Red & green centering pop-up guides and slowness

1) I love ID cs5’s auto pop-up guides. But, I can’t quite figure the difference between them. Which one is the absolute center, etc.
2) CS5 seems to be slow in some things .. like when I hit close to close a window. It’s not instant. Also, when I'm “scrolling” and item up or down with the arrow, it‘s kinda jerky.

Hi Jim.
The red guides are relative to page features like page or column centers (and work when you can't see the whole page). Green ones are guides for snapping to other objects, and only appear for objects you can actually see onthe screen at the time.
Try changing the setting for Live Screen Drawing in the prefs to Delayed. That should help with scrolling, but the window closing may just be ID writing all the changes to disk.

Project Assets Red Green Arrows and media not found

There were no results for Project Asset Red Green Arrows? I imported and edited a fair amount of video from one file folder and edited it and rendered. Then I imported about the same number of video clips from another file folder and they time line won't find the media? A box appears and asks me where it is, but it will not accept it when I find and select. The second batch of media remains off line. I am guessing I need to assemble all clips in one file folder? whats going on here and how do I over come it? thanks

The bottom line is that you cannot move or delete source media that went into a project after you have saved closed the project. Otherwise, you will run into a nasty media reconnect situation characterized by those "Where is the file.....?" when you go to reopen the project. Those messages can be used for reconnecting the missing media. Replace Footage feature can also be used for replacing missing media. More on that another time. Let us focus on the "Where is the file....?" for now.
When you import media from the hard drive into a project, you end up with copies, not the originals, in Project Assets. And, those copies need to trace make to the hard drive location where the originals are and where the program recognizes them..
Reflecting back, do you see any place in your workflow when you could have moved or deleted the source media that went into the project after you saved closed it?
Another possibilities that should not be overlooked (as nealeh mentioned), if you are importing your media from an external hard drive, the drive letter of the drive could have change by itself unexpectedly. Did you see such a drive letter change if that scenario fits what you have?
And, if you have existing projects using the media that you are planning on "organizing", beware of what your "re-organization" may end up doing to your other projects, for example, lots of reconnects because of this action.

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

This could well be the notorious Mac Defender - which is an annoying program that tricks you into thinking that your Mac is infected with a virus, when the only infection is Mac Defender itself.
When surfing the web never EVER click on a link that says "Free anti-virus scan" or "Scan now" - they are nearly always scams which will end up infecting your computer. Although Macs are resistant to viruses, they're not resistant to user stupidity.
If you Google "Mac defender" then you'll find plenty of sites with instructions on how to remove this minor nuisance. Take this as a warning that you need to be more careful in your surfing habits.

HT4108 I have a apple component AV TV out cable (red, green,blue + red,white) and have had this connected to TV for about 6 months working fine. I moved the TV disconnected cables to move now I can only get video and no sound back on TV. Any suggestions

The red, green and yellow buttons in the upper left corner of the screen disappear whenever I open Safari. I cannot minimize the Safari window which I often need to do if I am coordinating multiple windows. Does anyone know how to get those buttons back

Red green and yellow buttons

Could someone explain how the three buttons in upper left corner are suppose to work.I know that the red is to close out the current page.The yellow is to minimize down to dock.but the green I thought was to either shrink page size to user preference and then when pressed again go to full size.Do you need to set both of these sizes? The other day I was on MLB.com and the next thing I know my screen became about half size then I hit the green button and it got slightly smaller.Up till that time I always had full sreen.Not quite sure why or the correct way to fix this.

Except for iTunes, it is consistent. But, you have to understand the concept and what is being displayed. The Zoom button toggles between a user state and the smallest size which will hold all of the content of the window. In Text Edit, there is no wrapping. A line of text will stretch across the entire screen. So, if you Zoom to the content state, the window will fill the screen. If you tell TE to wrap to page, the zoom width will be only page width, not full screen. Mail is similar in that there are no line breaks in a message, so the smallest size is the full screen. I can't defend iTunes and the debacle that is it's Zoom button.
I think the observation of the red button is correct; if an app has one window it quits, if it has multiple windows the window closes but the app stays open.
The Close button closes the document window. In accordance with the user interface guidelines, if the App has no reason to stay open without a document window, the app can close if the last document window is closed. Utilities will often do this. A Document editor will likely not close the app as it is much faster (with very little resource overhead) to keep the app open waiting until the user begins a new document.
Also realize that these are not System defined behaviors. They are listed in the User Interface Guidelines, but it is up to the developer to implement the features to comply with the UIGs.

