello,
I am in the process of building two VM's on Windows Server 2012 R2 in-order to run DHCP with Failover.
Before I build my VM Servers I would like to know if there are Recommended Hardware specs that these servers should be built with?
I've been looking around for a little while and can't seem to find anyone or anywhere that these requirements are posted.
Any help would be greatly apreciated!
    Thanks,
    André

Totally agree with Henrik that DHCP is a very lightweight application and does not require much hardware.  In fact, it is often deployed as another role on a Domain Controller.  The thinking there is that the DC is something you want to have available
all the time, just like DHCP and DNS.  Why not put them on the same box.
My only difference in suggestion about hardware recommendations would be to use the 2012 recommendations instead of the 2008 recommendations, though they are pretty much the same -

  • BO 4.0 Recommended Hardware Requirements

    Hi all,
Now I run the BO 4.0 SP4 base on these requirements:
         Processor --> 2.0 GHz with 4 Cores
         RAM --> 11 GB
OS --> Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (VMWare)
However, I would like to upgrade the hardware specification to increase the BI platform performance.
Anyone knows what is the best / recommend requirements for BI platform.
(I have been check the PAM for BO4.0 SP4, it only show minimum requirements and recommended RAM only)
    Regards,
    Thank You.

    Hi,
the HW requirements highly depend on the usage of the Applicaion. Accurate Sizing is required.
Check the SAP BI Sizing Guide for more information

  • Recommended Hardware configuration for VS

I was looking at how to improve the performance of my development PC and checked out the VS Virtual Machines on Azure. I noticed two main points,
    1) they all seem to have a second drive that appears to be just for the swapfile/temporary files
    2) they seem to use Windows Server 2012 as the OS
I also saw some recommendations for using SSD's for the main OS drive.
What are the recommended/optimal configurations? Are the advantages/disadvantages documented anywhere?
I can sort of see why (1) would help as my PC seems to be disk-bound but not sure whether (2) is significant or just to allow for SQL server development or something?
Also if I where to use an SSD is there an easy way to move all the appdata, temporary and other frequently written areas to a second conventional HDD?

    Hello Terry,
SSD will increate performace when reading/writing files so you will benefit from this if you use it and do some IO operations. However I think Visual Studio performance do not just rely on this, the build process of Visual Studio is also related to other
of your hardware. It is hard to say how the performance will raise since it depends on so many things.
I will recommend you do this: If you don't need to read or write a project too offten, you can keep it in HDD. If you always use one project and want to increate the performance, please set this project in SSD.
For the appdata and temporary files, I cannot see them from VS settings, maybe you cannot modify them. But if you choose to install VS in SSD, I believe the performance will be better when read/write files.
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • Recommended Hardware Configurations for EP5.0 SP6

    Hi all,
What is the Recommended RAM and HARDDISC sizes for EP 5.0 SP6 for DEV, QTY and PROD servers.
    Help can be appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sudhir

    Hi Sudhir,
It is impossible to say with out knowing what you are going to be doing with the portal.  SAP doesn't recommend specific sizes.  I believe you will find the minimums in the installation guid or the technical infrastructure guide.
Personally I have a NW portal running on a windows laptop with two Gb of memory and a 40 gig drive.  Depending on the number of users, you could possibly run a portal on a windows box with two Gb of RAM.  For an It organization a dual processor 4Gb of Ram and 40 Gb drive sould work for a Development or Sandbox system unless you are expecting to be doing a lot of development on it.
As far as sizing a QA and production system, that should be left to you working with your hardware provider.  they will want to know things like how many users will there be on the system.  # of concurrent, locations.
Hopefully this give you a little something to start with.

  • Switch stacking - recommended hardware layout?

