Refund, perhaps?

I made a digg article regarding all the problems people have been experiencing on their iPod touches with the 2.0 upgrade. Currently, I can't open any application I download using the App Store. The application just closes soon after I open it.
I've also read that some users are unable to use their iPod touch now due to the upgrade bricking their hardware.
Maybe Apple should issue a refund for this update, fix it, and make it freely available.
Digg article:

What do you guys think?

"What do you guys think?"
I think I shall have cantaloupe for breakfast. It is delicious and juicy.
I also think that there are tons of alternate possibilities as to why folks are having issues today. Not the least of which is that many folks looked to "alternate sources" yesterday during the outage and got software that may not be the final release. A situation I found, ironically enough, thanks to some other diggs.
I'm not saying that's you. But you can't speak for everyone else on that, unfortunately.
As for you, I would suggest using iTunes to restore the iPod.

  • Why is there no transparent refund process displayed on the App Store?

There does not appear to be a transparent refund process of Apps. this should be displayed visibly. Many apps may not be fit for purpose and possibly contravene the sales of goods act and advertising standards. It is perhaps time this was challenged or has it already been challenged?

  • ITunes is incompatible with Acer PCs, can I get a refund on my iPhone 4S and buy a Galaxy instead?

Ten days ago I signed a contract with Sprint for the 4S iPhone and Apple Care Plus through Radioshack. I also bought a $25 gift card to spend on iTunes Match.
When I got home to use it, and iTunes, I found that iTunes crashes within seconds of opening. Every time, guaranteed. I went through the usual steps recommended on these forums of checking for updates, turning off firewalls, restarting Windows, checking for viruses, uninstalling and reinstalling, running as administrator, pressing shift when opening, etc. No luck.
I went to the Apple store, and to my surprise, they claim iTunes is a whole seperate brand from Apple computers they know nothing about (I guess like how Ford and Lincoln are two seperate companies). Despite my expensive warranty, and the 4S not being remotely as usuable without iTunes (yes, I can still use it as a phone, and listen to Pandora, but I was really hoping to have MY collection of music and photos on it), theres nothing the Apple store would do. They recommended online support, but that breaks down to two options, these forums, and a paid (per minute?) "ExpressLane". According to Radioshack, that Express Lane is free with the Apple Care+ however, I'm afraid, if Apple Inc. considers iTunes a seperate company and service than the 4S, I will be charged a ton of money because technically my issue is with iTunes not the 4S hardware.
Nevertheless, at least at any cost someone on ExpressLane might be able to fix iTunes. But before I tried, I discovered that the problem is literally unfixable.
    I discovered this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3224128
Like a dozen people, all with the same Acer Aspire, and assuming by their claims of 1.0Ghz dual core AMD, the exact same netbook model I have. The same problem. (Only they have been able to use the rest of iTunes, just not some feature.) They claim theyve been able to get iTunes running by turning off something called Genius. But I can't seem to do anything fast enough from the time I click the iTunes icon on the desktop to the time it crashes.
If iTunes, one of the biggest features of iPhones, is incompatible with Acer PCs, and my only option is to buy a whole new computer, don't I deserve a refund?
Who would I take it up with? The Apple store was kinda rude. Should I complain to Sprint stores, or to Radioshack? Or Express Lane? Who is responsible for a refund? How does Apple get away with not addressing an issue that affects one of the most popular lower price brands of computers? I don't suppose Acers are all that rare considering their price, they seem to be the PC of choice at Targets, Sears, Kmart, Walmart, etc.

If you want to return your iPhone, you must do so through whoever you purchased the iPhone from. If that was someone other than an Apple Store, either online or physical, then that dealer's return policies will apply; Apple will have nothing to say about it. You may have to talk to Sprint in regards to your contract with them. I believe you have 30 days to return your phone and cancel your contract, but I'm not certain about Sprint.
iTunes works fine under Windows on many, many systems, including Acer. Perhaps if you'll post details here, someone can help you sort things out. The thread you refer discusses an earlier version of iTunes and probably no longer applies even if that were the problem on your system, though I cannot say with certainty.  Note that if you are running Windows 7 Starter on your netbook, that version is reported to have problems with a lot of software, not just iTunes. Many people have installed and run iTunes quite successfully, though.
they claim iTunes is a whole seperate brand from Apple computers they know nothing about
I don't know who you talked to, but either there was a misunderstanding - the statement would apply perhaps to the iTunes Store, but not to iTunes as a program - or that person was an idiot. iTunes, the program, is most definitely an Apple product and should be supported fully by the Apple Store technical staff.

