Regarding testing

hi there,
we perform the normal unit testing in realisation phase and UAT’s in phase 4. Do we specify the test cases in TESTING (I1 & I2) part of the BPML?

The simple answer is it does what your users want, the data is correct at all levels, and the operations are fast enough that it does not impede usability. Regarding the all levels comment -- there may be reasons not to full consolidate the cube (calc all) -- in some say planning applications that require a lot of deep sparse dimensions this could produce a multiple-hundred GB cube which would not be usable and likely tax the poor hardware -- in this instance you may skip aggregations of certain areas of the cube.
The more complex answer is, you have sheets which replicate formulas in the system for unit tests and those work as expected. Selected users verify the data in test/QA regions. The speed of calculations and/or things will prove your design either wrong or right.
Let's now assume your cube is just reporting built off of a relation source -- get some reasonable testers and have them tie out the data at all levels.
I would almost say being an Essbase developer is like a trade skill -- you should apprentice with someone who has decent skills for a year or so and then another year and you are probably not too bad at it and may not be good at it either. Another year or two and you are probably reaching your skill level plateau presuming you have been doing your homework (reading documentation, asking questions, having built several applications that perform well)...
Good luck,
-John

  • Doubt regarding testing Soap scenario (HTTPS)

    Hello Experts,
I have a scenario where a Bapi functionality(server proxy) is exposed as a webservice .
So scenario will be SOAP -> XI -> Proxy (calls a BAPI).
I need to use https for this scenario. I have read most of the blogs and threads regarding this and will proceed accordingly.
    I have a simple doubt :
After configuring a scenario to *only* accept a Soap message with appropriate valid certificate -
If I have to test my scenario using XML spy, how can I  attach a certificate to Soap request in XML spy?
Or is their any feature available in XMl spy or in Xi itself to do these kind of test?
or please suggest me a work around to test the scenario configuration with certificates.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Regards,
    Xi Queries.

    Hi Swarup,
I would like to know :
What happens when a check for certificate validation fails in XI? It may be due to invalid certificate, expired certificate or a request from unauthorised user-
    - Will it be raised as a exception and we need to do some configuration to inform it back to Sender?
    - Will the message fail in Moni with red flag ?
    - Alerts will be created ?
Please share your experiences and expert sugestions.
    Thanks in Advance!!

    Hi,
U can check ur Message in SXI_MONITOR and to check the complete message and sender and receiver adapter details check them in RWB
    In runtime work bench
    1) select component monitoring and click on display.u can find adapter engine click on it.u can find communication channel click on it and give ur sender or receiver communication channelk details.there u can check the errors, mnessage flow and payload .
    2) Message monitoring were u can check the message
    3) end-to-end monitoring were u can check complete end to end message flow.

  • Regarding TEST System Build

    Dear All,
We are planning to build a test system by copying one of our production database.
We are planning to use the homogeneous system copy method by offline backup .
Our Production system is SAP release 4.6c and database is
Oracle 10g and the OS is HP-UX .
Please suggest some important things which shd be considered during this ....
    Thanks,
    Jagadish ..

    Hi Jagadish,
You should check the new SAPINST for Oracle 10g.
Because you old SAPINT will not allow you to use Oracle 10g as your database.
Other wise you should install using default oracle version and do upgrade to Oracle 10g than you can restore you offline production database.

  • Regarding Test Director(Mercury Test)

    Hi,
Can any one tell me how to work in Test director(Mercury Testing), BPT, Load Runner, Change Impact Testing and QTP. I want all steps with screen shots.
    point will  Rewarded.
    Waiting for Quick Response.
    Best Regards,
    Bansidhar

I guess two previous replies answer your query. In case you do not want to read all those documents, Mercury provides several tools - Winrunner and QTP for automated functional testing (QA) and LoadRunner for load testing (Performance related). For all of those three tools, you need to create some scripts for different use cases. Test Director is a tool which allows us to maintain those scripts (a repository) which can be reused for multiple test cases. Test Director keeps test plans (a list of test cases you need to test), etc. In other word, TestDirector is an integrated QA enviroment where you can keep all the pieces together to run QA activities "systematically".