We are a distributed company with a number of sites. I am in the process of redesigning the majority of the comms racks for each site and had a specific question around hardware layout. For info, the majority of edge switches in use are Catalyst 2960S.
My preferred method is to install the switches between the patch panels and use short patch leads (25cm) to connect between. The switches are stacked with appropriate cables at the rear. This obviously makes it much easier to trace cables and I personally feel it looks way better.
    Example:
    ---24 Port Panel---
    ---Blank---
    ---48 Port Switch---
    ---Blank---
    ---24 Port Panel---
However, others in the IT team say that Cisco's recommended layout is to group all stacked switches together and patch out from there.
I am hoping for a definitive response from a Cisco tech, as well as feedback from others in the group.
    Thanks

Its all matter of preference.  Either solution will work fine. If you have enough space in the rack and the stacking cables will reach from the top switch to the bottom you can leave a blank space between them.  As far as I know, there is no recommendation from Cisco in this regard. If you leave space between the switches, its defiantly easier to plug and unplug cables from the ports.  As matter of fact I do the same with chassis if the chassis is not full.

  • Recommended hardware for new remote office configuration

Hello I'm looking for anyone who can provide hardware recommendations to me for networking two offices. Have one host location and one small remote location with about three users and I want to create a site to site VPN over a cable connection and still have the security and performance in place. I'm no networking guru so I'm looking for a router/switch/firewall that is relatively simple to configure yet has the security I need for both locations. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

I would have choose SA520 or SA540. SA520 even have a wireless feature
Well, for ASA/PIX, you can refer to VPN Tunnel ASDM Configuration for both ASA and PIX in this link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5855/products_configuration_example09186a0080a9a7a3.shtml
Do note that in the guide, the S2S VPN configuration is between PIX/ASA and Cisco Router. You can replace the procedure in Cisco Router with the procedure from PIX/ASA using the given value in Cisco Router.

  • Recommended Hardware & Maximum Load of Oracle 9iAS

I have a requirement where i will have around 2000 users, upto 3000 Oracle Reports, over Forms, approximately 200 Oracle Graphs and one of the data types i would use is LOB.
    What Hardware i.e.
    - Processor
    - Memory
would be recommeneded. I could have multiple machines.
    Please Advice urgently.
    Regards
    Faisal Ijaz.

I would definately recommend using 2 servers for Oracle 9iAS release 2. One server would for the Infrastructure and one would be for the mid-tier. With that many users, reports, and forms, I would suggest getting a quad Intel Pentium Xeon processor (more processing speed the better), 4+ gbs of ram (more ram the better), 3+ 40Gb+ hard drives in a raid 5 array for each server. Depending on what you backup system is like, you can opt to get a tape drive to do tape backups. Or if you have another server that does tape backups, that would be even better.
I have HP servers (ML570, ML530, ML370) and they are reliable and very easy to work with.
    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Recommended hardware configuration when using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

    Hello!
I am an Illustrator who uses Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop most of the time. Today I am using Adobe CS5.5 suite and is thinking of getting the Adobe CC. As my computer today is abit old and "tired", I am unsure about what to focus on when updating my hardware?
I am using today a HP workstation with following hardware:
    Software:
    Windows 7
    Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5
    Hardware:
    Processor:              Intel i7-2600 3,4GHz
    Internal memory:     8,00 GB DDR3
Disc drive:               500GB SATA disk 7200rpm
Graphics card:        NVIDIA GeForce GT 1GB
Since I work both with Technical Illustrations with loads of anchor points in Adobe Illustrator, I get sometimes error messages like "Out of memory" and such. I read about having two discs, one system disc and one work folder disc, that would solve that problem. But I am also working alot with large illustrations for comercial and advertising situations and I feel that it tend to get a bit slow, especially when I add gradients and blendmodes to an illustration.
So If I could get som recomendations of what to focus on to boots the speed in my system, also taking into account that my budget is somewhat small, I would really appreciate it!
    Best regards
    Ulf

I have similar setup to yours.
From my point of view you need more RAM. I have 16GB. Than you will need to change in preferences to adjust memory used by PS and Illustrator. Maybe take a look at virtual memory in Windows and disable aero effects.
Disk. It is better to have one disk for system (eg.SSD) and one for documents. But don't buy something like WD Green series that is intended for backup.
Graphics. It is not a major player I think for your tasks, but OpenGl can speed up rendering in Photoshop and Illustrator.
When exporting AI with layers to PSD it will always show "out of memory" unless you turn off anti aliasing.
and the most important thing reinstall Windows after some time... It will work faster.
