Reducing CPU usage of Flash animation

Hello!
I have a simple Flash animation - fading in and out different
images. I have done it with an Actionscript (changing alpha value).
That worked ok only on new processors - on all others it eats 100%
CPU. I then tried to do it with timeline (motion tween between 2
alpha values of picture). Now it is considerably better, but on
CPUs lower than 2 GHz it still eats 100% CPU. Size of animation is
940x160. How can I do this fading correctly so that CPU will not
have to do so much calculations?? Please help me!

sent too soon - TINT to the solid white background - always
avoid alpha whenever possible as flash
will have to calculate the difference in colors throughout
the tween - Tinting is far more processor
friendly.

  • Reduce CPU Usage when Runnig Telnet on Win2000

Does any one knows how to reduce CPU usage when iam running my telnet developed using java classes.Every time when i start Telnet CPU usage is shooting to 100%.Can any one help to me solve my problem.

You are probably doing some kind of loop that is eating all the CPU idle time. You could reduce your use of the CPU by calling Thread.yield() when you do not need to do anything for a bit, or even better, Thread.sleep(...) to pause your program for a specified number of milliseconds.
    Hope this helps some.

  • Reduce CPU usage with RTMFT video chatting

    Hi,
We are using the FMS4 for 1-1 real time video chatting. it is fine but the CPU usage are very high.
(not P2P but use UDP based RTMFP) currently connection to server as " rtmfp://1.2.3.4:80/live"
we use the :80 I guess it helps to deal with the firewall with HTTP tunneling? (seems if it is true, it will this degrade performance?)
with 320*240; it is using 30~50 % CPU;  with 480*360: 40-60% CPU at the clients.  so high... decent client machine: Intel i5 650. Quad 3.3Ghz  8G RAM. win7 64
Any idea on reducing cpu usage?

RTMFP is a UDP-based protocol and does not currently tunnel over HTTP.  when you specify port 80 with RTMFP, you're using UDP port 80, not TCP port 80.  also, that port 80 is the fmsedge port; you will be redirected to a different port (19350+ by default) for the true client-server connection.
RTMFP has significantly higher overhead than RTMP for two main reasons: 1) RTMFP is a complete network transport protocol of similar complexity to TCP, but implemented entirely in user space instead of in the operating system kernel, so every packet sent on the network requires special processing and at least one context switch to kernel mode for transmission or reception; 2) every byte of every packet in RTMFP is encrypted with AES-128-CBC, a non-trivial cipher requiring a not-insubstantial amount of CPU.  there is no unencrypted form of RTMFP.

  • Flash animation - reducing CPU usage

I made a Flash animation with Actionscript (changing alpha
value with timer etc. etc.). But on slower PCs it eats pretty much
CPU unfortunately. Is it possible to somehow convert this movie
into some series of images or something? Or to somehow "capture"
movie into barebone movie with no graphic calculations to make it
    fast on slow PCs?
    Thank you for advices!

How can I convert scripted animation to some sort of timeline
animation which don't require so much CPU calculations?

  • High CPU Usage with Flash Player 11

I am not sure what the problem is but ever since I had those issues I went back to flash archive and installed a previous version that did not come with the flash plug in and I never had any problem with it since I am currently using the Adobe flash version 10 plug in with an adobe flash player active X. and I find out it was the new flash plug in that is the issue it suck all your ram. If you get some people who is having the same issues where flash player is duplicating and eating all their ram then ask them to try the version 10 plug in with the flash 11 active x it will work fine. I tried to run the version 10 flash as a complete set but some dynamic site that plays videos require a later version of flash active x to work and will be asking for an update however by keeping the flash 10 plug in there won't be any other issues. Adobe need to find out what is wrong with the new flash plug in and run a comparison with the flash 10 plug in. I hope this will help some user to get over the issues that made my online experience a nightmare for a while too.