  • Regarding testing of session out timings

    Hi
i did changes in BO Server level(D-Business objects > web-inf>......web.xml  by increasing 20 minutes to 40 minutes >
and make changes in CMC  as idle document time as 800 seconds from 300 seconds.
Now i want to test can anyone help me how to do test ?
as per my knowledge i have to go to the documents select the report keep it like that
and wait for session out time
    is this ok   ?
do i need to do something else
    pls sugest
    Thanks

If you are testing Enterprise session timeout just log into the system and keep it idle.
If you are testing Webi session timeout just log in and open a Webi report for viewing and keep it idle.
Note: The Webi session timeout settings in CMC must be equal to or less than Enterprise session set in web.xml.

  • Testing in Forte: Good News :-)

    Hi
The purpose of this message is to address some inaccuracies in the attached
message regarding testing tools. I thought I would share with you all what
I found out about testing tools that work with Forte.
I heard back from Forte users about two testing tools:
    1) Mercury LoadRunner / WinRunner etc.
    2) ClassIQ's product called IQTest
    Mercury
I spoke with a Mercury representative today who listed for me several sites
which are successfully using Forte with Mercury (one of these sites is even
located here in Australia!). The problems described in the attached
message or accurate; however, the workarounds are documented and easy to
    understand.
You can use Mercury today with Forte.
In addition, Mercury has been working for several months now on an even
tighter integration with Forte. This project has been extremely
successful. There is at least one Forte site in the USA which is using
this Forte/Mercury integrated product. According to the Mercury rep, the
Mercury/Forte tighter integration is now in beta testing and should be
production in May/June 1997. This information was verified by my contacts
at Forte HQ. If any of you need more detailed information than this please
contact me or your Mercury representative.
    ClassIQ
ClassIQ currently has a small number of sites using its testing tools which
are written in Forte. Needless to say, ClassIQ is very tightly integrated
with the Forte environment. If you would like to know more about ClassIQ
contact Joe Burns at 105210,[email protected].
I am sure there are many other people using other testing tools with
Forte....these are just the two I have heard about in the initial responses
to my query. I would love to hear about other testing tools which work
    well with Forte.

    Eric

    Hi,
We evaluated quite a few test tools in relation to the forte
environment. All of them have the same problem : The inability to
correctly map Forte widgets. Most of them cannot recognise
Outlinefields, ArrayFields etc. Even if they do recognise a forte widget
only basic properties like the size of the widget, its position on the
screen etc. are recorded. Data contents of the widget are not
    recognized.
To clarify the above points : Given a screen with a TextData widget, you
can record and playback this sequence without any problems with most
Test tools :- Position the mouse on the widget, Type 'Testing' .
Ideally, the TextData widget should have a property 'Content' or 'Value'
(different test tools call it differently) which will have the value
'Testing'. In case of forte this does not happen. What is recorded are
the low level mouse movements or keyboard strokes. The position on the
screen where the value is typed is recorded and played back.
Low level recording maybe acceptable in some circumstances but say - you
have a widget which gets populated by a database query. How will you
    test the values displayed ?
Some of the test tools are customizable i.e. you can actually create a
widget class of your own and try to map it to a recognized (by the Tool)
widget class. This will be a time consuming process with a great deal of
trial and error and no guarantees of success.
If the sole objective is navigate through screens and record and
playback, then most of the automated test tools work. If you want to
make full use of a test tools capabilities and want to go further and
intelligently record and playback, most test tools have very very
    limited use.
Discussions with Test tool vendors have revealed the following :
    - Forte has not released a Test API to any particular vendor or the
    market at large
    - Forte implementation sites are at the moment too few for any test tool
vendor to invest in Research and Development and come out with a Test
    API.
So as it goes the chances of a fully compatible Forte test tool in the
    near future are remote.
Forte's own AutoTester project has a limited usage. My own evaluation is
that it cannot be used for big sized implementations. Along with other
limitations, test management facilities that are particularly relevant
for big sized implementations simply don't exist with AutoTester.
The only product in the market that is Forte specific and is more a
testing Framework than a tool is TestIQ from ClassIQ. I am keen to get
information about TestIQ from any of its implementation sites. Again I
am not sure about its test management capabilities.
    Hope the information helps,

