Recording separate tracks

My apologies if this has been gone over numerous times - I've spent the past month attempting to get this answer from a variety of sources but have been wholly unsuccessful.
I'm recording vocals and guitar with two separate mics which I then run into a Presonus Firestudio (which has two inputs) which then connects to my laptop.
How do I get the two signals to separate into two separate tracks in Logic? They always combine into one track no matter how much I've played with the Audio Preferences. Do I need to be activating the Bus in some way?
Thanks so much for any assistance,
Scott

create MONO audio tracks and select "Input 1" for the first and "Input 2" for the second.
Now your two inputs will split to these two mono tracks, which can also be recorded together. If you want to apply stereo FX later, you can use a plugin that has a mono->stereo entry like the stereo delay or the gain utility.

  • How do I record separate tracks through my Mixer in logic?

    Hello All,
I am trying to record two seperate instruments at the same time into logic through my Xenyx Q502 USB Mixer so they are recorded on two sperate tracks (one track for microphone, the other for guitar) but am struggling as to how to do this. I have the Microhone in input one and the guitar in input two on my mixer. The problem that arrises is that both of these inputs record on the same track in logic and are not recorded as indivudal tracks. How do I make them record as indivudal tracks?
    Thanks,
    T.Hobbs.

Stop recording on a stereo track!
Record on two mono tracks, one set to Input 1,  the other set to Input 2

  • How to record two mics on separate tracks in GB?

So I've got the Mackie 820i, and two Shure sm58 mics hooked up. I'm able to record, and everything seems fine, but at the moment it's on one track. How do I set it up so that each mic records on a separate track? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • How to record multiple inputs to separate tracks using an Audigy 4 pro

    Hi,
I've been playing with my Audigy 4 Pro and Cubase LE on my windows XP box (since it ships with the card) and have been reasonably impressed with the results I've been getting (nothing amazing to be sure, but more than enough to amuse me).
However, I'm now at the point where I want to record the mic/line 1, line 2, and line 3 inputs all to separate tracks in Cubase LE. I'll be ****ed if I can figure out how to do it.
I've got jacks going into the front of the external Audigy 4 (into all the inputs) but I can't find any option anywhere that will allow me to select multiple recording inputs at the same time. From all of the reading I've been doing it looks like I need to do some ASIO configuration somewhere so that Cubase LE will give me some more VST input mappings.
So firstly, I guess is what I'm trying to do possible with the Audigy 4 Pro and Cubase LE?
If it is possible, what do I do to enable the additional inputs? I seem to have been through all the possible programs and configuration screens at least three times over and am now completely stuck.
Any help, thoughts, pointers, step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    Entrop1cLqd,
This is off the top of my head so my memory may be incorrect here but this is what I remember. First off make sure that you have Audigy ASIO or Audigy ASIO 24/96 selected in devices. Then go to VST inputs setup and make sure that they are all active. Note the names in here as that is how the recording is mapped (E.g. if Line In 3 is even with IN 1 then Line In 3 will be recorded from IN 1). Arm the tracks you want to record on and select their recording inputs based on the labels from the VST inputs setup.
    This should get you setup.

  • Recording Reason/Rewire Drums on Separate Tracks

    Hi,
I've been using Logic for a while now and am now trying to use Reason's ReDrum to sequence some drums.
I've managed to get Logic to play each drum through a different channel, which is a start. How would I go about actually recording each drum to a separate track? I've set up tracks with the Aux channels as the input, but the sound won't record.
I can output each Aux channel to a separate bus then create tracks with busses as inputs - this DOES record but is quite messy.
Is there an easier way to do this? Something simple I'm missing?

There is no way to do a live record for each track in Logic when the Reason instruments are wired directly through the hardware interface?
There must be a way to do it. Here is my problem:
    1. Wire a Subtractor directly to the hardware interface, Channel 5 for example.
    2. In Logic, select an audio track, change the channel to Rewire - Reason - Channel 5.
    3. Playback works fine, plugins and effects apply with ease, but there is no way to record to the track. The "enable for record" button to the left of the track dissappears.
    Anyone!?!?
Put an I/O Plug-In on the respective Rewire track in Logic and set the output to an unused output of your audio interface, and bring it back in on an unused input (if you're bringing in a stereo signal, i.e. a Redrum sound panned center, then you would have to put an I/O Plug on both the hard left panned Rewire track and the hard panned right track in Logic). Then set the Rewire track's output to No Output and pull the fader down just to be safe. Next go to an available audio track in Logic and set it's input to the same input you brought it back from the I/O Plug and then hit Record enable...and voila! You can now live record each Rewire track into Logic.
Hope this is clear enough. I personally use the I/O Plug to send Redrum sounds out to a hardware compressor/limiter via my AES out and back in via AES in. The I/O Plug really gives you endless possibilities with Rewire tracks. ;o)

  • Record Skype Interview Put interviewee on separate track

I want to make an interview podcast using Skype. I have garageband and an M Audio Fast track usb interface. Does anyone know if it is possible to put the interviewer and the interviewee on separate tracks using what I have? Thanks.

