Recomnded setting for the client browser with oas

Hi all,
I am using webforms10g(9.0.4) with OAS(first release).
In some sites the client can not open the reports(in rtf format)-the screen shows up
for a second,and then disappear.
In others the client get alert that allow him only to save the file(not to open).
I think that it relate to security setting in the browser of the client(internet explorer).
Is there recommend list for parameter setting in the explorer of the client for using with OAS?

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

What version of Windows and Office is it? I had this issue with an older version of office and Windows XP. Basically, MS are using their browser (IE) because it's their software (MS Office). If you go to options in MS word though, you should be able to find an option to set the default browser to open links.

Returning a html status code to the client browser

Hi,
Can anyone help me with a problem that I am have with regard to returning a html status code of NO_CONTENT to the client browser?
The Problem:
Basically I have a html form with a SAVE button. When the user clicks the SAVE button the data in the form is sent to the web server which then saves it in a database and the same populated form is then sent back to the client. From the users point of view they click the SAVE button and the screen is refreshed with the same data. The problem with this is that the data only needs to be SENT to be saved but not necessarily resent back to the client browser from the server i.e. from a user's point of view I don't want the screen to refresh by disappearing and then coming back again. There is a lot of data in the form so this refresh can take a considerable amount of time as the html can take a while to download.
The Potential Solution:
What I want to do is send the data to the server where it will be saved in the database and then return a html status code of NO_CONTENT to the browser (always Internet Explorer) so that the page doen't get refreshed / downloaded unnecessarily. I've implemented this and the save can now take as little as 10% of the time it used to take because the data is only sent and not received again.
The problem with the potential solution:
It works fine most of the time but not all of the time. We tested this change and it worked great but when we released it live it didn't work for some people. For most people you can see the status bar at the bottom of IE zip along as the data is sent to the server so you can see when it has finished or received the status code back. For the people it didn't work for they would get an almost full status bar at the bottom but the blue would never quite disappear to indicate that it was finished. It was as if it was sending the data from the server but not getting a response at all when it should have been getting the NO_CONTENT status code.
The Code:
I'm using Struts so the line of code I had originally used after the data had been saved to the database was:
     return (mapping.findForward("timesheet"));
I changed this line of code to:
     response.setStatus(response.SC_NO_CONTENT);
     response.flushBuffer();
     return null;
Can anyone see what the problem is here? Are the new lines of code not guaranteeing that the response is being sent back to the client? Is there a better way to simply return a status code when you don't want return a JSP page?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see what you mean now. It's a very good idea but it wouldn't really work for this application. I've taken out the ability to use "back" functionality on this screen. It is launched through javascript so that the window itself has no toolbar and also the page is set to expire so that if you do go "back" to it, you are forced to refresh the page so that it is guaranteed to have the same data as is on the server. This is needed to stop problems with other functionality of the application.

Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
I am a user with administrator rights
UAS is disabled.
To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.

Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

ISE NEEDS THE INTERNET FOR THE CLIENT PORTAL?

this might seem like a silly question but ill ask anyway.
Out setup is fairly simple
WLC5760 (Code 3.3 i think) ISE 1.2 and a few 2600 series APs.
We have two portals, authenticated guest and Corporate that exist on the ISE.
The issue is this - the page (Portal Page) sometimes does not display on the client browser - independent of the type device and/or OS.
We checked DNS, did wireshark traces etc but it pointed to a network issue.
Eventually, i recreated the environment and noticed something - if i didnt actually have internet connectivity to the outside world, the ISE portal page never came up - My confusion was that why would a local page depend on Internet
I tested a few times and sure enough it was consistent.
I placed back into the customer environment and same issue occurred. I then setup a router to bypass their firewall (checkpoint - perimeter) and it worked consistently.
My thinking was that the Checkpoint was the issue - but again how come?
So, the question is, and looking at the post i know that you guys would need some more technical stuff, why would we seem to require actual Internet for that page to be displayed consistently?

It does require the Internet to check (say google.com) first and then go to ISE. In case anyone has an issue with the ISE portal (other than DNS or IPHONE issues) you may want to check your Internet stability.

What happens if you hit Preview button in OLE DB Source Editor? Also you can use the same query by selecting SQL Command option and test.
Could you try set the Delay Validation = True at Package and re-run ?
If set the query in variable expression (not in value), then Set Evaluate As Expression = True.

Get v5 utility and then you can hold down the option key and select the right mode.
If you have lion, just install it.. For ML follow this.
How to load 5.6 into ML.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Error when installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.

Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
We are using Oracle9iAS.
Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
We managed to run
-ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
-ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
-CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
-update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
-commit;
But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
this..
SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;

SQL> commit;

SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.

ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
SQL> startup
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
So, we tried to shutdown again..
SQL> shutdown immediate
ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?

I am freelancer. When I tried to upload files on elance it give following error and disable the upload button:using one of the supported browser with latest Adobe flash is required to experience enhanced file upload features.
All plugins are up to date. Flash version 11.7 installed.

Some sites may be mistakenly identifying Firefox 20 as Firefox 2, which is a very old version they probably no longer support. As a test, you could "lie" to the site about your Firefox version and see whether that little deception works.
This take a minute to set up. Here's how:
(1) Select and copy the following preference name to the clipboard:
general.useragent.override.elance''.''com
(2) In a new tab or window, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(3) In the filter box, type '''override''' and pause while the list is filtered
(4) Make sure '''general.useragent.site_specific_overrides''' is set to its default value of true (or right-click and choose Reset if it is not).
(5) Right-click anywhere in the preference list area and choose
New > String
then paste the preference name you copied. Click OK and enter TEMP or asdf or any text as a temporary placeholder. You should see the preference added in bold. Leave about:config open and switch back to this tab.

I can't find how to apply sound enhancements (EQ) for the podcasts now with iOS 6.0 update on any of my devices(iPhone 4s, iPhone Touch (4th Gen), iPad (3rd Gen). Most of the "Podcasts" I listen to are music content based and wanted to apply sound enhancements(EQ) like before when integrated with ipod function. Can you consider to "fix" this issue?

OK Emanuel I found a solution! I dowloaded and installed "Denon Audio" app from the iTunes store & it works great! It has an EQ you can set curves on manually or use the (few) built in pre-sets. It is a player like the Music app that comes with the iPhone, etc. but restores the EQ functionality so we can adjust the audio of PODCASTS:-) Until Apple fixes this what I consider a bug I will be using the Denon app as my default music player!

Hello all, I am having a JPanel, where new components will be added into it during run-time. When there are too many components inside the JPanel, I need to re-set the JPanel preferred size so that the JScrollBar is scrollable.
I was wondering what is the good method to determine the preferred size of JPanel during runtime?

Usually a container such as JPanel will calculate its own preferred size from its layout manager - calling setPreferredSize is often unnecessary.
When you add a component to your JPanel its preferred size will change automatically.
What's wrong with the behaviour when you simply add your JPanel to a JScrollPane and let it manage its own preferred size?
