Regarding SLIN scope

hi guys,
Do SLIN/SCI programs check for below errors too?
1-BAPI related errors
2-ABAP Query related errors
3-SAPSCRIPT/SMARTFORMS errors
4-IDOC related errors.
Please suggest if any alternatives to find the upgrade error exist in programs using above.
Thanks.
Ambichan.

Hi,
You use this function to perform static checks, which are too time consuming for the normal syntax check. The extended program check returns both errors and warnings and it is possible to run either individual specialized tests or one whole standard check.
It check only for Reports, Module Pools, Class & Interfce.

    If yes, what is the best approach?
    Lets start with simple thing.. That i have to launch a app and on launch of app i will get login pop up and i have to enter user name nd password and then click on login dialog. I want to do this through any type of scripting not with any record playback thing...

  • Regarding SLIN

    hey guys,
    I have below 3 doubts.
    <b>1-What should be the input value  for this below FM to execute SLIN and return the result. I want to check all the option in FM to check error and execute.
    FM : EXTENDED_PROGRAM_CHECK.
    2- Will the above FM execution and SCI execution results will be same?
    3-Apart from EPC and SCI check, Is there any check need to be done to find Upgrade errors.</b>
    Thanks
    Kumar.

    hi,
    1> the input to the FM will be the Program name
    2> in SCI you need to select on which all you need to check oerformance whereas SLIN provides the list of performance issues it will check for
    3> ya just go to se38 type in your program name then in the menu program->check->code inspector
    --> also type i program anme in se38 then enter the program in display/change mode then go to in menu environment->examples

    Thanks in advance

    Yes there is. Store the values in managed bean properties and, in the prerender method, set the component values to the values from the managed bean properties.

    Start with Reports. What the client is using. What he is expecting.
    If he got existing reports map the fields with Business Content BW Fields. Go to Business content and make a list of queries which are delivered from SAP. Explain them the KPI's. This should be good to start with. Also check the Tcodes they use.
    Look for DataSources that get data from theses Tcode's.

  • Scope of java class used for building data control

    Hello,
    I have tried a sample application where in we are using Datacontrols to render the UI.
    The data control is generated off a simple java class(abc.java) which is used to render a "Page called - Employee". This java class then uses a session bean which in turn talks with the database entities. The database entities(POJO's - employee.java) are then exposed in the abc.java and used to display data on the UI such as employee name, id , etc.
    My question is regarding the scope of abc.java. I presume, that the constructor of this class will be called when the page is rendered.
    Now say i am navigating from some Page-A to Page-Employee. On click of a button in Page A, i want to go to the Database, retrieve a particular employee's details and then place it in the employee entity exposed in abc.java so that it gets displayed when Page-Employee is rendered.
    If the actionlistener method of the button click in Page A has the code of - 1)create new instance of abc - new abc() 2)retrieve employee entity 3) set employee entity in the class level attribute of abc
    But on going to the next page-employee, a new instance of abc is getting created and i am losing the employee that i had retrieved in the previous screen.
    Is there a scope for abc that can be set somewhere similar to managed beans? or is there some other solution.
    -thanks

    Hi,
    Say, on an 'employee create page' we use data controls which are generated from a java class, 'EmployeeService'.
    This java class has the POJO(entity) - Employee whose attributes like name, description are used to create input text boxes on the employee page.
    Now, assume we come to the Employee create page from some other page in the application; where exactly is the best place to make an instance of the employee entity.
    Do we place- Employee emp = new Employee(); in the constructor of the EmployeeService.java class or is there some other way?
    Any pointers would help.
    Thanks

  • Scope of request attributes

    Hi
    I have a question regarding the scope of the request variables when frames are used.I have a link from which i go to an action and store some variables in req scope and will reach a jsp which is made up of three frames and the middle frame is a jsp which in turn comprises of frames.Now in these jsps i am not able to access the request attributes.
    For ex
    action path="/login" type="LoginAction" name="LoginForm" validate="true" input="/login.jsp"
              forward name="operator" path="/index.jsp"
    and the index.jsp is
         <frameset framespacing="0" border="0" rows="55,80%,23" frameborder="0">
              <frame name="top" scrolling="no" noresize target="middle" src="top_frame.jsp">
              <frame name="middle" target="bottom" src="home.jsp" scrolling="no" noresize>
         <frame name="bottom" src="bottom_frame.jsp" target="middle" scrolling="no" noresize>
    </frameset>
    and the middle part in the above frame ie home.jsp is like
    <frameset framespacing="0" border="0" rows="55,80%,23" frameborder="0">
              <frame name="middle" target="bottom" src="body1.jsp" scrolling="no" noresize>
         <frame name="bottom" src="body2.jsp" target="middle" scrolling="no" noresize>
    </frameset>
    The problem is that these request variables are not available yo body1.jsp and body2.jsp.........whats the best way to make these attributes available to these pages also ...............

    Pass them along...
    <%
    String someValue = "myIDsomethingOrOther";
    %>
    <frameset ... >
    <frame src="page1.jsp?id=<%= someValue %>" ... />
    <frame src="page2.jsp?id=<%= someValue %>" ... />
    </frameset>But other then that, no.

