Recovery Media for Tecra R840 - What size USB or DVD?

What size USB (or DVD media) is needed to create the basic recovery media?  I saw the post for the user who also had MS Office 2010, but what size USB (or DVDs) would be needed to create the basic recovery media (ie, without the Office suite) - a search of the manual failed to provide the answer?
Thanks - FB

I believe the Recovery Media Creator should specify if you continue to go through it.

  • OS : Win XP Prof SP3 ... with Recovery Media for Win 7 Prof

    i. 2nd attempt. The 1st didn't show.
ii.This is my first post in this forum, so I'm not sure whether email Notification is automatically sent if there's a reply.
iii. On Nov 22, 2010, I contacted Toshiba pre-sales Support for info on the same subject.  I haven't received a response yet.
    Hello;
    1) I'm about to buy a new Toshiba laptop:
    .... Toshiba TECRA A11-S3540
    .... OS : Win XP Prof SP3
......... : with recovery media for Win 7 Prof
    .... Processor : Intel Core i7 - 620M
    .................. : 2.66 GHz / 3.33 GHz with Turbo boost
    2) What is particularly attractive about this model (at least on paper and as I interpret its specs) is that it comes with Win XP SP3 OS, and I can upgrade to Win 7, if I choose to and at my convenience, with what appears to be a minimum hassle.
    3) I have reviewed Jim's article at:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Recovery-media/m-p/9148#U9148
but still have some basic questions, and I'd very much appreciate your help:
a--> What does " ... with recovery media for Win 7 Prof" really mean ??
b--> What does it include ??
c--> Does the laptop come with Win 7 OS software pre-stored on the HD ??
d--> Is there a time limit for installing Win 7 on the unit ??
e--> What if 6-12 months after purchasing the laptop, tried to install Win 7 and it failed and I ended up with NO OS ??
f--> Can I go back safely to the Win XP Prof SP3 OS ??
g--> Does Toshiba consider failure to install Win 7 as a major malfunction and would replace the unit at no cost within the provided 3-yr warranty ??
Your comments and advice would be gratefully received.
    Kind regards.
    Solved!

    Tecra M11-S3450
I'll take another shot, Monir (with the same proviso that I'm probably not the best one here to reply).
    d. Does it mean the unit comes with the 2 versions of Windows 7 (the 32 and the 64 bit) pre-installed ??
    e. Can one choose which of the 2 Win 7 version to use ??
    f. Let us say the laptop comes with the Win 7 32-bit version:
    g. What does " ... with Windows XP Professional downgrade" really mean ??
    h. Does it mean the Win XP OS software is there if you want to downgrade from the pre-installed Win 7 ??
    i. Does it mean ONLY the option to downgrade from Win 7 is there, but one has to buy Windows XP OS if he wants to install it ??
d&e. My guess is that when the laptop arrives, you'll have the opportunity when you first boot to choose which version to put on the hard drive. They are stored in another (hidden) partition on the same drive.
g&h. It means the same as before (except this time for Windows XP), that there are recovery discs included which enable you to restore the hard drive to Windows XP.
    i. Everything is included. You don't have to buy anything.

  • How to get a Recovery media for Satellite L305D S5900

I am a Ghanaian who bought a Toshiba laptop about seven months ago. The model is Satellite L305D S5900. I am also in Ghana. I found out from the documents that came with the laptop and your forum that I can order for Recovery media for it with no charge on the software itself.
How do I get this Recovery media for my machine as I am in a different country? What are the things involved?
    Thank You.

Your T500 can burn CD's at the least and if you can access Windows, you should be able to burn a set of recovery discs.
Other than that, I suggest calling support to see what they can do to help. The number in the U.S. is 1-800-426-7378.

  • Recovery Media for Windows 7

    Hello everyone.
I want to buy a Satellite Pro L450-EZ1542.  The statement about the Operating System states:
Genuine Windows® XP Professional (32-bit, SP3) with Recovery Media for Genuine Windows® 7 Professional.
Does this mean that I will be receiving the "Windows 7 Operating System Disks" with the package.  Also does this mean that the computer comes with Windows XP Pro installed.   Thank you everyone.