  • Frustration! Refund for apps that don't do what they are supposed to?

How quickly a $2 app turns into a $50 waste of time!
I purchased a $2 unit converter app to use at work and whenever else I needed it. After playing with it for about 20-30 minutes, I realized that there were several calculation errors. The unit converter simply didn't do correct conversions! (1 foot equals 11.986 inches!?) Now, If I'm noticing some simple conversion errors myself, how many conversion errors are happening that I don't realize? Needless to say, this app is useless to me because I can't trust its data.
So I contacted the dev, and even got a response within a day. I sent a second message where I had done a lot of troubleshooting for them, hoping they could correct the problems. Nothing. No update, no response, nothing.
So this brings me to my question... how can you get a refund for an app that doesn't do what it is supposed to do?
Yes, yes, I realize the "all sales are final" thing. But this is where Apple's usual high level of customer service fails. Am I supposed to buy apps on blind faith that they work, knowing there is no refund? If I was assured that someone was testing these apps and assuring me that they do what they are supposed to, then okay. But that's not happening.
Oh, wait... read reviews before buying? How is that possible for new(er) apps? If nobody buys it because they are waiting for reviews, then nobody can review it. I'd hate to be a dev and make a great app and have nobody buy it because they were afraid it wouldn't work.
Not all apps have free/lite/trial versions.
If this "no refund" policy is to be fair, then there needs to be demo or trial periods on all apps, to be certain that they actually do what they are supposed to! Until then, I want my $2 back so I can buy a unit converter that doesn't have calculation errors. I won't hold my breath for that... or for the ~$50 of my time wasted testing someone else’s app to no avail, and trying to find a contact source for Apple to request a refund.

I do see where you are coming from.
However I'm just personally against people buying something with the intent of taking it back and that's what would worry me here. I'm talking about girls I know who buy 4 dresses to take home and try out (and perhaps wear) and then take some or all of them back. Now that's one way to shop but I don't agree with it as I think it makes it more expensive for the rest of us as there is a cost involved in customer service and repackaging returned items. Note that is an example and I don't particularly care about buying dresses myself - except on Fridays when I log on as BettyDP
And you mention you only want this for broken apps (i.e. ones that fail to deliver what the are for), rather than apps you bought and decided you didn't like/need. But this is a fine line and some people would use such a system to try to claim money back on an app they bought and thought wasn't that good, even if it did what it said. So who's to judge where that line is? And to have Apple employing people to make that call would push up the cost to all the apps.
Now you genuinely have an issue with this particular app and, in my opinion, deserve your money back. However if you buy 100s of apps and end up wanting your money back on a large proportion of them then I do not agree with you, for the above reasons. When spending money, in my opinion, you should do your research and read reviews to make sure it suits. Sometimes, for a new app, you can't do as much in which case you either take a risk or hope you can get your money back if it doesn't suit. Yes, an item sold should do what it says to meet basic trading standards (and otherwise it's basically fraud), but, IMHO, there should also be a level of caveat emptor (buyer beware).
Ultimately, for $2, I personally would probably chalk it up to experience and not try to reclaim it - thinking that the time spent trying to claim it back would be more hassle than it's worth. But then maybe that's just me.
Now your demo point is a good one. Some app developers make a demo or lite version of their app to give you a free preview. That's their choice and not something Apple enforces and they think the extra coding to make this version is worth it in that it hopefully will drive up more sales. I agree it would be nice if Apple put some funky time limit on ALL apps so developers don't have to do this, and so you get it for free for 24hours to trial. It would certainly help in your situation and I myself would also find this useful.
Finally the time you spent debugging the app is your time. You didn't need to do that and I don't think that's really that relevant here (I presume you aren't expecting to get you $2 back AND some extra because you spent some time fiddling with it?)
Anyway, now I've made my opinion known (which you are perfectly entitled to disagree with), I'll get off my high horse and actually point you out to something helpful:
    http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2009/07/09/iphone-app-refund/
(note I did read your comment about this form not working but I'd say try it again later or on another browser).
Also note the interesting comments on this link which give more reasons (from a Developers point of view) why this is possibly a bad idea...