The best way to record skype interviews is off the computer.
    http://www.podcast411.com/mixer.pdf
Here is the set up I have been using for the past 8+ years for podCast411.  If you pan your self left and the other person right - you can record each on your own side of the track and can break out in post.
This will give you the best sounding skype recordings and also the most reliable recordings.
You do NOT want to record in garageband - if you are doing an interview - garageband is very flakey and you will have crashes with garageband and you WILL loose interviews.  Do not use Garageband to record your interviews.

  • Having Trouble Recording Skype Interview on Separate Tracks

I'm using the Presonus Firestudio Project Mixer and Adobe Audition to try and record Skype interviews on separate tracks.  I am positive I have all cables hooked up properly on the mixer.
Everything works fine except track two, which should only be picking up the other line of the Skype call, is still slightly picking up my voice.  So track one is just me.  Track two is podcast guest plus still me faintly.  I have track one dedicated to mic one, which is me.  And track two is dedicated to mic 3, which loops through the back on the mixer to the main outs.
How can I completely eliminate myself on track two so that it only picks up the guest?

I have two XLR Male to 1/4 inch TRS Male coming out of Mics three and four of the Presonus and routing back around back into the main outs of the Presonus.  This is supposed to make the loop so the Skype call can record separately.
I'm connecting Audition to the Presonus simply by selecting Mic three for the guests track and Mic one for mine.  It's picking up both fine, it's just picking me up on both tracks.  The Skype signal is coming into Audition via the Presonus mixer.
All Audition, Skype and Mac audio settings are set entirely to Presonus.

  • Recording Choir Parts, separate tracks

    Hi,
I'm recording 4 tracks for a choir, I'd like to record them separately, and be able to burn 5 tracks to a CD: the 4 separated parts as well as a track with them all merged. I've already recorded the 4 tracks in Garageband. Is this possible???
    Thanks!!

As Steve said, by soloing a GB Track you can export just that Track. You should Share to iTunes (full quality) then you can burn the CD from there once you have them all in. GB will only do one burn at a time to a CD so you couldn't get multiple (CD) tracks. (Let's make sure we're clear on language and the difference between a Track in GB and a song, or track on a CD. When you say you've recorded 4 tracks in GB I'm assuming you mean one song with 4 parts, each on its own Track.)

  • How do i record 2 tracks at the same time.

i use a mixer to hook my mics into garageband, what i want to do is have 2 separate tracks and have them able to record at the same time. ive made separate tracks for each mic but i can only highlight one at a time to record so i need to figure out how i can have both tracks highlighted and giving me levels. if anyone can shed some light on this for me that would be great. i get the feel like theres a simple solution to this.

Is there a way to import several tracks at once from my Boss BR8 so that they show up as separate tracks in GarageBand?

I had to google your device - looks like it's a vintage multi-track recorder that records to Zip disks. So I guess there's no digital USB or Firewire multichannel output and no way to transfer your tracks digitally - or is there? If not, your only option is to record the device's audio track by track into GB.

  • Recording two tracks at same time

I want to record guitar on one track and vocal on another at the same time. At the moment I have two ways this might work: I have an Apogee Jam interface for the guitar and A Dual Tube audio inferface for the mic. Or, theoretically, I could plug the guitar into one of the two instrument/XLR inputs on the Dual Tube. When I use option one, with the two different interfaces (Jam and Dual)  Logic Audio preferences will only let me choose one "device"  as input. Not both.  If I use just the Dual Tube with Guitar and mic plugged in to the L and R inputs, they go to the same track, since the Dual is seen as one single Input device.  I cant even arm a second track for recording.  The sound isn't bad, but I can't mix the tracks independently of each other.  Any ideas how to come up with two separate tracks at the same time, or do I have to simply record the Guitar first and add vocals later? THat's what I've always done, but wanted a "live" feel this time. I just switched from Logic Express to Logic Pro X.   Thanks in advance for any help!

You can create an aggregate device for a couple of different interfaces in the Audio MIDI Setup OS utility and select that in Logic's Preferences/Devices tab - I've never had to do it myself, so I couldn't be sure it works well with all devices.
It isn't me, but if it were I'd want to record them separately anyway, just for concentration on performance of each element, that's the difference between making good audio and making something that sounds like a proper record, no matter how simple or complex the music is.

