Recovering from oracle system files dead
I have one machine with 2 hard disks. One with oracle system files and the oher one with my database files (Data files, control files and redo log files)
Can I just reinstall another oracle base and attach the old database somehow.
Thanks a lot in advance.
If you mean that you have lost the disk storing ORACLE_HOME, yes this should work but you need to make sure:
- to reinstall exactly the same Oracle patch set version (10.2.0.4 for example) for the same installation type (standard edition/entreprise edition - 32bit or 64bit)
- you need to recreate some configuration files if you have no backup like init file (pfile/spfile), password file, listener.ora and if these files were located in default location.

mohanHi,
EdStevens
Actually I was using SQL Developer. Sorry for the wrong define question. Now the real problem is:
I want to read or extract data in a txt file from Oracle Dump (.dmp) file without using Oracle sqlPlus or Oracle Database.
No need to say that i am able to extract dump data using sqlPlus. But for that, there is a little burden to install oracle database
or sql Developer.
I also listen about Oracle Loader a little bit. Is it a tool for providing extraction of data from Oracle dump file.
Thanks for your previous reply,
And now waiting for your suggestion.

I believe that I have a connection leak somewhere and that an Oracle

I get the following error when trying to access the data source

How can I recover from this? The WL Server console shows 0 connections

There is import which provides me data as graphical way. But i need extract data in such a way so that i could able to use in my application.
thanks,
mohanThis isn't a SQLDeveloper question. You will get better answers in the Database - General forum.
Oracle dump files produced by the exp or expdp utilities are inproprietary formats which can only be read by the imp or impdp utilities respectively.
The best way to get data out of a dump file is to import it into a database and then extract it to plain text files using SQL.
Alternatively, leave it in the database and your application can access it there.
The exp dump file is mostly plain text, but the format is not published so you could waste a lot of time figuring it out. -

But just in case anyone else does the same stupid thing - here is how I fixed it.

RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL CANCEL;

Recover from source system deletion
Hi experts,
Our source system assignment to ECC was accidentally deleted which subsequently deleted the transfer stuctures/rules. Apart from restoring from backup, how can we recover the transfer rules? We could manually assign the source system again but there too many to be performed as well as we could not possibly recall all the routines, formulas and infoobject mapping.
Assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
ismailHi Arun,
Re-transport from QA is one of the options and our Basis is recommending that as well. Our options in order of preference is as follows:
1) Restore from backup
2) Re-transport from QA
3) Manually re-create
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi All,
We faced a problem with the weblogic password as we kept getting the authentication error when we tried to login to console or sbconsole.
We had to reset the password for weblogic admin user for which we renamed the ldap directory in the AdminServer/data/ and reset the password.
Now we are able to login to console using the weblogic password, but not able to login to sbconsole.
As the ldap folder was renamed, the users and groups were also lost. Since I dont have the security realms export, I am not able to restore the data.
I still have the old ldap folder. Can you please help me in recovering the groups and users from the old ldap folder?
Regards,
AnupHi Anup,
Try this once,
For change the password you need do the next step:
1.- You need access to sbconsole
2.- Click at the left menu panel in configuration security.

Invalid system disk when recovering from USB system image
I have a Toshiba L650 running win7. The internal disk failed recently so I replaced it with one I bought locally. I successfully recovered the DVD based system image I took soon after purchasing the laptop. I am now trying to
recover later system images I made to an attached USB drive. I am using a system recovery disk to boot into the recovery process and am successfully finding the USB based system images. However soon after the recovery process begins I get an eror like "Cannot recover to system disk". There are 3 reasons provided
a. system disk is in the exclusion list - no I checked
b. system disk is a USB disk - no the system image is on the USB drive but the system disk is the internal HDD
c. system disk is invalid - no I just installed a system image from DVD onto it - no problems
How do I proceed? There is obviously a valid system image but I just can't get iti nto the machine.
cheers,Usually such message appears if you try to boot from CD which is no bootable.
Possibly the BIOS cannot boot up from the PCMCIA drive and tries to boot from the HDD.
But on the HDD the OS is missing and therefore the message appears.
Did you try to force the booting manually?
You could try to press the C button immediately after the notebook starting for booting from PCMCIA drive.

