Let me explain with the help of an example. Let's say you have an application running in a browser window. You click on a link and it opens a pop-up window. This pop-up window will be modal if you cannot interact with the parent window as long as this pop-up is visible/not closed.
On the other hand, if you can interact with the parent window while the pop-up window is visible/closed, it is called a non-modal window.
Basically, a modal window will block/suspend its parent window while a non-modal window will not.
In Web Dynpro, confirmation dialogs are examples of modal windows. Also you can create modal windows in WD using the createModalWindow method of IWDWindowManager.
Similarly, you can open non-modal windows in WD using the createNonModalExternalWindow method of IWDWindowManager.
A modal window is an example of an internal window while a non-modal window is an example of an external window.

Use the command "Properties" in Windows Explorer to unlock the file

I'm getting this error where, when I start Photoshop, I get a popup saying "Cannot load Photoshop because the file is locked or you don't have the needed privileges.. Use the command "Properties" in Windows Explorer to unlock the file". I unlocked it's access to everyone for the 64-bit and the 32-bit version, still doesn't work. The only way to make it work is by going in Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) and manually starting it as an administrator.
Everything was working just fine until today. Please help!

If this worked before, and you have made no hardware or software changes you might want to reset the preferences.
Start photoshop and IMMEDIATELY hold down the Alt + Ctrl + shift keys. It is a little tricky but keep trying until you get a reset window.

File Browser, properties, library window will not show up

I'm using an old version of Motion 3 and my File Browser, properties, library window will not show up even when I click on the icons and/or press command+2,3, or 4 . Seems to be some kind of settings glitch as Motion works fine when logged in under another user. Any thoughts.

Plist files contain instructions for recording and executing tasks associated with the the application or function that owns them. They can and do become corrupted. If you look in the username/Library/Preferences Folder you can usually guess what application or function the .plist serves by analyzing the file name. In this case it was the com.apple.iCal.plist file.
Proper identification of the appropriate .plist file is not always so obvious. When an application malfunctions, removing the associated .plist file from the preferences folder to the Desktop is often the easiest first troubleshooting step. Then log out/in or restart and re-evaluate the performance of the application.
A new default .plist file is automatically created in your Preferences Folder after you remove the recalcitrant .plist and initiate the log out/in restart sequence. You can expect default application behavior and you will have to reset some preferences. If the application or function returns to normal after removing the .plist file, it will prove that the original file was corrupt, and you can now safely trash the .plist file which you placed on the Desktop.
If the application or function is unsatisfactory with the new plist file, the original plist file which was placed on the Desktop can be safely returned to the preferences folder. Just allow the system to replace the newer plist.
If you are having problems with any aspect of OS X, experiment with deleting the appropriate .plist file. Plist corruption is not uncommon and .plist file deletion often cures many problems. Too many users try intricate solutions first and end up complicating their minor problem.

IMac properties on windows to render 3d max scenes

I'm an interior designer and I work a lot with rendering images in 3d max program, When rendering large scenes with a normal property PC it is heavy and it makes me slow in producing my work and sometimes it shuts down ad everything is simply gone , as known the program is compatible with windows only , I work on my macbook pro and use photoshop and other programs and I'm very comfortable with the Mac software. I'm thinking on getting iMac 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16Gb with an external Thunderbolt storage,
I need to know does the properties work same on the Macintosh software as booting to Windows, to work fast with the 3d max renders and do you advice me to get it. Please help me with any information you got, the cost is very hight and I cant affort if its a mistake

Problem with Layout / Missing Buttons in Flex Bulder Properties under Windows 7

Hi Guys,
I'have a very urgent problem wich i need to get fixed, but I didn't find any solution on the web.
I upgraded to Windows7 Professional 64. After installing Flex Builder3 with all its updates I wanted to change the run/debug settings in the properties of the project.
Unfortunatly the buttons on the rigth (edit, remove, etc won't show) i reinstalled flex builder 3 standalone several times without any luck.
I checked if there are areas wich also don't look right. in the flex programm properties i cant add any new sdk. Buttons there are also not there.
Please somebody maybe from adobe can help to solve this issue ?

Thanks alot David for trying to help. After spending several hours searching i found the problem.
Believe it or not, the problem is caused by the Logitech Drivers.
The Problem already existed in Vista 64bit.

Here's what I did to get it:
- browse to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase14-419411.html#j2sdk-1.4.2_17-oth-JPR and accept the License Agreement
- manually paste http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/j2sdk/j2sdk-1_4_2_17-windows-amd64.exe in the address bar of your browser (it's not in the list, but still on the servers)
- Oracle asks for you to login, either create a new account or use one from http://www.bugmenot.com/view/login.oracle.com

WebHelp Properties Settings Window Content Categories inconsistency

We are using RoboHelp 9 on a Windows 7 platform.
We are seeing what appears to be inconsistent behavior from RoboHelp when setting up a RoboHelp project.
These are the steps we follow:
Open RoboHelp.
Click Blank Project.
Enter title of project.
Enter location of project.
Click Finish.
Delete the "Frist Topic" file.
Select File > Project Settings.
On Project Settings, on the Import tab, in FrameMaker Document area, click Edit.
On Conversion Settings, click Image.
In Preferred Dimensions, select Width and Height.
Click Other Settings.
Select Topic Name Maker, and type in our custom marker name.
Click OK twice.
Right-click WebHelp (Primary Layout).
Select Properties.
In the WebHelp Settings window:
Click General, point to the output folder.
Click Content Categories -- and this is where RoboHelp appears to be inconsistent.
Sometimes the Content Categories node has a child node called Content <Default>, and sometimes that child node is not there.
As far as we know, we are following the exact same steps either way.
I am hoping someone who knows RoboHelp can tell us a simple fix to see the Content <Default> child node every single time.

