i faced problem when opening the database that there are datafile needed recovery
i'm working in noarchivelog mode
i tried to take this datafile offline but this failed
what are the exactly procedures to recover this file ?

Recover Datafile with Noarchivelog

Dear all,
Received a call saying the database cannot up the error message as below
ORA:01113 file2 needs media recovery
ORA:01110 Data File 2.....
Thus,
svrmgr> startup mount
svrmgr> alter database datafile 'c:.....' offline drop;
svrmgr> alter database open;
I created another owner in order for me to import from backup file.
Next day, I discovered the datafile is being hide by 'someone' and the permission of the file is read only.
Question is can I still recover my datafile from my physical datafile ? This is no archivelog mode. I just set it archivelog mode.
Any ideas to recover back if without archive log mode ? Please help me on this ....

Recover database in NOarchivelog mode :)

Hi all. How to recover a database wich is in noarchivelog mode? B-)
Suppose,
I have 3 redolog groups (with two members in each, the second members are located on another drive ). When first redo log group was 1/2 full I took a full backup. Then there were 2 switches from first to second and from second to third. Now the currnet redolog group - 3 (just started). At this point we faced media failer. How to roll forward changes using backup + online redologs?

Restore your database cold backup (excluding redo logs).
Then issue this command :
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE
provide the names of the last ACTIVE / CURRENT Redo Logs in the database when Oracle prompts for an ArchiveLog.
When Oracle has finished recovery to a consistent point in time, it will return to the command prompt without any error.
Now issue this command :
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS
You would have a Complete Recovery.
This is provided that Oracle had NOT cycled through all the Online Redo Logs since the time when the Cold Backup was taken. (If Oracle had cycled through all the Online Redo Logs, it would have overwrriten the oldest log because it wasn't in ArchiveLog mode).

How to recover a PDB in noarchivelog mode?

Hi all,
Urgent! We have a PDB currently in mount stage after restoring and recovering from backup. Whenever I tried to open it or recover data file, I keep getting this error message:

ORA-01113: file 9 needs media recovery

Taking the datafile offline when the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode

My question is when the database is in No Archive log mode i'm not able to take the datafile offline.
When i tried in my computer i have noticed fallowing.
case1:
SYS>alter database datafile 5 offline;
ERROR at line1;
ORA-01145:offline immediate disallowed unless media recovery enabled.
case 2:
SYS>alter database datafile 5 offline immediate;
ERROR at line 1;
ORA-00933:SQL command not properly ended
case3:
I have tried the command alter database datafile 6 offline drop; (in NOARCHIVELOG mode) and it is showing the same effect as alter database datafile 6 offline; ( in ARCHIVELOG mode).
*In the NOARCHIVELOG mode are we really dropping the datafile to take the datafile offline? Will you please tell me the effect of keyword drop.

System datafile block corruption - no backups and database in NOARCHIVELOG mode

Dear All,
Database version - oracle 11.1 Enterprise
OS - RHELinux 5.8
What are the options of recovering from physical block corruption when there are no backup available to perform block media recovery?
V$DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTION reports two segments corrupted (please see attached image for details).
1 table in system datafile - sys_fba_barrierscn
1 index - (applicaiton index)
What are my options?
I know there is a possibility that the database will not restart after a shutdown due to corruption in system tablespace.
Database is in noarchivelog mode. So online backups are not possible and there aren't any full backups either.
I am thinking of below,
1. Run dbms_repair with fix_block_corruption. - Still database startup might fail?
2. Shutdown the database and take offline full backup with RMAN MAXCorrupt option.

Agree with your first two suggestions .
Also scheduled a expdp job tonight. (Only backup like thing they had was a expdp cron, but until today all the large tables were failing due to small undo_retention).
Yes. Flashback is not used. So hopefully it will not affect the a database restart i guess?
Related to dbms_repair, I was referring to - http://askdba.org/weblog/2010/08/physical-corruption-ora-1578-part-3/.
Where DBMS_REPAIR.FIX_CORRUPT_BLOCKS and DBMS_REPAIR.SKIP_CORRUPT_BLOCKS used.
Which i think will not use any redo.

Can we use online redo log to recover lost datafile in NOARCHIVE mode?

I am working on OCA exam and confued about these 2 sample questions. (similar questions with totally different answer)
Please give me hint about the different between these 2 questions.
** If the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode, and one of the datafile for tablespace USERS is lost, what kind of recovery is possible? (answer: B)
A. All transactions except those in the USERS tablespace are recoverable up to the loss of the datafile.
B. Recovery is possible only up to the point in time of the last full database backup.
C. The USERS tablespace is recoverable from the online redo log file as long as none of the redo log files have been reused since the last backup.
D. Tablespace point in time recovery is available as long as a full backup of the USERS tablespace exists.
** The database of your company is running in the NOARCHIVELOG mode. You perform a complete backup of the database every night. On Monday morning, you lose the USER1.dbf file belonging to the USERS tablespace. Your database has four redo log groups, and there have been two log switches since Sunday night's backup.
Which is true (answer: B)
A. The database cannot be recovered.
B. The database can be recovered up to the last commit.