The best way to get a resolution is to address your individual issue.  Your complaint is that RAM usage is high, which is unrelated to the thread from the guy on Mac that was seeing High CPU usage on high definition video.
In order to fix the issue that you're describing, we need to be able to reproduce it.  Please provide the information below, and the results of the basic troubleshooting steps as you work through them.  This will help us narrow down the root-cause, and allow us to find comparable hardware in our compatibility lab to reproduce the issue with.
    Basic Troubleshooting Info
To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    - Operating system
    - Browser
    - Flash Player version - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
    - Antivirus/Anti-Malware software and versions
The first step is to work through the video troubleshooting guide for your operating system, here:
    - Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html
    - Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.htm
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    - Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Windows_users
    - Mac - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Mac_OS_users
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify this by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the menu.
    - HTML5 video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2w&html5=True
    - Non-HTML5 video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2we

  • How can i reduce CPU usage while playing video?

    Hi,
I have recently finished and then published a  project to my desktop which is a video jukebox application. The  application plays music videos in a large popup window upon a button  click. The problem i have is that when the video is not playing the CPU  usage on my windows machine runs at about 15% on average, however once  the video is playing in the popup the CPU usage jumps to almost 90-100%.
I  have seen some of the developements introduced in Flash 10.2 in regard  to Stage Video and was wondering if this could maybe fix my problem. At  present my application is running on AIR 1.5 with Flash Player 9. If I  simply install the latest versions of AIR and Flash Player and try  running my published project again will this be enough to improve the  video performance? Or do I need to change the settings of my project  within Flex Builder so that it uses the latest version Flash?
    Any advise would be great.
    Thanks
    Adam

StageVideo is still not available for AIR and until then it appears nothing can be done about this problem.

  • CPU usage on Flash Builder 4

    Dear all,
since we use Flash Builder 4 final release, we observe a very high CPU usage (Vista or windows 7 same behavior. Configs with 4GB or 8GB doesn't change anything ), after 10 to 20 minutes of usage, that suddenly goes to 60-80% for eclipse*32 process. Heap memory fix in eclipse.ini doesn't change anything, even if this problem seems to occur when Eclipse*32 process is above 500MB.
Does anyone observed this ? What can we do ? Starting and relaunching Eclipse is the only way to get around for now.
    Regards,
    Cédric

    Sameer,
Thank you very much for interesting on that issue, that it is really annoying on the day to day development work, as we have to quit eclipse with FB an average of 3 times a day either because it is becoming extremely slow, or because we have an OutOfMemory popup at some point.
It is quite difficult to define what exactly trigger this over CPU usage. However, it seems that it is mainly debugging stage that it is the cause of this, as we just code and build without launching the app, the phenomenon occurs much later.
What we can also observe is that it seems to be linked to memory consumption of eclipse process, as when we exceed a rough 300-400 MB in Windows Taks List generally we also have this 50-70% CPU usage, and only quitting Eclipse solves the issue. But cannot ensure that it is always the case, I mean we can have the CPU usage increase sometimes with 800 MB and sometimes with only 300MB windows memory consumption.
Note then that increasing eclipse memory parameters in eclipse.ini doesn't change anything to this issue, maybe slightly delaying it a little bit, but that's all.
Regarding your other questions : we have many projects in the workspace, but of course we try to avoid having several opened at the same time, because search, refactoring, content assist are much longer if you have many projects opened. We can also say that this phenomenon occurs only with the main project, which is quite big (~300 classes, 40K-50K lines of code).
Unfortunately I cannot share the project as it our main asset and strictly confidential. But what I can say to you, and we think it might be a important point to check, is that project is a multi windowed AIR 2.0 project massively using Flash GoogleMap API, and RemoteObject services with the GraniteDS client server framework. We have observed another issue, but well documented is that memory consumption of the application being running under adl is growing very quickly if we display lot of objects on google maps (400MB-800MB typical memory footprint). But please note that when application is stopped and adl.exe terminates, this memory is freed, our problem here is the eclipse CPU usage process only.