  • Javascript discussion: Variable scopes and functions

    Hi,
    I'm wondering how people proceed regarding variable scope, and calling
    functions and things. For instance, it's finally sunk in that almost
    always a variable should be declared with var to keep it local.
    But along similar lines, how should one deal with functions? That is,
    should every function be completely self contained -- i.e. must any
    variables outside the scope of the function be passed to the function,
    and the function may not alter any variables but those that are local to
    it? Or is that not necessary to be so strict?
    Functions also seem to be limited in that they can only return a single
    variable. But what if I want to create a function that alters a bunch of
    variables?
    So I guess that's two questions:
    (1) Should all functions be self-contained?
    (2) What if the function needs to return a whole bunch of variables?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Ariel:
    (Incidentally, I couldn't find any way of  marking answers correct when I visited the web forums a few days ago, so I gave up.)
    It's there...as long as you're logged in at least, and are the poster of the thread.
    What I want is to write code that I can easily come back to a few months later
    and make changes/add features -- so it's only me that sees the code, but
    after long intervals it can almost be as though someone else has written
    it! So I was wondering if I would be doing myself a favour by being more
    strict about make functions independent etc. Also, I was noticing that
    in the sample scripts that accompany InDesign (written by Olav Kvern?)
    the functions seem always to require all variables to be passed to it.
    Where it is not impractical to do so, you should make functions independent and reusable. But there are plenty of cases where it is impractical, or at least very annoying to do so.
    The sample scripts for InDesign are written to be in parallel between three different languages, and have a certain lowest-common-denominator effect. They also make use of some practices I would consider Not Very Good. I would not recommend them as an example for how to learn to write a large Javascript project.
    I'm not 100% sure what you mean by persistent session. Most of my
    scripts are run once and then quit. However, some do create a modeless
    dialog (ie where you can interface with the UI while running it), which
    is the only time I need to use #targetengine.
    Any script that specifies a #targetengine other than "main" is in a persistent session. It means that variables (and functions) will persist from script invokation to invokation. If you have two scripts that run in #targetengine session, for instance, because of their user interfaces, they can have conficting global variables. (Some people will suggest you should give each script its own #targetengine. I am not convinced this is a good idea, but my reasons against it are mostly speculation about performance and memory issues, which are things I will later tell you to not worry about.)
    But I think you've answered one of my questions when you say that the
    thing to avoid is the "v1" scope. Although I don't really see what the
    problem is in the context of InDesign scripting (unless someone else is
    going to using your script as function in one of theirs). Probably in
    Web design it's more of an issue, because a web page could be running
    several scripts at the same time?
    It's more of an issue in web browsers, certainly (which I have ~no experience writing complex Javascript for, by the way), but it matters in ID, too. See above. It also complicates code reuse across projects.
    Regarding functions altering variables: for example, I have a catalog
    script. myMasterPage is a variable that keeps track of which masterpage
    is being used. A function addPage() will add a page, but will need to
    update myMasterPage because many other functions in the script refer to
    that. However, addPage() also needs to update the total page count
    variable, the database-line-number-index-variable and several others,
    which are all used in most other functions. It seems laborious and
    unnecessary to pass them all to each function, then have the function
    alter them and return an array that would then need to be deciphered and
    applied back to the main variables. So in such a case I let the function
    alter these "global" (though not v1) variables. You're saying that's okay.
    Yes, that is OK. It's not a good idea to call that scope "global," though, since you'll promote confusion. You could call it...outer function scope, maybe? Not sure; that assumes addPage() is nested within some other function whose scope is containing myMasterPage.
    It is definitely true that you should not individually pass them to the function and return them as an array and reassign them to the outer function's variables.
    I think it is OK for addPage() to change them, yes.
    Another approach would be something like:
    (function() {
      var MPstate = {
        totalPages: 0,
        dbline: -1
      function addPage(state) {
        state.totalPages++;
        state.dbline=0;
        return state;
      MPstate = addPage(MPstate);
    I don't think this is a particularly good approach, though. It is clunky and also doesn't permit an easy way for addPage() to return success or failure.
    Of course it could instead do something like:
        return { success: true, state: state };
      var returnVal = addPage(MPstate);
      if (returnVal.success) { MPstate = returnVal.state; }
    but that's not very comforting either. Letting addPage() access it's parent functions variables works much much better, as you surmised.
    However, the down-side is that intuitively I feel this makes the script
    more "messy" -- less legible and professional. (On the other hand, I
    recall reading that passing a lot of variables to functions comes with a
    performance penalty.)
    I think that as long as you sufficiently clearly comment your code it is fine.
    Remember this sort of thing is part-and-parcel for a language that has classes and method functions inside those classes (e.g. Java, Python, ActionScript3, C++, etc.). It's totally reasonable for a class to define a bunch of variables that are scoped to that class and then implement a bunch of methods to modify those class variables. You should not sweat it.
    Passing lots of variables to functions does not incur any meaningful performance penalty at the level you should be worrying about. Premature optimization is almost always a bad idea. On the other hand, you should avoid doing so for a different reason -- it is hard to read and confusing to remember when the number of arguments to something is more than three or so. For instance, compare:
    addPage("iv", 3, "The rain in spain", 4, loremIpsumText);
    addPage({ name: "iv", insertAfter: 3, headingText: "The rain in spain",
      numberColumns: 4, bodyText: loremIpsumText});
    The latter is more verbose, but immensely more readable. And the order of parameters no longer matters.
    You should, in general, use Objects in this way when the number of parameters exceeds about three.
    I knew a function could return an array. I'll have to read up on it
    returing an object. (I mean, I guess I intuitively knew that too -- I'm
    sure I've had functions return textFrames or what-have-you),
    Remember that in Javascript, when we say Object we mean something like an associative array or dictionary in other languages. An arbitrary set of name/value pairs. This is confusing because it also means other kinds of objects, like DOM objects (textFrames, etc.), which are technically Javascript Objects too, because everything inherits from Object.prototype. But...that's not what I mean.
    So yes, read up on Objects. They are incredibly handy.

