Referencing Form Values WITHOUT submitting

Hi Guys,
How do you reference a Form value in a JSP page WITHOUT submitting the Form and then use the form value to set a c:param ?
<input type="button" name="btnPassword" value="Password?"
onClick="
            <c:url var="emailMyPwdUrl" value="secure/MailPasswd.do">
                    <c:param name="username" value= "??????????"/>
            </c:url>"thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan.
Short answer: You don't.
Long answer: Your jsp code is rendered on your server, end your html is rendered on the client. Thus the jsp renderes when hitting the server and is therefore run before the html. You can't run jsp-code on the client, and you will need so sumit to do so. You can access your html-fields with javascript.

  • How to update session state from form field values without submitting page?

    Hi,
    I am new to Oracle APEX. I am using Oracle Apex 4.2 on Oracle 11g release 2. The problem is that when I am entering data on a form, when I enter a value in one field and move to the next field, how can I use the value of first field in the validation procedure of next field? I know that when we enter data in fields, the session state is not updated with these values until we submit the page... right... but I have seen that if there is a control of List box type, then Apex gives an option "Action When List changes" where we can choose option to update corresponding session state field with the value of list box item, without submitting the page.
    Now my questions is why this option is only available for List box items? why not for other item types like Text box, Check box,... ? can someone please help me with this?
    (the issue with update of session state depending on page submitting, is that we need a complete network round trip from client to server in order for it. However if we can update session state variables without submitting page, then we can avoid this network traffic).
    Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Create a dynamic action on change and run a PL/SQL process there with the following code:
    BEGIN
       NULL;
    END;Page items to submit > your item.
    This will set the session state without submitting the form.

  • Problem using javascript to submit jsf form, values not submitted

    Greetings!
    I have a t:selectOneMenu where I want the page to be submitted when they change the selected value. At this point, I am able to get the form to submit and reload the page, which is all fine. The problem is that none of the values from the page are not set in the backing bean. I have break points on the setter methods that are not being hit.
    I have tried a number of things from searching multiple forums, but here are snippets from my latest version...
    <h:form>
    <t:commandLink id="hiddenLink" forceId="true" value="test link"
    action="#{pc_PageX.doBtnHiddenLinkAction}"></t:commandLink>
    <t:selectOneMenu id="pageList_top" forceId="true" value="#{pc_PageX.ValueX}"
         onchange="jspellSync(); submitPageX();">
         <f:selectItems value="#{pc_PageX.ListX}" />
    </t:selectOneMenu>
    </h:form>
    function submitPageX(){
         var hiddenLink = document.getElementById("hiddenLink");
         hiddenLink.click();
    }Note that the <t:commandLink> is not hidden, though it will be in the final version if I can get this to work.
    If I click the commandLink myself, the page is submitted with all the page values as expected. If I change the list value, thus using javascript to fire the commandLink's click event, the page is submitted with NO values.
    Can anyone come up with an explanation for this behavior? Or better yet, a solution?
    A couple other things I've tried...
    - Not using a commandLink and using jsf's submit function -> onchange="jspellSync(); submit();"
    - Clicking the link using other ways -> hiddenLink.fireEvent('onclick');
    If all else fails, I'll just add a button that they have to click to submit the form.

    I recall this problem in one of the ancient JSF versions. Which JSF version do you use? Do you have any room to upgrade to latest? We're using an IBM implementation of JSF, which is at version 7.0. The IBM implementation appears to be built on the JSF base 1.1.That's not an IBM JSF implementation, they do not have any one, they just have some component libraries which runs on top of some JSF implementation. RAD/WSAD ships by default with Sun JSF RI. Try upgrading to at least 1.1_02 which you can download from the aforementioned link. There's a gap of 2 years (and inherently a lot of bugfixes) compared to 1.1. If the application server used supports Servlet 2.5, you could even upgrade to the latest 1.2.
    We've had other issues with the IBM implementation, which could be the cause in this case too. We've been talking about switching to MyFaces, but there is one feature of the IBM version that we like. It's basically a script collector (hx:scriptCollector) that allows us to do pre-processing on the page.As said before, IBM does not have a JSF implementation. So replacing RI by MyFaces wouldn't make any difference.