I think Gaurav is correct, you can recover to the last commit even in NOARCHIVELOG, as long as all the changes in the redo logs have not been overwritten. So answer should be B for question 2.

Recover a deleted record in NOARCHIVELOG mode?

Hello,
I'm running 10gR2 in NOARCHIVELOG mode and we do not take backups (please, let's not get into a discussion about this!).
I need to know if there is any possible way to recover a record once it has been deleted and a COMMIT has been issued? A user inserted two records in the database that they should not have, and I need to verify there is no possible way to recover those once they have been deleted.

UNDO_RETENTION is low threshold value of undo retention. Meaning, Oracle will try to keep at least that time before overwritten.
However, it's not gurranteed if not enough undo tablespace available, meaning it can be overwritten before the value is up if not enough undo tablespace to serve new transaction.
On the other-hand, it will not remove the undo record until it's overwritten, meaning the record could stay there for considerable amount of time if your database is not busy and undo tablespace is big.

Not sure what's the intention to make your delete irreversible,
you could actually create table newtable as select .. from old_table where <except the two records>.
Drop the old table and rename new table.

Recover datafile using cold backup in archivelog mode

Hi,
I have lost one of my datafiles i.e New.dbf from the disk. I have full database cold backup of last sunday. Also I have the archives. Is it possible to restore and recover only the lost datafile? Please help.

If you used RMAN to create the backup, then use RMAN again to restore that one datafile alone (RESTORE DATAFILE n) and then recover it (RECOVER DATAFILE n).
If you didn't use RMAN but you are sure that the backup was a COLD Backup, manually restore the datafile and then issue a RECOVER DATAFILE n from the SQLPlus command.
In either case you must ensure that the datafile is OFFLINE before you restore the file -- or take it OFFLINE with ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE n OFFLINE IMMEDIATE before doing the restore.
After the RECOVER is completed, you must bring it ONLINE with an ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE n ONLINE

ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode

Hi All,
Need help from the gurus.
Currently we are in state unable to do anything.
Was using a database and all of a sudden it crashed. Tried to mount the database, open it, it failed. Also tried the recover and alter database open, even that failed. Errors are as follows.
Errors in file e:\oracle\product\10.2.0 \admin\devrevdb\bdump\devrevdb_p000_2620.trc:
ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error
ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
ORA-00449: background process 'DBW0' unexpectedly terminated with error 1242
ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
In my spfile, the administrator has set only two control files and there is no mirroring and hence do not have another control file that will help me boot the db.
Please let me know how I should go about it. I am only a timebeing person trying to carryout a db activity. Any help would be of great help.

I searched and found that an additional tag of drop needs to be added to the command which you suggested.
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '<filename>' OFFLINE DROP.
i don't know what will the drop command have an effect ?
i have copied the data file to another location. Since i don't know much, i just want to be sure of what im doing.
if the above command is successfull, will it drop the datafile or the tablespace and i can no more use it. How can i use the copied datafile.

I got the error ORA-01152 when I tried restoring an Oracle 10g R1 database from an RMAN backupset into a new server. The error returned when it reached to the level of opening the database in resetlogs.
The database runs on NOARCHIVELOG mode and on Windows 2003 Server SP2 32-bit.

Media failure in Noarchivelog mode

Dear all,
I am running Oracle database 10g in noarchivelog mode.
It has a media failure, a datafile has corrupted. How can i recovery it suppose i dont have the latest backup?

Hi,
since you don't have a backup, and you have a media failure, you cannot recover.
You can set the tablespace/datafile in question offline, and work with whatever is left in the remaining datafiles. (i.e. export/import elsewhere)
if the file is just corrupted, and not lost,
you may be able to get some of the data back using oracles data unloader, but that is going to be expensive (i.e. you would need to engage oracle consulting to do it for you)
i strongly recommend you get familiar with the rman tool next time around, this is quite capable of performing backup and recovery.

Recovery in noarchivelog mode

Scenario :
- Database is in noarchivelog mode.
- There are two redo logs for a database.
- A closed database backup was taken at log sequence 144.
- While the database was at log sequence 145, data file 2 was lost.
how can i recover the database till log sequence 145.
Kindly help me in this regard.

If Current log sequence 145
& If log sequence 144 not overwritten the time cold backup (all datafiles+controlfile+redo logfile ) was taken, then use following steps:
1> shutdown ( if database is open)
2> restore only corrupted datafile
3> startup mount
4>recover database
5> alter database open