We were creating a new project for every product. So...we were already creating a new WebHelp SSL for each product.
Your post gave me an idea for a work-around, and this is what I did:
Create the new RoboHelp project as normal.
Complete all 8 steps in the original post to see if the Content <Default> child node appeared (it didn't).
Closed the RoboHelp project.
Went back to a previous project that had the desired child node, and copied the WebHelp SSL.
Returned to the current RoboHelp project files and pasted the WebHelp SSL.
In RoboHelp, opened the current RoboHelp project.
Went to WebHelp (Primary Layout) properties.
Changed the name in the Title Bar field, and changed the location of the Output Folder.
Published content.
Everything is looking good! Thank you again.

What are Adobe's plans regarding AIR on Windows Phone?

Much ink has been spilled during the last years about different controversies regarding Flash on mobile devices and whether it has any future. Some it has while other maintain there isn't.
Can anyone point out any official information or other tidbits that would shed light on whether Adobe is interested in porting AIR to Windows Phone?

I can't speak much to Adobe's intent, but I believe I can speak to the
results of their actions. There is very little market for mobile AIR. In
fact, I get flat refusals, and often irritation for even having brought
it up when I just mention it. There is no future for Flash / AIR for
mobile apps, because Adobe hasn't marketed it that way.
It may be different for games, but I doubt it, since no one really know
what AIR is, and everyone "just knows" Flash doesn't work on mobiles.
Flash evangelists have been pretty much saying Flash is just for games,
but they've focused even in narrative mostly on leveraging their huge
desktop install base, rather than a traditional tech platform narrative
of expansion.
For myself, I wouldn't use Flash for client's mobile app, because Adobe
isn't promoting it's use that way, and as a result, it'll be an uphill
battle to convince anyone to buy that without Adobe's backing, and it'll
hard to find developers who are capable in that area, because they've
all moved on to other technology. There are other app platforms out
there with much more vibrant developer communities.
I'd also say that if they ever do decide to re-engage, Adobe may want to
take AIR, stage3d, and AVM3 and call it something completely different.
The Flash brand is pretty damaged at this point. Better to leave that in
the browser era, and move on.

Properties, methods window in editor: How to?

Hi all!
I am lost! I am desiging a java editor wherein i have to incorporate i feal, a very difficult functionality. In the text editor i want to show a window which will be poped up on "." press and will show methods and properties of the object onwhich we pressed a ".". Very similar to JBuilder, VB or any other advanced IDE. I wonder how this can be achieved.
There are number of possiblities i thought but none i think is feasible:
1. Store all properties and methods of all objects in database and show them on "." press event of particular object.(They must be doing like this in VB)
2. Load all properties and methods object in question using Reflection.(They must be doing like this in JBuilder)
3. Use JList object and add to it methods and properties.....
I really dont know which component can be shown as popup window. I have tried JList on Jwindow. But is there any other way to do it simply and quickly? If anyone of you has done it before pl. suggest me way to go about it. Working example could be handy indeed.

Printer Properties in Windows Eight

Hi,
I have added a Win 8 ASUS laptop to my local network.
It is working well sharing other network devices. I had to download drivers from HP to get the shared D7260 printer working.
I wanted to see if the Printer Properties were set for automatic duplex option in Advanced > Printing defaults.
and if the duplex unit was installed in Device Settings. The printer does have the Q5582A duplexer and it was present when the drivers were downloaded.
Much to my surprise the printer properties show up as a storage device. I have no idea how this happened. They show correctly on the desktop and another laptop. I need advice on how to correct this situation

OK, you are looking at things in the Computer folder, where the card reader in the Photosmart will show up as a drive (empty in this case, probably no card inserted). I have an Officejet 7410 on my network that show up as an empty drive letter in Computer, but also as a printer in the printers folder.
Try the following: go to Control Panel, Devices and Printers. Does the HP Photosmart D7200 series show up here? I suspect it will, since you mentioned printing. From there you can right click on the printer and select Properties... as mentioned in the previous post. If not then click Add a printer and let the wizard search your network. Most likely it will find the printer, if not click "The printer I want isn't listed", Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, Create a new port, Standard TCP/IP port, Next, enter the IP address (192.168.1.115 in your case), Next, click on Windows Update and wait for a few minutes for the list to populate, then select HP for the manufacturer and HP Photosmart C7200 series for the printer.

No "CSS properties" under window menu

I have illustrator CC and there is no "CSS properties" in the window menu as shown on this video: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-illustrator-cc/transform-visual-designs-into-css-styles-us ing-css-and-svg-export/

Those features won't be available until the June 17th update I believe. In which case you must be a Creative Cloud subscriber to get those features. They won't ever be a part of CS6 in my understanding.
The HTML5 pack is for Illustrator CS5. Staff should not be directing CS6 users to CS5-only items. At least not until the provide some direction about support.... http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1014933?tstart=0
