Referencing beans as bean attributes in struts tags

Do struts tags allow you access bean attributes when the bean itself is an attribute of another bean?
If so, what would be the syntax?
For instance, I have bean A that contains as an attribute another bean B. I want to test for the value of
an attribute within B. Let's say I have bean A where A has get/set methods for B and B has get/set methods for an attribute called 'amount'. Then can I say something like:
<logic:equal name="A" property="B.amount" value="1">
I tried this syntax and also "B.getAmount()", but neither seems to work.
I have also tried <logic:equal name="A.B" property="amount" value="1">
but this doesn't work either.

I've used that x.y syntax before in some tags, but I don't know if logic tags support it... you should be able to do this:
<bean:define id="B" name="A" property="B" />
<logic:equal name="B" property="amount" value="1">

  • Jsp:include fails when referencing a struts bean:define bean

    When I request the jsp listed at the bottom, I get the following error:
              cannot resolve symbol
              symbol : variable pageTemplate
              The jsp works as is in both Tomcat and Resin.
              I know the pageTemplate bean gets defined by struts, because if I remove
              (1), I get the correct output of (2).
              Does WL precompile the pages differently than Tomcat/Resin?
              We know tiles can provide similar functionality, but for various reasons,
              this is the method that seems preferred.

    I know that in certain versions of WLS the Tag AT_END variables were not getting

  • Can't pass bean or request attribute from servlet to JSP

    Hi,
    I have a web app that starts with a file upload page that uses commons io fileUpload, passes the info on to a servlet. Then the servlet passes its info on to a JSP.
    I can upload the file onto the web app successfully. I also can call that uploaded file directly from the JSP (i.e. bypassing the servlet) without problem. But if I try to chain all 3 together while passing the url for the file directly as an attribute or as a bean containing file's url, I get premature end of file or can't find the property in the bean. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
    the error message:

  • "No bean found under attribute key" exception when a JSP is not accessed

    HI,
    We are using weblogic 7.1 SP6, Oblix and TRC struts in our application. During normal access to various pages system works fine. When the application is not accessed for 30 minutes system displays session expired exception. But some time when a page is not accessed for some time, say 15 - 20 minutes and user clicks any link system displays a exception dump in the screen. The exception displays for pages with track changes. The exception starts with following line
    [ServletException in:/jsp/include/Header.jsp] No bean found under attribute key HomepageFormBean' javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: No bean bound under attribute key HomePageFormBean at org.apache.struts.taglib.logic.CompareTagBase.condition(CompareTagBase.java:221) at org.apache.struts.taglib.logic.EqualTag.condition(EqualTag.java:90)
    After closing the window and tried to access the same page then the system works fine. The above exception is intermittent.
    Any help is highly appreciated.

  • Can I modify WLI system Bean's transaction attribute --turn on archiver resulting endless exception in log file

    hi,erveryone,
    one difficult question need help.
    Environment: WLS8.1sp2 + WLI8.1sp2 + ORACLE9i + solaris9
    when I started archiver manually,just for a while, wli system generated about 40,000 JMS messages in
    wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue,and consume the great mass of system resource of Database server,I had to stop these
    archive processes immediately to keep other applicaitons which using the same database running normal. I did so by
    following steps:
    (1) in WLI console, delete wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
    (2) in WLI console, reconstruct wli.internal.worklist.timer.queue;
    (3) restart wli server.
    after server was restarted, wli server output endless and repeatly exception to log file ,the typical exception was:

    The wli server generated log file very quickly ,:it can output 1M bytes log file per second,all logged information
    is similar to the <BEA-010049> excetpion metioned above. BEA support engineer suggested me to totally stop the

    completely override by <BEA-010049> excetpion.
    I checked the EntityEJBs in WLI console :Mywlidomain> Applications> WLI System EJBs> WLI Worklist Persistence$)A#,and
    found that in statistics table :

    attachment)
    WorklistTimerMDB: transaction rollback ratio = 99.97%
    It seems ListenerBean worked incorrectly.I searched in support.bea.com and found one example which also about server
    output endless log file,the author solved this problem by changing Bean's transaction-attribute from 'Required'
    to 'RequiresNew' thought he didn't know why it works. I try this method by changing ListenerBean's

    (2) is this method safe ?(Does "Modify ListenBean's transaction-attribute" impat other parts of wli system?)
    (3) after changed the transaction attribute, if turn on archive again, the server output endless exception:

    How can I solve these problem ? any suggestion is warm welcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Great Lou

    Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Preferably both.
    Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options.This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For details of how this works, see here:
    Using Setup Assistant
    Transfer only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware fault. Take the machine to an Apple Store for diagnosis.
    If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.
    Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.