That's what it sounds like.  You would need to contact ToshibaDirect to verify that though unless someone here has purchased one and knows.  This is just a bunch users helping other users, not official Toshiba Support.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • I need recovery media for an old Toshiba but apparently can't order it. Help!

The other day my TOSHIBA laptop - MODEL # PSM43U-01700P - must've got a virus or something because it started to slow and was unable to open some programs. Thinking the computer was about to go, i started saving my personal files onto a disk, and just after doing so the computer Blue screened and now upon start up it stops and says that it's missing a file <Windows root>\System 32\ ntoskrnl.exe and must have it added in order to continue. I of course, however, didn't realize that upon buying the computer years ago that i should have created my own recovery disks, thinking foolishly that the company would always have this media on hand to order should the need for it arise(Plus i doubt i would've done it properly since i'm not really a computer genius, surprise, surprise)
    Anyway. . .
My problem is that when i tried to order the recovery media for this ancient model, i was told that Toshiba no longer carries this models media at all. So i was just wondering if possibly there's a similar model's media that Toshiba does carry that i'd be able to order instead of this model's that would still work with my computer. I was able to do this with an old DELL I had, and was hoping the same thing was possible with a TOSHIBA.
I'm crossing my fingers here guys. Hope to hear back from you. I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • How do I obtain product recovery media for my Satelite Pro A100?

When I purchased my A100, I was not given any product recovery media. I assumed that it would be pre - installed on a partition on my hard drive. Seems not to be the case.
I wish to resize my primary partition to enable me to install linux on the space that would then be available. Whilst Linux will do that for me, just in case there is an error, I need a copy of the product recovery media for XP and other pre-installed software. Toshiba's contact details on the site are hard to locate.
So I wondered if anyone can point me in the correct direction? I am a UK user.

    Hi
If the recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook, then you should be able to create an recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
I think you didnt read the user manual after you have received the notebook
Anyway usually the Recovery disk could be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But not all recovery disks would be available especially if the notebook series has been discontinued this means that you could not order a recovery disk if the notebook series is too old You could also try to contact an local ASP (service partner) in your country for a help and could try to order such disk there.
Otherwise you have to use an original MS Windows disk all needed drivers are downloadable from the Toshiba European driver page.

  • Need Recovery Media for Satellite A660-042 Model PSAW3C-042017

The hard drive on my Satellite A660-042 Model PSAW3C-042017 died on me. I have installed a new HDD but need the RECOVERY MEDIA. The Laptop was purchased in Canada, Toshiba USA does not seem to have the Recovery Media for this model and Toshiba Canada will not mail it to the USA. Can anyone help?

    Satellite A660-042 (PSAW3C-042017)
All the stuff for your Canadian model is here.
Toshiba Canada will not mail it to the USA.
I'm really surprised at that. Toshiba in the US mails them to Canada for US models.
    Have you called 800-663-0378 yourself?
If that's true, you'll need to have an acquaintance order the discs and reship them.

  • Where can I get recovery media for Equium A100-549

I need help please, I bought an A100-549 over the internet, it did'nt come with any recovery media.
It now has a serious virus and I need to restore it. Where can I get recovery media for my laptop?
    Cheers
    perfecto

    Hi,
where did you buy it?? On Ebay? If yes then you must contact the person which sold you the machine. If you have no chance to get such recovery, then you will have to contact a
local ASP to obtain a recovery.
If you dont want to obtain a recovery, and you have a genuine Windows copy lying around, then install it, download the appropriate drivers for that machine from the toshiba website and install
    them afterwards you installed windows.

  • Where can I get the driver for my HP DE8A4L external USB CD/DVD drive?