How I recovered from nVidia System Utility "Damaging" my K8N Neo2 Platinum
The posts I read said to reset CMOS and Reflash. Neither worked. So here's what I did.
The first thing I tried was just reset the CMOS. No go. Then I wanted to re-flash, but my floppy wouldn't read. So I did:
1) With Power Supply Plugged into wall and turned on, reset the CMOS
2) Turned off power supply and unplugged from wall.
3) Removed CMOS battery
4) Reinstalled CMOS battery
5) Waited another minute for capacitors to fully flush any remaining charge
6) Reflash BIOS
After that, 100% back to normal.
Now in reality, I'm thinking if I would have turned off/unplugged my power supply, and then reset CMOS via jumper, waited a minute, and rebooted then reflash, I'd be ok. So you could simply the steps above and try that. But those steps above worked 100%.
Hope this helps someone in the future!MSI Warn about 1) in manual

MSI Reminds You...
You can clear CMOS by shorting 2-3 pin while the system is off.
Avoid clearing the CMOS while the
system is on; it will damage the mainboard.
There are two methods for clearing the Bios:-
1) Short Mathod
1-1) disconnect the power cable.
1-2) push the power button to drain the capacitors
1-3) Move the CMOS jumper to the clear position, from it's original 1-2 position to 2-3
1-4) Wait a minute to be sure the CMOS has been cleared. Take your Time
1-5) Return the CMOS jumper to it's original position 1-2
1-6) Plug in power cable.
1-7)restart computer
1-8) enter bios and select load optimized Bios defaults - save & exit
1-9) let pc reboot, if you have any settings you want changing do them now.
like hard disk boot order etc.,
1-10) hopefully youll boot to windows
2) Long Reset (Battery Removed)
From Syar2003 21-11-04 03:02 Thread 5 Short Beeps
Try disconnecting the AC Lead from PSU .
push the power button to drain the capacitors
Remove the battery for the cmos rom .
And place the jbat jumper in discharge (check manual for instructions) .
Leave it until tomorrow like this .
Later ,, first set the jumper back in "keep cmos" position .
Mount the battery .
Connect AC to the PSU .
And try starting the computer .
When/if bios posts with cmos checksum error .. press F1 or "del" key
Dont use F1 but hit "del" key
and load optimized BIOS defaults + save + exit -

How to recover deleted back-up file(s) from iTunes?
I'm needing to figure out a way to recover back-up files that iTunes removed during the recent install to the update 11.0.1.
I went to back up my phone manually. (Which I've been doing for years) I've never used or enabled auto-sync. Before I start a back-up I re-name my phone in a format like this "iPhone0913" This is to eliminate any confusion. That iTunes might try to interpet as, a duplication of another back-up file. By it having the same name (Which I know it won't but I do it anyway) Before the installation of the new update. I had 8 back-up files all dated and in order with the name designation that I've proivded. For example: 1. iPhone0105 2, iPhone1106 etc. as the numeric designation is for the month and year. So Oct. 2005 was my oldest back up file.
Once the installation/update took place, I plugged my phone in and clicked on back-up to this computer. All was moving along as it should, since this was only a back-up. Not a back-up and restore!! At any rate, I went through iTunes to verify that the back-up was there. (As I always do) And low and behold.. GONE!!
The only back up that was showing, was the back-up of "iPhone0913" I did'nt go into panic mode at that point. Thinking that maybe iTunes moved or maybe archive the back-ups. I was trying to remain optimistic, but I knew there was'nt much that could be down. But maybe, I'm missing something.. I was able to locate 4 of 8 back up files. Only because I had backed them up from another drive.
I don't have Windows System Restore, enabled, So I was'nt able to recover that way. I'm still beside myself that this even took place.
At this point, I'm looking for any recommendations, sympathy.
