Red Timeline

I have adobe premiere pro cs3 and i am running it on a mac. my problem is that when i drag a clip into the timeline the timeline goes red and then after a while like this below. has anyone had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it. thanks

Oliver,
With the Mac OS, video card drivers should be updated, when on updates their OS. Have you updated your Mac OS?
If so, and you still do not have resolution to your problem, please list your video card's make and model. That will help others help you.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Red Timeline Box is not smooth when sliding

    In the editing mode, I am selecting the red timeline to move
    the timeline throughout the time of the slide. The movement of the
    red line jumps around and is not smooth. When selecting the play
    button, The slide works but you see the timeline stops and then
    jumps to another time on the slide. It is not smooth. Is there a
    setting that I am missing? Has anyone else run into this issue?
    Thanks!

    I'm going to stick my beak in here and suggest that the
    timeline editor function (I'm assuming Cap 4) has a problem. What
    pbissaillon is trying to do is exactly what made me make my first
    post to this forum. Our issue came about when we tried to grab the
    playhead and drag it over audio to try and find the synch point for
    highlight boxes, and on the third or 4th occasion the screen would
    whiteout leaving only the highlight boxes on screen and Cap would
    become unresponsive. But before this happened we could see that the
    playhead would slow, judder or even stop if it came across a
    timestrip relating to a highlight box in the timeline. We'd then
    shutdown the project and if we tried to reload would be rewarded
    (randomly) with a message "QuizEdit.dll not present (previous
    response =8)". [We had no quiz slides in project so this was odd].
    The only way out was to close Cap wait till the buffers were
    flushed and then reload Cap for a retry - this naturally was a real
    pain.
    However, one other posting about audio difficulties has led
    Adobe to suggest a workaround consisting of re-registering the
    nsaudio dll. When we've got a moment I'm going to create a
    one-slide project to replicate the problem and try hand
    re-registering both QuizEdit and nsaudio and see where we go. In
    the meantime if Rick you would kindly rehighlight the bug link I
    will send a test project to Adobe.
    Sorry to be a bit wordy,
    Regards,
    Henry

  • Red Timeline box. Not render line entire timeline box turns red

    I ran into an issue on Premiere Pro cs3 after updating my mac to Mountain Lion. No issues until update. The entire timeline box turns red when I insert a video. Not the render line but the entire box turns completely red. anyone have any ideas?
    I realize I need to update, I am a college student, but I do freelance for a nonprofit so I need this up and running as fast as I can.

  • Red Bar Across TIFF in Timeline Warning

    Pardon if this has been discussed (red timeline seems to be in almost every post to search)...
    I made about 12 flattened .tif files in Photoshop CS2, 720x540.
    No LZW.
    About four of the TIFFs have a red bar on their icon clips in the Timeline.
    The files preview fine and appear good in FCP 5.04.
    I can't read the warning even if zoomed in on the Timeline at 100% frames.
    I have deleted all all Render files and re rendered.
    I have deleted the files from the Timeline and Browser and re introduced them.
    I still can't get rid of the warning.
    IS THIS A BUG or am I missing something?

    What Andy said - it is only a display issue, BTW - nothing to worry about...

  • Choppy playback, when render line showing gray (niether green or red).

    Hello,
    Initially the render line shows red and gray in some parts. When I render the movie the red sections do turn green, but the gray portions remain gray. Playback is fine while in the green areas, but stalls and becomes extremely choppy when passing over the gray areas (I've posted a phicture to help make my explaination a little clearer). Does anyone know a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    Nadine.

    Vid_2011
    What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    Without further information, there is nothing to fix. See explanation to follow.
    The area of the Timeline over which the green line appears tells me that you
    (a) edited original video which presented with no color line and the edit forced the red line which you "rendered" to green.
    (b) Or, you had content that imported originally to present with the red line over the content and you rendered to green.
    A video properties and project preset mismatch.
    What are the properties of the Timeline over which your "gray" no colored line situation exists? At face value, they could be imported media that imported with no colored line over their contents, and you have not edited yet. Please detail the situation so we know the real situation.
    Just in case recap....
    no colored line over Timeline content (only seen on first drag before edit of content) when native format and project preset is set to match the properties of the source media. The program is telling you that you have the best possible preview. So, no rendering is needed or possible. If you edit this type, the indicator line turns red and rendering/edits/rendering thereafter involve only red green changes, no more no colored line.
    green line over Timeline...you have the best possible preview, no rendering is needed or possible.
    in versions earlier than 11, red line indicates need for Timeline rendering to get the best possible preview. After the Timeline rendering, the red line turns green with all the implications stated above.
    In versions 11 and 12, the red Timeline render indicator is no longer and now is an orange line.
    Please review and consider and please get back to us with more details as to what is in the tracks below the render indicator lines.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere CS6 - keyframed scaling is not working with RED footage when Time Remapping is used