    Cédric

  • [help] high cpu usage with flash (Hello adobe developer)

Running youtube or facebook games, here's what I found. CPU usage rises to 90-100% or 90-100 % of a core.
Tested in XP32/Win7 64. Clean setups. Tested with Flash 9, 10, 10.1 rc's. Used uninstallers, reinstalled and so on. Googled on this, read many threads, such as granting permission on several files. Tested with IE, Firefox, Chrome. SAME stuff. Tested on an e8400 with P35 chipset, i3 530 with P55 chipset, e7400 with nvidia ion chipset, tested with 7[3|6]00gt's, gts 250.. So yes, I've tried a lot of things. And many different drivers too. I am now only pointing fingers at flash.
PC gets sluggish, laptops run out of battery fast. I can usually fix a lot of technicals issues on my own, but I'm TOTALLY stuck here. I should also add that, cpu usage rises only when there is motion. I can watch an .avi movie or play some 3D game, and they won't suck the cpu totally. I can remember in the past, flash won't do this. Flash won't drag the system down. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong.
Can an Adobe dev comment please?

I find it strangely odd that you've never seen this phenomenon, but at least you must have heard of it. Google flash high cpu usage. Facebook games flash lag. Or something alike. Mind moving my thread there? So there won't be a dupe thread.
I posted a similar thread in mozilla forums to see what they have to see, since i notice lag is more apparent in firefox than in ie, although both hog up cpu.
As you can see, I'm not alone.
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1913819
My installation _of_ what? Let's see, I tried to replicate this in the most bare environment. With nothing else installed, and  default Windows 7 drivers, I installed flash from the web, plugin only first, then activex, did the testing, same stuff. Installed OLD 183 drivers, tested with 197 drivers, then 256 beta drivers. Same deal.

  • How to reduce CPU usage when working in Logic Pro and Kontakt5

    Hello All,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 2.0 GHZ. My main acitivity is making music with my macbook pro. I am using Logic Pro 9 in combination with Kontakt 5.
I want to get some suggestions in the setup so I can reduce the usage of the CPU. By the way I have upgraded my system with a SSD 256GB , 16GB RAM and have removed the optical drive and installed the the previous factory set HD in the optical bay. I have placed the samples of the Kontakt 5 in the HD so I have enough space on my SSD to run the progrmas fast and smooth !
If possible give your advise on an optimum setup such as reachanaling the sounds through BUS to AUX channels and other methods in order to reduce the CPU usage. You may even post some good links where I can find more info.
    Thanks in advance

    So Center of Pan,
If you were to run something like Omnipshere on an active SI track do you get anywhere near the "1 core CPU" spike I'm getting on my Late 2011 TOTR MBP?
I still dont really get why L9 on a new MBP peforms worse than eg your PC.
Older versions of Logic (ie: 5.5) don't see individual cores, there is one disk meter and one CPU meter. In some ways it's a more efficient system. This is running on WinXP which happens to be a very good system for audio. Consider this, XP can be installed and take up only half a gig of disk space and do 90% of what most operating systems can do today.
I do see single core spikes on my single processor quad core Mac Pro.  There's no way to get around a processor intensive plugin on a single track. A channel strip is tied to a single process (core). I stopped upgrading at 10.6.8 and Logic 9.1.3, because it works. I still get the occasional single core use even with multiple plugs and tracks but I can usually break the logjam by quickly starting and stopping Logic 2 or 3 times.
I will not upgrade Mac hardware or software unless the next version of Logic is outstanding, I'm fine where I'm at for the next year or two. I enjoy recording performers more than anything else so al I really need is a good sounding, solid system.