  • Struts tag question

    I am writing a web app that uses Struts and the associated tag libs in the JSP. I am trying to create a form with three text fields, each of which will be initialized to a value from a bean referenced in the top of the JSP. When I try the following, I get an exception saying the value must be followed by a ". How can I do this?
    <html:form action="screens/UpdateName.do">
    <table>
    <tr><td> First: </td>
    <td> <html:text property="firstName" size="22" maxlength="22" value=<%= Customer.getFirstName();%>/>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr><td> Middle: </td>
    <td> <html:text property="middleName" size="22" maxlength="22"/>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr><td> Last: </td>
    <td> <html:text property="lastName" size="22" maxlength="22"/>
    </td>
    </tr>
         <tr><td colspan="2">
    <html:submit property="submit" value="Enter"/>
    </input>
    </td>
         </tr>
    </table>
    </html:form>
    Customer is the name of the bean with the name data in it.

    You don't need the value attribute for this tag. The property attribute will ensure that the text field gets the value from the Customer bean firstName property.
    You would use the value attribute if you weren't specifiying a property.

    Update: I just looked up the WL version and it's 8.1 sp3
              So, I guess, JSTL 1.1 (which includes jstl fn tags) is not supported by WL.... Someone correct me if I am wrong.

  • How to get parameter and add it to hyperlink using struts tag?

    Hi everyone:
    There is a.jsp pass a parameter to b.jsp.How to get the parameter in b.jsp using struts Tag?I also want to add the parameter to a hyperlink in b.jsp.For example in b.jsp <html:link forward=.....>cxxxx</html:link>.How to add the parameter(get from a.jsp) to cXXXX in b.jsp?

    Try this:
    Copy A Request Parameter - You can create a new bean containing the value of a parameter included in this request. If no parameter of the specified name was included, a request time exception will be thrown - therefore, it is common to nest the use of this tag inside a <logic:present parameter="xxx"> tag to ensure that the parameter was really included. If there is the possibility that more than one parameter of the same name was included, specify the "multiple" attribute (and the resulting value bean will be an array of String values, instead of a single String).
    <bean:parameter id="name" name="name"/>
    And then just use <html:link> with paramId. No java code at all.

  • Struts tag within struts tag

    Hi, i'm trying to preselect my dropdown list in my jsp page from a value inside a javabean:
    <td>
             <html:select property="value(profType)" value="<bean:write name="item" ignore="true" property="profType"/>">
              <html:option value="postpay">POSTPAY</html:option>
              <html:option value="prepay">PREPAY</html:option>
              <html:option value="differential">DIFFERENTIAL</html:option>
              <html:option value="prepay-differential">PREPAY-DIF</html:option>
             </html:select>
         </td>However, I'm sure this isn't legal so is there another way to preselect the value?

    Sorry it was a little abrupt.
    Struts can work both ways.
    Yes it takes the values from your html form, and maps it into your form-bean for you.
    Great stuff.
    However it can also take it from your form-bean and display it on the html form.
    If you don't specify a value for the field, it will try and look it up using the name/property attributes of the tag.
    Your property value(profType) would indicate that you are using a map backed form? If your form contains that value it should be able to populate the select box for you using that property.
    ie all you should need is this:
    <html:select property="value(profType)">
    or maybe
    <html:select name="item" property="profType")>
    As you have noticed you can't nest custom tags as attributes to other custom tags. You can only use runtime expressions.
    If you have JSP2.0 container then you could probably write it as
    <html:select property="value(profType)" value="${item.profType}">

  • Passing struts-tag value to java / javascript variable in JSP

         <br/><bean:write name="Type" />
        </logic:iterate>
    </logic:notEmpty>Here the list can be populated in the jsp page. However i want the values into jsp list. Im not able to populate the same..
    <% List jspList = null;
    %> I want the values into the jspList variable for further processing. Can u guz pls help me on this....