  • How do you separate tracks using effects with patch mix

I step record using a oxygen 8 for my midi stuff and then I use a few tracks of real time audio .I just purchased a e-mu 0404 heard good and bad about it but it seems once you get past all the software issues then, its a quality sound.so far I have a great sound coming out. but cant figure out alot of things so I'll just ask one more. patch mix dsp has alot of cool effects. how do i get those and keep them separate in my recording.using mutiple tracks so if i want to put reverb on drums ,and phaze tyhe guitar, and have the ability to mix down using the separate tracks recorded with different effects.

What software was used to produce the .tiff images?
If it came from Photoshop on a Windows computer, open it again in Photoshop on a Mac.
Save a copy using the Mac compression settings.

  • Least Buggy Interface which supports 8 simultaneous & SEPARATE tracks ?

Looking to attempt using Logic for live recording events, and would like to start w/an 8 channel interface:
    Here are the inquiries:
1.Which interface would allow me to obtain 8 VISIBLE , SEPARATE tracks in logic, rather than having 8 instruments just recording on one track
In other words, I'd like to get a mic-d kick into the interface getting it's own LOGIC track, mic-d snare on another separate LOGIC track, etc . . .
    2. Which interface has software which supports that best when interacting w/Logic ?
    3. Is this one ok for that ? PreSonus FireStudio Project

I'm pretty sure I'm talking audio
Here's a practical example of my objective
    A live band is playing
There are 4 separate mics on the kit all going through 4 separate inputs on the motu or any other kind of interface
Guitar, bass, keys, sax each going into the other 4 inputs of the interface separately
Now this is the part I am wrestling with:
Will Logic read the 8 separate channels as Channels 1-8 and allow to record enable 8 SEPARATE tracks within Logic itself or will I be restricted to only being allowed to record those 8 simultaneous inputs on one track only in logic ?
Would I need an external soundcard for that ?

  • Splitting an audio track into separate tracks

I recently recorded my band on a handheld recorder.  I let the recorder run continuously throughout the entire performance, and would now like to:
Separate each song into its own audio track
Perform any mastering necessary on each track individually
Once done, copy each track over to iTunes and also burn it to a CD with song title information
It seems that (other than the actual art of mastering) this should be easy and it probably is, but I am not quite sure what to do despite going through the Logic Pro manuals, tutorials on line, Web training programs, etc.  It seems that everything I read is related to creating one track from what you have, not breaking it apart.  Can someone point me to a tutorial or provide me some guidlines?
    Thanks!

I do not know much (yet) about mastering, but I would suggest the following:
    1. Import the single audio track from your handheld recorder to your computer.
    2. Import the track into logic; you should be able to just drag the icon from the desktop onto the track and it will copy and show up as a blue audio region.
    3. Go through the single track and cut it up into pieces, dividing each song. To do this, move the playhead to where you need a division and click the icon "split by playhead" at the top. This cuts the region wherever the playhead is.
    4. Now that the single long audio track is divided into sections, create some new tracks (Command-Option-N). You can now drag each segment from the long track to the new tracks until you have separate tracks for every song.
    5. I would recommend exporting each song in one of two ways; either right-click the region and select "export as audio file" or you can click the solo "S" button in the lower right, click on one of the regions, which will highlight yellow, and click "Bounce" at the top to do essentially the same thing.
    6. When you open the exported audio file outside of logic, it will copy to itunes. From here, you can name the files, arrange them in a playlist and prepare to burn.
    I hope this helps!

  • Is it possible to record multiple tracks simultaneousy on Soundtrack Pro v.1.1?

Sorry for posting this here, but the Soundtrack forum looked dead and I know by this point the programs have been integrated.
Anyway, I'm recording a podcast with a two-mic set up using a mixer, and I need to record each mic to a separate track. I found instructions about how to do it with version 3, but I'm on an old crap 1.1 version. Still hoping I can find a way, though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the 5770 should be installed in the bottom slot, Slot 1, after removing the X1900.  Over to the top left just near the side and top of the fan cowling are two, black, rectangular power connectors.  These are use to provide power for those GPUs that are not bus powered.  The X1900 may already use both, therefore the power cables are already connected to the motherboard.  The 5770 uses one of those power cables leaving the second one free.  Thus, a second GPU would either need bus power or could be powered by the second cable.  This would preclude, for example, using an ATI 4870 because it requires both power cables.  However, you could use a second 5770 with the second installed in Slot 3 (the 5770 overlaps two slots.)  Or at least mine does.
The second card would have to be an Apple-specific card.  You cannot use PC or OEM video cards because they do not have a compatible ROM.
