Maximum runtime of dialog work process is controlled by parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time I am not sure how it is possible to have dialog work process running for so many days. Secondly, when you restart the system means new PIDs will be allocated and it will be not the same dialog work process. Check SM50, trace information for more details and clues. -
Long Running BTC process in SAP R3 PROD system
Hello All,
In our PRD. env ..one BTC job running since long time with out collecting any data .
when looked into job log and its associated BTC work process its status is active and the action performed is Sequential read to the table RESB .And this job current duration time 100000 + .
Few Points which are observed 1>When I looked into expensive SQL statement , I can see the table RESB most of the times and below is the screen which I observed over there
SQL Statement
SELECT
"XLOEK" , "MATNR" , "WERKS" , "AUFNR" , "POSTP"
FROM
"RESB"
WHERE
"MANDT" = :A0 AND "AUFNR" IN ( :A1 , :A2 , :A3 , :A4 , :A5 ) AND "POSTP" IN ( :A6 , :A7 , :A
:A9 )#
Execution Plan
Explain from v$sql_plan: Address: 07000000CE24FD58 Hash_value: 940166482 Child_number: 1
SELECT STATEMENT ( Estimated Costs = 29,530 , Estimated #Rows = 0 )
1 TABLE ACCESS FULL RESB
( Estim. Costs = 29,529 , Estim. #Rows = 75 )
Estim. CPU-Costs = 2,848,540,469 Estim. IO-Costs = 29,284
2>If we look into the statement it mentions as TABLE ACCESS FULL RESB , what does this mean ?
3>Normally the previous execution of these jobs on average is 1500 seconds .
4>This job is relating to BW , which collects data from R3 remotely and sends report for BW system .
Can any one suggest me to fix this issue. as this is causing performance issues to the system .
Best Regards
RakeshHi Rakesh,
This job got hung. You need to cancel it. If job get hung repeatedly, then analyze the table RESB.
TABLE ACCESS FULL RESB means process unable to connect RESB. If analyze not work, the run total DB stat . Still you face problem the make RESB table buffering (SE13).
Check TRFC, QRFC no of entry. If it is huge, it can be problem. Send data part by part. Send data in week end not week days.
Thanks,

How to Handle Long running alerts in process chain...Urgent!!!
Hi All,
I am trying to find ways for handling long running alerts in process chains.
I need to be sending out mails if the processes are running for longer than a threshold value.
I did check this post:

Query on long running client import process
Hi Gurus,
I have few queries regarding the parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE. Let me brief about the SAP server configuration before I get into the actual problem.
We are running on ECC 6.0 on windows 2003, SP2 - 64 bit and DB is SQL 2005 with 16GB RAM and page file configured 22 GB.
As per the Zero Administration Memory management I have learnt as a rule of thumb, use SAP/DB = 70/30 and set the parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE to approximately 70% of the installed main memory. Please suggest should I change the parameter as described in zero administration memory guide? If so what are the precautions we should take care for changing memory parameters. Are there any major dependencies and known issues associated to this parameter?
Current PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter set to 512 MB.
Few days ago we had to perform the client copy using EXPORT / IMPORT method. Export process was normal and went well However the import process took almost 15 HRs to complete. Any clues what could be the possible reasons for long running client copy activity in SQL environment. I am suspecting the parameter PHY_MEMSIZE was configured to 512 MB which appears to be very low.
Please share your ideas and suggestions on this incase if anyone have ever experienced this sort of issue because we are going to perform a client copy again in next 10 days so i really need your inputs on this.
Thanks & Regards,
Vinod
Edited by: vinod kumar on Dec 5, 2009 9:24 AMHi Nagendra,
Thanks for your quick response.
Our production environment is running on ACtive/Active clustering like One central Instance and Dialog Instance. Database size is 116 GB with 1 data file and log file is 4.5 Gb which are shared in cluster.
As suggested by you if I need to modify the PHYS_MEMSIZE to 11 or 12 GB(70% of physical RAM). What are the precautions should I consider and I see there are many dependencies associated with this parameter as per the documentation of this parameter.
The standard values of the following parameters are calculated
According to PHYS_MEMSIZE
em/initial_size_MB = PHYS_MEMSIZE (extension by PHYS_MEMSIZE / 2)
rdisp/ROLL_SHM
rdisp/ROLL_MAXFS
rdisp/PG_SHM
rdisp/PG_MAXFS
Should I make the changes to both Central and dialog instance as well. Please clarify me,. Also are there any other parameters should i enhance or adjust to speedup the client copy process.
Many Thanks...
Thanks & Regards,

What are the Minimum Number of Dia or BTC Work Process should be Configured
Hi All,
Can any One Let me Know why We need to Have 2 Minimum Dialog Work Process and not 1 or 3.
What are the Task does this 2 Minimum work process handles in CI.
Thanks & Regards
DanYou need more than on if the system needs e. g. generate a program, this is done asynchronously, one process "waits" while a second generates a program. This is the absolute minimum, if you have only 1, you will stuck at the first time, the system needs to generate.

