Redirect www to non-www https.

I am trying to redirect all traffic from http/https www to https only non-www. I have got http to https setup using the following on apache 2.4:RewriteCond %{HTTPS} offRewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !httpsRewriteRule ^(.)$ https://%{HTTPHOST}%{REQUESTURI} [L,R=301]RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTPHOST}%{REQUESTURI}It also needs to work inside of the virtual hosts conf file and not .htaccess as my cms could overwrite the .htaccess on upgrades. I want to add www redirect as my site may have users that are used to typing www. Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Hello Everyone. My old web site needed a redirect to a "non www version" because of duplicate content. Is the same true for Muse site?

I made a website from Muse and want to launch it.
Question1)Will there be a www version and a non www version like on my current web page built in DW?
I never launched 2 websites. It just needed a "301 redirect" because when I ran a check on my website it said my page ranking was being lowered because there are two versions of my web site on line.

301 redirect was created.
The site is hosted on Godaddy and after 1 or 2 calls I was able to make the redirect. They made it pretty easy.
However I am still not sure if its better to redirect a www. to a non www, or a non www to a www.version of your site.
As long as there is a redirect, the content is not duplicated. That is the main thing I was trying to accomplish.

Well... Jennifer's answer is correct for practical purposes. But technically, http is the protocol which typically uses port 80 (but in many instances might not).
Also, www is Cisco's shorthand for use in things like ASA access list entries but it's really neither http nor port 80 by itself.
Likewise https is the secure implementation of http which commonly uses port 443.

Mac RDP Client (v8.0.10 on 10.10.1): HTTPEndPointException: 4, The non-proxy http connection failed to connect with the message: 404 Not Found

My office is setting up a new gateway server. I can connect to the old one just fine, but the new one is not allowing me to connect. I can connect from my Windows VM, but not my Mac Client.

From the error and other description it seems that there is some misconfiguration with setup. You need to provide the FQDN name of the server as might server name is not resolving its name properly and so facing issue. As seems from below details:

Please check the DNS record, check certificate whether it match FQDN name of the server with certificate name, also try to check to connect with IP address and see what result you can find.

10.6.2 Mail Server turn on SSL, mailman still points to non ssl (http)

Running osx 10.6.2 server on an x-serve dual quad core intel processors.
Services running:
DNS
MAIL
OD
Web
Mail server is on DMZ zone of our firewall.
I became a little paranoid after original configuration of this server, and enabled SSL for my web services by going to Web in server admin and then "sites" then tab "security" and checked off "enable secure socket layer (SSL)"
SSL is working fine for me and my employees. When trying to respond to a Moderator request for mailman, the moderator e-mails send me links that point to http: address's. I can get around this by inserting a "s" into the copied ad pasted address, however when it comes to the point of "submit data" button on moderator interface after as example saying i want to reject an email, I am redirected to a non https site and never goes anywhere. I called Apple support and was told that I would have to pay them to fix this even though I have an extended warranty.
Does anybody know how I can resolve this?

I think I see the problem: softpac2000 assumed you were serving both secure and insecure versions of your site, so all that was needed was a redirect from the /mailman/ section of the insecure site to its equivalent on the sercure site. From your description above, you're only serving over SSL -- no insecure version of the site, so nothing to redirect from. Here's a modified version of his instructions that'll create an insecure version of the site, that just redirects to the same page on the secure version:
1. Open Server Admin
2. Click on the Web Service on the left pane
3. Click on Sites icon on the top right pane
(At this point, you should see only one site listed, with a port number of 443; if this is not correct, I've misunderstood your setup and you should not follow the rest of these instructions.)
4. Click the "+" button under the site list to add a new virtual site
5. Set the new site's hostname and IP Address to match the old (secure) site, but leave the Port number at 80
6. Put something descriptive in the Host Description field
7. Click on the Aliases tab on the bottom right pane
8. Under URL Aliases and Redirects, delete all of the existing aliases by selecting them (one at a time), then clicking "-" underneath
9. Under URL Aliases and Redirects click on the + sign
10. Select "RedirectMatch" on the Type drop down menu
11. Type "(.*)$" without the quotes on the Pattern text box
12. Type "https://yourdomain.com$1" on the Path text box. Don't forget to replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name
13. Click on Save button on the bottom right

No redirection to different url upon http connections limit exceeded

As of Standalone OC4j 10.1.2, if you want messages to be redirected to a different URL when the maximum connections limit is reached, you would include the HTTP redirect URL to max-http-connections tag inside server.xml.

I have a standalone OC4j 10.1.3, and would like to be able to redirect to different URL when maximum connections limit is reached but the above max-http-connections does not work and I am not redirected to different URL when maximum connectionns limit is reached. I read user guide of OC4j 10.1.3 and there is no mentioning of max-http-connections at all. In there, they talk about limiting concurrency via http thread pool but there is no discussion as to the mechanism of redirecting users to a different URL where I can display a user friendly message to say "Server is busy, please try again later..." instead of browser display a message "Page cannot be displayed"..

