Red line on iPad in Safari

I feel I am going mad.  If I am using Safari on my iPad 2 and touch to scroll a thin red line appears.  Any ideas?   Thanks.  Angus

Sorry but it's a display problem, you need to take it back to Apple. Hope it's under warranty. Good luck

    Hello there, Victoria.
    Great job on troubleshooting on your own. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps to review and additional recomendations:

    Resolving issues
    If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
    Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
    Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
    Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
    If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
    Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
    Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
    Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
    If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
    If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.
    Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • IPad red line across screen

    I was just using my iPad normally when all of a sudden, a red line appeared across the screen one pixel wide. I tried to restart and reset. Is there some other solution?

    If resetting didn't fix it, it appears you have a bad screen. You'll have to contact Apple by phone or at the Genius bar at an Apple store.
    They may replace your iPad, even if it is out of warranty, though I strongly doubt that. Otherwise, you can purchase a refurbished one on exchange as long as there is no water damage:
    If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
    A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
    Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.
    Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. Replacement iPads have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare service contract coverage, whichever is longer. Please see the AppleCare+ for iPad and Apple Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • My ipad has red lines on the screen

    My ipad has red lines running across the screen, this does not happen all the time, but seems to affect the black colour on screen, is there a solution to this please

    You can try to reset your iPad:
    Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button (also known as power button) simultaneously.
    Continue holding both buttons until the iPad shuts down and begins to restart, this might take up to 20 seconds.
    You may stop holding the buttons when you see the Apple logo.
    You completed the reset successful, you can now try if your iPad works again.
    If it won't work, it means you have a hardware problem. If you have warranty, you can repair it for free, visit your local Apple Store or Premium Reseller to let them repair your phone.

  • On my iPad Air Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow.

    On my iPad Air , Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow on an internet site. Sometimes it doesn't crash but the slideshow is freezes. Any idea why?

    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Apple and Red line Battery

    My ipad keeps going between the apple and a red line battery. It will not charge. I have tried holding both buttons several times and that hasn't helped. Any other suggestions of what can be done.

    1. Reset iPad
    2. Try another wall socket
    3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
    4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
    5. Clean Lightning port with compress air

  • I have a gen one iPad and Safari keeps shutting down for no reason Just crashes. Is this common?

    I had my original Ipad replaced because of this but it still occurs and is getting more frequent as time progresses.
    Has anyone else had this problem and can you suggest a fix. My I pad is not old enough not to be working properly.

    You tagline shows iOS 6.0.1, but you said you have the first generation iPad. iOS 6 does not run on the iPad 1, so I assume that you're running 5.1.1.
    You may have low memory issues with the iPad which some users have talked about with the original iPad running iOS 5. You can try some basic troubleshooting steps and see if they help. You might want to see if the iPad and Safari behave better when you keep apps in the recents tray to a minimum....close the apps if don't need quick access to them.
    Anyway, give these things a shot.
    Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Reboot the iPad.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • IPad 2 Safari javascript window.open bug

    I am building a web app that uses the PicUp app to upload photos.
    Part of how it works requires me to open a new tab with javascript, which fires some script to open a new url in an iframe on the previous page.
    I have named the 'windows' accordingly, and it works properly on the iPad 1 (Safari).
    But in iPad 2, the window.open function does not seem to take in a target window parameter, resulting in broken UI. The new tab opens, but the script to open a new URL in the other page's iframe does not work.
    My image still uploads, but the user would be confused, as there is no confirmation screen.
    Help!
    PS: I would also like to comment that it is fairly convoluted to have to download a 3rd party app just to handle http uploads, something every other browser can do natively. What is the reasoning behind not allowing iOS Safari to upload like normal?
    Thanks
    John

    Was able to produce a small test case.
    To demonstrate this problem, there are three pages.  You will need to load window1.html.  That page has buttons to load the other windows.  Make sure all files are in the same directory.
    window1.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.name='win1';
    var si = setInterval('check()', 1000);
    function check()
        var d = new Date();
        var s = d.toString() + ' hash: ' + window.location.hash + "\n";
        var log = document.getElementById('log');
        log.value += s;
        log.scrollTop = log.scrollHeight
    </script>
    <form name='myform'>
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start second window (no close)' onclick="window.open('window2.html', 'win2')">
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start third window (with close)' onclick="window.open('window3.html', 'win2')">
    <br />
    <textarea cols=80 rows=10 id='log'></textarea>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    window2.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from2','win1');
    </script>
    <p>This is window2.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    window3.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from3','win1');
    window.close();
    </script>
    <p>This is window3.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    Test scenario:
    If you run window1.html, you will see it is updating the text field with the time and displaying the current hash.  If you press the button 'Start second window (no close)', you will see another tab open up and stay there and the window1 text field will display the hash 'from2'.
    You can close the window2 tab if you want now (don't think it matters).
    If you then press the button 'Start third window (with close), the window1 tab is gone and window3 is still up there.  The title bar says it is window3 but it is not even displaying 'This is window3.html'  If I do a view source (using a javascript bookmark), it does show the window3 script but the <p> and text is not there.  Probably died in the script before parsing was finished.  This is the first problem.
    Now load the window1.html again in the browser (type on URL line).  If you press the 'Start second window (no close)", the one that worked before, and click on the window1 tab to view it and display the updating text box, you will see it did not see the hash change.  This looks like that physical tab was corrupted in Safari from the window 3 test.  I just found if you open a new tab, the new tab will be ok to run the second window (no close test).  At least until you run window3 (with the close).

  • MBP red lines

    Apple, I have been a very loyal customer for decades, I own a MBP 15", iPad, iPad Air, iPhone.  For the first time I am extremely ****** off.
    My MBP 15" (2011) for which I paid BIG bucks suddenly started to experience the dreaded "red lines" video failure.  The failure is already a classic: during start up the screen shows thin red lines (seen better over the apple) and the the screen goes completely gray.
    There are so many people that has had the same experience after 3-4 years of use that I was sure that Apple would be repairing it for free.  I sent my machine to the official Apple service in Chile and they say the logic boar needs to be replaced for aprox US$1000 - US$1500.
    Not only there was no a repair plan but Apple has not responded to any of the posts regarding this very common problem.  This is not the way a company like Apple should treat his customers.
    I will not pay another US$1000 for the machine.  For the first time I am considering what looked impossible before: stop using Apple computers.
    Sincerely
    JN

    Were you ever able to resolve this?  My friend's early 2011 MacBook Pro with your same specs except with 10.6.8 just did the same thing while Google Earth 7.1.2.2019 was running.  Never any other issues, just happened out of the blue.

  • HT4199 What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and the bars come up but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

    What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and it show I'm on my wifi, but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says, Safari cannot open this page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

    When you click on the WiFi network name, have you also provided the password for accessing the network?  You should get a dialogue box asking you for the security information the first time you connect.
    If you are not able to connect, you might want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
    Then go back to Settings > WiFi and select your network name again and make sure the security information is now entered correctly.
    If you still cannot connect, power down the router, wait a few minutes, power up the router, with the iPad powered down the whole time, and after the router has had several minutes to stabilize power up the iPad.  See if it now connects correctly.