Distubution of BDLS run between work process
Hi all,
We have the R/3 4.6c with 4.2 TB and BW 7.0 with 7.4 TB , during the refresh from prod to quality the BDLS steps takes nealry 24 to 40 hrs . We have break down the tables and kicking off mutliple BDLS jobs like Z * tables in BDLS run and other set of tables in another run so that these jobs will run parallel . During this BDLS conversion only one background process
is running for one BDLS run is there any way to make the load distubution among available background process to so that the conversion will complete sooner.
For example : In R/3 i have trigger one BDLS run for CATSDB table in background this will occupy only one background process, how can we make to use of available all background process to run for CATSDB so that conversion will be completed soon .
Please suggest..
Thanks,
Subhash.GThere is nothing wrong is running BDLS jobs in parallel. We were facing a similar situation in a project a few years back and then I had devised a solution after taking inputs from various sources and usage of parallel processing was one of steps of achieving BDLS faster. Parallel processing is not an issue at all. However parallel processing needs to be done smartly. Bigger tables ought to be excluded and for them dedicated processes can be used. For the rest you can tables for bracket them like A* to D* ,E* to F* and so on making sure you are exclusing the larger tables. However usage of temporary indexes for big tables where not all the fields need to be filled in can be helpful. The index needs to include the field for logical system .No point in creating temporary indexes for tables where the logical system field is always full since anyways a complete table scan would be performed. Create indexes for 6-7 largest tablest of this kind. Of course increase thnumber of background processes as well temporarily.

Web.Show_Document does not work with long running reports
I am using Web.Show_Document() to call reports from Forms. Everything works fine for smaller reports. However for long running reports I do not get the output instead get the page "This page cannot be displayed.". On checking the job status on the report server I find that report is still running and completes after some time but by that time my http request has already timed out. What configuration do I have to change to make my long running reports work.
ThanksSo, looks like this is an IE issue. I need to add the form server site to my list of Trusted Sites. Once I did that, everything started to work fine. Thought I'd share in case anyone is really interested.....

Please let me know what the solution is.Matt,
A namesake of yours is my client for this issue.
Coming to the problem, the customer says there is proxy configured between HTTP server and WebSphere. This proxy server times out for long running reports. If the HTTPServer is bypassed, things work fine.
A colleague of mine opened a case with BOBJ. I can get you the case# if you need it. We got this reply:
From: Takano, Hitomi

Hi Matt,
I was away for the last two days, so I couldn't reply to you sooner.
Extending the timeout setting from Webi and Infoview in BOXI R2 will not
make the long running reports work as your proxy setting at the lower
layer than BOXI just allows 5 minutes and after that the connection will
be cancelled by the proxy. I'm not sure why this setting was effective
for https only or timeout out after 2 min. This is out of scope of BOXI
R2 and your network admin would be the best person to handle. You were
getting 502 error in Java Report Panel. I googled with "502 error and
ProxyTimeout", and I got the some articles returned which say when
backend doesn't answer on requests(because it timed out), it returns to
a client an error 502.
I'll close this thread as the n/w admin at the client are working things out.
Thanks for your support. -

It is a bit large will this do ?
Regards,

In forms how to cancel long running process or query in 10g
We have application which is hosted on 10g AS. Some forms has lot of processing to be done and sometimes user wants to cancel the processing in between maybe because he wants to change some value and refire processing.
Based on the search on net 'Esc' key was used in earlier version of forms to function as User requested Cancel operation. How can same be done in 10g. Do we have to do anything in fmrweb.res for this. Is there some setting to be done in forms or in AS for this functionality.
Does this matter on whether JInitiator is used or JPI is used for running the application?
Edited by: suresh_mathew on May 21, 2013 1:36 AMHi,
Exit can be used to cancel query mode i.e. in case you go into query mode by Exit you can cancel query mode. Suppose you went into query mode and you have fired query which will take some time to fetch how can I abort it.
In earlier version of form there was 'Cancel' facility wherein if triggered it used to fire an error message 'Ora--01013 user requested cancel of current operation"
With this facility you can abort any query which is executing or any long running process which forms is currently performing.
fmrweb.res would have entry like
27 : 0 : "Esc" : 1001 : "Cancel"
The above entry I picked from OPN
Java Function Numbers And Key Mappings For Forms Deployed Over Web [ID 66534.1]
Unfortunately this is not working for us even if I put this in frmweb.res of 10g AS
Basically I want ability to Abort/Cancel a long running process be it query execution or standard process triggered in the form.
Any advise or help is highly appreciated.

ProgressIndicator and hourglass for long running processes
Hi all,
Iam using Oracle ADF 10g with EJBs.
I have a long running process for which I want to give the user an indication of its progress. The process is run upon clicking a submit button.
I have tested the use of the combination of progressIndicator + poll according to the example of Gerger consulting( http://gergerconsulting.blogspot.com/2007/04/adf-faces-progressindicator-example-for.html) but it did not work. The problem is that my long running process hangs the page and the progress bar does not work until the process has finished.
I have seen a similar post in this foum (Re: How to run long background jobs in ADF applications where a user complains that there is not an Oracle method for running asynchronous processes from Oracle ADF.
I've tested to isolate my asynchronous process with the progressIndicator + poll in a single ADF page. The process is being activated from an invokeAction from the executables of the pagedef file. But again the process hangs the page and the progressIndicator does not display at all.
So I have abandoned the idea of the progress indicator and Iam thinking of using an hourglass.
Is there an example or guidelines of how I can do it?Thanks John for your reply,
Iam still working on the progressIndicator. I have read the discussion thoroughly quite many times.
One thing I have not yet figured out from your discussion is how you manage to create the long-running-process thread within an action method within the managed bean and make the thread still be active, while the parent action method has finished.
Usually the managed beans attached to a .jspx pages has request scope. So a commandButton's action method (that will spawn the long running thread) will finish much earlier than the thread and it will kill the thread.
Thanks,
Dimitris