Mozilla to phase out non-secure HTTP

Mozilla has announced its intent to phase out all use of "standard" HTTP, replacing it by the (more-)secure HTTPS. This involves:
Setting a date after which all "new" features will be available only to secure websites
Gradually phasing out access to browser features for non-secure websites, especially features that pose risks to users’ security and privacy....
The second element of the plan will need to be driven by trade-offs between security and web compatibility. Removing features from the non-secure web will likely cause some sites to break.

Thank you, thank you, thank you FredMcD!! It was my AVAST anti-virus software. I had the "Web Shield" turned on, so all I did was turn it OFF, so now I can browse on the Internet on any website. When you first install Avast anti-virus, the Web Shield by default is turned on. This really should be turned off as not to freak out new users, especially by those that are not computer savvy. Non-standard HTTP methods in Servlet 2.4

Hi,
I have application Servlet 2.3 compatible and I want to migrate it to the Servlet 2.4 specification, but I faced a problem with non-standard HTTP-methods that my application uses (WebDAV HTTP methods).
In the web-app_2_4.xsd there are only seven valid HTTP methods and my xml editor cannot validate web.xml because of the non-standard HTTP methods.
Can someone help me to solve this issue?

if you have an empty <http-method> element then all methods are constrained. Does this help?

Firefox 32.0.1 on OSX 10.9.4 breaks non-EV https. I get "sec_error_ocsp_server_error". FF version 32 was good.

When connecting to to a non-ev https site, I receive an OCSP error specified above. The https://support.mozilla.org site uses extended validation and I can get to it without a problem. The previous version of FF worked fine - no OCSP errors for non-ev sites.

I was able to solve my own problem.
Click on Firefox -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Certificates -> View Certs.->
then delete the certs and try again. This time it worked.

Connection to server broken: non-chunked HTTP read lost connection

A java applet popped this up on my screen, no idea where to look on my machine - it's only the second time its happened in many weeks but I would like to be able to interact with the cause.
Java was installed from Sun's download in June 2006 on Windows Adv. Server. MS auto update and defender currently active.

some program is trying to get some update from its server and so it is trying to connect to its server but either you don't have internet connection or it can have low speed, because of this reason some program show this error "Connection to server broken: non-chunked HTTP read lost connection". so you have to stop the scheduling of that program.

Use ACE to redirect or insert a WWW in a client request

I am using ACE 4710s running 4.1 to load balance web traffic across our web server farms. Redirection is configured to redirect http to https. There is a new requirement to redirect a request that does not include the "www" in the URL to include the "www". In other words, if a client merely types "mytesturl.com/test1" the ACE is to redirect or rewrite and insert the www so the request becomes"www.mytesturl.com/test1". I am searching through the documentation, but thought I would pick the collective brains of the community at the same time to see who can come up with the correct answer first. Below is a sample of the working config.

Non www website not forwarding

Okay, I just realized I've got a problem and don't know exactly how to fix it.
I've got a website, let's say http://www.sample.com, which is working fine.
But if i type in http://sample.com, Chrome (at least so far only Chrome) says that it can't find http://sample.com.
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?
FYI: I'm using the latest versions of Mavericks OSX and Server.app.

See if Chrome is grumbling about HTTP or HTTPS, and — if it wants HTTPS — that the matching HTTPS site exists.

OHS VirtualHost only SSL - redirect to equivalent of IIS HTTP Error 403.4 - Forbidden: SSL is required to view this resource

I'm completely new to OHS and have been asked to ensure that a URL that goes to OHS should only be accessible on HTTPS, if accessed by HTTP it should go to the equivalent of IISs
HTTP Error 403.4 - Forbidden: SSL is required to view this resource.
As OHS is the frontend to our SOA installation we have specific files under /moduleconf/ for the virtualhosts, an example of one is below.
Can anyone give me any clues/best practice to only allow this VirtualHost to be allowed on HTTPS/SSL and to not redirect non SSL to SSL but to an error page like the equivalent mentioned above.

That gives me a certificate error because the server doesn't send an intermediate certificate that chains to a build-in root certificate.

"www" or no "www"

So I've seen answers to this question that guide you through Godaddy but I registered my domain name through iPower and they don't use this CNAME reference. And when redirecting my domain name I don't have the option to add "www" in front of it on iPower's site.
So the question is: How can I view my personal domain both with "www" and with out it? As of now I can only use: mydomain.com and not www.mydomain.com. When I use the latter I get a message “POSIX error: Permission denied” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:13) and the page is not located.

Thanks for replying on the other discussion chain as well.
They don't seem to know what CNAME is. It currently is under Web Redirect but it doesn't allow one to add the "www". Their response was "hum, that's weird". They did make some alteration and I'll just wait a bit to see if it works. If not, I'll just take you advice and move it to godaddy.