How do I make the red-green-yellow icons and the text in window title bars larger?

The title text is a little too small to just see - I have to concentrate on it to read it - and I can't tell the red-green-yellow icons apart without staring at them. Yes, my sight is quite poor; I'm already sitting as close as I can.

If you are receiving popups, it is possible that this is being caused by an extension that you have installed on Firefox.

Start up and stuck with the flashing color (red green blue yellow...)

I just bought Macbook pro(My first time with Mac product) today, and when i unbox the MBP it was have a good start everything is ok, than I test the DVD drive to make sure it work or not, than i put the VCD to it. it was stuck (with the flashing color). than i dont'know what to do. I press the shutdown button around 10s the pc is shutdown...I open it again and eject the VCD, than I was stuck with flashing color (red green blue yellow...) i have try to restart many time buy pressing the button but still the same. than i keep it away for about 1hour than I open it again It was WORKING AGAIN the same as I first started, than I restart, but the same problem happen again (flashing color (red green blue yellow...).
1. I have tried to boot from DVD that come with the MBP holding C but nothing happen
2. I have tried to reset PRAM (Command-Option-P-R) not work
So what wrong with that?
Could anyone help me to fix this out?

Problem extracting red, green and blue from ColorModel

I'm attempting to write a piece of code to extract the red, green and blue components from an image using the ColorModel class. When I attempt to run my code below, I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: More than one component per pixel. Does anyone know how to extract an integer representation of the red in a pixel in order to solve the problem? Here's the code snippet:

You are misunderstanding the ColorModel methods. The color model can translate between colors and pixels, but it doesn't know or hold pixel data.
I don't know the JAI, but if you use J2SE classes like BufferedImage, this is easy to do:

Colorblind red/green, how does that affect PS and what are the options.

Like so many men, I am Colorblind (not in full) for red/green. As a photographer I manipulate pictures like all of us. My main tools are LR-3 and PS-5.
I operate in the Pro-Photo colorspace on am Imac with a Eizo graphical monitor all calibrated.
The problem arrises when I start to work on skin and other elements, as I am coloblind (partial) my manipulations tend to result in a bit to redisch pictures. A comment I receive many times.
I don't see it that way, but after a colorblindness test it was comfirmed.
So here is the question: Is there a tool/colorprofile/colospace or whatever that could be used by me as a red/green colorblind person so that I can manipulate the pictures as I would like to.
The colorprofile/space/tool would compensate. Once done with the job I could then simply convert it back to a normal human view. Does this exist ?
Note that I always work with graycard and a ColorChecker from X-rite..
Any recommendation is more then welcome.

Interesting… If I understand the issue correctly, you need the opposite of this:
This shows a person with normal vision how an image will look to a color blind person. I can see how the opposite may pose quite a challenge for the programmers.

Are you running any Firewalls or Anti-Virus software? If so, disable all of that stuff & try again.

PINWHEEL! Keeps popping up and slowing for no reason...

Anytime I am in safari or mail, the progress indicator will pop up for no reason and slow the show down for no reason! I have office installed, but never really use it, and only usually run safari, mail and itunes all at once.
I ran disk utility and came up with nada. Rebooted after removing the battery and holding down "C"...
Any ideas?

If the network is involved with the pinwheel, I generally find that it is a broken DNS server. While I prefer using the DNS servers from my ISP, if I experience problems, I generally give the OpenDNS server a try:

As an experiment, try entering these DNS server addresses in your Network System Preferences. If they do not work, you can always remove them and go back to the settings the way they were when you started.
NOTE: The first DNS server address is the most important, as name lookups will always wait for the first server to timeout before trying the 2nd server, so you want a reliable first server.

My classmate has an iPhone 4/4s, the camera has Red Green and Blue circles while mine doesn't have that circles.

Does your classmate have an iPhone 4? Or a 4S? There is no such thing as a 4/4S. Even with the same version of iOS, different models may have different features. As far as I know, the live filters are only available on the iPhone 5 and later.