    Which do you want it in?
    A java variable for use in <% scriptlet code %> or a javascript variable for use on the client end?
    scriptlet:
    <jsp:useBean id="TreeBean" type="java.util.List" class="java.util.ArrayList" scope="?????" />
    Having scriptlet code on the page is considered bad coding style.
    What is it you are trying to accomplish by making the value accessible?
    What are you trying to do in java / javascript that can't be done with JSP tags?

  • Struts tags

    Hi there
    I am new to struts. I was trying to test a logon system, and I got some problems with invoking struts tags.
    I created "pages" fold and "tags" fold under my WEB-INF fold. I copied and pasted all tlds in tags fold including struts-html.tld. In pages fold, there is a Logon.jsp, which has <%@ taglib uri="/tags/struts-html" prefix="html" %> at the top.

    Hi there
    I am new to struts. I was trying to test a logon
    system, and I got some problems with invoking struts
    tags.
    I created "pages" fold and "tags" fold under my
    WEB-INF fold. I copied and pasted all tlds in tags
    fold including struts-html.tld. In pages fold, there
    is a Logon.jsp, which has <%@ taglib
    uri="/tags/struts-html" prefix="html" %> at the top.
    However, the system gives me an error message below
    File "/tags/struts-html" not found
    If I change it to <%@ taglib
    uri="/tags/struts-html.tld" prefix="html" %>, the
    errors becomes to
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:

    a/lang/...................
    Does anyon know how to fix it?

    Weiming ChenDear Weiming Chen,
    Try this,
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/struts-html.tld" prefix="html"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/struts-bean.tld" prefix="bean"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tlds/struts-logic.tld" prefix="logic"%>

  • JNDI lookup help please-Bean to Bean callout locally in same oc4j container

    Hi - I'm fairly new to oc4j/ejb coding - I'm trying to get a simple application running to show that our code can be run in local mode - here is the scenario:
    - Bean A (our application bean) within Application A
    - Bean B (customer-developed bean) within Application B
    - Bean B calls Bean A
    - Bean A + Bean B are different application instances in the same oc4j container
    - Jsp (residing in ApplicationB) within the same oc4j container calling Bean B, which invokes Bean A
    ====
    I get the following exception (classes renamed to match scenario):
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: oracle.apps.applicationa.common.BeanA not found in anothercompany.applicationb.common.BeanB
    [java] at com.oracle.naming.J2EEContext.getSubContext(J2EEContext.java:93)
    [java] at com.oracle.naming.J2EEContext.lookup(J2EEContext.java:76)
    [java] at com.evermind.server.ApplicationContext.lookupJavaCompEnv(ApplicationContext.java:265)
    [java] at com.evermind.server.ApplicationContext.lookupJavaComp(ApplicationContext.java:132)
    [java] at com.evermind.server.ApplicationContext.lookup(ApplicationContext.java:306)
    [java] at com.evermind.server.ApplicationContext.lookup(ApplicationContext.java:120)
    [java] at javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(InitialContext.java:347)
    - BeanA is part of application named "AppA" in server.xml
    - BeanB is part of application named "AppB" in server.xml
    - AppB has attribute 'parent="AppA"' in server.xml
    - If I change the Jsp file (residing in AppB) to call BeanA directly in the jsp code it works with no JNDI error, but changing the jsp code back to calling BeanB (which then calls BeanA) will throw the NameNotFoundException
    My Stateless Session Bean is very simple and I have tried not setting the context and setting the context. I'm thinking this is a very simple configuration issue, but have not been able to find the solution yet... I've tried playing with the setSessionContext method in the session bean but have had no luck and am not sure what to set the variables to or even if I'm in the correct method...
    public void setSessionContext(SessionContext ctx) {
    if (verbose)
    System.out.println("setSessionContext called");
    Properties env = new Properties();
    // tried all three context factories...
    //env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.evermind.server.ApplicationInitalContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.evermind.server.ApplicationClientInitialContextFactory");
    //env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    // not sure what url to put, if any
    //env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/AppB");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost/AppB");
    // tried with and without security principals... also tried sysadmin/sysadmin
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "guest");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "welcome");
    // mProps is a local transient member var of type Properties
    mProps = env;
    // mCtx is a local transient member var of type SessionContext
    mCtx = ctx;
    (edit) additional info:
    - all beans/classes are in the same classes directory; there are no jar files, so in application.xml the specified classpath is "classes" which includes both appA and appB classes
    - I verified that if I point (appB) jsp directly to BeanA it works with the "parent" attribute set on appB in server.xml, and when I remove the "parent" attribute on appB in server.xml the jsp throws a NameNotFoundException
    edit #2:
    another interesting note is that the exception message says "oracle.apps.applicationa.common.BeanA not found in anothercompany.applicationb.common.BeanB"
    and usually the naming error I see is:
    "oracle.apps.applicationa.common.BeanA not found in appB"
    (as with the case when I use a jsp to access appA beans without setting the parent application of appB to appA)
    - also my j2ee/home/applications/appB/WEB-INF/web.xml includes the oracle.apps.applicationa.common.BeanA ejb-ref tag
    any help is appreciated - thanks!