  • Transfrom process activity in JDeveloper

    hi
    I am trying to map some Purchase Order data fetched from Oracle Applications E-Business
    Suite to 850.xsd a definition supported by the EDI x12 business format.
    If any body has tried out a similar exercise please help me how to desing the mapping using Transform Process Activity.
    PFA the list of steps that I have followed.
    1. I have selected an async process.
    2.Created two Partner Links one to select data from Oracle Apps, by running a procedure and the other to choose the B2B docs deployed in the B2B server(850 definitions) in our case.
    3.Used a Invoke and Reply process activity
    4.Used a Assign activity to assign the variables of PO to the Transform Activity.
    5.Now in the Transform I am trying to link say Po number to a particular segment of 850 that signifies PO number. But when I am trying to test and validate the transformation its givin error.
    But to my utter surprise the BPEL process is getting complied and is also deployed successfuly on the BPEL server.Even the Audit trail from the UI of BPEL console shows the data being mapped to those required in 850.xsd
    Is the process that I have followed is the correct method. Any suggestions will be of great help
    Thanks and Regards
    Prabal

    Hi,
    Scope activity is being used as a container for other activities. Within the scope you can manage fault handling, compensation, variable declaration, correlation etc..
    When you build, or design your process, you need to consider a use of a scope activity.
    For example: You need to design a process that calls java class and a web service(or other 2 operations). You can:
    1. Use 1 scope that contains both calls. That way, if you will have an error for either one of the services, you can catch it, and do something, like terminate the process.
    2. Use 1 scope for each service call. That way, if you will have an error for either one of the services, you can catch it, and continue to the next process step (scope or other activity).
    Also, within a scope you can declare an operation that Replay the scope. That way, if something happens -> begin the scope (and its activities) from the beginning.
    There are many ways and purposes to use a scope. Again, it depends what is your requirement.
    One important thing to consider –scope can influence on performance (just to be aware of).

  • Restrict Drill up  in hierachy

    Hi
    i have created a report, which has some account dimensions and it has 11 level as default hierarchy
    i need to show from level 04 in my report , so i have taken level 04 and rest of the levels in query and enabled the drill option,
    now what happens is, it is allowing me to drill up, when i am not taking levels 01,02 and 03 objects from queries,
    i dont want this to happen,
    is there any way to restrict this drill up object from account level 04 alone,??
    Regards
    Dineshkumar

    Hi,
    Scope of analysis is the process of refining the data to lower levels of detail is calleddrilling down on an object.
    First you set Scope of analysis.  You can set the scope of analysis level when you build a query so that your query includes objects lower down the hierarchy, but the objects do not appear in the Results Objects Pane.
    Steps:-
    1. First drop the objects in the Result Objects.
    2. Select radio button "Display by hierarchies".  Opens Create Query window.
    3. In Create Query Window, click on "Show/Hide scope of analysis" button.
    4. Now you can see scope of analysis pane below the query filters.  Now you can now define how many levels ofdetail you want to include in the data that is retrieved by the query for which you want.
    5. Click on Scope level dropdown list, select levels, and run query.
    6. Click on Drill button

  • Loading and modifying a SWF file within an AIR application

    I bet you get this question a lot, but I was wondering, if possible, anyone knows how to edit and save the changes to a SWF file loaded inside an AIR application?
    Thanks in advance!

    I'm sorry, but I happen to digress greatly with Michael's approach. I started using AIR  just yesterday ( 3 hours or so ), and I firmly believe in reinventing the wheel as a strong method of learning. Just to be clear, I do this on my own free time, so I have no need to worry about COGs, after all, I'm just learning. Otherwise, though it's a strong and great response if I were to build a somewhat bigger application, it's way too much more than the original scope of the application. It's like using a bazooka to kill ants . Regarding the scope of the application, it should support loading / writing of SWFs, and editing of XMLs for certain pre-defined entities. As I stated already, I am certain that I'd be able to do this in a very short span of time with another approach (more xmls, embedding assets directly to the SWF that loads the edited swf, etc.) It's more of a challenge to myself than anything else . I'm really grateful for all your help, so if you want, I can keep you up to date on how I deal with the issue.