Where can I get the driver for my HP DE8A4L external USB CD/DVD drive?
On the label it says, Model HSTNN-PD06-91
    and
    HP PN: 518819-001 Rev.B
I've had my Mini 110-1000 running our music system for a couple of years, no complaints.  When I wanted a CD/DVD drive, I purchased a DE8A4L external USB drive directly from HP.  It didn't come with a driver disc.  When I plug it in, the USB subsystem does not enable it.  Device Manager shows a yellow exclamation point, saying, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware..."   It is running Windows XP Home Edition SP3.
    What gives with this device?

Following up on tactic 2) above, I upgraded the BIOS from version F07 to the latest version available on the HP download site, version F19.  This went well, but unfortunately the system still does not recognize the device.
When I try to Device Manager, and select the DE8A4L DVD device, and try "search for a device driver", it says it cannot find a better match for the driver already installed.
This Mini 110-1000 only came with 1 Gb RAM, and Windows XP Home.   Is one of these a critical limitation for running an external USB DVD drive?

  • Toshiba purchased W7 recovery media for C50-A has multiple issues, totally weird---what to do?

First I ordered the recovery 'disk' and they sent me the usb flash.I installed it in my laptop to go back to W7 after a tech who replaced my HD installed 8.1 which I did 'not' want. So  I installed from usb..BUT.....First the tobisha service station is deader than a doornail and not working.Right off the bat it would only install updates off and on.Half of them fail the first time.It will show installing updates when actually no updates ae being installed.90% of the time I get a 'toshiba provided IE 10 has stopped responding.Back and forward button work only about 50% of the time.  Clicking on close program buttons or cancel dont work.Trying to download IE 11 as either standard and adm user wont work and aborts...saying it cant find  user file. Most of my Function keys dont work. The only things I have dowloaded since installing are Avast and Malware bytes and these issues existed 'Before' I installed those..No, I do not have any virusus. No, none of the ms provided 'fixes' have wored to fix update program. No, runing sf/scan to fix any errors shows no errors. So what the hell?....the recovery media made this special order W7 even buggier than it was when I first got it..and it was plenty buggy when I got it. I am done done done with toshiba....second piece of **bleep** laptop I have bought in the past 3 years and the HD on both have gone bad at a year and half.

post your full model and part number! You may already know this: f2 to reach biosbios for windows 7 is secure boot disabled and advanced boot options set to CSMBios setting for W 8 and W8.1 secure boot enabled and Advanced boot options set to UEFIThese bios settings may need changed back to work for windows 7 your tech may have changed them to install windows 8  you may have problems if they are not changed back. On your last post I put this information:If you have the Toshiba recovery usb for Windows 7 INSTRUCTIONS:First - Important Bios changes when changing from Windows 8 to Windows 7:Completely shut down laptop (Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.) then restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot modeUEFI and CSM or legacy  (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM or legacy for windows 7)For windows 7 change to CSM or Legacy mode.On the some models you may have to enable ro disable the secure boot before it will let you change the advanced boot mode to from UEFI to CSM.second -Also in bios setup utility select - Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to disable secure boot for windows 7.Third -While in the bio's change boot order to boot from your usb recovery first and the hard drive last.                        You will need to delete all partitions before installing windows 7 this is done in the forth step.Forth - Insert your windows 7 disc or USB and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system. post your results! Sometimes you do get a bad copy of the recovery media and Toshiba has sent out a replacement before.

  • Can I get BOOTABLE recovery media for my satellite l650?