  • Struts2 - Escape form values while submitting

    Hi,
    I am using struts2 and annotations for validations.
    In my form, when i put following text in any textbox and say validation gets failed then same form display again but the textbox (Where I entered following text) shows wrongly, i mean text box shown with prefilled text "cross script <input type=" and other text (Airplane" type="text" class="txtbox" id="company.name" maxlength="255" />) next to textbox.
    "cross script <input type="radio" name="vehicle1" value="Airplane"> Airplane"
    Any inbuilt way in struts2 to escape special characters and quotes so that it should not disturbed the form and its values in case of server side error in saving the data in DB?
    Thanks

    Sounds like you're submitting too many parameters (15 * 130 = 1950), very close to 2000

  • How to get the database value without submitting the jsp page

    Hi,
    I have a form that has many fields (textbox/listbox). when user enter/change a value in the first textbox, I need to pass this value to the database to check whether it exist and get the other values to be displayed to other fields in that form (i cannot get the javascript value to be pass to jsp without reload/refresh/submit. But, I need to get the user entered value, so I thought of hidden popup, iframe, etc but not sure how I could apply and which best suit this case). If I submit the page then I can easily get the value thru 'request.getParameter("fieldname") but cannot use this because I cannot submit the page.
    Pls help and possible provide me with the sample coding
    Thanks

    The best way for you is surely AJAX. But there is another way to stay compatible with older browsers:
    Since the default method a browser supposed to get data is refresh, there is nothing unnatural in it. Browsers are optimized to refreshes, like cached images, etc..
    So for these step-by-step things, you need to roll forward your data from page to page, and make the page to respond according the data it actually have. This can be easily achived with type="hidden" input fields in a form: the user will send you back all the data. Optionally you may show him the data you already have as visible text too.
    A more generalised way to "pull" the data: you make a whole page you include every time you need an additional data. This page will receive 2 parameters from where you've included it. This 2 parameters are each indexed arrays with the datas you have to pull in (here the default value), and you need to push forward. Optionally there is a 3rd parameter, the url it have to return (as the form's action property).
    And for them who now say that it would me more culture way to store this data in the session: Beware! Common mistake: Sessions are to store data about the user itself, not the datas for the next page! You never know what will be the next page! The user click some backward button and refresh button, and depending on your script, it may go stupid! Ok, not all the codes, but I've seen some. It's ok to store a sent file (fx. image) on the server, but always think the evil refresh and back buttons!

  • Populating values in jsp without submitting the form

    Hi,
    I have a jsp page in which i have 2 select boxes. The values to these select boxes should come from database. When i change the selection of select box, the corresponding values from database should be displayed in the other select box without submitting the form.
    How to accomplish that.
    Any one having any idea about how to implement this stuff, please reply.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joby.

    You should devide the JSP into two frames and make one frame size to 0 so it should not be visible to the use ,and put one jsp in this frame ,tht will work as the hidden jsp.
    now in other frame put ur main jsp and on the change event of th select call a java script function and in this function pass the parametr to the hidden jsp like
    parent.frames["hiddenframename"].document.location="hiddenJspName.jsp?parameter1=value1
    and now in hodden jsp populate the data frm database based on passed parameter and after getting the data fillup the select on the second frame.
    try it and if not work thn write me...

  • How to close popup with af:commandButton without submitting values?

    Hi all,
    I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.2.1
    My popup has few af:inputText components with value attribute binded to view scope variables.
    I set those view scope variables in backing bean before showing popup.
    When I change values of input fields and click cancel (af:commandButton, partialSubmit=true, immediate=true), popup is closed.
    Then, when I show popup again, values that I changed are visible although I set new values to view scope variables in backing bean before showing popup again.
    I noticed that when I close popup using close icon in upper right corner of popup everything works fine.
    Also, I tried using dialog cancel button and it also works fine.
    Is there a way for closing popup using af:commandButton but without submitting values?
    In previous releases of JDeveloper (<= 11.1.1.5) I didn't noticed this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Aleksandar

    Alexandar wrote:
    Is there a way for closing popup using af:commandButton but without submitting values?If you really want to use your own button without submitting, then some three lines of Javascript will do the trick. See the documentation of af:popup for that. Canceling a popup is a pure client-side operation. No event is sent to the server. No submit. No need to reset anything. That's basically what the built-in cancel button does as well.

    Hi All,
    I have a problem with <html:form> tag. When i am submitting the form using the submit button it is going to the Struts-config.xml file and getting the action mapping for the HazSummary.do. Hi Sreelatha,
    When you develop any interactive form please keep in mind the below things which you need to check:
    1. The layout type of the form should be ZCI. Select it from the form properties tab in SFP t-code.
    2. In web dynpro application (in case you are using for the form), the form type should be selected as native.
    3. In the form layout insert web dynpro script using menu->utilities->insert web dynpro script.
    4. After that come out of the form and run the report FP_ZCI_UPDATE giving your form name, also select the update check box in the report.
    Once these things are done your form should work fine.

    Vaibhav

  • How to Save State on an Entry Form prior to Submitting the Form?