    Hi Steve
    thanks for the reply - I currently have the parent attribute set in server.xml which is why the jsp connection works, but for some strange reason the bean cannot connect to other bean...
    my server.xml has something like...
    <application name="appA" location="appA" auto-start="true"/>
    <application name="appB" location="appB" parent="appA" auto-start="true"/>
    (ok, the tags might be off because I'm not in front of my workstation looking at the xml file...)
    on another interesting note, in the session bean for AppB I've tried searching for the ejb bean for app B (itself basically) with the default initial context and it cannot find its own bean within the same application... the message would be something like "NameNotFoundException: anothercompany.applicationb.common.BeanB not found in anothercompany.applicationb.common.BeanB"

  • Struts tag for request.setAttribute() in a jsp page

    Hello All
    Does anyone know struts tag that can be used for request.setAttribute() in a jsp page?
    Thanx in advance.

    Well
    <bean:define id="foo" name="newsIdAttribute" scope="request" type="java.lang.String" />is equivalent to
    <%
    (java.lang.String) foo = (java.lang.String)request.getAttribute("newsIdAttribute");
    %for setting bean properties you might have to use
    <jsp:setProperty/> or <c:set/> tags in JSP / JSTL respectively.
    Hope this might answer your question :)

  • PDK Struts tags

    When trying to use the PDK Struts tags in a portlet, I receive the following error message when the portlet has been deployed to a 10g portal:
    [ServletException in:/WEB-INF/jsp/tiles/portal/index.jsp] action'
    Even with debug mode enabled on the server, that's the only detail I get. My config is as follows:
    IN SERVER.XML
    <taglib>
    <taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/tld/pdk-struts-html.tld</taglib-uri> <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tld/pdk-struts-html.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    IN THE TAGLIB INCLUDE
    <%@ taglib uri='/WEB-INF/tld/pdk-struts-html.tld' prefix='pdk' %>
    IN THE JSP:
    <pdk:link page="/servlet/letterView">Link text</pdk:link>
    VERIFIED:
    - The portlet works without the tag included.
    - It works using the standard Struts html:link tag, but of course generates the resulting page in it's own screen, outside of the portal container
    - The TLD is indeed in the location listed in the URI
    - The following two JARs are included in the LIB directory: pdkjava.jar, pdkstruts.jar
    - I removed all attributes from the tag and received a more detailed message (Cannot create rewrite URL: java.net.MalformedURLException: You must specify exactly one of "forward", "href", or "page"') so it seems like everything that needs to be in place is indeed in place -- it seems like I'm just misusing the tag.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    The problem was an old copy of the struts.jar file, which was missing the calculateUrl() method called by the Oracle tag. With a new struts.jar file, all was good.