    Hello,
    My system is: Win7, Premiere CS6 (6.0.5), 12GB RAM, etc...
    My project settings:  I'm using 1080p RED timeline.
    Steps:
    Using 4K RED footage with "Scale to frame size" disabled after placing the clip on timeline.
    Under effects time remapping is set to 50%.
    Motion->Scale is keyframed from 50% to 100% to achieve zoom in effect while preserving image quality.
    Clip stays at 50% Scale ignoring the keyframes.
    Problem is present during preview and in the exported file. I tried with CUDA enabled and disabled and problem persists.
    If I turn off Time Remapping, then the clip responds to scaling keyframes.
    Is there any workouround or can this bug be fixed?
    Thanks!

    Thanks.
    This seems to work but I had to apply TR to the nested sequence and scaling to the original clip.
    Otherwise scaling operations are messed up.
    This situation reminds me of after effects and effects processing order.

  • Timeline go to timeline position using time parameter

    Good day.
    I have a timeline with two frames. I want to type time (100ms, 2000ms, e.t.c) and see the condition of timeline at specified time.
    But I don't know waht to do. I've tried to google and explore JavaFX API, but I din't get any bright ideas. Can you suggest me, please, where to dig?
    And in general, does this task have solution?
    This is my code:
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.shape.Rectangle;
    import javafx.scene.paint.Color;
    import javafx.animation.Timeline;
    import javafx.animation.Interpolator;
    import javafx.ext.swing.SwingTextField;
    import javafx.ext.swing.SwingButton;
    import javafx.scene.input.MouseEvent;
    import javafx.scene.layout.HBox;
    //input time in ms and teport to specified timeline position
    var controlText: SwingTextField = SwingTextField{

  • Red Rocket and Premiere Pro CS6

    So what I want to know is what exactly does the Red Rocket add to Premiere Pro CS6? I have one installed in my Mac Pro and have found similiar performance with it off and on in terms of playback and rendering. I found this post from Adobe employee Will Renczes in another thread:
    To the OP:  I think you need to unravel the complexity.  You should also be able to get 4K RED files playing back @ 1/4 res without a Rocket - the only thing the Rocket brings to the table is realtime debayering @ full res.  There's plenty of people editing 4K footage on macbooks @ 1/4 res...
    Is that really the only advantage to this $5000 card in Premiere? I won't see any increase in performance unless the playback resolution is set to full? I just tried a test and my computer definately lags playing it back in full res without the RR, but it still stutters a bit even with the RR activated. I guess I wish it helped the playback at lower resolutions, as well as during the export process.
    Do any other Adobe CS6 apps make use of it better (Speedgrade perhaps)? If this card really isn't doing all that much, might just try to sell it. Darn you Adobe for being able to edit RED footage without a crazy expensive card!
    -sam

    Look at the preview resolution for your Red Timeline in Adobe. If you want to play 4K and 5K out to a monitoring solution able to handle that via Redcine-X then the Red Rocket is the way to go right now. If your transcoding red files constantly via Redcine-X then it also speeds that up. This is the case atleast till you start seeing HDMi 1.4 monitors that support 4K res.

  • Premier Pro CC and Media Encoder crashing on long file export.