  • How can I get a refund at the App Store when it isn't offered ?

Perhaps the Apple attack dogs will like this post better.
How do I get a refund for a costly app that, after requesting a refund, appears to not offer one? How does one know if an app meets one's needs unless you try it first?
This seems so obvious, and yet, I am shocked that Apple does not offer a trial or refund opportunity if even for 24-48 hours.
Is there another way to get a refund that I'm not aware of?

I repeat, the Apple policy is that all sales are final and after an app has been bought and downloaded, there are no refunds. Period.
The ONLY exception to the No Refund policy is if something freaky happens and you buy an app and between your purchase and attempt to download the app it is removed from the iTunes/MAS and is no longer available.
    PAYMENTS, TAXES, AND REFUND POLICY
You agree that you will pay for all products you purchase through the Services, and that Apple may charge your payment method for any products purchased and for any additional amounts (including any taxes and late fees, as applicable) that may be accrued by or in connection with your Account. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TIMELY PAYMENT OF ALL FEES AND FOR PROVIDING APPLE WITH A VALID PAYMENT METHOD FOR PAYMENT OF ALL FEES. For details of how purchases are billed please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5582.
Your total price will include the price of the product plus any applicable sales tax; such sales tax is based on the bill-to address and the sales tax rate in effect at the time you download the product. We will charge tax only in states where digital goods are taxable.
All sales and rentals of products are final.
Prices for products offered via the Services may change at any time, and the Services do not provide price protection or refunds in the event of a price reduction or promotional offering.
If a product becomes unavailable following a transaction but prior to download, your sole remedy is a refund. If technical problems prevent or unreasonably delay delivery of your product, your exclusive and sole remedy is either replacement or refund of the price paid, as determined by Apple.
    https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html
If you have found a developer whose product you have purchased through the iTunes/MAS who will personally give you a refund, more power to you. That is beyond the scope of Apple's policy and between you and the developer only.
It's time to stop beating a dead horse and move along.

  • IPhoto update can't be installed on my MAC ref. "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

Recent upgrade to OS X Yosemite on my MAC and iPhoto update can not  now be installed msg reads, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

That error message can be misleading. It means, that iPhoto on your Mac is not associated with your Apple ID.
Either you did not set up  your Mac using the same Apple ID - did someone help with your setup and use a different ID? Perhaps a family member? Or did you let someone borrow your installer disks?
Or did you not yet "Accept" iPhoto and other iLife apps to your Apple ID? Check the "Purchased" tab of the App Store, if any applications are waiting to be accepted. If you see "Accept" buttons, press them.
You may  be unable to "Accept" now, if you missed the update to iphoto 9.5.1 on Mavericks. You could try to buy iPhoto, however. If you are lucky, it may show for free.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put it back,if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • How do I get a refund for 3.0

How do I get a refund for 3.0 my computer has not installed it on my ipod yet, and apple refuses to update it for it, so how do I get a refund back?

Apple probably won't refund your money. But if you post details about your problem - the iPod touch forum will probably be the best place - perhaps someone can help you sort out the problem. Alternatively, if there's an Apple Store near you (if you are indeed in Cupertino, the Palo Alto store may be the closest), you can probably get help at the Genius Bar.

  • HT4009 refunds for purchased apps

How can I get a refund for an in app purchase.
My grand daughter clicked on a purchase and not knowing the purchase price,
she asked me to enter my password.  Thinking it was a $3 or less app,
I went ahead and purchased.  Oops  $29.99 purchase, Ouch!!!
Simple little free app:   'Fair Food Maker'  .. yeah really.
Fair Food Maker - 6 Favorite carnival foods ALL IN ONE!, Unlock  Everything     $29.99  In-App Purchase
    MY COMPLAINT
These things should show purchase price for final evaluation before purchase!!!!!
    Scam!!!!
    Buyer beware......
I'm not happy with Apple, you can do better with this stuff.
    Thanks for letting me vent...