Headache Introduction:  I'm an IT professional with moderate support and system build experience. I bought a Toshiba laptop 6 weeks ago that is suddenly VERY messed up.  I start it up, the "starting windows" screen appears, hangs, then reboots. Upon reboot, it tries to enter system recovery, which merely leads to a black screen with a cursor and no options (waiting doesn't make them appear either).  Windows won't completely load, safe mode won't load, system recovery hangs, and holding down "0" to get to the boot partition still results in the machine trying to load windows, then it hangs, etc., wash, rinse, repeat...
OS Reinstallation seems necessary here, but what with Toshiba's AWESOME decision to no longer include bootable recovery media with their products, it seems I'm stuck with a 6 week old, $550 paper weight. I followed the instructions to make recovery DVDs (5 of them), but they don't seem to be bootable (even when i set my BIOS to boot from optical, it still eventually goes to "starting windows", hangs, etc.).
Toshiba wants me to send the laptop back for repair, which will take a month, and likely be necessary again X months from now when the machine inevitably hits a similar roadblock. I'm a fairly knowledgable nerd, and the prospect of being tethered to Toshiba anytime things get rocky is frankly unacceptable.  Simply put, I WANT MY BOOTABLE OS INSTALLATION MEDIA!  This is ESSENTIAL to repairing a truly troubled machine.  It's like they sold me a car, locked the hood shut, and now I have to ship it back to the factory for an oil change...
My question:  Should my self-made recovery discs even be bootable?  Is the recovery media sold on this site  bootable (I ordered them anyway...)?  Must I buy a SECOND copy of Windows 7 to get a bootable recovery option? I WANT MY BOOTABLE MEDIA BAAACK!!! (Sorry for shouting.)
    Help?

1 Shut down and turn off your computer.
2 Do one of the following:
If your recovery files are on DVDs, insert the first recovery
DVD into your optical disc drive.
If your recovery files are on a USB flash drive, connect the
USB flash drive to your computer.
3 Turn on your computer. When the initial screen displays, press
    F12.
    The boot menu displays.
4 Using the arrow keys, select the DVD option or the USB Flash
option, depending on which type of media you are using, and
    then press Enter.
5 A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is
executed all data on your internal storage drive will be deleted
and rewritten. Click Yes to continue.
6 When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens and the Selecting a
Process screen displays, select Recovery of Factory Default
    Software and then click Next.
7 Select one of the following options:
Recover to out-of-box state (recommended recovery
method)—If you want to recover the original factory
    image
Recover without changing the hard drive partitions—
If you want to recover the C: partition only, leaving other
    partitions you have created intact
Recover to a custom size partition—If you want to
recover the C: drive to its out-of-box state and specify a
custom size for the C: drive. Note: This option deletes all
    other partitions from the drive.
8 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery
    process.
When the process is complete, a message displays indicating
that the drive has been recovered.
9 Press any key on the keyboard to restart the computer.

  • Lenovo Provides 32 bit and 64 bit versions of VISTA & 7 by recovery media for FREE BUT HOW???

    Lenovo advertises this title:
When is it possible to switch between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Operating Systems by using recovery media?

How do I contact a Lenovo Support Centre to place an order. Link brings you to contact numbers for Lenovo and after I call them they say these numbers are for IBM and it is only for hardware support.
I am wondering got know how on earth they accept orders for this type of complex issue by phone???
Specially that I am dealing with so special situation and I need some e-mail address to describe it Lenovo and wait for the answer...
I appreciate it if somebody could help me with this...
Thanks in advance for your help guys...

    Awesome dude,
Thanks for well described reply. I enjoyed it specially when I found out you don't work for Lenovo.
I am curious to know something. I could buy Windows 7 Bit for a very good price form Microsoft offers for university students that it probably cost me the same price as recovery media. Do you think it is a good idea to install a totally fresh windows 7 (NOT from the recovery media) on my t400s?
I am asking this because when you install operation system with provided recovery Media it builds another partition
with this name SERVICEV003 that is about 2 Gb and contains system files and stuff related to my laptop. I am afraid if I install windows without using recovery media but using Microsoft original DVDs then my laptop doesn't function properly?
What is your idea about this issue,
Thanks again for all your help, I appreciate it,
    Cheers,

  • Recovery Media for windows 7 on Sat pro l450-ez1542

The detailed specs say this laptop should have come with the recovery media in the box for windows 7. It was preloaded with 7 but downgraded to XP. I want windows 7 but there was no disk in the box. I have contacted tech support several times and have gotten different answers. First I was told that the recovery media would fix it  and there is no disk, but that only recovered XP. Now I am being told that there should have been a disk in the box (which there wasn't and im sure of it) and now toshiba is trying to charge me $25 for the disk i never got. No one knows what they're talking about! Please help me... i have a product key that is on the bottom of the laptop.