    Please forgive the length of this inquiry. But it is complicated and has a lot of variables.
    I have an hour long mixed format timeline both Red 3K footage and Black Magic ProRes 1080P footage that I want to make a DVD from and it takes forever and crashes half way through. I have tried doing it every way possible and the only way I was able to get even a partial export was using the "MPEG 2 DVD" export option in Premier CC. It goes fast at first telling me it will take about 2 hours but even though it starts quickly doing about 15 fps it slows down to less than 1 fps and finally just stops and crashes my Cuda Core enabled Macbook Pro Laptop.
    I really don't know who to ask about this since there are so many different variables. I never had a problem like this on my MBP with PP6 on a 4K timeline exporting to DVD or Blue Ray or to H-264 or Even Prores. But I wasn't mixing formats either. But on this project the first 20-30 minutes of footage goes through fine in a couple of hours but something seems to be bogging down the system on longer projects. My work around was to break the project up into multiple exports and combining them on the DVD timeline but I can't do this on every project. I thought maybe it was a corrupted clip somewhere in the timeline but when I broke the timeline up into several parts I had no problems.
    I did notice a dramatic variance in the time it took to export footage based on the sequence settings. A one minute timeline comprised Red 3K footage and ProRes 1080P footage Here are some sample export results:
    From a Red raw 3K timeline 2880x1620  with 1080P Prores footage upscaled 150%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format    1:48 Minutes ***
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ  1080P                         22 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                    22 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                22 Minutes
    From a 1080P timeline Prores footage at 100%  (Red footage downscaled to 67%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format                         13 Minutes
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ 1080P                             13 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                                                             14 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                            14 Minutes
    Since I am going to DVD,  I chose the fastest option  Red to m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format which only took 1:48 per minute. Why? I have no idea. Maybe someone here knows the answer. But again these numbers are for a ONE MINUTE clip when I tried to convert the whole hour timeline to  the 720x480.m2v DVD File the Red timeline froze my computer after several hours even though I had set sleep mode to “Never” and turned the display off manually and I had to convert it in multiple chunks. In 20-30 minute chunks it did go fast about 1:48 per minute like the test indicated. But I would like to be able to convert the whole hour and not to have to try to stitch the clips together in my DVD authoring program.
    I don’t want to have to avoid using multiple formats on the same timeline or waste time transcoding everything to the same format.
    Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why the computer is crashing or bogging down in long exports and what timeline settings I should be using?
    I have plenty of room on my Scratch Disk and 8 Gig of RAM and according to my Activity Monitor during the export process  have about 800 Meg of System Memory during export but the CPU Usage is 98% and in my Activity Monitor I see under “Process Name” ImporterRedServer flashing up at the top of the list about every second during export.
    Why .720x480 mpeg DVD setting is so much faster than all the other export codecs?
    And if there are any other settings I can use to get higher speed exports in HD? 14x1 seems a little slow especially since every time it crashes I have to start over.

    Hi,
    Since a long time I did not encounter the crash of Media encoder with
    long file export.
    But I take care of a lot of details before the export :
    - clean up Media cache and Media Cache Files within PP CS6 and/or CC,
    - delete all render files with Preview Files,
    - rendering of sequences until the rendering is completed,
    - PP CS6 and/or Pp CC opened during export to AME and/or Encore CS6,
    I guessed to leave Adobe but this company remains the last with a
    serious authoring software (Encore CS 6).
    I tested :
    - Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, both are very good software but
    no really authoring software for these video editing softs.
    Th only way is to "flood" Adobe with "bug reports" and "wish forms"
    which are not very easy to use.
    And also to call the Adobe support day by day until they send they
    escalate the bug.

  • Premiere cc. too many problems

    Im opening a cs6 dynamic link.

    4. in cs6 I could run a red timeline in realtime at 1/4, now it stutters and locks up on the same file.
    5. cs6 ran superfast with very few issues, what am I doing wrong?
    Ive had nothing but problems and 0 joy so far from premire cc
    Any Suggestions?

    My "L" is for "Lawrence".
    It appears that exporting through the AME (which I seldom do) is the same speed in CC. I have seen reports that it wasn't. However, they seem to be false.
    In CC I just exported a 34 second timeline to my usual YouTube settings in 39 seconds. I tried the exact same timeline in CS6 and came out exactly the same within statistical limits. (Human response time on the stopwatch caused a half second difference in CC's favor the first time and about the same in the other direction the second time I did the comparison.)
    By the way, did you remember to set up CC to use hardware acceleration? I had to go back in and apply the workaround (delete the cuda card file) and I have a very popular card (GTX670). You would think they would get off their tails and test that one.

  • FCP to PP questions: part 2

    4) tttt in FCP lets me select everything behind where I click. is this available in PP? All I can find is clicking t gives me the option to select everything on a specific track but not everything. I like selecting everything if i want to move it all along the timeline to give me some space to do stuff in.
    5)  In FCP Backspace deletes a highlighted clip but leaves the timeline as it is. Delete deletes a highlighted clip and closes the gap left by the removal of the clip.
    In PP I can only use backspace which deletes the clip and leaves a gap. Is there a way to do the FCP version of Delete so I delete a clip and the gap left automatically goes? Or is this another feature request?
    6) In FCP I can place little icons in different windows of the app, eg: new sequence, freeze frame, +3db, Render, etc. which one clicks on and they work.
    Do these icons exist in PP?

    See the part 1 thread...basically, DEL (or BACKSPACE) removes the selected clip(s) whereas SHIFT+DEL (or SHIFT+BACKSPACE...??) will ripple delete, removing the clips and leaving no gap.

    I'm not really sure what you're asking about here, but it doesn't sound like anything you'd do in Premier Pro. However, there are shortcuts you can use for that stuff (new sequence is CTRL+N, render previews is ENTER for red timeline areas or SHIFT+ENTER to force render yellow previews). Read up in the help file a bit to see the shortcut default assignments, and then peruse the keyboard shortcut editor to see which functions can be assigned a shortcut.