    I want to be able to save the values the user enters to fields on the entry form if they navigate away from the page and come back (without the user clicking the submit button for the form.) For example, one of the input fields has a goLink to go to another page to lookup a field value - when the user returns from the page, all other form field values are cleared. If the user does submit the form by clicking the command button, then all form field values are saved (if the user navigates from the page and comes back, all values are retained.) What I'm trying to do then is somehow save the values (passivate the state) for the field the user has filled in when the user navigates from the page without submitting the form. Any suggestions?
    I am using a read-only View Object with all transient values. The VO is configured to passivate state including all transient values. The initial row is created programmatically; there will only be one row for the VO used as an entry form. I am not using a backing bean for the values and would prefer not to use one, but would rather use the VO's capability to passivate state to save the data values. The question then seems to be how to force the VO to passivate state prior to the form being submitted.
    thanks

    "My hunch is that the real problem is that the fields are not being set into the bindings due to the use of immediate="true"."
    Yes. Now I see that is the real problem. Is there anyway to force setting the bindings from the input form field values if the user navigates from the page using a goLink, or commandButton with immediate="true" other than overriding the default FacesPageLifecycle classes?
    I'd prefer not to have to do that unless necessary, and, if I over-ride that method, then how could I get it to work normally when the user presses the commandButton at the end of the form and I do want all validation checks to be performed (immediate=false for the form's submit button; immediate=true only for lookup commandButtons used for certain fields)?
    Here's an overview of how I set the page up:
    1. create transient view object; all attributes marked as always updateable; passivate state=true for VO and all transient values; no key id field selected (will only ever be one row - just using VO to save values that will eventually be used to do an insert to the database);
    2. transient VO added to Application Module
    3. Add data control to .jspx page as an ADF Form (not an ADF Creation Form)
    4. Add code to AM to create the initial row for the input form
    protected void prepareSession(Session session) {
    super.prepareSession(session);
    insertTransientViewObjRows();
    private void insertTransientViewObjRows() {
    ViewObject transientvo = getViewObj1();
    transientvo.clearCache();
    transientvo.insertRow(transientvo.createRow());

    </af:panelGroup>
    </af:panelLabelAndMessage>....

  • How to Edit the subject of a form that is submitted to me via email?

    Is there a way to Edit the subject of a form that is submitted to me via email?
    Ex. I've created multiple forms in Dreamweaver. They are submitted to my email address without problem.
    When I receive them, the default subject line in my email is "Form posted from Microsoft Internet Explorer"
    I want each of my forms to have their own subject line.
    Thanks

    Hi
    In your form to mail script insert the following just above the actual function to send the mail -
    $optional_subject = $_POST['form_subject'];
    and $optional_subject in your mail function just before the body info of your email.
    Insert an hidden field in your form with the id "form_subject" and the value you wish.

  • How do I pass a form value to Google Analytics

    I would like to pass a form value to Google Analytics. ie. if the user enters a value and submits the form, on the confirmation page I'd like to read the value and other form fields and pass those populate the Google Analytics tracking code ie. populate this withthe form values:
    _gaq.push(['_addItem',
          '1234',         // order ID - necessary to associate item with transaction
          'DD44',         // SKU/code - required
          'T-Shirt',      // product name - necessary to associate revenue with product
          'Olive Medium', // category or variation
          '11.99',        // unit price - required
          '1'             // quantity - required

    How about this - bind an ajax call to google analytics to the form submit button (change the type from submit to button or suppress the default event), having the form itself only submit after the ajax call is successful? No need to even worry about the confirmation page then.

  • How do I a form submit without losing page parametes on other portlets?

    I have a page with several portlets. How can I make one of the portlets do a form submit without losing page parameters in other portlets?
    If I do a submit only the controls in the form I have submitted are passed which means I loose parameters that where passed earlier.
    I looked at the code the portal uses for the next button and I see that it does a POST with the action being the complete current URL with existing parameters. When I do this I cannot access the form variables in my dynamic page.

    There are 3 steps to the balancing act of image weight (file size) vs image quality
    1) image dimensions (on screen height x width measured in pixels is all that counts). Smaller dimensions = smaller file size.
    2) compressed file type (JPEG for photos, PNG or GIF for everything else). Choose the right file type for your image.
    3) quality of the final compressed image - visually comparing the final image for "acceptableness" (less artifacts) vs final file size

    Any help will be appreciated...

    Hi,
    Are you downloading responses as PDF forms after forms are submitted? If so, FormsCentral doesn't provide an option to exclude empty fields and you won't be able to save PDF forms without empty fields.
    You can use this form to "vote" on popular feature requests, or to add a new one of your own:

Can I open the PDF, click on the submit button and get the PDF form submitted. Please let me know your thoughts here and also what do you think is the best option to integrate the Offline PDF forms into SAP system.
    Thanks!
    Surya.

    Hi,
    If i understand weel you want to send back the form to SAP in an offline scenario without using SMTP or HTTP(S) , that's right ?
    There are 3 solutions for send back the form to SAP :
    1 - HTTP(S)
    2 - SMTP with an inbound processing define in SAP system
