Regarding BUILT-IN type option at table

Hey guys,
I have one add on table with field ZLOTMG.
and i have set the data type as CHAR04(since if found only this already) and the description of this CHAR04 says "DATA TYPE 4".
When my friend saw this, he asked me to change it
to BUILT IN option.
if you view your table thru SE11 you can see one button option BUILT IN.
whats the use of this...?
I selected the CHAR04 and Clicked BUILT IN button.but did not changed anything..what does it mean..
whats the usage here really..pls tell me.
ambichan

Or you delete the CHAR04 data element reference from your table and not fill the field 'DATA ELEMENT', so you push 'BUILT-IN TYPE'. Now you can define type, lenght and description of your field without a link to DATA ELEMENT: infact the system closes DATA ELEMENT field, and opens the fields at right where you can fill all informations...
or you insert a Z data element and do doubleclick on it: the system ask to create a new data element to you: in definition you insert domain CHAR04 and all your defintions (short, medium....).
The second solution is better if you'll use this field in some your program (the system can use the descriptions)

  • Types of internal tables with regard to EFFICIENCY

Will any one tell me syntax to define each type of internal table  (standard, sorted , hashed , database) . how to compare their efficincy ( access time which is more effficent) is there any documantation or programme of such type exist then please tell  . i want to declare each type of above table and also to compare them w.r.t to efficeny thanks  want urgent reply

    Hi,
There are 3 types of Internal tables.
    Standard Internal Tables:
Standard tables have a linear index. You can access them using either the index or the key. If you use the key, the response time is in linear relationship to the number of table entries. The key of a standard table is always non-unique, and you may not include any specification for the uniqueness in the table definition.
This table type is particularly appropriate if you want to address individual table entries using the index. This is the quickest way to access table entries. To fill a standard table, append lines using the (APPEND) statement. You should read, modify and delete lines by referring to the index (INDEX option with the relevant ABAP command). The response time for accessing a standard table is in linear relation to the number of table entries. If you need to use key access, standard tables are appropriate if you can fill and process the table in separate steps. For example, you can fill a standard table by appending records and then sort it. If you then use key access with the binary search option (BINARY), the response time is in logarithmic relation to the number of table entries.
    Sorted Internal Tables:
Sorted tables are always saved correctly sorted by key. They also have a linear key, and, like standard tables, you can access them using either the table index or the key. When you use the key, the response time is in logarithmic relationship to the number of table entries, since the system uses a binary search. The key of a sorted table can be either unique, or non-unique, and you must specify either UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE in the table definition. Standard tables and sorted tables both belong to the generic group index tables.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want the table to be sorted while you are still adding entries to it. You fill the table using the (INSERT) statement, according to the sort sequence defined in the table key. Table entries that do not fit are recognised before they are inserted. The response time for access using the key is in logarithmic relation to the number of table entries, since the system automatically uses a binary search. Sorted tables are appropriate for partially sequential processing in a LOOP, as long as the WHERE condition contains the beginning of the table key.
    Hashed Internal Tables:
Hashes tables have no internal linear index. You can only access hashed tables by specifying the key. The response time is constant, regardless of the number of table entries, since the search uses a hash algorithm. The key of a hashed table must be unique, and you must specify UNIQUE in the table definition.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want mainly to use key access for table entries. You cannot access hashed tables using the index. When you use key access, the response time remains constant, regardless of the number of table entries. As with database tables, the key of a hashed table is always unique. Hashed tables are therefore a useful way of constructing and
using internal tables that are similar to database tables.

  • Query regarding the data type for fetcing records from multiple ODS tables

    hey guys;
i have a query regarding the data type for fetcing records from multiple ODS tables.
if i have 2 table with a same column name then in the datatype under parent row node i cant add 2 nodes with the same name.
can any one help with some suggestion.

    Hi Mudit,
One option would be to go as mentioned by Padamja , prefxing the table name to the column name or another would be to use the AS keyoword in your SQL statement.
AS is used to rename the column name when data is being selected from your DB.
So, the query  Select ename as empname from emptable will return the data with column name as empname.

  • DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET--- Supporting for BUILT-IN Types

    Hi All,
I am a newbie to SAP world. I want to get the Description of the Tables / Structure of the tables for a custom RFC which contains BUILT-IN TYPES and DOMAINS. Is it poossible to retrieve the same using FM DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET or is there any other recommended FM that is recommended.
On using a third party library/adapter to access a custom RFC->JCo->SAP customRFC, I get the Standard ABAP exception NOT_FOUND, which means that the TABLENAME supplied is invalid which seems to use the FM DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET and claims that customRFC with BUILT-IN & DOMAIN TYPES are not supported by FM DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET and recommended us to convey to our SAP team to change all TYPE to LIKE.
Is there a limitation of DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET for not being able to get the Description/Structure of the Table if the customRFC uses BUILT-IN or DOMAIN (TYPE) instead of STRUCTURES (LIKE)? any documentation that refers to this limitation in SAP.
I will be really thankful for all the help and replies.
    Best Regards,
    SC

    Hi Vijay,
Thanks a ton. I have gone thru this but unfortunately I couldn't find where it says DDIF_FIELDINFO_GET doesn't support BUILT-IN / DOMAIN types as claimed by the third party adapter company anyway I tried what  "Uwe" suggested with a sample Java App driectly with JCo. Thanks a lot SAP experts

  • Types of internal tables - More explanation(urgent)

    hi friends,
I wanted to explore diiferent types of internal table. when i went through the SAP.Help.Com for this , i wasnot able to get a clear idea of those 4 types of tables
    Mainly i wanted to know
    what is 1.standard table
            2.Hashed Table
            3.Sorted Table
            4. Index tables..
what are the advantages of these table and please explain me a scenario for when under what circumstances we would use these?
please reply me soon as i need to submit my documents reagarding this.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanks&Regards
    Prasanna.