    I upgraded my custom skinnable control (as shown in [Controls+Skins / CSS - Do Not Scale (BUG)|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5363533] in a compact form). I had some trouble, but with a little help from the MediaBox sample, I finally had something working.
    The custom control is useless and ugly, but it does its work in testing the making of custom controls! :-)
    Here is the code:

  • Missing render file/project will not render

    I'm new to using FCE - just got my iMac with FCE pre-installed a few weeks ago - and have run into a big problem with current project. When I open the program, it tells me one render file is offline and I can reconnect or continue. I have no idea where the file could possibly have gone, so I select 'continue'. But now the project will not render. I have four sequences open in the project file, and have tried everything - locking and unlocking tracks, selecting various combinations of render both, render all, render selection, rendering only audio or video, etc. All the appropriate render selections are checked in every option. But still, the project won't render any of the sequences; the render box comes up for a split second and goes away faster than the eye can follow. I've tried setting the scratch disk; that didn't help. I tried saving the project, closing and opening the project, etc. Nothing helps. It just won't render. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem?

    When I say it won't render, I literally mean nothing happens when I hit the render command. I see the red timeline render bars. However, I see them only when I go to export the video as something else - a mov, dv stream, etc. In the project while working, there's nothing indicating render is required.
    To try and solve this problem of the missing audio clip, I opened a new project and imported the .mov file I was working with initially, which theoretically should have all its parts intact. I made the necessary modifications to the file (essentially starting all over) and then attempted to render. It still won't render. Nothing happens at all when I click any of the render options, even after I've made modifications to the video that would clearly require render - changing the aspect ratio and applying a widescreen video filter. So the program should recognize the changes and render, but nothing happens, whether I choose render from the menu or hit the keyboard shortcut.
    I'm a little hesitant to try scrapping the preferences as suggested above, but I am totally perplexed.

  • Different Library All over the place - How to combine

    Ok, I was a Iphoto user for a very long time and then I started experiementing with Lightroom, Aperture and the I came back to use Iphoto. After I bought a DSLR, I decide to use a Pro app and I bought aperture also since my Imac started to running slow for the lack of HD space, I started to use an external hard drive. After using aperture for almost 6 month, today I was looking ito my library and I saw on my MAC picture folder an aperture library. Then I went into aperure preference and I saw that on library path the local HD was there. So now I have a Local Aperture library, another Aperture library on the external HD and an Iphoto library on my external HD. What I want is one aperure library on my External HD. What is the best way to that wihtout having duplicate. Thanks

     Is there anyway to make the zoom zoom into the exact time location that the red timeline playhead is?
    the Lock Playhead button needs to be on (though zoom can still be a little fussy).
    if it's not on, though, all you have to do is click it to turn it on and the timeline will scroll to where the playhead is (or if it's being fussy, and the Lock button IS on, toggle it and again the timeline will scroll to the playhead's location)
    Excellent work Hang Time! Nice work around. The "Toggle again" makes it work, even if its a little clumsy to have to press it twice.
    Do you work for Apple by the way as you knowledge of Gargeband is quiet phenomenal?

  • Duplicating a Sequence renames all clips

    All of a sudden, after months of stable operations, when I duplicate a sequence, all the clips in the timeline get their names changed to the name of the new sequence. Every time I rename the sequence, the clips get renamed again to match the sequence name.
    Also, Find Frame (f) and shift-f don't work. Shift-f highlights the new sequence in the Bin.
    These don't fix it:
    trashing prefs
    relaunching the app
    rebooting the computer
    repairing permissions
    running Disk Warrior
    I suppose re-installing the app is next, but a friend just told me that he got the same thing, and reinstalling didn't fix it for him.
    Any ideas?

    I found a half-*** workaround: Create new sequence. Copy all from old sequence. Paste into new sequence. This solved the problem of clip renaming on V2, but not V1 .
    Also, when I changed the name from Untitled Sequence to >whatever<, it stealthily changed it's name - several minutes later - to the same as the original sequence that the footage was copied from.
    I changed the name again, which stuck for a few minutes, but then later, it changed it's name back to the original sequence again!
    This is probably the oddest bug I've yet encountered in FCP. I opened other projects, and am not getting the same behavior. So, I'm concluding this has something to do with the footage, or a combination of sequence settings.
    In this case all the footage was ripped (legally) using MPEGStreamclip from DVDs to ProResHQ, and put into a 720x480 Sequence in FCP using the ProResHQ compressor.
    Another curiosity is that I get the red timeline bar using Safe RT which should not be the case, since the footage codec matches the sequence settings.