  • Incredibly high CPU usage with Flash plugin

    Hi all,
I'm using Safari 4.0.3 with the last Flash Plugin version (10.0.32.18) that I just uninstalled and then reinstalled, and I got an incredibly high cpu usage while viewing an Youtube video.
Here is a screenshot of Activity monitor that shows you the percentage.
    http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7186/schermata20091106a13590.png
Sometimes the Safari process reach even 50% while the FlashPlugin one runs at 110%-120%.
Is that normal? With other browsers like Camino or Firefox, the CPU usage for the same video drops to 50%-60% max.
    Thank you,

  • High CPU usage on Flash Builder 4.5

    Hi
I’s experiencing serious high CUP usage when working with Flash Builder 4.5.
It happens when I start editing a relatively large .as file (~700 lines of code). Utilization then goes up to 50% and stays in this condition forever. This makes editing and debugging impossible – everything works very slowly including my computer.  Once you close the edited file (which is the only file in editor), utilization is back to normal.
    Some more details:
I have two projects in my workspace. One is closed. I cannot share the project.
    Flex SDK 4.5.1 (upgraded lately)
Working on Windows XP Professional SP3.  4GB RAM.
    Workspace-log is attached
    I tried the following
Reinstalling Flash Builder – no change
Uninstall SVN subclipe version that I installed as described here - http://www.flashmagazine.com/tutorials/detail/setting_up_subversion_with_adobe_flash_build er_4/ - no change
Network monitor is disabled (this is a standard version of FB)
Quit FB, open it and just load the .as file without debugging or launching any application – same problem.
Edit FlashBuilder.ini and eclipse.ini and change the values to -Xms512m -Xmx768m – same problem
Reinstalled FB for the second time and just loaded the same files as before – same issue.
Needless to say it is very problematic as I’m disabled from working for several days already.
    Need your prompt support.
    Thanks, Charlie

    Hi
I installed an earlier version of FB 4.5 without help. I also tried new work space, new project sources etc - no help.
I suspect it has to do with some collision with internal resources.
    Questions to the Adobe team
    - How can I inspect where the FB.exe is looping?
    - How can I inspect the interaction between FB and its Java VM?
    Thanks
    Charlie

  • High CPU usage with Flash

I was watching a video on Revision 3.com and after a few minutes my MacBook's Fan was screaming to pump out air. I quickly opened my Activity Monitor and I could not believe how maxed out my CPU cores were! Then I noticed too that Flash only runs in 32 bit while almost ever process was running in 64bit. Is that part of the problem. I went to the Adobe site and found more complaints on this but no solution. Is it just a matter of waiting for Flash to update and hopefully make it use less CPU cycles.
    Or is their a fix?

Reinstalled leopard and Flash working correctly again.
I guess I will wait until Snow Leopard and Adobe Flash play nice to reinstalled Snow leopard.

  • CPU usage is 98% when running my exe labview program

    Hi
I have made an executable and installer for my labview program. When I install and run, the program uses a lot of cpu - almost 100%, even when the program is not computing. I recently changed over to LVIEW 8.2 from LVIEW 7.1. I had none of these issues with 7.1.
Programatically, I use a state machine to continuously execute the program. I also use a couple of while loops as slaves to plot the results processed in the main loop. In all while loops I have a 'Wait' until next ms' vi to prevent the program using all the cpu, but it doesnt seem to be helping in LVIEW 8.2. This is somewhat strange.
Can someone suggest what may be happening? and are there any methods that I can use to reduce cpu usage of my program?
    Cheers
    RVR

It will be impossible to really troubleshoot this without a lot of additional infomation.
Is the CPU usage only high in the built application, or is it also high if you run the same program in the 8.2 development environment?
Was the 7.1 program exactly the same, or did you make any modifications since?
Are you running 8.20 or did you upgrade to 8.2.1?
What does the program actually do? Does it interact with DAQ hardware? File I/O?
What does the program do when it is "computing"? Is the CPU use even higher then?
Is there also a wait statement in the main while loop?
What is your OS (windows, linux, mac, etc.)
Is your computer reasonable for the task. Enough RAM, etc.
How do the various loops communicate with each other? (queues, local-, global-, shared- variables, etc.)
How much data is exchanged between the loops? At what rate?
Do you use fixed or variable size arrays?
Can you give us a more detailed overview of the code?
    How is the memory usage?
    have you done any profiling?