You probably cannot get a refund, since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
It's possible they'll make an exception for you.
For the future, perhaps you might want to turn off installing apps and making in-app purchases in the Restrictions settings. Then you can review any purchases your grandaughter wants to make prior to her purchasing them.

  • Hope For Audigy Owners? Refund Alchemy Cost? New Drive

Hmm... I couldn't help but noticing the "Audigy Alchemy" sticky has gone walkabout.
I also noticed http://us.creative.com/alchemy/welcome.asp . Complete the forum specifying the email address you used to purchase ALchemy For Audigy. The refund will be made to the credit card that was used for the original purchase. Please allow 30 days for the refund to take place. This offer is valid until 30th June.
The ALchemy application is being provided independent of the drivers, as it is not a driver. The new version of the application works with both X-Fi and Audigy products, and we have added additional updates relating to some popular games that behave differently on the X-Fi chipset guru as compared to the Audigy chipset. We would suggest you download the latest version from CREATIVE.COM when it becomes available.
    Thank You.
    The Soundblaster Team
Well if there's an Alchemy being released for Audigy series, could there be a possibility of * gasp * working Audigy Vista drivers One that provides 5. would be a nice start.
Perhaps I'm hoping for too much..
I am starting to wonder if somebody is finally listening, though.

    Hi DriverExpires,
That's correct, the original statement regarding this was made in the feedback sticky thread here.
I have made a quick edit to your post to change the link within the pasted statement to the correct link, but have left the link you included too. This way people are directed to the e-mail form instead of the Guru3D thread, so they can put their information through to us for the refund.
If you haven't already been keeping an eye on the thread I linked above, definitely do bookmark or subscribe to it as it's where we'll be posting or linking any updates/info we get for everyone there (so it's easy to keep track of things).

  • I downloaded two versions of the same album by mistake can I get a refund on one?

I downloaded two versions of the same album, one staight after the other, I've been charged for both, can I get one removed and a refund?

    Carol,
William Lloyd said it all, but perhaps Kirby Krieger's User Tip will explain a bit more the different uses of albums and projects:
                       The Well-Trod Path: a Beginner's Guide to how Aperture's major parts inter-relate
Then I imported into Aperature, created new versions, one for each snapshot, then cropped each snapshot, so each snapshot is seperate in Aperature.
You want to find each snapshot separately in Aperture? Perhaps you could explain more, how you want to organize your photos. William pointed out albums to group versions of an image. You could also assign keywords to mark special occasions like birthdays, weddings, etc.  You could assign faces to find photos of persons by name. You can use the search field in the browser to search for photos by face, date, keyword, etc.  Aperture is really great for accessing images in many different ways. There must be a way to access the images in your Aperture library just like you want to.
Then, I tried to organize the ton of photos into projects and it won't let multiple versions of the same original photo be in separate projects.
That is, how Aperture works. All versions of an image need to be in the same project, because they are sharing the same imported original image file. Aperture tries to save your disk space, by by not creating image files for the edited versions. Versions are just a set of instructions how to produce the rendered image, when you want to edit it or to export it. Unless you are working with the version, it will live in limbo and it will not exist as an image file. So all versions are kept together in the same project with the original image file that is necessary to render them as an image.

  • HT4009 How do I get a refund?

My son bought multiple copies of the same in-app purchase at 99.99 a pop.  I am trying to figure out if a refund of one of these is possible.

If you are looking for a refund for the purchase of this application, you must request this from the support web site for the itunes or app's store.   You should note that officially the iTunes Store does not give refunds and that the terms of sale state that "all sales are final". You can ask, though, and perhaps they'll make an exception for you.  Just state why you feel a refund is deserved.

I am planning on buying a notebook/laptop and the new T440p caught my eye. As I'm not planning on using Microsoft products on this notebook/laptop, I'm not willing to pay for licenses I'm not using. Is there a possibility for a refund of the costs of this license when I do not agree with the End User License Agreement (EULA)? • HT204088 Today I have purchased never line app but can not download. I rechecked with credit card center it paid already. How I should do. It can refund or not?

I paid from credit card 3.98 usd already for line sticker only 1 item already but can not download.  It can refund or not?

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.