    Hi all,
We are about to embark on a sizable Forte development and are interested
in hearing from anybody who has successfully used automated test tools
with Forte. Also, does anybody know of a problem tracking tool that can
be linked to the Forte source repository for the purpose of tracking the

    Subject: Automated test tools
I've read about Capture/Replay and played with the AutoTester project a
little. I'm curious as to the experiences that developers have had with
using these tools to automate testing of GUI applications. Has anyone
actually deployed an application that successfully uses these tools? How
does it compare against other automated test tools?
One limitation that I see with using Capture/Replay is that any non-Forte
client interfacing with my Forte code would not be able to use this
mechanism to perform its auto testing. Also, while playing with the
AutoTester I actually got a playback which was slightly different than what
I did while doing the capture.

  • Encounter problem when running test.fmx in Oracle form 11g

I am new to Oracle form 11g and encounter a problem regarding testing the Form Services.
I have Oracle form 11g (deployment mode) on my app server.  I opened 'Run a form on the web' and clicked 'Run form' to conduct a test with default values suggested by the screen.  Then I got the below screen showing 'An add-on for the website failed to run'.
Is the problem in relation to IE setting? or is my set up of Oracle form 11g not OK?

Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?
How much the upgrade process depends of database size, in this case?
    I have fast boxes  IBM AIX 5.3 , 64 b.

    Appreciate your comments ...
Yes, sound stupid, regarding test environment, but in reality, is not that much:
-I do have "preprod" environment, (2 instances RAC) same releases of OS, OCW,RAC ... but DB size is 40 GB!!!  It has all the objects as production, but (again but) it does not have physical standby, as production has. This is not that unusual, knowing that production DB grows very fast, and very large, and business do not want to keep preprod, dev, test databases same HUGE size as production is. Savings ...
-My DB upgrade depends if application  running on top of it is certified for higher RDBMS release ... looks like they have some problems.
-Very encouraging sounds comment that DB upgrade does not depend that much of the DB size ...
    - i do not recall from where this info came, but I have heard that R 11.* treats PDF files in different way that R10 did it ... and because of that, process of upgrading big databases which have many items of that type (pdf) can take very long. Any idea about this?
-Brian, thx ... I'm trying hard to provide DB simmilar size in UPG environment and face all possible pitfalls before I go in production...thx for youe advice. I'm relly interested in how upgrade to 11.* from 10.* traets my pdf-s ... All my TBs comming from pdfs. Everi advice will be wellcome ...

  • How to Add Non SAP steps in test package

    Hi Experts,
As our Client requirement is to load end to end test scripts/packages in solution manager. which includes non sap systems where it does not have URL and that legecy system contains 4 to 5 legecy steps(i.e as a place holder as text) along with 5 to 6 sap steps.
in solution manager test package should show all sap and legecy steps(i.e as a place holder as text) which is total 10 to 11 steps.
Can any one guide me on this please.
    Regards,
    Naveen Gunda

    Hello Naveen,
the approach for non-SAP steps is more or less the same like for SAP steps using SOLAR02.
The only difference in your case (without URL) is that you can't assign a test object to the related test document and so navigation to the system under test will not work.
General Infoamtion regarding Test Management in Solution Manager can be found in our Wiki page in section Test Option 1.