    Standard tables
This is the most appropriate type if you are going to address the individual table entries using the index. Index access is the quickest possible access. You should fill a standard table by appending lines (ABAP APPEND statement), and read, modify and delete entries by specifying the index (INDEX option with the relevant ABAP command). The access time for a standard table increases in a linear relationship with the number of table entries. If you need key access, standard tables are particularly useful if you can fill and process the table in separate steps. For example, you could fill the table by appending entries, and then sort it. If you use the binary search option with key access, the response time is logarithmically proportional to the number of table entries.
    Sorted tables
This is the most appropriate type if you need a table which is sorted as you fill it. You fill sorted tables using the INSERT statement. Entries are inserted according to the sort sequence defined through the table key. Any illegal entries are recognized as soon as you try to add them to the table. The response time for key access is logarithmically proportional to the number of table entries, since the system always uses a binary search. Sorted tables are particularly useful for partially sequential processing in a LOOP if you specify the beginning of the table key in the WHERE condition.
    Hashed tables
This is the most appropriate type for any table where the main operation is key access. You cannot access a hashed table using its index. The response time for key access remains constant, regardless of the number of table entries. Like database tables, hashed tables always have a unique key. Hashed tables are useful if you want to construct and use an internal table which resembles a database table or for processing large amounts of data.

  • Mapping Line type Data to table data

    Hi,
I am trying to refer to a data element present in the line type of a table type which belongs to an import parameter of a smartform. How will i access the data element to use in the where clause of a select statement.
    For Eg:
    Import Parameter name: PARTNER_H
    TYPE: CRMT_OUTPUT_PARTNER_H_COMT  (table type)
The line type attached to this table type is CRMT_OUTPUT_PARTNER_H_COM.
This line type is the structure that contains the data element that i need to use. the details are as below:
    Component: RELATION_PARTNER
    Component type: BU_PARTNER_GUID
I have written a select statement as below:
SELECT SINGLE * from BUT000 into I_FS_BUT000 where
      PARTNER_GUID = PARTNER_H-RELATION_H.
I have given the input parameter as  PARTNER_H.
It throws me an error that "PARTNER_H" is a table without a header line and therefore has no component called "RELATION_H".
Is this the correct way to access the data element? Please help.

    Hi Neena,
Since PARTNER_H is an internal table it may have multiple values. If you want only a single entry from BUT000, you ll have to determine which entry from PARTNER_H you need in select query.
If it is always going to have only a single value then , this will work :
data: wa_partner_h type line of CRMT_OUTPUT_PARTNER_H_COMT.
    Read table partner_h into wa_partner_h index 1.
    if sy-subrc is initial.
SELECT SINGLE * from BUT000 into I_FS_BUT000 where
    PARTNER_GUID = WA_PARTNER_H-RELATION_H.
    endif.

  • Change lock type on large table

I have a table which is about 2G size. the lock type on this table is set as AllPage.  I think this cause performance issue when issue select query, many SH lock applied. I try to change the lock type to datarow, which should have no lock when issue select as document indicated.
but when I try it with DBArtisan, it took longtime and never end. Then I stop the app and connect it again. I found the lock type do change it to datarow. but there is a new table name like mytab_3309ac22 created.
then I try to change lock type again on other table and got following info:
You can not run Alter Table Lock in this database because the 'select into/bulkcopy' option is off.
Looks like dboption changed. So want to know if this is safe for data when change lock type? how to ensure it is done properly?

    Hi Kent,
The problem is that allpages has different physical structure than datarows.
Changing from one format to another requires to rewrite the whole table.
There are a few ways to achieve this goal.
    a) running the alter table directly:
    alter table x lock datarows
This command causes to make the change internally. This is the fastest way to do that, but it requries to set the 'select into' option on the database. And that might be problematic because it breaks the  the transaction log sequence.
If you don't have the option set on the database you are not able to run the command.
    b) doing it manually:
    1. create a second table with datarows scheme
    2. copy the rows to the table
    3. dropping the old and renaming the new table
If you have a very busy system with little time for downtime then that would be the only solution. You can create triggers to manually log all the changes on the old table if that process would take too long.
At the end you would have to add all the foreign keys to the new table. And of course recreate the indexes.
I don't exactly know what DBArtisan is doing, but since you don't have the 'select into' option then probably it is running the second option. This new table with name mytab_3309ac22 might be the effect of the operation broken in the middle. How many rows has this table have? And what is the scheme?
If you have plenty of time then I would recommend to run the alter table command together with the 'select into' option. Anyway you won't have any progress bar during this operation so it is very hard to predict the time of the operation.
    HTH,
    Adam
